One thing I think a lot of people don't understand about the situation with Shirou's seemingly misogynistic comments is that, to him, she looks like a 15 year old girl. No matter how strong a 15 year old girl might be, no sane and moral person would want to see them fighting to death against anyone else for any reason. Most people wouldn't want to see 15 year old boys doing that (child soldiers are bad), even. Us saying things like "she's strong, she can handle herself" is not taking into account how the characters view the situation. She is strong, Shirou knows she's strong. She still gets nearly killed by lancer and torn apart by Berserker.
I agree, I think not even regarding her physical age/looks, there is also an element of being human where you don't want to see that happen to a person you like. Let's even say this was in UBW or HF, I would still sympathies with Shirou jumping in front of Berserker. Shirou is just a person who would do that to save someone, and I think that while the original material doesn't convey that very human emotion as good as it could and leaves too much up to the viewer to decide what his reasoning is for (because that's still important, it's not good writing to leave it up to the viewer), we can still appreciate what was trying to be said. I think the way the scene should have been handled was how they handled it in Ufotable's UBW. It is pretty interesting to break that little aspect about Shirou's character down though, once you go beyond just Fate Route.
Yeah, i agree. We are the viewer, so we or many of us know about lore and have a different perspective on somet things, but "Fate" Shirou at first dosnt and its takes time for him to understand and accept too (since Shirou denies many things in his head quite long time and uses out right strange excuses, esp his Fate version, sicne he still develops his mindset), plus Artoria is really stack at 15-16 years physically. Also just to be fair, Nasu could write it better, so its one of many reasons why VN needs Remake.
Yeah...adding to that Shirou's own obsession that can't stand anyone else coming in harm's way for his sake, and there you have it. And the VN isn't even trying to justify it. They are just giving reasons for his behavior.

I really enjoyed making this video. I've always been a fan of the Fate Route despite its flaws and I hope one day Aniplex and Sony will give it another chance. Which I think they will, I don't see why not.
I want a Fate Route remake too! I'm not sure why they wouldn't do this. Isn't Saber the most popular character from Fate? Why would they not think people would want this. I know everyone said that DeenStayNight anime is not worth watching, but I'm going to anyway as I'm to much of a Saber not to. She's my favorite character from Fate and one of my wifus.

Even if it won't do much, it looks good if we get a large number on it, and maybe we get an update if it's possible at all or not. TH-cam sadly deletes my comment with the link. Actually, as how it has been proved just recently, the most famous servant right now is Gilgamesh. And as much as you don't like it TM still treats he Deen adaption as the proper Fate route anime even after all these years, they clearly don't have any need to do one now.
Because Everyone Appreciated what Studio Deen doing with Fate Stay Night, that's why no one will dare to make a Remake except if Studio Deen itself want to do it
Without going into spoilers: a lot of your wish list regarding the final battle with Kotomine has already happened (or, from your vantage point, will happen) in Heaven's Feel. Kirei is an incredible character, both as an ally and an enemy, and the latter half of HF really dial up how badass he can be. Even if he is a complete sociopath, his motivations are somewhat commendable And his final fight? You'll appreciate it when the time comes.
One thing I'll say about the visual novel is I LOVE how animated the fight scenes were. Without using actual animation per say, it would instead show still images zoomed in at parts, screen shakes etc to give the idea of an animated scene. I have never seen any other visual novel do this so well, even modern ones fall short to this!
That was a very cool review video about the Fate route in detph, despite being the most straightforward and "basic" story of the VN, is still very memorable and not something that should be forgotten. Shirou and Saber's relationship is my definitively favourite with Sakura second and Rin third, they work so well together is only natural to be fit for each other and I think the romance in UBW was lacking when compared to HF and Fate (you could argue UBW is Archer route more than Rin route). I hope one day it gets a remake from the anime because Saber's full story is only there and you only get a little resume of it in UBW since she goes to the sidelines there and Zero with Fate works so much together for the reasons you mentioned (Rin and Kirei, Saber's past and objectives, Kiritsugu and Shirou and Illya, etc), and you forgot to mention that the OST of the anime is one of the bost soundtracks even, much better than UBW and Zero IMO
There's no reason to nerf Shirou by removing his magical circuits, it would be really cool to see Shirou in this version to be more like a knight rather than a magus. plus due to more of Saber's influence maybe he would use a single sword in fights. Overall it would be awesome to see Shirou being on par or more powerful in terms of power and skill to other routes.
But you have to play the Fate route first. Unlimited Bladeworks and Heaven's Feel are locked until Fate is finished. In turn like Heaven's Feel, that route is locked until Unlimited Bladeworks is finished.
The fate series was what got me into VN. I never would had considered trying it if it wasn’t for the fate route anime. I will always have a soft spot for the fate route just because it was what got me into the series as a whole. It’s not my favorite but still a great route.
Great video overall. I just feel like you have a problem with sexual content to the point of not validating writing that revolves around it. For instance, when Shirou sees Saber naked when she is taking a bath, he is embarassed and the trope is subverted because Saber shows herself to Shirou to make him stop looking at her as a girl and see her as a warrior, it showcases how fundamentally different their perception of each other is and shows how Saber has deep issues in regards to her own identity. Just because it is fanservice doesn't mean its an excuse. Even regarding the infamous "mana supply" scene, I don't think that is jarring considering that sexual rituals are common practice in occulticism and I think that is more valid as an inspiration for the scene than simply fanservice, because there are various sex scenes that occur more naturally and in different scenarios.
Every route is a foundation for the next, and it saddens me that the first has yet to receive a proper adaption, some even skipping any form of it entirely. People need to know that Shirou and Saber have the best romance smh

Just got into fate. Started with Zero, then watched UBW and then finished Heaven's Gate. Started watching the original anime cause I was interested in what I may have missed from the Saber route. But didn't like it as much as the UFO animes and I had a bunch of questions. However, this video literally answered all my questions and was quite interesting overall. Thank you so much. I wonder what fate thing to watch next.

I mean if you ever truly run out of ideas you could always force yourself through the middle 2 seasons of Kalied and loose all faith in humanity. Like I said though better to exhaust all available options first.
Why are all youtube reviews done for the mirror moon fan patch of the 2004 eroge instead of the much more widely sold 2007 Realta Nua ps2 game? The overwhelming majority of the japanese audience read that one, and it has been the canonical vers for 17 years now. Also, 2004 lacked voice acting etc.
What would be smart is to dedicate each episode to giving a personal backstory and character development to each individual character while still focusing on mainly the ones that the route is dealing with in a remake. Instead of you know filler eps =x

God I love Kotomine Kirei, what a chad. I can't hate him. he man did literally everything he possibly could to be a good man and be satisfied with that goodness. Yet his nature, his very soul was evil incarnite. It's the only thing that gave him any satisfaction, any joy. It's the one fictional excuse for evil that turns all of his bastardry into something memorably fun to experience hahaha

12:40 is even worse when you realize Illya was going to rape Shirou Edit: One thing about Fate Route and Heaven Feel Route that's inconsistent is that either Shirou shouldn't have beat Berserker in Heaven's Feel or Archer should have been able to beat Berserker in Fate because Nine Lives Blade Works takes well 9 lives and Archer takes 6 on his own presumably without it. And Caliburn should only take 1 life as its a A rank NP
The thing with berserker is that in HF berserker lost God Hand because of the shadow so shirou killing berserker make sense And Archer could not kill him because he had god hand, so he could only kill him 6 times. (Also Rin kill him one time so shirou and Saber take out the rest with calibur a sword that while is weaker then Excalibur when is ussed by Artoria (and only by her) is as powerful almost as Excalibur so it makes sense that shirou with the help of artoria could kill berserker. The only thing that i can say that i doesn't make a lot of sense is that in HF is steated that Berserker is blind after being corrupted but he stops and sees illya... See the problem. That and that is never explaind in the Novel why Sakura becomes into the shadow/Dark Sakura in HF something that is only explained in Fate materials, but i'm not sure if it was in materials 2 or 3 but they explain it there

haha, oh my, doing this for UBW may kill me since there is so much to say about the anime versions of UBW and Heaven's Feel. I may, no promises but this video took 3 months to make, almost always working on this video in some form or fashion. So I'm not sure if I can do a UBW one right now, but we'll see what the future holds.

That puts my mind at ease a little, very self conscious person in most things I do. I was dreading this going up, but when everyone liked it I was like, "oh... well... usually people nit pick my stuff" or something. Ohhhhhh the fate route manga is an interesting case. It actually goes a step further into ubw for no reason, only for Rin to grab archer by the collar and blueball everyone. Then in the last 10-20 chapters' the artist gives up and makes shirou look like a bodybuilder, which is just the funniest shit ever. All in all, it's pretty bad. Also don't read the fate zero manga.
They already did in 2007 for the ps2, which is the version the overwhelming majority of the Japanese audience read, it is also the version coming to English this year. The 2004 eroge has never been given voice acting nor is it getting sold anymore

Funny thing about the mana transfer thing is that it happened in "tsukihime" too, it's a thing that happens surprisingly often in the nasuverse

Edit: One thing about Fate Route and Heaven Feel Route that's inconsistent is that either Shirou shouldn't have beat Berserker in Heaven's Feel or Archer should have been able to beat Berserker in Fate because Nine Lives Blade Works takes well 9 lives and Archer takes 6 on his own presumably without it. And Caliburn should only take 1 life as its a A rank NP
The thing with berserker is that in HF berserker lost God Hand because of the shadow so shirou killing berserker make sense
And Archer could not kill him because he had god hand, so he could only kill him 6 times. (Also Rin kill him one time so shirou and Saber take out the rest with calibur a sword that while is weaker then Excalibur when is ussed by Artoria (and only by her) is as powerful almost as Excalibur so it makes sense that shirou with the help of artoria could kill berserker.
The only thing that i can say that i doesn't make a lot of sense is that in HF is steated that Berserker is blind after being corrupted but he stops and sees illya... See the problem.
That and that is never explaind in the Novel why Sakura becomes into the shadow/Dark Sakura in HF something that is only explained in Fate materials, but i'm not sure if it was in materials 2 or 3 but they explain it there

haha, oh my, doing this for UBW may kill me since there is so much to say about the anime versions of UBW and Heaven's Feel. I may, no promises but this video took 3 months to make, almost always working on this video in some form or fashion. So I'm not sure if I can do a UBW one right now, but we'll see what the future holds.

I was dreading this going up, but when everyone liked it I was like, "oh... well... usually people nit pick my stuff" or something. But this time everyone so far has liked it or have been rather fair in their criticisms.

bruh there's no reason to nerf Shirou by removing his magical circuits, it would be really cool to see Shirou in this version to be more like a knight rather than a magus. plus due to more of Saber's influence maybe he would use a single sword in fights. Overall it would be awesome to see Shirou being on par or more powerful in terms of power and skill to other routes.

Ohhhhhh the fate route manga is an interesting case. It actually goes a step further into ubw for no reason, only for Rin to grab archer by the collar and blueball everyone. Then in the last 10-20 chapters' the artist gives up and makes shirou look like a bodybuilder, which is just the funniest shit ever. All in all, it's pretty bad. Also don't read the fate zero manga.

They already did in 2007 for the ps2, which is the version the overwhelming majority of the Japanese audience read, it is also the version coming to English this year. The 2004 eroge has never been given voice acting nor is it getting sold anymore
