Outrageous Claims To Cure The 'Common Cold' | Shark Tank AUS

  • Nicole and Steve have come into the Tank to sell us on the world-wide distribution agreement they have for a product, that they say, cures a common cold within 48 hours. With a background in real estate and business, they’re here to ask the Sharks for a $1.5 million investment in exchange for 20% of their business. That values their business at a whopping 7.5 million dollars! Although the natural product has been clinically tested and TGA approved, they are currently pre-revenue, yet have a 3-year projection of 90 million in revenue. With no sales as yet under their belt, can they convince a Shark to part with that much cash?
    An international sensation, Shark Tank AUS features entrepreneurs pitching for investment in the Tank from our Sharks, five venture capitalists willing to invest their own money in exchange for equity.

    When he said it "boosts your immune system to new levels" that pretty much proved that he had no idea that most of the symptoms of the common cold are the actual immune response. Mucous and fever and sneezing is your body fighting the virus, and most cold and flu meds are actually attempting to suppress those responses. Boosting the immune response "to new levels" would be absolutely miserable.

    • @LordofFullmetal
      @LordofFullmetal 2 ปีที่แล้ว +70

      Came here looking for this comment. He literally just proved he has no idea what he's talking about. If it genuinely boosted the immune response you'd be seeing MORE intense symptoms - because that is literally what the symptoms are. Most cold medicine works by suppressing that immune response; not boosting it. That's why the symptoms go away.

    • @777Skeptic
      @777Skeptic 2 ปีที่แล้ว +21

      Medical products that can't do what their product claims it can do, use the vague "boosts your immune system" verbiage to avoid legal problems.

    • @welhynole4082
      @welhynole4082 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      This is not true hahaha. Boosting the immune system as in strengthening. The stronger the immune system the quicker good cells kill bad cells, and quicker the body detoxes toxins. Garlic for instant strengthens the immune system and kills bacteria and viruses it is anti bacterial and anti viral

      Not saying the product is not absolute bs, but your interpretation of his statement is an assumption. He did not imply that it does supress any responses of the immune system and just said boost the immune system. This could very likely also mean that it makes those body reactions of the immune system more frequent or efficient somehow instead of supressing them.

    I'm glad there was an investor who understood the science behind the cold and asked about how this "medicine" works. These entrepreneurs seem clueless. By listening to a few of the ingredients list they're just natural antiinflammatories etc. So like how I have ginger tea when I have a cold, but in tablet format and I need to pay a lot of money for it. Correlation that it helped cure symptoms does not equal causation that it cures the viral infection itself.

      Big pharma tend to produce medication that works with many side effects and massive price tags. They pump medication out based on profit and minimizing costs which ends up harming more than it cures. Xanax, valium, percocet etc. All of these have probably killed as many as they've saved. Plus they sell supplements that do nothing at all but they can get away with it by paying people to create doctored trials, but due to their close ties to the government and private healthcare sector, nobody can touch them no matter what bad practices they put in place. Big pharma isn't exactly reputable, they're just too big to stop and they make too many powerful people money.

If you have a decent business model and a product, all you need to do is offer them a fair deal and they'll be on board. For investors it's all about risk/reward, and if you're pitching your business to them you need to step in their shoes and understand that they won't invest in something unless they think the risk is worth it. Just don't be greedy and give them an amazing deal, and they would likely throw you a bone too.

    • @Zzyzzyzzs
      @Zzyzzyzzs 4 ปีที่แล้ว +11

      Needing an investment to catapult your business to the next level is not the same as needing people's money to bail you out of your own poor judgments. If you're a good business proposition, you would already have security in the form of assets, reserves, income and your own money that you're prepared to invest. That makes you a safer bet to invest in. THAT's the point of the show, and they make that point over and over again. So many people come in, already in debt or about to run out of money, and hope to lure the investors in with promises of gigantic returns so they use their money to bail out the loss and prop up the whole business, in return for a tiny share. What's most astonishing is how many people think that's going to work, on people whose entire point is being able to spot bad deals. Treating your investors as cash cows, whether for $100 or $1M, is the wrong attitude. And when your promises are based on products that are practically fraudulent like this one, it really should be criminal.
