    Do you bother with bug removal before pre wash?, Does your snowfoam do the work for you?, Do you use APC or a dedicated cleaner?
    Tell me what products you use to deal with bug splatter in the comments ✍🏻

    • @otomoravec1732
      @otomoravec1732 ปีที่แล้ว

      Me personally i “developed” two types of washing routines for my car:
      1) regular full wash - cover the car completely in SX HD 5% solution and any foam over it - this takes care of bugs, bird poo, mud. Pressure rinse. Then shampoo and detailer and so on.
      2) quick rinseless wash with ONR - when the car is just dusty. Naturally ONR is not powerful enough to remove things that are stuck to the surface, so in this case I do use the dedicated product. But honestly never had really great result with these. But since the goal of a quick wash is not perfection (for me), i settled with merely improving on what it would be without using the product at all.
      Thanks for the test!

      @@otomoravec1732 sounds as though you’ve found a pretty good system though for me personally I never got into the whole ONR way of things , I’m def going to try surfex at 5% come winter with a ph neutral showfoam over it for a dwell, thanks for watching 👍

    • @otomoravec1732

      @@GMDetails weeeell ONR is an interesting product, yet i am not crazy about it. It is my first bottle, i just wanted to try it out since many people swear by it. I use it as a light duty apc basically. But something about the way it behaves in water is simply… different.

    • @GMDetails
      @GMDetails  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@otomoravec1732 I have used around half a bottle , I find doing an interior wipe down its brilliant adding a cap of water to the bucket means the damp plastics dry without any water marks but I feel the wash routine is better for a warmer climate without much stuck on debris as you said earlier , but the rag Co claim it’ll remove traffic film as a pre wash and this is simply untrue, here in the uk anyway so it’s left me feeling less than enthusiastic about it

    • @otomoravec1732
      @otomoravec1732 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@GMDetails i would say there is no clear definition on what the so called traffic film actually is. There is incredible variation in types and levels of contamination based on where we live and drive, so everyone’s understanding and results vary.
      I drive a lot in the country and with this dry weather, most of the time the car is covered in a thin uniform layer of light brown dust - basically soil particles picked up by wind from the fields. Quite loose, not really sticky or greasy, so the ONR takes care of that without hassle.

    Surprising results, I'm sure I won't be the only one in a bit of shock!! But the results are the results!!
    Like you said, this isn't a lab test, this is you applying these products to your own bug-splattered car and showing the results!
    Cost wise it'd hard to justify the dedicated product for a lot of budgets but obviously a lot of people don't look at it that way!
    Well edited as always 😉👍🏼

    Did pretty much exactly same test you did and Surfex proved out the overall best for me. Living in the countryside I use a good bit more than your suggested 50ml per car so cost was a consideration. I also tested using garden hose for the reason you outlined but found same results with pressure washer. Interesting your comment on GT Decon and the newly applied Alpha wax as GT state Decon will strip old waxes so was not expecting it to have such an effect on its own brand wax. Enjoyed the way you set this test up, very fair and practical. On a side note, I tried to use Spritzer to mimic Bug Off but get the cost down, ended up with similar results so may be an option for folks.

    • @GMDetails

      I think the test was as fait as I could have been and thanks for confirming you had similar results as has another viewer so it’s certainly thanks to everyone commenting that reassures the facts so thank you mate 👌

  • @DavidMcBay
    @DavidMcBay 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    Interesting video Graeme, I done a similar test a while ago on an un-waxed car minus the surfex and found the products I tried to be very similar in cleaning.
    You have demonstrated how different results can be on a waxed car which is great as it shows some different things that you need to consider if your car is protected.

    • @GMDetails
      @GMDetails  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Exactly mate. Due to testing different things I actually rarely have a good coating of protection on my car so a good strong cleaner is never usually a problem but different story on a waxed car 🤔

    I did this comparison last week between zero and bug off, I had similar results. The only other pro with bug off is it doesn't dry out nearly as fast as zero so given a proper dwell time I find it always works better.

    • @GMDetails
      @GMDetails  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks Dean!, it’s great to get another opinion, and yes dwell time being the gel like spray of bug off is brilliant , I do really like it , and even at £7 a litre the now it’s a very good product for the money

  • @andywhite2930
    @andywhite2930 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    What a great test. Another detailing product some of us question whether it's just a gimmick?? I guess it both is and isn't. For me iv never felt I needed one. A good prewash and snow foam has done the job. Interesting though just how good Bug off is yet safe on lsp. Surfex bores the hell out of me to use(prefer Green Star). Zero Decon at the magic 1:10 we now is a blinder and cleaning but wow it really smashes the lsp. I think this video really has some opportunity for testing more pre washes and bug removers. Zero at lesser dilutions, how about One SF in a trigger at 3%, or another AG product we love like Spritzer. Could this deliver the same result? Thanks for a great video though.

    • @GMDetails
      @GMDetails  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks Andy, yeah I was really surprised the wax took such a hit on hydrophobics with zero at 10-1 I really like Bug Off but Surfex was indeed boring but worked perfectly , the world of pre wash APC’s are all different, I’ll try one snowfoam at 3% on bugs and see what difference that has as a comparison. 😎

  • @thedetailinghobbyist
    @thedetailinghobbyist 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    I’ve never had a huge problem with bug splatter coming off during pre-wash. Ive always used Surfex which definitely works well like in your test. Recently I’ve used Mile Deep ‘Release’ citrus and that’s never struggled either.
    I was surprised how easily the GT Decon killed the protection though!

    • @GMDetails
      @GMDetails  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I was surprised as well, as GT have always stated it would clean a good wax in early stages rather than remove a freshly waxed panel, especially one with such a high degree of protection in it 🤔

    Good , useful video Graham 👍🏻, i've just bought some Surfex HD as i am moving away from generic citrus APC's. Much more versatile. I think at 20:1 Surfex still does a great job as a prewash under snow foam for very dirty cars. Personally at 10:1 i would use it on wheels & tyres.

    • @GMDetails
      @GMDetails  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks Alan. I’ve been quite disappointed lately with some citrus cleaners, more recently Carbon Collective (review to come) so Surfex might be a good shout as a pre soak, tho with the GT One Snowfoam I found there wasn’t a need for anything under it at all but I don’t let my car get very dirty that it needs a powerful degreaser, maybe in winter we’ll see 🤔

    • @alantaylor2
      @alantaylor2 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@GMDetails Totally agree Graham with the citrus cleaners & some are vastly overpriced too. The benefits of Surfex are that you can have 1 product for almost everything & just vary the dilution ration ratios accordingly. I don't let our cars get too dirty but you never know what winter or circumstances will bring but i guess you could always add 10ml or so of GT Decon for an extra kick without compromising any coating/wax. My shelves are getting cluttered with too many different products so now i am de-cluttering and just using the GT Range, Surfex & a couple of specialist things. Too many products are over hyped, overstated & over priced.The first Citrus APC i bought was 5L AutoBrite Direct APC , nearly £40 with delivery & Surfex HD is £19. It's a no-brainer really . Also think that Surfex HD contains rust inhibitors.👍🏻

      Appreciate it Alan!, I genuinely think some people just don’t know enough of product comparison to tell any different, and if they get it free they feel kind of obliged to say it’s good, Specky actually said this a couple weeks ago , that he can only really be critical on a product he buys, they’d be as well saving the brand some money & just giving up with an attitude like that 🙄
