First bike was a new R6. Fantastic bike. New bike, 2021 ZX-6R KRT, also an amazing bike. The R7 looks neat, but it's definitely in a class below, not on par with the other two.
Already owned a ZX6R and loved it. I have a GSXR 750 now and Iike it but rather the ZX6R better. Now I am interested in the R7, most of my riding is on the street and with the R7 I can use a lot of the bikes potential and have tons of fun. I got in more trouble with my ZX6R and GSXR 750 and was only in 1st or 2nd gear.
I feel you bro... My ZX6R is track only now so I'm looking to get myself a street naked for relaxed riding coz the spirited riding is best enjoyed at the track... with the r7, you can actually enjoy both if you wanted to.
@@RiderXp just took a ride this morning on a naked GSXS 750 it was fun but I am really looking forward to getting on that R7. Also wondering if Yamaha will do a R9 to fill the gap between the R7 and R1. I think a R9 with a street triple would be sweet for those looking for a little more horse power.
I really, REALLY want an '03 ZX9R, but I'll take an '00-'02. I currently have a '21 ZX6R, and do like it, but liked my old '07 ZZR600 (remanufacturing of the '00-'02 6R), and those older Kawis share the same frame, body, and ergos. And DAMN were they ergonomic. The 9R will feel just like my old bike, but with a good bit more grunt. Looked into the GSX750 a few times over the year, but it just couldn't fill the niche I want.
If you feel like the R7 doesn't have enough hp than the bike wasn't intended for you That's what Yamaha is saying. Its meant for newer riders and people trying to upgrade off a R3 that might just want something with a little more power. It wasn't made to replace the R6 or go up against a zx6R or a Suzuki gsxr or a Honda cbr 600 they all make more power the motorcycle world already knows this. The R7 will be a good everyday bike for people riding in city streets. It Makes more torque than the current r6 so riding around town in low range when you hit that throttle it will feel like its pulling hard. And it will be a decent track bike especially when a few years go by and you can get one used for half the price.
agreed, it'll be a great bike for people coming from a 300 and are mostly going to ride around town... we're yet to see how it does in twins cup. If a few of them do well, that'll make the pitch even better
There are wayyyy better bikes than R7 for everyday city riding. For everyday riding you need forgiving ergonomics, R7 does NOT offer that. R7 is ONLY for people who prioritize looks/dollar above everything else. It is NOT at all a "good everyday bike for people riding in city streets".
@@awnis001 if you wanna be technical no true sport bike is really good for everyday riding. I been riding since 2003 a lot of different brands and they all kill my back. So for every day riding u would need a cruiser. Or a mt07 or the mt09. But back to the R7 what bike for under 10 grand brand new you can get with the same power and reliability. And please don't say aprilia because they are nowhere near as reliable as Yamaha and parts are harder to find you go to a shop everything needs to be ordered. I been riding for 18 years I had lots of different brands I'll take Yamaha reliability over a bike that makes an extra 15 hp anyday of the week
I really appreciate this video! I have been on the fence on either the zx6r, R7, or the GSXR-600. I’m pretty sure the ZX6R is where it’s at! I learned a lot from your video. Thank you again. Cheers.
Dude! I really appreciate your appreciation! Especially because I've recieved a lot of brick bats from people for comparing an inline 4 with an a twin cylinder.. even though they never watched the video and made perceptions only based on the thumbnail. So thanks for the comment, I'm really glad that this helps you make an informed decision! Cheers!
How much did you pay for your bike total? I went to a dealer to sit on some bikes and the guy said he sold one for 15k when msrp is around 10,200 just curious
Twins are a lot more fun than 4s in the city. The more open road between you and your destination, the better a 4 becomes. My CB500X is a lot more fun in Atlanta than my previous Z800 because it’s lighter, I can use every RPM every ride, and I can get the feeling of using the chassis closer to its limit at city speeds.
I drive a ZX-6R in an Asian city... perhaps I am a 50 year old mad man, but for me the ZX-6R is as comfortable in the city as my Ninja 400... For me the R7 just felt cheap and nasty... not an improvement on the Ninja 400, hence that's why I got the 2022 ZX-6R. Also the R7 felt nowhere as nice as the Yamaha R1 either... totally different leaugue in quality, despite being from same manufacturer.
Agreed, they're not... points I'm making in the video are slightly different though. Plus, unless one's racing, the class wouldn't make much of a difference.
Heck yeah !!! This Comp needed to be done ✅ Yamaha deserves a whole bunch of criticism for discontinuing the r6, and cheapened out and left us with just the r7, idk I think they tried to market to younger beginner riders being that the 600 in line 4 was sort of the starter learner bike to race on in the 90’s up to the 2000’s and beyond , but we know how that kind of turned out with inexperienced riders dying , but I really believe they shouldn’t of discontinued a legend of a bike in the r6 , yeah the r7 has a market , but don’t take away the r6 , it has a market too I was seriously considering pulling the trigger on an r6 and buying it , but they just gave my business and a lot of others to kawi’s zx6r , now I’m only left with two choices in the in line 4 cylinder 600’s the gsxr600 or the zx6r , and Kawasaki really opened my eyes really understanding what their customers want , but they also have their flaws but overall Kawasaki are a lot of bang for the buck , Yamaha prices a twin cylinder 1200 dollars less than a screaming in line 4 , which you are correct brings more fun factor for the buck , the Kawasaki zx6r and the r6 are great second bikes to learn to get up to handling a liter bike down the road if that is your goal , but the r7 is a bike if your dead set on not getting a r3 , ninja300 , ninja 400, and gsxr250. , except maybe the ninja400 but really , nobody wants to keep those bikes , they lose their fun factor fast 💨 ... , so I guess if you really liked the twin cylinder 700 , it could be a favorite forever bike , but the zx6r , IMO holds a lot more value imho ✅ thx for sharing 👍👍👍
Hey thanks for watching and liking. I had this feeling the day they announced the R7 but nobody seemed to be talking about how that benefits the case of a ZX6R. I’ve loved the zx6r on streets and now i’m finding it a very good bike to learn riding at the track. As i start chasing laptimes, not having an auto blipper is a bit of a bummer but for the streets that’s not a showstopper. And I was surprised how comfortable the ZX6R was for street riding being a supersport. The GSXR600 is a good option too, you should actually watch another video I made comparing the 4 supersport options ( that was before Kawi announced the 2022 ZX6R for the US though). Again, thanks for watching! Ride hard, stay safe 🤟🏼
@@RiderXp heck yeah I love the info on how these bikes match up from riders going up the chain , going into different forms and function as daily street bikes (race replicas) and also about their likes and dislikes 👎 and the news of upcoming bike announcements, but yeah thank you for sharing all this content , subbed 👍👍👍❤️❤️❤️🔥🔥🔥💯💯💯👌👌👌
I understand your comparison isn't necessarily to do with what class of bike they're in, so i appreciate that. But for anyone looking at either bike, the r7 does not compare to the zx6r in almost all respects except for maybe its looks (I am definitely a fan of yamaha's aesthetics). If you want faster, better on track, better sounding and more value out of a tune, the zx6r is more than enough.
As someone who rode 25k miles on a 2015 ZX6R 636, I sold it for a 2019 Yamaha MT07. The MT-07 is a farrr better street bike. A torquey wheelie happy engine is better 90% of time than a high revving inline 4. The 636 was gutless until about 7k rpm. Honestly, other than suspension, top speed, and track performance.. that's really the only thing the ZX6R was better at. Plus comparing two totally difference class bikes is kind of dumb. It should really be compared to bikes such as the RS660 and such.
My opinion is, any two bikes can be compared, cylinders and engine capacity aren't alway the consideration. As for MT07, I'm sure it's a fun bike, i prefer the XSR700 avatar of that engine. Infact, I'm actually considering the xsr for my street bike since the zx6r is fully track set up now
To reverse your argument the only thing going for an MT07 is its ergonomics and the engine (engine is completely debatable since the 636 engine is a masterpiece) The 636 has a far superior chassis, suspension setup, brake setup, twice the power and acceleration. Did you not much go to the track with the 636? I cant even fathom how you could downgrade to a MT07 chassis if you have experienced a 600 on track.
I agree with you most of it except the sound. I kinda get bored of 4 inline sound. The 2 CP engine sound is better choice for me. But i will not buy R7. The price is too high and comes in the range of ZX6R. With ZX6R you'll get a lot more power for 1000 dollar plus. R7 should be 7499 dollar. lol
Yeah! Looks and sound are pretty subjective and can vary depending on personal preference. So I see what you're saying. As for the price, It's kinda hard to tell whether Kawi made the zx cheaper or Yamaha made the R7 more experience.. 😃
@No_Name understood and agree to a point as the older super sports actually had a more street friendly positioning at their inception. i can be corrected if I'm wrong
R7 is a sheep in wolfs clothing. Its pretending to be the real thing in an age where people pay more attention to superficial things like appearance instead of performance. How Yamaha can charge 10k € for a faired MT07 is beyond me.
Try riding them back to back. I know it's hard to do that in the US, hope you can get a taste of the ZX at a Kawasaki Demo day.. they do tend to run those around this time of the year. R7 demo ride may be difficult to come across but you could try reaching out to some dealerships around you and see if they are running any. Best of luck! Hope you can get one you like soon.
I'm a huge Yamaha fan too. The R6 was great. Being in the market for a new one, I was disappointed they were discontinued. After looking for an alternative, I'm exceptionally happy to have gone with a '21 ZX-6R KRT. Very similar to the R6, just slightly less agressive seating position, which means a more comfortable ride for me.
Current R7 owner here, it's a great bike and has enough power for me for now, but - I'd sure be interested in trying the new ZX6R when it becomes available a month from now. I hear it will have a quickshifter both up and down, color TFT dash, etc.
I don't own either bikes, but I came very close to buying the ZX6R. The Yamaha R7 was never a consideration! In the end I went with the best of the best, the 2022 GSXR 750! It out performs them all in its category and weighs less also! Everyone has aftermarket parts and who cares about all the electronic crap! It all gets turned down or off in the end! Spend a little more cash and start making this bike a serious street or track weapon! Its going to handle great, stop great, corners great and is fast! Like, keep up with the liter bikes on the street if you are riding canyon or mountain roads. In the end I am positive I made the best choice for me and my desired plans for the bike. Many mods completed already and just a few more to go. A SERIOUS RACE BIKE IS IN THE MAKING!! LOADS OF FUN!!
GSXR750 is a great bike! At the end of the day, it does boil down to individual preferences. As for keeping up with 1000s, that’s not the goal atleast for me. I strive to improve my skill, which bikes i’m chasing and which one’s i’m passing start to mean less and less as I’m gaining more experience and skill. Good luck with your race build, do focus on seat time as well 👍🏼
@@RiderXp Yes, skills are most important and I subscribe to many channels, books and classes learning all I can from anyone who has proven themselves as a racer or teacher in the motorcycle profession. I study riders and racers, the good ones and the bad ones because even from other peoples mistakes, crashes, and failures one can learn if you evaluate and scrutinize the where they went wrong! Yes any motorcycle can be good just for riding and I'm sure for someone even the R7 will be the perfect bike. For me I was looking for more without playing the 1000cc game. To much for the street in my opinion, but to each his own. Safe and good times in your saddle!
Great review 👍 It's the first proper zx6r comparison I've heard to be fair. While I agree with your comments about staying within your own limits in power terms, on the Rd it's also about staying within other people's abilities as well 😉👍
I’m glad you liked it. Thanks. And that’s a good point about taking others into account while on the road. My take on that is, just never assume that others are going to follow the rules of the road, be prepared for when they don’t and you’ll be safe. So far have ridden motorcycles of different capacities and type in Asia, Europe and North America, the approach has worked at least on these 3 continents irrespective of the bike.
Sir, what a really fair response and i also agree with you totally as I own no motorcycle but spend so much time watch all these vlogs about the 600 class. I cannot afford a motorcycle as other commitments and spending power ( salary) limits such.
Honestly the two are such different machines. I own a 2021 636 and have tracked the R7. While the R7 is a fantastic machine in it's own respects I don't feel comparing the 2 is apple to apples. In the end the 636 is soooo much more bang for your buck and a much more aggressive machine.
Hey! What a pleasant surprise this video made it to you! And i see why a lot of people are pointing out that it's not a fair comparison to make, though i have a point of view that a lot of people seems to share. The 'more bang for the buck' is the exact premise. Thanks for watching 👍
@@RiderXp it is a fantastic and necessary vlog that is genius to have done as is and now has caused good reasoning to be given to the fact that for Yamaha and their R7, it really is a money making move with the street riders as the intended market especially with the way purchasing power has shifted form super sports to more street friendly or user friendly street machines. Street friendly with a sporty appeal two birds caught with one stone.
I was just talking about this today! The R7 makes no sense at it's price point. For 2300 hundred more you're looking at the RS 660 or a ZX6R. Both of which are way more capable bikes than the R7. Whether you want comfort or performance, either one is a better option than the Yamaha.
I've got a lot of brickbats for making this comparison, so comments like your validates the intention with which I made the video. So thank very much for the support. - Faraz
A bit of a biased comparison i have to say. I understand why some aspects seem to indicate that these two bikes are comparable but really they are not. The R6 is the 636 competitor, not the R7. (yes the R6 is being discontinued since the supersport market is freefalling, especially in Europe) The only bike that could be compared to the R7 right now is the Aprillia 660 RS. I noticed too that you failed to mention that the R7 is lighter and has way more torque. Let's be honest, the 636 is gutless at mid-range and if you were to need a quick pass punch, the mid-range torque of the R7 would be much more efficient than having to drop 2 gears on the 636. Also the 636 is pretty much the same bike since 2013, which explains why you can probably barter the price at the dealership, the R7 is a brand new bike. Overall the R7 is probably a much more fun package for the street, which is were most people spend their time on two-wheels (for 2000$ less).
I can see why a lot of people disagree with that comparison and that's fine. Everybody has a right to their opinion. In my opinion, any two motorcycles are comparable. When someone starts looking to buy a motorcycle they look at various different options and aspects. Engine configurations and technical specs aren't the only parameters. As for the comparison with RS660, yes absolutely, that is another comparison video that I've already done. You should consider watching it. Also, I'm a big supporter of actually test riding any bike before buying it because what might feel torquee and good mid range grunt to me, may not feel good enough to someone else, because our perceptions are based on our experience which may differ. Thank you for you comment though. It's good to see different perspectives.
@@RiderXp I did test ride a 636, a 2019 one, and i loved it, but all i wanted to do with it was go to the track. I didn't get to try the R7 though yet, but i did try the MT07 and and it was a lot of fun on the street.
I hear you. The MT07 is on my radar for my next street bike, I keep hearing criticism about it's suspension, but I'd like to test ride it myself and make up my mind. I do like the XSR700 even better, but they seem to be hard to come by. Thanks for watching and supporting the videos. I hope to bring more interesting content soon.
I gotta say I’d love to get an r9 but reality is the zx6r is basically the bread and butter of this style it’s too bad Yamaha doesn’t even compete in this category I want a Yamaha but I know an r1 is just too much bike for me right now or maybe never would be nice to have an r9 nice and torquey all you really ever need 3 cylinder but if it doesn’t come out next year I’ll probably be getting the zx6r yes very blah brand and bike but oh well it fits what I need
Oh I would love to track an R9. I have a XSR900 for street riding which has the same engine as the MT09 and R9 (expectedly). The xsr & mt platform’s biggest weakness is the frame and suspension. I along with tons of others in the racing community are hoping the R9 gets the magical R6 frame on it. Then the dilemma for me would be to sell the zx6r on which I’ve spent a lot of time, money and track miles. We’ll see what happens when we get there.
This is the first time I have seen one of your videos. I liked and subscribed, losts of good information. I got my motorcycle license in 1981. I remember back around 1998 when Yamaha had a homologation R7 that had 4 cylinders. I bought my first R1 in 1999. I was a little disappointed to see the R7 as a twin, but I'm over that now. The new R7 is a beautiful bike and I think is great for people who don't necessarily need excessive power. It has enough power to have fun on streets and state highways. The insurance is probably more affordable also. Interstate highways is another story....A 600 4 cylinder bike in my opinion, at the least, is necessary for the interstate and turnpikes. The only choice for me is a 1000 so I don't have to downshift unless things get really serious!!😂😁 I have owned 600's and they are excellent learning tools for riding fast and in my opinion are a step you shouldn't skip over before buying your first 1000. It will make you a better rider. Stay safe and thank you for your great informative video!
Thank you for sharing your insights, i’m glad you found the videos informative. I Concur with your take on the R7, I definitely think that for relatively newer riders (1-2 yrs possibly) the new R7 is actually a good sporty option. For experienced riders, options abound! Lately retro bakeds have peaked my interest because of 80s nostalgia and just the right balance of power and tech. Next video is about those bikes which will transition into on of those bikes that I actually ended up buying myself recently. Please consider subscribing if you are ineligible in full sized naked retros like the XSR900 and it’s contemporaries. Cheers!
That comparison has been done in another video (link: th-cam.com/video/v_jC9vazeew/w-d-xo.html )This one is just my individual take on both bikes being so close in price and Yamaha calling the R7 a supersport.
I can get the R7 Lams and have it unrestricted once I’m on my full license saving me a good deal of money. I love both but keep getting pulled into the zx6r
Are we all just gonna look past the fact that the R7 Isn't designed to compete with the ZX6R. For one the R7 is a 2 cylinder 689/650 (Depending on where you by it) when the ZX6R is a 636cc in-line 4. The R7 was never meant to go up against the ZX6R It's a competitor for the ninja 650 and honda cbr650r. comparing these two is like comparing a ninja 400 to the h2 because their both sport bikes.
I did make another video comparing the R7 with the Ninja650 , CBR650R & the Aprilia 660RS. You could consider watching it on the channel. This video is purely from the perspective of price segment and target customers. Thanks for the feedback though.
What is the point of yamaha making a somewhat beginner/intermediate street bike but not including crucial tech. Traction control and slipper clutch is a must especially since it's super torque heavy.
Fair points. I did miss a slipper clutch when I test rode it... not so much the traction control. But that's probably because I mostly ride my ZX on the race track so I don't use TC anyway.
I mean he literally explained that at the beginning of the video 😂 why don’t you go back and actually listen to what he says instead of asking everyone else to explain it to you.
*:-Yamaha R7 is just Sport bike similar to Ninja 650 & it's definitely not a Super* (except price) *:-Ninja ZX6R is out of league for R7* 😌 *No offense, but I guess not having HyperSport in Yamaha's Lineup is affecting their naming sense* 🤭
Correct, that’s exactly my point. The pricing is close to a supersport even though it isn’t one. It’s not super competitive either in the Twins racing class where RS660s are beating the hell out of the R7s at MotoAmerica Twins cup. R7 is just a beautiful looking slightly quicker competition for the Ninja 650 but in pricing it’s now competing with a much superior ZX6R.
Thanks! The Ninja400 is a great bike to learn all the riding techniques on. I would highly recommend doing a few trackdays and speed up the skill development process. Good luck 👍🏼
@@RiderXp absolutely, will do. I have ABS my bike and would probably get it on a ZX-6R. I noticed your zx-6r has/had ABS, does it interfere on the track?
It did have ABS. I kept it until I got into intermediate group and then I did an ABS delete. The ABS never interfered with my braking at the track but in Novice group, I never had to brake hard enough. Now the bike is completely track set-up, no ABS, Brembo master cylinder, steel braided lines.. the works!
Thank you. When I got the race fairings, i got those painted to match the stock Grey. That’s what it looks like now: instagram.com/p/CYEWU1ePKWv/?igshid=YmMyMTA2M2Y=
No, it is not a fair comparison. Not even close. R7 is an MT07. Just because it looks like a supersport doesn't make it a supersport. The R7 is a bike that doesn't make sense.
In 2024, the price difference is now over 3k. I'm looking for a new bike but I don't care about any track riding. That's not my thing nor do I care about comparing dicks to anybody else over who's bike is faster.. But I like both of these bikes and I'm kind of undecided on which one to get 😩
I like how you think. Tbh, if it’s going to be street riding only I would consider 650 class naked bikes over 600cc sportbikes. Those are a lot more comfortable, practical, better on maintenance and fuel and still a lot of fun to ride. Just my two cents.
You might find this one useful. Slightly bigger bikes, but if you can ride sensibly, these are some fun bikes I had the opportunity to test ride: th-cam.com/video/V5mjHNuXICk/w-d-xo.html
Im only 15 and am wanting to get a bike at some point in the future, im more then likely gonna start on a ninja 400 but maybe after that id consider getting a zx6r but that is a very big jump so idk.
You’re right, the ZX6R may be too much for a first bike. Please watch this video i made showing bikes with different engines sizes: th-cam.com/video/S4hOzGn1neY/w-d-xo.html
I test road the R7 and it feels great on the street, enough power for fun. If you need more power then you aren't doing anything legal on the streets. The debate isn't if they are in the same league but if you want to spend the $1200/$1800 to step up to the next league. The R7 is in the same league as the ninja 650 but has the super sport seating position. I don't plan on doing any track days so is it stupid to spend the money on the power? or is it irresponsible not to get the bike that has the better power to cost value? THIS IS MY STRUGGLE
Hey Jake! Most of the points you made are in line with how I'm thinking about it too. An important aspect to think about is (Which I think wasn't part of this video) is what kind of riding are you going to do. I made another video comparing the R7 with Ninja650, CBR650 and Aprilia66 and also summarized what kind of rider/riding do each of those work for. If Street riding is your focus, then a supersport isn't really the bike to go after anyway. That's just my two cents.. I'd love to discuss this further.
@@RiderXp Just watched that video, I'm coming from a Honda CBR 300, so I want more power and I like the aggressive riding style so that is why I went R7 over Ninja650. My worry is if I get the R7 will I get bored of it quickly to where the extra money will give me a bike I will not have to upgrade from. I don't think I will get bored of it but when I ride with my brother that has an R6 he will make it look slow. BTW great videos, I'm guessing you will grow and do very well if you keep up the good work
You should also test ride the CBR650R.. I've ridden the CBR650F (upgraded from a CBR250R) and the CBR650R seems to have everything that the F lacked even when it was already a great bike. In terms of power, it's a reasonable step up, usable around town and even some highspeed runs. The only downside I see in the Honda over the R7, is that it's a bit heavy, though much more comfortable. As for competing with the R6, that's where the ZX6R comes into the picture. As for getting bored of a bike... that really varies for different individuals. I typically end up changing bikes every 3 years no matter how much I love the current bike. Only exception was my first bike (A bajaj 150) that I sold only when I moved countries.. Thanks for the appreciation, I'm doing my best, though I can't keep up with the speed of uploads, I do focus on quality of my research.
If I can chime in, the r7 is like an aggressive supersport without the big scary engine. I rode it twice recently and although the riding position can be fun, I felt my body feeling sore after riding. Lots of pressure on my wrists and overall the bike feels like a toy. So light, so agile. Unless you plan on taking it to the track every other weekend, I would say the more cost effective bike is the kawi. That's not to say that Kawasaki doesn't have any flaws. Having owned 2 kawisaki motorcycles, I am convinced that they are just a lazy company. Yamaha is always pushing the envelope and creating exhilarating machines. Kawasaki finds something that works and sticks to it....for years. So my advice if you're not a millionaire and you can only buy one, get the kawi.
I like your take on that. Thanks for the contribution! Oh by the way, for that pressure on the wrist problem, If you're riding a supersport, try gripping the bike with your legs and only use the hands to lightly hold the bike and steer. I'd love to know if it made it better for you.
I currently ride the 2017 ninja 1000 sports tourer…I don’t have any experience with super bike 600 class. I’m just curious how someone would describe the torque of the 636?
I ride my 2019 ZX6R at the track only now. That bike isn't about torque in my experience but more about power, especially at the top. The Ninja1000 is a great bike for the purpose it's built.
I'm not sure which one is being called 'Sport touring' here. The R7 is being raced at the Twins Cup in MotoAmerica and the ZX6R has always been a supersport raced in several different series.
@@RiderXp that was a typo. What I meant to say is the r7 is basically a sport touring dressed up as a super sport. The r7 would be comparable to the Zx4Rr. It doesn’t compare to a ZX6R in any category
@@user-nu6vq1su4k I'm not convinced that the R7 is a sports tourer. It's too aggressive to be used for touring (no matter how sporty). Honda used to call the CBR650F a sports tourer and I rode it a 1000 miles in a day. I can tell you, that was not fun and the sports tourer tag even on the CBR650F was a misnomer. The R7 is, however, definitely comparable to the ZX4R (which didn't exist when I made this video 1 yr ago) because it makes similar power and the price tag seems to be in the same area.
@@RiderXp the r7 doesn’t sit like a sport touring. As I said it’s dressed up as a super sport and sits / handles as such. But as far as the engine goes it’s basically a sport touring.
I can see that. The engine character does make a lot of sense for a sports tourer. Yamaha does make a sports tourer with that engine and sell it in Europe, it's called Tracer 7.
Depends on what kind of riding you expect to do. Gsxr is overall a great bike, it's an inline 4 so you would enjoy the power delivery and exhaust note among a host of other things. The R7 could be more nimble, but for high speed pulls, it may fall short compared to a 600
Thanks for sharing your experience. I have not had that experience riding it on the streets, though I can understand that different riding styles, experience and surroundings would play a role in how a rider percieves 'enough' torque.
@@RiderXp OH wow I wasn't expecting that! so you actually think the zx6r would be better for long rides and would cause less fatigue and back/wrist pain than the r7?
Relative to the R7, yes. I have ridden my zx6r about 200 miles in a few hrs & didn’t feel fatigued. Having said that, it will obviously not be as comfortable as a sports tourer like a Ninja650 or a CBR650F.
@@RiderXp okay thanks mate! I'm looking for a bike that I can take on track days and have fun around twisties but also will be spending maybe 50 mins each way on the highway a few days a week so wanted something that's also comfortable enough for that, was leaning towards the r7 because I thought that ZX6R was way more aggressive, thanks for the information I couldn't find a comparison anywhere!
@@vHiqhlight You bet! I think ZX6R would definitely be a better choice for your specific need. I’m told that the GsxR600 is also pretty good in that area but haven’t ridden it so can’t say for sure. I love the Yamaha R7 but to me it’s an amazing trainer trackbike not such a good street bike.
Im contemplating if I wanna get the zx6r now or the r7 still as a beginner bike i like the r7 but the only thing holding me back is that r7 with a different exhaust sounds like a naked bike amped up or the mto7 basically im getting more on the zx6r side cause its still sporty, and sounds sporty as it looks too! Compared to the r7 it sounds like a cruiser lol i wanna make sure i like my first bike too so the contemplating is hard lol hahahhaha
IMHO, zx6r isn’t the best first bike. I know inline 4 engine noises can never be matched by Parallel Twins but 130hp is way too much to start with. The only inline 4 I can think of that maybe (and that’s a big maybe) acceptable for a new rider, is the Honda engine in the cbr650r. at 95+hp, It’s a bit much, but for American highways, I get it, one does need some power. I hope you have ridden dirt bikes or something.
@@RiderXp hahaha never ever in my life and only like 50cc atv for like 2 months until i couldnt ride it like that no more (when i was younger) i know have wrist control and knowing not to act a fool i just want a good nice fast but not 1000cc fast bike rn to be able to still be happy on a supersport but not so super yet if yk what imean then when im comfortable enough and have riding experience then my next bike i wanna get is my dream bike like r1
Try test riding an MT07 or an R7 and see if you like the engine character. If you can keep your throttle in check, keep the zx6r under 7k rpms, you might be able to pull that off too. Be careful though. It’s hard to avoid the temptation when you know you got access to more power than you’re using.
@@RiderXp see what does does it mean when ppl like yourself also say stuff like that like keep it under this many RPMS etc. Is it like if im in like 1 and second gear all day itll damage the engine? Or ? Im just tryna understand more about bike information in general thats all hahahahah 🤙🏾
@@bruddamanlo9036 You can go through all the gears, keeping it under a 7k RPM. That would mean that you only get half or less power, delivered in a more manageable way. Inline 4 engines are typically peaky which means that in higher rev range(e.g. 10k+ RPMsin the case of zx6r), the engine starts to deliver a lot more power a lot more quickly. Look up a zx6r power delivery curve chart on google and you’ll probably get what people are talking about. RPM’s is basically how fast the engine spins. And no, you won’t damage the engine if you keep it under 7k rpms. Don’t have to keep it in low gears, just dont rev high in higher gear.
Well, I see what you're saying. My emotion about the R6 is that it's a legend that can never be replaced. R9 is coming, though it would be a different beast and I am looking forward to it. Can not divulge more. Stay tuned for more... :)
I wish i had the influce that what i thought mattered to Kawasaki.. but right now, the void Yamaha has left might benefit the ZX6R and Kawasaki might continue producing them if they can keep getting sales. ZX is cheaper than Aprilia RS660, very close to CBR650R, and not very far away from the R7.. it's only a matter of time before people realize that and the ZX6R sales actually pick up... only time will tell i guess.
better compare with r7 (2 cylinder ) VS Ninja 650 ( 2 cylinder )..my opinion..because your compare 2 cylinder with 4 cylinder common sense is 4 cylinder more better. This just my opinion..not to fight or condemn..
Ever wondered how many CCs should you first motorcycle have? Watch: th-cam.com/video/S4hOzGn1neY/w-d-xo.html
💯% agreed. 636 any day for me. I really think they made the R7 to compete with the 650, just cost a bit more.
R7 is a Fugazi
I agree it’s the r7vs650
It’s not just a case of *”This is an unfair comparison”…*
I want to go from an R7 to an ZX6R, so this helps see which direction I’m going
The ZX6R is definitely an upgrade over the R7 and a good one at that if you want to buy new.
@@RiderXp I actually heard the R7 was lousy on the track.
I owned the yzf r3, Ninja 400, and now zx6r. I would take the zx6r everyday over anything
And it
will be a decent track bike especially when a few years go by and you can get one used for half the price.
agreed, it'll be a great bike for people coming from a 300 and are mostly going to ride around town... we're yet to see how it does in twins cup. If a few of them do well, that'll make the pitch even better
I agree let's see what happens in the future but I think it will do pretty good.
agree with this.
Cheers!
Zx6r is the only option
100% agree
I have driven both R7 and ZX-6R.... ended up with the ZX-6R, because it does everything better for me.
I own the 2020 ZX6R and absolutely love it.

That's a fair point!
@@RiderXp That was also my thought
I drive a ZX-6R in an Asian city... perhaps I am a 50 year old mad man, but for me the ZX-6R is as comfortable in the city as my Ninja 400... For me the R7 just felt cheap and nasty... not an improvement on the Ninja 400, hence that's why I got the 2022 ZX-6R.
Also the R7 felt nowhere as nice as the Yamaha R1 either... totally different leaugue in quality, despite being from same manufacturer.
@@thainaaier interesting and seemingly without bias. Well appreciated comment on my part.
The R7 is a really nice new bike, and if they were actually available now I would buy it, but I don't consider it a super sport.
It sure is a great second bike or if someone has had too much of an inline four supersport and wants to scale back down, this would be a great option.

@@bebeKoRider That's a good, sensible decision... more power to you.
Just start out on a ZX6R. If you’re mature, responsible and respect the machine you will be fucking fine.

Agreed, they're not... points I'm making in the video are slightly different though. Plus, unless one's racing, the class wouldn't make much of a difference.
They aren't, I just hope they keep making the ZX6R and not the 700R
Bringing the R6 back next year speaks for itself. R7 is Basically the MT with sport fairings 🤷♂️
Infact, I'm actually considering the xsr for my street bike since the zx6r is fully track set up now
New gen zx6r’s makes tons of low end torque now. It’s configured for the street.
To reverse your argument the only thing going for an MT07 is its ergonomics and the engine (engine is completely debatable since the 636 engine is a masterpiece)
The 636 has a far superior chassis, suspension setup, brake setup, twice the power and acceleration.
Did you not much go to the track with the 636? I cant even fathom how you could downgrade to a MT07 chassis if you have experienced a 600 on track.
Never had a Bike with Multiple Power Mode's before. All the Bike's I've Owned to this Point have had this thing called a Throttle..
@No_Name oh..., CBR650 also 4inline...
@@simonrobert9858 true
@No_Name understood and agree to a point as the older super sports actually had a more street friendly positioning at their inception. i can be corrected if I'm wrong
R7 is a sheep in wolfs clothing.
Its pretending to be the real thing in an age where people pay more attention to superficial things like appearance instead of performance.
How Yamaha can charge 10k € for a faired MT07 is beyond me.
Still debating between These two, leaning more towards the ZX6R even though I
love Yamaha.
@@RiderXp Thanks for the advice.🤙🏼
I can’t wait for the new one. I’m hoping the qs is transferable.
Super thanks for the info. Its been months thinking about this two bikes
You’re welcome!
Great video!! ZX6R 4 Life lol but I absolutely love how slick the R7 looks
Thanks man!
The thing for me is that the ZX6R has 130 hp and for beginner riders that want a supersport feeling, the R7 is more attractive
Great review 👍
It's the first proper zx6r comparison I've heard to be fair.
@@RiderXp absolutely! great video! Subscribed!
Need to do a side by side comparison and overview. But was actually looking at zx10r. But the two it's a close call.
I literally just made this same decision last week, ended up with the zx6r.
That's Awesome! Congrats! You're gonna love it.
I like the lines of the bike, but I can’t stand that middle headlight. It just ruins it for me.

Everyone was waiting for this video.
Zx6r all the way
I'm glad you enjoyed it... cheers!
I own the 21 zx6r and a buddy owns the R7. 636 wins everytime.
(yes the R6 is being discontinued since the supersport market is freefalling, especially in Europe)
The only bike that could be compared to the R7 right now is the Aprillia 660 RS.
This was an excellent comparison video. I'm not aware of another one for ZX6R vs R7 that is anywhere near this good. I'm in FL too. Hi neighbor!
Hey neighbor! Thanks for the kind words. :)
Cheers!
I don't understand why the comparison done here was not in between the Ninja 650 and the R7 I think that's the right choice to compare
That comparison has been done in another video (link: th-cam.com/video/v_jC9vazeew/w-d-xo.html )This one is just my individual take on both bikes being so close in price and Yamaha calling the R7 a supersport.
R7 makes only 10 hp than my CRF450, that confuses me a little because 70 hp is not enough to be considered a mid displacement sports bike
I just bought a 2016 ABS model with 1109 miles on it for $8,110!
Damn! that’s a good deal! Ride safe, have fun 👍🏼

Why in the world would you compare a parallel twin to a inline four that doesn’t even make sense 🥱
Why would anyone compare the R7 to a 600? 🤦🏻♂️ It's a completely different bike and riding experience.
I mean he literally explained that at the beginning of the video 😂 why don’t you go back and actually listen to what he says instead of asking everyone else to explain it to you.

@@RiderXp from wich year thank you
It's the same bike since they changed it from CBR650F to CBR650R in 2019. So anything after 19.
Bought a ninja 300 a month ago and the zx6r is gonna be my next bike for sure. Was looking at the R7 too but my mind is made up lol
That's awesome 👍
*:-Yamaha R7 is just Sport bike similar to Ninja 650 & it's definitely not a Super* (except price)
*:-Ninja ZX6R is out of league for R7* 😌
*No offense, but I guess not having HyperSport in Yamaha's Lineup is affecting their naming sense* 🤭
Great video, I really really want a Zx-6R. I'll keep cruising on my Ninja 400 for now haha.
Now the bike is completely track set-up, no ABS, Brembo master cylinder, steel braided lines.. the works!
@@RiderXp So cool! By the way, in my opinion, that is the best color combo of the ZX-6R, so sick looking!
Thank you. When I got the race fairings, i got those painted to match the stock Grey. That’s what it looks like now: instagram.com/p/CYEWU1ePKWv/?igshid=YmMyMTA2M2Y=

If only this is equipped with quick shifter and auto blip, I will buy it in a heartbeat.
Which one... neither have an auto-blip even as an option.
@@RiderXp either 6R or R7 if equipped with auto blip, I'm gonna buy it.
Frankly autoblip sucks.
do a R7 vs zx6r 2024
Thinking about doing a track comparison… stay tuned!
@@RiderXp I’ll be waiting. Because I’m planning to upgrade my zx25r to zx6r 2024
No, it is not a fair comparison. Not even close. R7 is an MT07. Just because it looks like a supersport doesn't make it a supersport. The R7 is a bike that doesn't make sense.
Yamaha did it to themselves calling it a supersport. Someone had to call them out.
2018 zx6r never gonna get rid of it it claps
I'm in nyc r7 all day
Of course it's an unfair comparison. The R7 is a twin and the ZX6R is an inline 4...
Someone had to do it. Yamaha chose to discontinue the R6 and call the R7 a 'supersport'. They did it to themselves.
@@RiderXp Yes sir.. I like those as well. Much more practical indeed and also more budget friendly.. Thank you 🙏
You might find this one useful. Slightly bigger bikes, but if you can ride sensibly, these are some fun bikes I had the opportunity to test ride:
th-cam.com/video/V5mjHNuXICk/w-d-xo.html
Im only 15 and am wanting to get a bike at some point in the future, im more then likely gonna start on a ninja 400 but maybe after that id consider getting a zx6r but that is a very big jump so idk.
You’re right, the ZX6R may be too much for a first bike. Please watch this video i made showing bikes with different engines sizes: th-cam.com/video/S4hOzGn1neY/w-d-xo.html
Are they going to keep making the ZX6R for 2022?
Seems unlikely given where the trend is heading, though I really hope I'm wrong
@@RiderXp sucks because I feel like the ZX6R is better than the 700R
They just released the new 2022 ZX6R
@@AyooHaikuu That's right. I'm so glad I was wrong about that 😀
why would you compare a twin to an inline 4?
It's not even close, the zx6r has real race frame and geometry. Thats before you even consider motor
That's my whole point! The value prop of the R7 fades in comparison of the zx6r which can actually be bought cheaper used in a reasonable condition.
Zx6r, no question
I currently ride the 2017 ninja 1000 sports tourer…I don’t have any experience with super bike 600 class. I’m just curious how someone would describe the torque of the 636?
I ride my 2019 ZX6R at the track only now. That bike isn't about torque in my experience but more about power, especially at the top. The Ninja1000 is a great bike for the purpose it's built.
What kind of comparison is this? One is a sport touring with fairings to make it look like a sport touring. The other is a race bike.
Can you give me advice, Which better R7 or suzuki gsxr 600?
Depends on what kind of riding you expect to do. Gsxr is overall a great bike, it's an inline 4 so you would enjoy the power delivery and exhaust note among a host of other things. The R7 could be more nimble, but for high speed pulls, it may fall short compared to a 600
I owned zx6r - the power is not linear - the motorcycle didnt have enough torque for street
Thanks for sharing your experience. I have not had that experience riding it on the streets, though I can understand that different riding styles, experience and surroundings would play a role in how a rider percieves 'enough' torque.
Sounds like you dont know how to ride the power band.
I'll never own a two cylinder again.
R7 is not comparable to 636. It’s competitor is the ninja 650.

R7 is probably more comparable to the 650 not the 636
True.
Do you use rev match when downshifting?
yup
is the zx6rs seating position more aggressive than the r7 or are they pretty similar?
Surprisingly, I found the zx6r seating position to be less aggressive than the R7.

Cool, it doesn't have to make sense to everyone. It's my opinion.
You can’t compare the 636 to the R7. 50bhp difference!!
and barely a $1,000 difference. That’s kinda the point
@@RiderXp ha! I didn’t watch he video. Watching now. ✌️
You can't compare these bikes zx6r is way above r7 level
Actually that’s the point of the video, for a little more money, one could get a inline 4 supersport as opposed to a twin
Is that jenningsgp in the video?
Yup! I've a couple videos up at the track too.
Zx6r all the way
Hell yeah!

@@RiderXp nice.... You think it will continue on till 2022?
I wish i had the influce that what i thought mattered to Kawasaki.. but right now, the void Yamaha has left might benefit the ZX6R and Kawasaki might continue producing them if they can keep getting sales. ZX is cheaper than Aprilia RS660, very close to CBR650R, and not very far away from the R7.. it's only a matter of time before people realize that and the ZX6R sales actually pick up... only time will tell i guess.
