Used tardis years a go, however I have seen first hand the damage it can do, have seen it crack certain plastics instantly and it has made contact with them, I have been using Koch tea for quite a while now with no problems.
After the ‘Mango Tree’ rendition, I wondered whether you had been drinking the Gyeon product 😂

Another thorough evaluation of products Jon. You can buy 5 litres of Autoglym Tar and Glue Remover in a tin like you can AS Tardis but prices vary.
Bilt Hamber surprised me with the price and potency.

I didn't even realise that BH done a Tar removal product - just thought that it was a straight up panel wipe.
Definitely think Eulex is worth having since after reading the SDS it's made of Butyl Acetate which works fantastically as a glue remover. Tardis contains up to 50% Xylene, which will soften rubber but is a strong solvent to dissolve tar.
Good Tardis won because that’s what I use and it works great
These prices seem unreal, but maybe that is just a consumer getting shafted. Personally I use a naphtha heavy distillate based solvent cleaner for all those tasks (especially road bitumen removal) and I buy 5 liters of it for €12 off my local body shop. That's €2.4 per liter and this stuff really works wonders. I guess that it is most similar to Tardis.
What are your thoughts on petrol as a tar remover, I know not the perfect product but cheap and readily available. Detailing World did a product comparison including petrol and rated it quite well ??
I think White Spirit / Kerosene / Paraffin is more likely to be used for this than petrol.
Koch chemie EU is basically thinner solvent used in bodyshops for painting ect, it doesn't cost that much neither.
I’m in the US and don’t think I can get many of these products but, how do you think they might stack up against a strong citrus APC? We have a product called “goo be gone” here that is pretty well known that I’ve used with success for glues and adhesive. 👍🏻👍🏻 keep up the good work.
One tar and glue remover that is worth mentioning is Autobright tar and glue remover, which can be bought in a 750ml spray bottle for £11.75 (that's 'Autobright', not the more commonly known 'Autobrite'). I find this product to be both fantastic and very versatile - it's marketed as a tar and glue remover, wax and sealant remover, pre-wax cleanser/panel wipe, and spot stain remover - all of which I've used this item for, and found it to be pretty good. Worth checking out!
I buy Tardis by the 5ltr as is also the best Mares / Horses tail killer I know. 1 quick squirt and it's dead within 24hr as long as its dry. Also kills other weeds too.
Eu for me as a weekend warrior. But trade I can see Tardis looks best.
Hey Jon try having a look at Vasco pre wash for tar and glue removal. Has become market leader over in Ireland in last 12 months. Can be left on car for hours out of sunlight with no risk of inflicting damage
Am I right in saying all of these are suitable to fully remove wax coating/residues etc before rewaxing? I know bilt hamber cleanser fluid is for this purpose but not sure about others... Thanks great vid

Try brake cleaner its great for tar etc plus it's very safe! Price is very good around £30 for 5L

I use the Autoglym. Just because I use autoglym for everything and I worry about mixing products, I like to think products from the Same manufacture and designed to be used with each other. Would you be bothered about mixing products?
No, generally you shouldn't have anything to worry about. Most folks use products from a wide range of brands depending on who makes the best product in that category.
For me the best way to remove tar and glue is to wet a towel with thinners and wipe the car from halfway and down then give it a cut and polishe never had a problem be doing it for years.
I bought tetrosyl panel wipe as per your recommendation on an earlier video. At £20 for 5ltr I am surprised not to see this on your list
so am i, im also extreemely disapointed to see him wearing a snake oil sweatshirt Garage Therapy, the latest snake oil brand to hit the market! I like the Car Pro product for removing this stuff.
great vid Jon thanks. Have you ever tried Auto Brite "Just the Tonic" ? would love to know your thoughts on that. Been using it since i started detailing a year ago. Can i ask if you have to dilute Tardis down? All the best.
Mineral spirits also known as "solvent" is still the best for removing gunk...

I love the best of videos as it saved me lots of time and expense to build a solid detailing arsenal to work with. Trying new products is great but not always financially viable 👍
Great that you included the polycarb test. I've never trusted tar and glue removers after seeing horror stories so will continue to spray into the cloth only.
Although it has the potential issue to damage I'll probably opt for to buy both koch chemie and autosmart to try in replacement of autobrite because KC is just so cheap to ignore

Would you consider KC Orange Power some time in your reviews? It's really different fron EU and pretty unique among competition. Setting aside the price, I couldn't find something as effective as OP and also safe
I tried the valet pro citrus tar & glue. As a basic tar remover I was very underwhelmed and annoyed as I’d purchased 5 litres of it and as you said for glue not great in anyway. As soon as I got the Autosmart chap out all is well again. I think I paid £20 for 5litres too!

I found it interesting john, that you called tardis “safe” and Eulex unsafe. Is the polycarbonate more important than your health? Eulex is not marked as harmful to HUMANS and tardis is clearly marked as can cause longterm health issues such as carcinogenic or mutogenic dangers. Eulex for me all day long. Great video, maybe considering the safety to humans over plastics makes more sense to me! 😉
yes and germand regs are a lot stricter on this. Tardis done really feel like its got some hard core stuff in it :) I agree. but it didnt mark the poly carb. I also love the fact you can water rinse it.
How does cleanser fluid do for removing polishing oils?

great question, I would say it could but theres unknowns there.. emulsifiers etc.. maybe slower flashing... it might not be ideal as a panel wipe.. I would ask autosmart to get a better answer.

Alot of people will say dont do it but someone I know uses wd40 iv tried it once but prefer tardis myself.
Another enjoyable vlog Jon on comparisons - you are the go to for that intel. I used Power Maxed tar remover and whilst following the instructions can only assume I got some overspray on the plastic diffuser on my M2 comp. Yep, bloomin damaged it with what looks like a lightening / white spots you’d get from say polish on plastic before removal. Not a happy bunny and probably best part of £100 down to resolve. Tardis will be my go to moving forward primarily because of your excellent choice of tests. Cheers Kevin.

Yeah the polycarbonate clear headlight lens get bugs on them so what is the best cleaning bug and tar remover that wont damage the lens that youd recommend?

no dont use tar and glue removers on poly carb.. use a detail factory brush and a water based APC or citrus cleaner.. let it soak the bugs out and then wipe them with the detail factory soft tip brush.. this is the best way to sort bug splatter without scratching paint.

I think gyeon or koch would be the ones to consider next but I dont think they emulsify down so well with water but they work fine.

nothing strips a wax if its fresh... cleanser fluid will degrade more. thats the only thing I can say..

Jon. I honestly think I’m losing it. Can you help. As ever. Pump sprayer for tar. N-butyl acetate. Bought vitan seals sprayer bottle safe for brake fluid sprayer. 24 hours later eaten the seals using EU KC. Chemical resistant 2x spray head and dedicated sprayer later I’m long beaten. Even google search came up nothing normal-butyl acetate safe pump sprayer. Where should I go. Thanks. Dan.
Watching other videos people using without spray pump. Aha ??? Is this the issue. I shouldn’t be using a sprayer but straight on towel…. This is very hard work. Google no good. Products are ace. Getting it on panel as a noob… well , hmmmm ….. !!!!!
I use it in a IK trigger sprayer the hydrocarben white one and its been fine. I think with tardis its very very strong stuff and with a pump sprayer you risk over applying. its not something you want to flood the car with, especially in the summer. better to have in trigger sprayer mist onto panel. Prime out a microfiber cloth with tardis. spray onto the panel and then work a nice film of it over the wing for example. (put more on any chunks) and then buff that panel clean. Or you could rinse it off if you want. but the little buff wiill really pull more off the panel. this would be done when preping for machine polish really so buffing on a surface with tar is no big deal. as a maintainance thing you could mist over a panel and just rinse for a light sort of decon of any tar. I would perhaps consider ditching using it in a pump system.

Taris / EU such strong stuff. BTW!!!! I'm hardly using BH Touchless unless it's a nice car with wax on it. I'm going hard TFR ( foaming TFR ) into a snow cannon with shampoo mix, dwell 5-7 mins cool day, lightly wash brush around car and done. Really gets the car re-greased, 30 mins wash get the car clean !!!
@@forensicunplugged4295 Jon. Jon. Jon. It’s still sunny. IK HC 1.5 white hydrocarbon product arrived today nice packaging and instructions and saying ‘ No Acid’ bottle. Thought to check. Googled Acetone and it says it’s a very mild Acid. So that doesn’t worry me. Under Alkalines and Ketones tho and Acetate it says no. Is it Tardis in your HC IK??? Cheers. This KChemie EU looks very weighty on acetone and chews through seals just on vapours !!!! Never pump sprayed the brake fluid VITON seal 16 quid bottle and all the seals dropped out in the bottom bottle !!! Lol. What a mission tar remover is.
