You are raving about the battery, but right from the start, when not in use, the battery of my M1 MacBook Pro is 50% drained. After two weeks, it is completely dead. Wonder if you experience the same. Most people will use their M1 daily, so it will never be tested. I wouldn't be surprised if they all are like that or maybe only the first batch. The M2's GPU is 35 percent faster than that of the M1, according to Apple. But the M1 Pro, with up to 16 GPU cores and way more memory bandwidth, is about twice as fast as the M1. So expect the M1 Pro to still come in around 40 percent faster than the M2.
I agree with you, either the MacBook Air, which it’s a great deal with the good display and camera, or a refurbished MacBook Pro M1. Storage may be relative. We’re all using external storages anyway. Ram on the other hand should be more important if you do video editing etc. Thanks Sagi, awesome video as always 🙏
I have a 2019 MacBook Air and I'm planning to buy a 2021 MacBook Pro. Why the Pro? I like connecting multiple screens to my MacBook therefore the HDMI port is really useful. But thanks to all of these videos, I know now that I should not buy the 2022 MacBook Pro, I will already see a significant difference between my 2019 Air with the Intel chip and the 2021 Pro with the M1 chip.
Everyone knows that this is what Apple does. They release product with minimal features so you have to buy the "upgraded" one later, if you want the new features, which, chances are, you'll probably want. When the first iPad came out it had no camera, which was ridiculous because it came out during a time when cameras were available on even crappy devices! Apple's no camera move was deliberate because if you wanted a camera, and again, chances are you wanted the camera, then you had to plunk down more money for the upgraded model! This is their operating model...That, and also making these items eventually obsolete. The planned obsolesence is so egregious at this point that its disgusting! This is why I have been moving away from Apple for a while now. I'm tired of being held hostage and forced to buy upgraded models when I have hardware that's in great shape. I take care of my stuff but I still need to replace it and that doesn't seem right. My iPhone 6 Plus, which I still have and use daily, looks absolutely brand new, and it is only crappy because Apple has limited its ability to download apps and has slowed it down significantly. I can no longer pay bills through my phone because my operating system cannot upgrade to the required apps, and it is also running so slow that I will eventually need to replace it. However, I'm not replacing it with another iPhone, this time Samsung gets my money at the next upgrade!
i have no idea if you have already bought one, however usually people get the m1 air for coding. m2 would be a good choice as well, although more pricey.
I'm not buying another Macbook Pro until they fix the issue with the battery swelling in tropical climates. It happened to me, and it happened to several others who I know. That's too many for me. I won't spend all that money until I'm sure I will be able to close the machine in a year and that a swollen battery does not prevent me from doing so. This has not been an issue with any other Apple product, so why is it with the Macbook Pro? I have had many other computers and never had this problem until I bought my Macbook Pro.
I'm glad I got my M1 MBP 13 on sale (base model I just need a computer for general needs and some WoW) for $1099 in March. Hopefully will upgrade when M3 or M4 is out but I'm in no rush to upgrade now. Glad I didn't wait for M2, even though the new Air specs are cool but I like the fans for when I do want to play the one game I will play on a computer.
I like the Touch Bar on my M1PRO 13...I like the whole damn thing but the 8GB Ram and 512 SSD are underwhelming. This forced my hand and I have blown out my wallet and ordered the MI ProMax 16inch with 64GB Ram and 4TB SSD. The 13 M1 Pro is my portable unit and the 16 inch M1 ProMax will stay at home...with my German Shepherd.
@@sunitjoshi3573 Yes I think that is a good buy. If its in your budget the 14 MacBook 32 GB Ram and 1 or 2 TB is more future proof with better resale value. It has more ports and yet still portable. If it is not in your budget you will be fine with the M1. You should consider the M2 Air as well. They are good machines. Good Luck!
Awesome video! What did you mean when you mentioned upgrading a refurbished Macbook Pro at the end. Are refurbished Macs able to be taken apart and new RAM/SSD added?
What do you think about macbook pro m2 14? After watching your videos, I decided to buy the m1 pro, but now I'm thinking of buying the m2 pro 14 inch.I am confused about ssd. my budget is enough for the base model, but people say that 512 ssd is not enough. (at least 1tb)
frankly, M1 was overkill for most, so M2 is nothing exciting. New design is what People will care. With education discount and airpods discount(in back to school offer, if u are not taking it), this price will come below 999bucks. I am shifting from intel i5 10th gen to this laptop.
hey Bro, can I use the back to school dicount for my MBP While buying it-to essentially reduces it price? As far I have seen on Apple website that the discount will be added to my account after the MacBook has been delivered. is there anyway to add it while paying for the MacBook to get it in a cheaper price?
I very much like the Touch Bar. The fixed function keys are singularly useless. Fixed function keys may be "pro" whatever that is, but they are not at all professional. Really. two dedicatee keys to control keyboard illumination? Two dedicated keys to control screen brightness? &c. Who really needs or even wants that? As for RAM. macOS is noticeably happier with 16GB of RAM than it is with 8GB of RAM.
Is there an idea of when the Macbook Pro 14 inch M2 might come out? I am in the market of a new Macbook and am looking at the 14 inch models. I know the Macbook 14 M1 Pro came out October 2021, does that mean the M2 version might come around that time this year? Also great video for helping me narrow down my options!
What do you do with all these apple products? I’m a student and I really need a capable laptop for school, the laptop I have now is 8 years old and extremely slow
After personal configuration there is a ~300 dollar difference between the M2 Air and the Pro 14. Should I just drop the extra 300ish and get the pro? I'm prolly not gonna use the M1 Pro chip to its potential but I'm already reaching a higher price with the M2 Air config
Apple has lost any semblance of a roadmap it seems. Why all these models? And the M2 base model Macbook Pro's SSD is slower than the base model M1 Macbook Pros... And the strange monitor thingy. Strange decisions they are making...
I currently have a 2014 13 inch MacBook with 8gb and it’s basically unusable now. The disc is full and it runs slowly, I was looking to upgrade and wanted to get the 14 inch MacBook with 1Tb ssd and 16 Gn ram. Im currently studying to be an engineer and Ik we’ll use stuff like solid works/AutoCad 3D/ Matlab. Is 16gb of ram more than enough or should I opt for the 32 Gb?
Thank you for the question. Read Speed was about the (approx. 2800 MB/s) Write speed on my M2 was faster (approx 2250 MB/s vs approx. 2000 MB/s). Hope that helps.
I’m getting my first ever MacBook soon, which one should I choose: MacBook Air M1 base model (8gb ram, 256gb ssd) or the MacBook Air M1 (16gb ram, 512gb ssd)….I’m going to use it for school (Word, Wxcel, PowerPoint, Discord, Browsing, Netflix and TH-cam)
No mention that new m2 macbook pro 256GB have 50% slower ssd so in real performance in aplication that use ssd, have a lot worse performance than M1 chip. Second M2 chip can up heat to 104 c M1 only 87c when is heavily loaded. So M2 is not perfect and better than last year M1 have slightly more performance not huge deal.
I really like the the new M2. I want to buy a new custom MacBook Air m2 with 24 gb of ram or the Macbook Prop M2!!! I have a I have been using Autocad for mac on my MacBook Pro for some time, now a I want to start using Revit but I can only do it using a virtual machine "Parallels". My question is How much Ram do I need to ran Revit the smoothest way, on a new MacBook Air M2 or is it better to go Macbook pro 14" - 16"?
Best macbook comparison in the whole youtube. Thanks for the video. I think i would get Macbook Air M2 15” instead. I love the top notch and as a designer, i think i need a bigger display.
adding the two option will rise the price for 460 euros thats too much!! agree for the 16gb the resell value will be at least 100$ more, and will go much faster on ebay. but kind of disagree on 256g storage believe its can be enough, its a matter of perspective, got a surface go 128gb and didnt think about storage at all for the year that i had it, thanks for the good contents by the way
Good discussion - I worry about 3-4 years down the road for pro users. I don't want them to have to replace a device that still has enough power - just because they don't have enough storage. But of course it's a case by case situation. Thank you so much for contributing to the community!
Hello! I am planning to buy a laptop. I am confused between MBP 13 M1 or M2. Since I don't have a budget for M1 14 PRO, plus I feel my work doesn't require that much. (I am a ux designer) Iread all the comments, it seems like the M1 16Gb 512 SSD is preferable. But unfortunately it's out of stock in India. So now I am left with M2 pro 13 inch. Should I go for it?
Sir I just bought MacBook Pro 13 M2 chip base model (256gb, 8gb ram) And I was the first from India to buy this laptop so pls tell was my decision wrong ??
In real it down in the video. There’s nothing wrong with this laptop if it does exactly what you want. I would look at weather the active cooling system on the Pro is worth it over the new display, camera, sound system and form factor of the M2 Air.
Which is better getting the macbook air m2 2022 16gb ram or m1 standard 14 inch macbook pro 16ram i think difference is 600$ (1400 $ for macbook air / 14inch for 1950)
Tough choice. The issue with 256 is that if it’s not enough - you’re in trouble. That comes down to what you plan on doing - so if it’s enough - M2 (because of all the upgrades). If it’s not, M1. Hope that helps.
@@TechGearTalk I appreciate it! It would mainly be Adobe program work but the files would be stored on external SSD's. My only concern was the slow SSD that is currently in the M2 Pro.
I feel that most people buying the MB Pro 13 M2 will buy the base model, I saw >80% in one report somewhere. So for the vast majority it seems that price is the driver and therefore the MB Pro 14 really does not enter the room as an option. Prosumers will of course go straight to the 14/16 Pro. The MB Pro 13 M2 is an ultrabook at heart, forget the Pro, that is not to be taken literally, it is Apple’s moniker for top of the line (just marketing ergo the iPhone Pro). So the choice if buying Apple for the majority is the M2 Air or Pro 13? Both are priced the same if you have the 10-core GPU variant so it is down to how much you use intensive apps and whether you care about thermals and saving a little time. The upgrades on the Air are pretty superficial, smaller bezels, 1080p webcam, MagSafe (do not need a fast charger as battery is forever), slightly better speakers (I use external speakers) and new design. Hardly life-changing? So, I would def get the MB Pro 13 M2 as the fan looks like it will be useful, the TouchBar is great for me, the studio mics are great and the new ISP makes the 720p webcam (in good light) more than passable.
I agree and I love the touch bar {unpopular opinion} I love skipping ads with it and I have a 30 dollar dongle with everything I need (2 USBC ports 2 usba ports 1 HDMI port 1 SD card) so uh not a bad purchase for the people who wants it

I am a musician. I like to have m2 macbook air for live stage gig. I can only afford either one 16gb version or 512 verion. I am from india. Which option is best for me? I am using mainstage app or sometimes gig performer app. I saw the ssd speed is lower in base model. If this is the case with m2 air which option will be better?
Thanks for the review. Trying to choose between 512g ssd/16gb ram M1 mba vs m2 mba? Which would be a better choice? I do hear the thermal throttle issue w m2 and bad performance w base model. but not sure if the upgraded version of m2 mba will outperform m1 mba w the same specs? Trying to decide...!! I do like the design on m1 but its not a deal breaker. I also like the mg safe on m2 so design-wise, they seem to even out. Its the performance i'm not sure about. Omg me too lol. Bought it 2 days ago and I was so torn between it and the mba m1 but then got the MBP cause the deal was too good and it made more sense. I’m so happy, literally can’t wait to get it
@@Echoesofmichy MacBook Pro 13” has better battery life, brighter screen, better microphone quality and better sound quality over the MacBook Air. For $899, it was an easy choice to make.
$200 a year?
How do you like it so far? Is the battery holding up?
@@sunitjoshi3573 i recently sold the MacBook. But the battery was still holding up great after 3 months since I never exposed the MacBook to hot environments (used indoor environment only).
Finally! Tech Gear's review!
Hope you enjoy it!
I am having a hard time choosing in between MBP 13 M2 256GB and MBP 13 M1 512 GB. Which should I go? Help!
Which one did you buy and how is it working now?
I plan to use Adobe after effect and premier pro.. does Macbook Pro M2 still worth it?
Which one do you recommend for coding and programming, the MacBook Air M2 or Mac book pro M2? Thanks in advance
i have no idea if you have already bought one, however usually people get the m1 air for coding. m2 would be a good choice as well, although more pricey.
i got the m2 pro for 999.99 final , y’all think that’s a good deal or ?
What should I get as my first macbook ..
M1 or M2 ??
How’s it doing so far?
Great video as always :)
Thank you for watching and for the kind words!
Hooray, a tech reviewer that likes the Touch Bar, I love it on my M1 MBP 🙌🏻
Yes!!!
@@greasyflight6609Is 13 MBP M1 with 16/1TB a good buy?
Trust me. Apple is going to kill the entry level Mac book pro.
thanks for the info!
FIRST!!! Thank you for watching!
frankly, M1 was overkill for most, so M2 is nothing exciting.
Did you get a new camera? Your videos look so much better!!
Thank you! The main shot? Or the broll?
@@TechGearTalk sorry idk what the broll is... I just noticed that the video quality was higher, it was brighter and more crisp
@Shubham Tiwari Thank you!
What do you do with all these apple products? I’m a student and I really need a capable laptop for school, the laptop I have now is 8 years old and extremely slow
This feels like a "macbook SE" to me. Same old design, new chip
yes
After personal configuration there is a ~300 dollar difference between the M2 Air and the Pro 14. Should I just drop the extra 300ish and get the pro? I'm prolly not gonna use the M1 Pro chip to its potential but I'm already reaching a higher price with the M2 Air config
Hopefully you got to that part of the video. That's exactly why thought process.
@@TechGearTalk saving the video for tomorrow morning 😄. Love your content btw!
Get 14 inch pro. You’ll have a good run for years to come.
Just pre ordered my first laptop ever. And I ordered the M2 MacBook Air. Do you guys think that’s okay?
It’s going to be fantastic!
@@TechGearTalk but do you think the M1 is fine also as a starter?
@@Xirable oh of course
Waiting for you 😭🙏🏽 thank you 🤗 buy nice or buy twice baby 👑
That's right - LET'S GO!
Super useful advise. Bravo.
So glad it was helpful!
should I get a base model MacBook Air m2 8gb ram. 256gb ssd or a sealed 2019 MacBook 16inch 16gb memory?
Apple has lost any semblance of a roadmap it seems. Why all these models? And the M2 base model Macbook Pro's SSD is slower than the base model M1 Macbook Pros... And the strange monitor thingy. Strange decisions they are making...
Real MacBook Pro is the one with M1 Pro/Max. That's a base model and it's hardly a Pro consumer laptop.
Thanks!
Thank you so much! YOU'RE THE FIRST ONE EVER!
Can you guys help me, with mbp 8gb 512, which one should i choose. M1 or M2?
M2 Macbook Air vs. M1 Macbook Pro 13inches. Please. 😥
Wich battery is better 😳
If they are selling Macs soo costly, they should provide a better camera 😤
I currently have a 2014 13 inch MacBook with 8gb and it’s basically unusable now. The disc is full and it runs slowly, I was looking to upgrade and wanted to get the 14 inch MacBook with 1Tb ssd and 16 Gn ram. Im currently studying to be an engineer and Ik we’ll use stuff like solid works/AutoCad 3D/ Matlab. Is 16gb of ram more than enough or should I opt for the 32 Gb?
Could you test the SSD speed? I saw 2 other reviews and one suggested the SSD speed was half that of an M1 becuae Apple used only one SSD chip.
Thank you for the question. Read Speed was about the (approx. 2800 MB/s) Write speed on my M2 was faster (approx 2250 MB/s vs approx. 2000 MB/s). Hope that helps.
@@TechGearTalk Thanks! That is really interesting! I wonder if Apple is delivering some M2 MBPs with one SSD chip and others with 2.
Do you have the 256GB SSD on the M2 or higher? The higher SSDs may all have 2 chips.
Well its apparent you have the option between the two so why would you buy the lesser?
24GB at least
Seems clear that this laptop model is being phased out.
Best macbook comparison in the whole youtube. Thanks for the video. I think i would get Macbook Air M2 15” instead. I love the top notch and as a designer, i think i need a bigger display.
Oh wow - thank you for the kind words and support. Glad the video was helpful and thank you for being part of the community 🙏🏻
adding the two option will rise the price for 460 euros thats too much!! agree for the 16gb the resell value will be at least 100$ more, and will go much faster on ebay. but kind of disagree on 256g storage believe its can be enough, its a matter of perspective, got a surface go 128gb and didnt think about storage at all for the year that i had it, thanks for the good contents by the way
Good discussion - I worry about 3-4 years down the road for pro users.
(I am a ux designer)
Iread all the comments, it seems like the M1 16Gb 512 SSD is preferable. But unfortunately it's out of stock in India. So now I am left with M2 pro 13 inch. Should I go for it?
I do also have the same problem….
hello, I am a ux design student , can we talk
Sir I just bought MacBook Pro 13 M2 chip base model (256gb, 8gb ram)
And I was the first from India to buy this laptop so pls tell was my decision wrong ??
In real it down in the video. There’s nothing wrong with this laptop if it does exactly what you want. I would look at weather the active cooling system on the Pro is worth it over the new display, camera, sound system and form factor of the M2 Air.
What do you think is better macbook pro m1 16gb ram 512gb or macbook pro m2 8gb ram 512gb?
Personally, I would absolutely get the M1 with 16GB.
Why did they mess up so much w/ the m1 camera
Is mac pro 1-2M worth the price? 🤔
Which is better getting the macbook air m2 2022 16gb ram or m1 standard 14 inch macbook pro 16ram i think difference is 600$ (1400 $ for macbook air / 14inch for 1950)
I’d only get the pro if u like high refresh rates.
Ia is worth to buy Ipad Pro with Apple Pencil? My usage are office and watching OTT while travelling.
My concern is I can't stretch screen on Netflix or Amazon Prime. Those black bars are too thick.
I ran a video export test in fcpx comparing the 14 inch m1pro with the new m2 and m1pro is almost twice as fast!!
Thank you so much for testing and for sharing the results.
In your opinion should I get the m1 macbook air w 16gbs of ram and 512 ssd or m2 macbook air w 16gbs of ram and only 256 ssd?
Tough choice. The issue with 256 is that if it’s not enough - you’re in trouble. That comes down to what you plan on doing - so if it’s enough - M2 (because of all the upgrades). If it’s not, M1. Hope that helps.
@@TechGearTalk I appreciate it! It would mainly be Adobe program work but the files would be stored on external SSD's. My only concern was the slow SSD that is currently in the M2 Pro.
Let's suppose you have both (M1 and M2), wich one do u choose to sell it?
Can thunderbolt 4 on this device output 120hz 4k resolution to any device let’s say 4K TV which support 120hz or monitor?
What is the difference between MacBook Air and MacBook Pro ???
Higher brightness and fan!
I use laptop just for word and browsing. So is MacBook Pro M1 base good for me, especially there is a sale in Best buy and it reaches $999?
Yes, I’d even say the air would be fine unless you like the Touch Bar
Macbook air m2 without heat cooling is going to be such a problem long term
Depends on the use case
The M1 Is way better than the M2. M2 is slower and gets hot. whyy. complaint to apple report.
I agree and I love the touch bar {unpopular opinion} I love skipping ads with it and I have a 30 dollar dongle with everything I need (2 USBC ports 2 usba ports 1 HDMI port 1 SD card) so uh not a bad purchase for the people who wants it
oh! interesting comparison!
Thanks Thomas!
Ohhh nooo I wish the M2 model weighed more!
:D
Wait, which one has MagSafe?
Neither of the 13" MacBook Pro models have magsafe. the 14" does and so do the 2 M2 MacBook Airs. Hope that helps.
Thanks! I was thinking about getting to replace my old iMAC. I think I'll wait.
Glad the video was helpful.

Thanks. Probably never going to be able to afford apple products but feels good to watch 👍. Love ur content.
Thank you so much for the support and kind words!
I do lotsnof browsing and usually have 20-30 tabs open on firefox or chrome and have word and a few other apps open. (No video editing or coding).
I am just gonna get a 96GB RAM 16 inch m2 max
I believe they only go up to 64GB :) - it's a beast!
