With this, the visual novel epic of Fate/Stay Night is finally completed. Which was your favorite route? This is just in time for the 2nd movie covering the middle of the route that comes out March 14th here in the US, so please share! That's another battlefield down, and I just now noticed that all of the VNs I have done so far (Danganronpa, Zero Escape, FSN) are all about a group of people put in a situation where they have to kill each other until it's a few survivors left. UBW is my favorite story due to the thematic duopoloy between Shirou and Archer. Arturia is best girl, best heroine and best love interest, but HF undeniably has the most badass moments and best atmosphere

Man the anime adaptation of The Very Hungry Caterpillar was hella weird.
I was sad after watching Spring Song because I though Shirou have to live in a puppet body, but this video make my mind at peace.
I notice in the final movie they never showed rider finding Shirou's soul. They never showed her going back to collect it. The ending was confusing as hell.
What is up with Hercules and always getting the sharp end of the stick in all these routes.
Based on his story like cu. Hercules becomes mad by Hera and eventually dies by poison by the person he loves. In fate each time he dies he regains his sanity and dies to protect the illy

It is around 37:09 where I stopped watching the first time I watched this video about a year ago, because I didn’t want to get spoiled on Spring Song. I just got done watching Spring Song today and decided to finally finish watching this video.
:D You did it, it's finally done, well for now until you decide to do the other 100 fate series. Super hype for FFTA. Also ima let you finish but Today's menu for the Emiya family was the best fate series.
I really like that and Carnival Phantasm ... the light-hearted ones are somehow more fun when you're familiar with the darker main series.

Excellent videos! I read the entire visual novel myself, but I enjoyed watching these recaps to brush up on a few plot details I forgot about.

I am new to. The series and only watched the anime. After watching butterfly I got curious and wanted to spoil myself a bit. I have noticed fate can be really dark but I like this ending.
Why does assassin seem to be working with Sakura's unconscious shadow? And why does Saber while she's possessed act like Assassin is her master. What the hell does assassin have to do with it? It seems like he's the main villain, not Zouken. At least that's how the movies portray it. It seems like literally every single event that happens in the first two movies goes exactly according to assassin.
no Assassin works for Zouken who is "using" the Shadow (grail/Sakura) until the proper time, i dont know what you were watching but Assassin literally says multiple times "My lord" to Zouken, Zouken is the primary villain until the end

I liked heavens feel.it feels like more of a canon ending. I still love ubw route but heavens feel actually cares about its characters more & actually handle kirei kotomine as the final boss well. I kinda rant my favorite routes.

Illya really is the best big sister.
This imo was great but not as wonderful as ubw I disliked how they let Shirou just give up everything he stood for just for Sakura in an instant whereas in UBW And Fate he was a hero for the many not the few
This route was very depressing from start to finish like from best boy Shinji to Lancer dying really early even saber kicked the bucket it felt like the characters were just kill bait full way through and this storyline didn’t even feel like a holy grail war more like a one sided affair which isn’t a bad thing but I personally don’t vibe with this
The whole point and theme of HF is acceptance and refusal of ideals.
On a side note the killing of servants was done so we could see the true power of the grail (shadow).

Thanks for your hard work. Outlining this could not have been easy and took time.
Personally I originally thought UBW would be my favorite route, but after hearing you summarize the Heaven's Feel route.
I think HF will be my favorite in the end. This route feels and has more depth to the characters. It creates more dire stakes that causes our characters to fundamentally challenge their values and identity inorder to achieve some kind of peace.
On top of that, this route feels like a proper ending to the fate series. The previous routes always felt like things were slightly left undone or not fully developed. HF's development is everything the other routes lacked and had.
Fate = saber route
Ubw = archer route
Hf = sakura / illya / shinji route

Just started Heaven Feels 1, first half I thought was a recap of ubw, but at the end I don't get it tf is happening & why is it different from ubw, is it another timeline or what, help me

Not my favorite route, but it is very unique as a deconstruction of the rest of the VN
It's personally mine but I recognize it has glaring flaws.
@@darkknight4726 all routes have their pros and cons IMO, which stop them from being "best route" in my mind.there is no objectively best route, but all 3 routes together in sequence as a story elevates Fate Stay Night beyond its individual points.
IMO, Fate route has best heroine and love interest, UBW has best thematic struggle , and HF has the best atmosphere and badass moments.
@@MrInuhanyou123 I will admit the the heaven's feel movies are doing a good job fixing my biggest issue with the route. Also I would like to say that I don't think ubw flaws are glaring enough to really hurt it nearly as much as the other two.

i feel like this is the only proper ending to the fate zero story, also, this is the most tragic route imo and i feel like it has the best ending while most servants died like ants, the survivors and the last deaths had so much put into their tales. this route is plain awesome
It seems like the best ending in my opinion, servants are used to grim deaths and these deaths are now final due to the grail ending. All the main cast is still alive and shirou no longer has to become archer and hold by a very fucking stupid ideal
@@MrLeothekingofkings You missed the entire point of the route if you think Shirou has completely abandoned that ideal. He simply won't place the lives of others over what matters to him, unlike Kiritsugu. Nothing in the route points to him no longer wanting to be a hero.
@@mattwayne9128 no I haven't because this their is a drastic difference in ideals even though they're similar. He may still want to be a hero, but he's no longer a stupid ideologue that will double down on a bad way of living just because it's his principle. He doesn't have to become an archer in this route which IMO is the worst life for him.
@@MrLeothekingofkings sorry for the late response, Shirou did die defending everyone, using archer's powers, ilya saved him with her OP powers from the 3rd sorcerry, so no, shirou didn't lose his moronic ideals IN MY OPINION. but, in this route, he does decide to defend sakura over everything else which is in a way against his policy and goes along with his policy, against: she is the big bad overall, and he is not fighting against it directly which causes more deaths.
along: he wants to cleanse sakura and save her, even if it is going to cost lives, this is just like kiritsugu, so he is still a hero of justice in his own twisted head.
i can't state enough how interesting it is to see rider alive after the war, unlike gilgamesh.
shirou is a puppet, he still holds his own soul but fake body, which is so much like a servant, and thanks to some mana sex, he has the power to be a servant as much as any other heroic spirit, this route ends with 2 servants alive true rider and fake archer. this is fucking awesome.
shirou killing dark saber is also really true to the ideals of shirou, i can't find how shirou is not the very same shirou he has been in all 3 routes overall.

All routes are canon and are three possiblibilies of how it could all end. Plus, Fate has a multiverse theory thing going on.
the short version is that all three are canon. the longer version is that it actually doesn't matter because they all converge afterward into fate/hollow ataraxia. the even longer version is that from other timelines (*cough*FGO*cough*), fate/stay night is an unobservable phenomenon which means that what happened there was beyond human recognition.
Basically, the events all happened and were overlayed on top of each other for some reason. We won't know what's *technically* canon until we find out what happens after the ensuing quantum timelock (basically an alternate timelines cut off point where only the prime timelines continue on). Chances are, Heavens Feel IS the canon route though, since Fate/Zero is more or less explicitly a prequel to Heaven's Feel, even if it more or less still happens in the other timelines in the Stay Night and the FGO timeline too.

Correct, each route is canon so neither of the 3 are the official "true" route. The argument can be had about Heaven's Feel being the true ending given the prequel following from Rin's PoV as well as the true ending for Heaven's Feel ends from her perspective as well.
