I´m totally with you on that "pay on demand" trend that manufacturers are trying to implement nowadays. I live in Finland and agree that the VW group matrix LED lighting system is very good in the winter, but up here it´s practically dark 9 months out of 12, so i would of course buy the car with full functionality. I doubt you save any money in the long run by subscribing for functions like that. It will brobably cost you more in the end then simply buy the function upfront with the car.
I get it but we're heading towards a "car as a service", I think ownership will be only for very special cars (sport etc). For example: I'm leasing a car for 3 years. I’m waiting to test drive this, but if it doesn’t have that vault feel, and is quiet, I’m going to get a used Q8 etron instead. That thing has the best reviewed ride comfort basically of any car right now.
I can only think of two reasons: 1. Design. Someone somewhere thought it looked "progressive", so they implemented it (BMW). Then, because of trends, everyone is now following. 2. Headlight height. Cars, EVs especially, tend to get higher and higher. People in older, smaller, lower cars were starting to complain about getting blinded by all those highly mounted headlights. Therefore a solution had to be made and this split-headlight-design was made up to position the (not too bright) DRL in their usual spots while the bright low- and high beam is situated lower. Doesn't Look great imo. Although personally I think Audi does pull it off better than BMW
They stole it from the Hyundai Kona. Looks disgusting. Hard pass on new Audi's if they keep this up. Audi used to be top of the class when it came to sexy headlights. Now looks like shit and the interior went to hell.
Citroen has been doing it since 2014 😂 typical for german car manufacturers, wait for someone less known to do something new, wait a couple of years to "reinvent" it and sell it as a groundbreaking feature 😂 just like Apple does with electronics
Between the capacitive buttons and overuse of screens, AND the subscriptions; This new generation of Audi EVs is a hard pass for me. Great review regardless!
@Jeroenneman i hate the square elements in the headlight, looks very ugly like the Mitsubishi taillights from 2008 if you remember them. I hate the light bar in the rear. It should be exclusive for a8 a7 q7 q8. If people dont have money they get split taillights and that's it the same with the fake leather dashboard or the even worse plastic dashboard with stitches 😂😂. Bringing premium features to lower end cars and making them as if ordered from aliexpress is just an abomination
@@zarzaf6414 A rear lightbar should be a premium feature? 🤣 Translation: I'm a douche and I want everyone to see from far away I'm driving the most expensive Audi model.

Man I am already DISGUSTED by the screens in the first 2 seconds.. just feels so cheap. No felt covering but VW does? Touch capacitive buttons and here I thought real buttons were staying, climate control is in the screens. I had faith in Audi.
agree. no idea why evey automaker decided that we are IT programmers who want to feel the same way in the car like they feel at their workplace or at home with 3 huge screens shouting at them.

Thanks Thomas. Cannot see the electric charging port covers lasting due to durability issues or a keen driver not wanting to wait and / or forgetting the electric operation.
And I'll go for model Y from Tesla. 20k cheaper and better performance. Interior quality = same. I believe Audi will have tire noise better but not 20k better(and towing hook will come included).
@@RH-jj7ck Compared to Porsche, Tesla’s build quality is like something made by Fisher-Price Enjoy your dated and boring looking bloated daffy duck Model Y 😆
Smokers Pack is very retro with a useful ashtray for loose change. I wish Audi would sort out the MMI failings in its current range rather than pouring money into larger screens for future models. Another good review, thank you.
The capacitative touch panels in the door and steering wheel are awful, the passenger display isn’t integrated with the design of the dash at all, the wireless charging pad is the worst solution in any car, the cupholder cover is the cheapest sounding piece of trim in any car, there’s hard plastic in the rear on the doors AND they are still using that awful rear cupholder solution where your elbow rests inside the cupholder. I would rather have the new Scenic EV, Skoda Enyaq or just the new Duster which costs a third of what this is going to be and is a very decent non-EV car.
Another excellent review, Thomas. 7:58 For heaven's sake, enough with the non-button buttons, 10:21 integrated HVAC controls, piano black, black logos, black badges...what's the point of brand badges that can't be seen?
It will be interesting to see how this fits in the Australian market. I’m an Audi Q5 driver & would consider changing to an EV but range & quality are huge factors here. Interior design & quality is very different to my leather clad Q5 & the display is a bit distracting. If I am tempted to go down the EV route, it would need to impress when I see it in the flesh.
Just to add to this regarding range, I have just completed a trip from home just north of Sydney to Queensland Gold Coast. I filled the car with fuel & it indicated a range of 910 km. Made the trip without refueling & it indicated 270 km range left on arrival. When an EV can give me that, I will be a happy man.
The interior is such a letdown. Glossy black, touch buttons, and a general un-classy atmosphere. The boot is tiny. Current Audi owner here. It would seem my next Audi is going to be Model Y.

On the outside, the car looks kinda okay. But the inside is another story - Looks soo cheap! Having a material mix on the seats - 50% leather 50% fabric is screaming "COST CUTTING, SAVING MONEY". I don't understand why VW group is doing so many cloth / fabric pannels and seats with this old fashioned texture. Damn... Looks like my Grandma picked the fabrics for this car :D
when I was a kid I was always looking at even an Audi A6 telling myself that "one day... you will be mine", now when I could actually buy any Audi I'm not even considering them... it's a shame what they do. Not even surprised that all they normal designers and engineers left to other car makers
Just see the comments. There are not so much "Wow" about this car, but most critism for both interior, exterior and the price. Audi has failed again. Thank you Thomas for always been so neutral and honest!
Fantastic car, and excellent review! I leased a 2021 e-tron , and now I own a 2022 Q4 e-tron. The 2025 Audi Q6 e-tron is setting new standards in the luxury electric SUV market. Positioned between the compact Q4 e-tron and the larger Q8 e-tron, the Q6 e-tron is the most harmonious and satisfying electric SUV driven so far. Technologically, the Q6 e-tron is equipped with advanced features like a dual-400V 800V battery pack that supports rapid charging-reaching 80% charge in just 30 minutes. This setup not only enhances efficiency but also reduces the overall size and weight of necessary components. The Audi Q6 e-tron represents a significant step forward for Audi in the electric vehicle market, showcasing their commitment to luxury and performance in an environmentally friendly package. I spoke with the local Audi dealership in the United States, and they have informed me that they will begin accepting orders in September, with a guaranteed delivery by December.
Thank you Thomas (and team). I saw this on Autocar this morning and knew you'd have a video first look of the vehicle. I love your videos, not shy on giving your own opinion on negatives, but you're not bullish with it. If I'm buying a vehicle I come here to look to see if you've reviewed it first. Keep doing what your doing.
Sadly Audi is still behind or moves in the wrong direction. This car or platform is huge for their company but they're still too slow with their EV line-up. This car should've been rolled out at least in summer 2022. There is still no A6 e-tron on the horizon or Avant and the interior design is nothing new. It looks like an 2017 Audi from the inside. Some may find it got, some not. Their capacity buttons is also a step in the wrong direction
Exactly I thought Audi was a bigger EV rebellion but they’re slow In just 2 years (I believe) BMW from the sudden lunched the i7 later iX1 and iX2 and now the i5 sedan and a touring model as well And the interior… almost hard touch at the doors? And no felt? With this price? Joke
Right!!! I was raging about the same, audi needs new stuff not the same repeated over and over again. And even worse bringing luxury features to lower end cars is a crime discrediting the features themselves f.e. the leather dashboard exclusive for a8 a7 a6 now in every cheap car fake leathered dashboard or even worse in vw and cheap audis plastic with stitches....
I’m on my 3rd Audi, a 2020 A7, and I’m very saddened to see the direction the brand is taking. That screen and software set up looks horrendous, and the subscription model is disrespectful to loyal customers
Looking at the outside I was going to say that I prefer this to the Macan, but as soon as I saw the inside I realised this is a hard no for me, given all the capacitive BS, screens and cost cutting. Seems that Skoda is the way to go nowadays - who knew
I hate the one piece molded cluster of "buttons", ridicilous... Also, high gloss shiny piano black everywhere. Audi, get your sh*t together. Thank goodnes, at least you brought back the manual volume knob!
Uber awesome BEV! I own a 2023 Audi Q4 eTron which I like a lot. They fixed the Q4 shortcomings, refined the exterior, and dramatically improved the interior design, fit and finish. Audi should offer Q4 owners a loyalty credit to upgrade to offset Q4 excess depreciation. Kudos to Audi for a great job!
Always been an Audi fan but looking at them following the same trend of that stupid capacitive button is disheartening. If I'm going to pay a premium price I want it to feel premium also.
I agree that the proportion are better, but for some reason it gains no extra room inside?🤷♂️ rear legroom seams worse than the q4 especially the middle sea… a bit strange🤷♂️
This looks really good. I wish they had kept the interior a little bit more analogue, but in terms of overall presentation, I really like what I see. Love the dark blue color!
As always, Thomas, a big fan of such detailed reviews. @15:07 was there a difference in this car vs the SQ6 you reviewed as far as the leg room is concerned ? In SQ6 the rear leg room has become even smaller ?
Not sure if the seats were the very same? Also when you really drive the car you pay more attention to set the seat to a proper driving position. It is clear that the legroom is not that plentyful though
Thomas, I really enjoy your videos for so many years now. I know you were questioning the need for the passenger display. That was the one option my wife requested on the Porsche Taycan we got in 2020. I do think it is a justifiable option. The center screens are for the driver along with the ones in front of the steering wheel. Having the passenger display allows the passenger to investigate dining options or charging options or change media without disturbing the drivers focus. Then when a destinations added to the route plan, it is pushed to the center console map display. It also allows for the use of a keyboard, while the car is in motion. This of course is blocked on the center display.
Great review as always, Thomas. I love the front and rear lights but imagine they would cost a fortune to replace if damaged in a crash. I wish that Audi would offer more hybrid vehicles instead of mainly EV's or ICE.
Dash board is the worst desing detail for me. Those screens are not very well arranged..i think. Every time i heard "animal free seats" i think :"Need the leather seats with contrasting stiching" 😅
I like the interior and the front digital dashboard is among the best in the business: software and hardware not to mention Audi is the king of the light game.
Horrible interior design, yikes. Looks like a slightly higher end VW interior. Considering VW offers one of the most boring interiors in the mainstream market, that is not a good sign.

I would be genuinely curious to hear why every car manufacturer started doing those split headlight designs seemingly overnight.
I can only think of two reasons:
Because chinese customers love it
They stole it from the Hyundai Kona.
@@JeroennemanTotally agreed... what a shame
Between the capacitive buttons and overuse of screens, AND the subscriptions; This new generation of Audi EVs is a hard pass for me. Great review regardless!
thanks! keep tuning in !
The first 2 things you mentioned are good in my opinion.
Audi's light game is just unmatched, has been for years .👌
Not since they took these hideous split headlights. Looks like a slightly more premium Hyundai Kona ffs.
@@Jeroennemanlol.what you talking about bro 😂😂
@@AmazeTase Reading comprehension ain't your strong suit?
@@zarzaf6414 A rear lightbar should be a premium feature? 🤣 Translation: I'm a douche and I want everyone to see from far away I'm driving the most expensive Audi model.
For hardware features I don't mind have to pay to enable them, but it should be a one off payment instead of a subscription. The only subscription I think would make sense for customers in a car is software for navigation/charging/autonomous driving which benefits from ongoing updates.
Agreed
Man I am already DISGUSTED by the screens in the first 2 seconds.. just feels so cheap. No felt covering but VW does? Touch capacitive buttons and here I thought real buttons were staying, climate control is in the screens. I had faith in Audi.
agree. no idea why evey automaker decided that we are IT programmers who want to feel the same way in the car like they feel at their workplace or at home with 3 huge screens shouting at them.
@@ZmogusJaponija Even if you sre a programmer, the last thing you wanna do is look at fucking screens again after working for 8 hours looking at fucking screens
Big no from me, I have the Q4 and I'm never getting another Audi again.
They are VERY keen for you to crash test the car and see its safety features, so they’ve made it for you to take your eyes off the road or lose concentration constantly.
The buttons just look like they’re touch but if you click them it has normal feedback. Same as Q4
I am an Audi costumer. If they have the intention to force me to pay monthly payments for options in my possible next Audi, I am done with them.
no one is forcing you to. Its just an option
Oh wow, I never expected Audi to make a Citroen
🤣
This is one of your best reviews…your approach to the features and the “betrayed” part was great
Highly appreciated!
What is up with Audi using hard plastics on their cars?
Thanks Thomas. Cannot see the electric charging port covers lasting due to durability issues or a keen driver not wanting to wait and / or forgetting the electric operation.
Best of the best car review on TH-cam 💯
Cheers! Please recommend!
Audi’s design never let us down 👍🏻
Will rather go for Porsche Macan EV as the price difference is not that much!
And I'll go for model Y from Tesla. 20k cheaper and better performance. Interior quality = same. I believe Audi will have tire noise better but not 20k better(and towing hook will come included).
@@RH-jj7ck
Compared to Porsche, Tesla’s build quality is like something made by Fisher-Price
Enjoy your dated and boring looking bloated daffy duck Model Y 😆
@@RH-jj7ck same quality? lol
Smokers Pack is very retro with a useful ashtray for loose change. I wish Audi would sort out the MMI failings in its current range rather than pouring money into larger screens for future models. Another good review, thank you.
MMI issues are so true…it’s a race to get the new tech without going through a robust testing and commisioning period
👍
Hmmm.. I’m disappointed about the exterior design.
The split headlights just don’t suit the car.
In the interior, I think it’s a bit too much screen.
Agree the q8 looks way better 🤷♂️
Audi tried to lease the LED Matrix possibility here in Norway - it was not received well. Not a good idea.
When you knelt down at 0:38 seconds either your microphone or your knee is clicking lol 😂. Both my knees click when I get up these days haha.
I actually quite like this. Good to see a tech/interior refresh too. Looking forward to the new A6 next.
Interior is nothing fresh
Keep fighting against subscription services .
its just optional, you can purchase extras at beginning, or purchase lifetime option 1-time for something which you did not paid before at all
@@Ku5iIt's just optional until it isn't. Introduce optional subscription services only to change them slowly over the years so customers get used to it, then implement your goal of continuous subscriptions for extra income beyond the vehicle sale.
A win for Corporations/shareholders, bad for consumers
The German three are definitely going broke, if this is the type of cost-cutting they're employing.
nah, all these manufacturers can gtfo with those subscription "services". You pay for the car? then you shall own it!
i have to agree
In the future you will own nothing and be happy
On the outside, the car looks kinda okay. But the inside is another story - Looks soo cheap! Having a material mix on the seats - 50% leather 50% fabric is screaming "COST CUTTING, SAVING MONEY". I don't understand why VW group is doing so many cloth / fabric pannels and seats with this old fashioned texture. Damn... Looks like my Grandma picked the fabrics for this car :D
The first Audi model for years that I really like (design wise).
when I was a kid I was always looking at even an Audi A6 telling myself that "one day... you will be mine", now when I could actually buy any Audi I'm not even considering them... it's a shame what they do. Not even surprised that all they normal designers and engineers left to other car makers
The Audi A6 Etron looks cool as hell, might be worth checking that one out.
2D audi logo on the steering wheel for aerodinamic purposes is kinda cool, well done Audi!
yikes... they cost cut the heck out of that interior all over
Just see the comments. There are not so much "Wow" about this car, but most critism for both interior, exterior and the price. Audi has failed again. Thank you Thomas for always been so neutral and honest!
Thanks 🙏
Looks nice, but the press car should have been in a lighter color so you can see the details.
75k car and hard plastic on doors? thanks, I’ll pass.
Expensive car, so they have to save on something!
😂
At least is better than iX2m that cost 65k and looks horrendous 😅
All car makers are cost cutting wake up
@@sun-pb7xgYeah but some are better than the others apparently
Hard plastic doors for a 86000 euros car is taking customers for milking cow
I'm sure you can get a subscription for soft touch materials.
14:34-14:43 Respect
The old q8 etron looks way better

Exactly
I thought Audi was a bigger EV rebellion but they’re slow
In just 2 years (I believe) BMW from the sudden lunched the i7 later iX1 and iX2 and now the i5 sedan and a touring model as well
And the interior… almost hard touch at the doors?
And no felt? With this price?
Joke
Right!!! I was raging about the same, audi needs new stuff not the same repeated over and over again. And even worse bringing luxury features to lower end cars is a crime discrediting the features themselves f.e. the leather dashboard exclusive for a8 a7 a6 now in every cheap car fake leathered dashboard or even worse in vw and cheap audis plastic with stitches....
Now the best reviewer on TH-cam!
Thanks my friend! Feel free to share and recommend!
I’m on my 3rd Audi, a 2020 A7, and I’m very saddened to see the direction the brand is taking. That screen and software set up looks horrendous, and the subscription model is disrespectful to loyal customers
0:35 you can hear his knee cracking 😂
Not having felt lined door pockets is a dealbreaker for me.
15:39 Macan! 😊
Looking at the outside I was going to say that I prefer this to the Macan, but as soon as I saw the inside I realised this is a hard no for me, given all the capacitive BS, screens and cost cutting.
Seems that Skoda is the way to go nowadays - who knew
the clicky capacitive buttons are maybe slightly better but it still looks so cheap, nothing futuristic or premium about
I hate the one piece molded cluster of "buttons", ridicilous... Also, high gloss shiny piano black everywhere. Audi, get your sh*t together. Thank goodnes, at least you brought back the manual volume knob!
Thomas is really calling out on the cheap buttons. They all can't be Bentley's, man! 🤣
The irony of an Audi warning if something gets too close to it…2:39
Uber awesome BEV!
Wow they really cheaped out on the interior..
@autogefuehl Impressive car! One question tho…why not have the digital wing mirrors or is that an option?
Thanks 🙏 they didn’t prove to be useful
I hope technology advances sufficiently one day, so Audi won't have to use capacitive bullshit buttons and glossy black plastic
Always been an Audi fan but looking at them following the same trend of that stupid capacitive button is disheartening. If I'm going to pay a premium price I want it to feel premium also.
The car costs 90.000 Euros and has hard pack materials on the rear doors ? 😳
much better proportioned than the Q4, nice job
The design already looks dated imho.
This of course is blocked on the center display.
thanks for the feedback! I always thought the passenger does that on the smartphone anyway. But that would run via carplay then
Thomas in a plasma blue suit...
😂😂😂😅😅😅
Great review as always, Thomas. I love the front and rear lights but imagine they would cost a fortune to replace if damaged in a crash. I wish that Audi would offer more hybrid vehicles instead of mainly EV's or ICE.
Thanks 🙏
Dash board is the worst desing detail for me. Those screens are not very well arranged..i think. Every time i heard "animal free seats" i think :"Need the leather seats with contrasting stiching" 😅
you can have leather seats with stitching also without animals, BMW shows it: th-cam.com/video/1pRNkW9nrrw/w-d-xo.html
Extremely important to me; is the neck support adjustable?
I like Audi, is the only german brand that still looks german and not chinese.
Ha ha ha actually it looks more Chinese a big deal. It’s just the badge at this point
A6 e-tron will be cheaper or within the same price range with this one?
I love Audi, but a Porsche is always an upgrade
I really like it, but I do agree about the gatekeeping of features based subscription.
Touch sensitive steering wheel buttons... 😢
I like the interior and the front digital dashboard is among the best in the business: software and hardware not to mention Audi is the king of the light game.
This interior already looks outdated. Audi has consistently dropped the ball
Excellent, good job😊
Cheers my friend !
Horrible interior design, yikes. Looks like a slightly higher end VW interior. Considering VW offers one of the most boring interiors in the mainstream market, that is not a good sign.
When you showed thw interior I literally went "woaaah". That's a beautiful new Audi interior. I love it! Hope it gets implemented on more new Audis.
That interior is so messy
Its sure not neat.
Dream car! Great Content as allways thomas!
thanks my friend !
I would rather the Porsche
I agree, charging a monthly fee for an hardware that’s already built in the car should be considered a fraud.
It's taken Audi a really long time to find out what comes after 5
One of the best EV on EU market .
