The czech lady got it right, prices are crazy and good luck finding a flat. Food is alright though.

Im paying 600€ rent, split into 2, because 2 people are living in the apartment, 60sqm, 5 minutes walk to an S bahn station that takes 22min to Alexanderplatz, so some people are not looking good enough.

What? That must be either a very old contract or you must be hella lucky. I'm from Berlin, and I can't think of anoyne without an old contract who has such a renting condition. Congratulations 🎊

@ I moved in here about 2 and a half years ago, September 2022 to be exact, since i dont need to heat my place a lot, rent has been lowered to 560€ per month since December 2024. This price is still possible to get but very hard and only in the east side of Berlin

    • @TheMovementHub

True, in East Berlin one can find more affordable apartments. My friends who moved to Berlin in the past years all moved to the East. Just because it was possible to find one that was affordable.

Wtf... I didn't know it was so bad. I was upset about getting "only" 63k a year in Berlin. Not anymore.

To the 'master in wine': 10 years ago i used to work at the Hilton Our headchef for 4 Kitchens and maybe 40 Chefs was a brit. Maybe its not about you being American, maybe its about your attitude and also your degree. And yes germans have an conservative workculture, but they are being able to change things. Whats important is not to come in, and think you are the wisesed guy in the room and except everyone to be happy for your 'improvements'. Come in, get to know the workplace and than make incrementle changes if nessecary.

What a self centered ego maniac. HR people saw something in this guy and rightfully rejected him. If this guy was my manager I wouldn’t last a day working with him

Surely, everyone decides on his/her own, but my calculation of living costs in Berlin is less optimistic than the ones presented in the video.
The minimum decent monthly amount of 2,000 - 2,500 EUR net you end up with after taxes and paying for rent (which would hardly be less than 1,200 - 1,500) is what I would aim at. Thus you have enough to cherish yourself in good restaurants (not daily of course), pay for groceries, clothes, hobbies and save a little bit for a vacation. And it won't be a luxury life. So your annual salary should be at least around 70K gross. That's for one-person-household without kids. Anything below that seems like survival, honestly

I am slightly connected to the banking world and the guy who says he's in banking and claims 3,000 EUR / mo is good. I'd say that is insanely low. That's just really low for all the things people do with their lives.

Same in Austria. Their biggest nightmare is non-Austrian people in management positions.

migrants in austria are usually not very educated. austria spends a ton of money to improve their formal education, starting from german courses to literacy courses. but sure man, do complain about austria and germany just because youre too lazy to go the extra mile

Well you heard them in the interviews, they see living in Berlin as so much of a perk that they are ok with being underpaid or even close to poor.

Berlin is cheap, especially rent, when you compare it to other major Western European cities. Its even cheaper than other cities in Germany like Munich and Frankfurt.

Berlin is not cheap, competition and prices are almost at Munich level nowadays. And salaries are not.

@@AintImpressedI live in Munich and I can tell you that the prices are not even close. Buying a flat in Munich for example, is about 140% of what you pay in Berlin.

    • @AintImpressed
      @AintImpressed 4 หลายเดือนก่อน

@@TheKwiji yup, buying is a different thing in Munich. Rent's roughly the same now though

@@AintImpressed oh didn't know that. But I wonder, when colleagues from our Berlin office come to our office in Munich, they are always blown away by the expensive restaurant prices. How can they be so cheap in Berlin when rent is so high?

The one that came from London is this typical lazy expat
    1. The standard for 1-2 room flats is not 1500 eur/m, this is just false, these are the leftover junk flats on immoscout, not the typical flats on the market
    2. The salary proposal she got is relatively low, but I can assume, just like housing, she was putting little effort to aim for something decent.
    3. Unfortunately this has to do with what the american said - Germans appreciate credentials over competence, at least when it comes to hiring. This is absurd but understandable, it's hard to assess the competence of a candidate, while credentials are more or less verifiable and actionable.

But he has a point, Germany is obsessed with credentials and not competence. This makes sense because it's extremely hard to asses competence.
Also "go back to your country" is the lowest of the low, he doesn't ask you or anybody else where to live, keep these stupid, stupid opinions to yourself Markus

The American should apply for an acting job, might be better qualified. Overly dramatic - taking a victim mindset in any country will never serve you, especially not for migrants moving to the US. Grow up.
