Yep, 40 years living in Berlin and I can only agree. Many places are run down and dirty and there is a lot of drug related crime. Appearances can be misleading. Take the street I live in, it looks harmless, a typical middle class part of the city with well-to-do neighbours, most of them own their apartments. But we have break-ins, vandalism, - 6 cars were set on fire just a couple of years ago - and even violent robberies. The police don't seem to care or are ineffective because of staff shortages. Homelessness has become a serious issue with people living in tent colonies. The police never used to tolerate this and quickly shooed such people away, but now they seem to turn a blind eye.
I could write a book on all the things wrong in the Berlin, all the things that make life unnecessarily difficult, and it's not going to get better anytime soon. The city has launched a huge project to build more apartments, but 80% of these will be in the mid-price range and far out of reach for the people who need them the most.
If you think Berlin is cool, think again. Just because it offers the coolest night life - with astonishingly sky high prices - doesn't make it a livable place to live in.
Those so cars probably burned by communists.
As a resident of Berlin, I agree for the most part. I see the misery, the dirt, the many needy people and everything that has definitely gotten worse over the decades. Public transport is a disaster. The thing with the homeless is that you are asked for money too often, sometimes up to eight times a day if you travel a lot by train, but otherwise also when you are just going shopping. That wasn't the case 15 or 20 years ago. And if you give money, in 95% of cases of it is spent on alcohol or drugs. But I don't think Berlin is particularly dangerous and I don't feel threatened either.
Public transport a disaster? I beg to differ. Berlin has one of the best tram and public underground transport systems. The inner city rail system (S-Bahn) is maybe not quite as good, but still runs on time. There is a lot about Berlin one can complain about, but public transport is certainly not one of them. As for begging on public transport, this is nothing new. It was already common 30 years ago.
It's because of Karuna. Don't give Karuna money. They have a Van painted like the Yellow Submarine. The head guy is a complete idiot.
@@mikethespike7579 I actually wanted to write this also. The only problem I had with the transport (yes it sometimes breaks down) is having on ac on the uand sbhan in summer. It was horrific the last few weeks but overall its good.
@@mikethespike7579having visited every major capital city in the Europe, no Berlin definitely doesn't have one of the best public transport systems out there lmao😂
@@nAcolz Well, if you claim to have visited every European city and think Berlin's public transport system is not among the best, maybe that's a sign that you are just talking rubbish. I have travelled far and wide and visited most big cities and found that Berlin is comparable to the best systems in the world. London's underground is maybe better, but London is missing a tram system that Berlin also has.
regarding the beggars in PT, and people ignoring them, you can tell the interviewee has only been living 4 months in Berlin...
Of course most people ignore them, try taking the U8 on a daily basis, it is a constant flow of beggars
"Get to know a city through the eyes of people who don't speak the language or understand how things work" 😅Love the concept.
Happy to assist you 😅. But jokes aside, I am convinced that the perspective of an outsider who gained enough experience in a city can be more insightful than that of someone who only lived in his own bubble for his whole life. Since they are often blind to certain things and see them as self-evident. For example, I only understood how truly messed up my hometown (Berlin) is in terms of drug use after moving away for good. And I don't just mean the party scene, but also kids growing up there. But I am also trying to incorporate a few locals perspectives.
@@TheMovementHub what you said ,It is true but what he said is too. In the end you don't know how they know or what they know and as a insider also can see much deeper. But i think what you said is also true. Maybe people have their own thoughts. But i think most of them no matter what are just talking about their perspectives and complains but no further genuine criticism.
So typisch deutsch not taking in ant GOOD BASED criticism. I am a foreigner who speaks perfect German, have lived in this country twice in my life and can understand all the paperwork to a T, and still, all what the interviewees said is completely and utterly true. This channel should now do a mini documentary about medical abuse and negligence. I had never ever in my life met such lazy doctors as in Germany, more specifically in Berlin. Did they get their degrees in a Pringles can?
Berlin = WC....Frankfurt = WC
The worst part is Berliners who are proud of their city, and very bad receptors of criticism. My wife is one of them, took her years to accept that some things are just plain bad in this city. It’s a coping mechanism. That said, it has a lot of bright sides and other European cities are by far no without their own problems.
I live in this city and I love it... great place but serious drug abuse problem...
zero Locals there, just Foreigners and some very entitled ones
That is Berlin 😂 no locals and future Muslim power world wide
As a foreigner living in Berlin. I have noticed the biggest cause of problems in this city and frankly country are other foreigners.
Homeless are polish, discrimination , homophobia, racism comes from the middle east and Turkey. And so on…
Hahaha also the intrusive burocracy, like one interviewee mentioned , or the drugs and the aggressive behaviorlinked to it ( as though germans are angels that don't take drugs)?
But I have to agree with on that, to the extent that a portion of the refugees are taking much of the government expenses and not all of them putting effort to integrate or even worse not willing to adjust their habits.
Germany is missing its "old times"
you mean the old times or the "old times"?
Please, give a decade you are referring to 😅
As a foreigner who has integrated into Berlin and Germany, it takes about 5 years to get used to it - like anywhere you get used to the local culture. A lot of these people sound disconnected or entitled tbh and disillusioned, as every major metropolitan city is like this. Honestly one can complain about lots of things of course, but at the same time Berlin IS Berlin, and that's what makes it different, I find it curious how so many come here without recognising the reason for the way things work here. It's like going to New York City and complaining about homelessness and the traffic and tall skyscrapers and noise...
With the fall of the iron curtain Berlin simply's become the gate to Eastern Europe. A huge part of the homeless ppl aren't even German. No matter if they come from Romania, Bulgaria, Moldavia - for them it is still always better to live on the streets in Berlin than in their home countries. And not being German citizen or have been working here as a EU citizen, they re simply not entitled for social assistance.
Berlin is probably worse than Hamburg where I live.
one thing i dont like about berlin is people thinking we owe homeless people an explanation when we dont give them money, we dont. where is that money going to go? probably illegal substances and alcohol if people believed giving them money was the solution they'd probably do it more.
Not only that, but homeless people can receive a lot of assistance from the German government, so why aren't they going to the proper agencies? They probably have fallen through the cracks due to drug addictions and/or mental illness, but help is available from the state.
Normal people don't not get tickets lady :)
She feels anxiety when she dosent have a ticket?? I know how to make all her anxiety disapprear!
Really interesting to hear the view of the woman about turn styles of the BVG. I love the lack of turn styles! Berlin feels so free because of this. I get a ticket. Trust system. Feels good. Am I the odd one out here? 😛
Wow these are some characters right there. Very interesting perspective and personalities
That's amazing to hear. I agree, they are great.
IMO the civil service is abominable. The lack of personel and non existing digitalization can make life difficult for natives and much more for foreigners.
The city's department of public works and traffic obviously doesn't care how they f*ck up the citizen's freedom of moving around the city.
If I was younger I certainly would leave this place.
But I admit Berlin may be a great place for young people.
4:45. Maybe it is better to build a society that people respect the society and respect each other in society and really have mature minsets to know how to work on your life and work on your family and then be digitalized, of course be digitalized doesnt necessarily mean exclude those parts but ...... I believe this is true, but I think both paper-based and digital things must coexist. I have lived in a highly digitalized world in Asia, where the environment tends to make people more gullible, easily trusting online information, or spending too much time online. This can make people more angry, envious, and jealous, and stop them from doing things that were simple in real life, as well as prevent them from thinking deeply. Digitalization may not be as difficult as it seems, and it is often seen as a sign of a more developed or intelligent society, but that is not always the case. Everything starts from the beginning, and people might need to stop thinking about how much effort it will cost and instead muster the courage to take action.
Danke to that one dude ig ❤ so I was led here
Which one? What did he say?
I woke up a bit hungover, here in Frankfurt and can't get up from the bed cuz I'm watching all your Berlin videos 😂 I'm moving to Berlin in a month so I'm quite hyped... Hope it doesn't disappoint me. I've been there several times to visit friends and I really liked it. I come from a very big city myself and wanna experience that metropolis vibe again (lots of things to do any time of the week, meet new ppl from all over, etc.) also being a programmer makes sense to go Berlin. But we'll see. Don't wanna have too high expectations. All my German friends told me "I think you're gonna enjoy living in Berlin but I really don't like it
" 😂 Cheers
Hi Charly. Thanks a lot for your nice comment. I really hope that living in Berlin will live up to your expectations and that you will have a wonderful time there 🤗
@@TheMovementHub Thanks bro! :D
So digitalization will start as soon as 50s, 60s will retire, otherwise they will lose their job. If this is true, it tells a lot about the political mindset. Getting an appointment for an Anmeldung in months, is not considered a problem for politicians?
With all due respect these people look like zombies with love I hope they get betterment
what you cannot find in Germany...you will get it all in Berlin 😆🤙
The mobs demanding Shariah
Where? U liar where? What mobs .
So true
Berlin ❤❤❤❤
A lot of complaining is going on.. Berlin has a lot to offer..
Berlin has had its best times before 89
Yes - pre wall and after wall.
I mean, nobody is forcing you to live here. And so much complaining, Jesus. How is the City responsible for the weather? Also everybody wants to live in the ring, sure the rents are rising. Then forcing the Berliners to outside the ring, and telling them in the hip Kreuzberg vegan Café that they’re not real Berliners. The hypocrisy is almost funny.
Lokals ?
Is in berlin a lokal speak german?
Homeless is big problem but 70-80 are not german they are from other european like poland were drink in street is 4 biden😂
Poor Romanians, romanian gypsies,
