Cool to see stock versions of each truck go off-road. The overland version (with a tent on a rack) of the Rivian skewed things a bit for me. The lack of long-travel suspension, especially in the rear created bucking that was to be expected,. Both were noticeably nose-heavy vehicles. I thought that with the battery pack between the wheels and down low that they would be more well-balanced than they were. Airing down is very important. EVs are much heavier than my Tacoma but I thought they would have reduced the tire pressure more than they did for traction. All-terrain tires also leave something to be desired in sand and rock crawling, but again the vehicles were more or less stock. Decently capable for stock rigs. I'm interested in seeing them modified for true off-road performance.
You are going to cook those diffs. No need to lock the diffs unless your crawling or in really deep stuff. Maybe Tesla does some trickery to make it safer on the drivetrain.
it probably uses the brakes to keep the wheels without traction from spinning. the rivian cuts power to the motor on the spinning wheel. i dont know if either have actual lockers
@@eloc580the cybertruck has front and rear locking diff. A locking diff is a locking diff, whether it's on an electric or ICE vehicle. The rock crawling part would be using almost nothing at least, on a diesel you're using 95%+ just idling while the electric motors will only be using exactly what's required to take you up the hill, so if you're rock crawling with your buddies I wouldn't be surprised if the range on this is way longer than on a diesel.
This might be a silly question but, when you go off roading with an off road vehicle, is it common to have broken pieces or insane scratches/dents at the end? Or do these vehicles really come out of that flawless? (Also referring to jeeps and other off road vehicles)
Not normally, no. Driving over rocks like that you should always go as slow as possible so you can minimise potential damage (e.g. sliding off a rock, or clipping and dragging a rock). These guys were going way too fast IMHO. Also too much pressure in those tyres.

I swear I was witnessing the entire body of that truck flexing.. that's scary
MOAB is calling you!!!
Why do people capitalize Moab? It's a proper noun, not an acronym or an initialism.
I don’t know if I’ve seen a vehicle that’s gotten that as much attention as the cybertruck in my lifetime
So, you're two.
Oh boy if you think this vehicle has gotten a lot of attention, you should wait and see what they're going to show on August 8th. REMEMBER THIS COMMENT

You guys are likely 5 feet from each other and still using the radios! 😂😂😂
The rivian doesn't need locking diff because it has 1 motor per wheel, so to simulate a locked diff it just has to spin both motors at the same speed (in fact it has no diff at all)
@@eloc580The Tesla has a physical locking differentials. It was just enabled in the Spring update.
I'm very impressed with Both vehicles.Thank you.❤❤
You shouldnt be. Any devently running car made within 30 years with 9 inches of clearance can do what they did in this video.
lol @ the intro. The "Way.. too... FAST!" clip just prefaces the video like dude didn't know what he was doing. It comical and hilarious to me. Thanks for the laugh.
Curious for the of off road drag race? :Why would they state that the Rivian was quicker? Knowing the Cybertruck driver would not go over 40mph but told the R1T Driver to go for it ...( 50mph)?? Maybe a better way is to cap the speed for both trucks and see which one ajusts to the terrain better / faster? i.e. R1T rear end bouncing .... Other than that, great review!
I wonder if the CT cover would have been better secured rolled away for stuff like this.
Why didn’t you mention the effects of off-roading on its range and how to charge it in the middle of the desert.
How do you refuel in the middle of a desert? I'm not a fan of the cybertruck but your comment is just dumb.
@
Exactly. We all know u can’t recharge in the middle of the desert. My point was why reviewer didn’t mention this point in the entire review. That this is a huge drawback of buying any electric off-roader right now. That u can’t really charge it in the middle of a desert. Unless you carry a generator yourself or something. So I wanted to highlight the reviewer’s shortcoming.
crazy how cyber truck looks so good in the desert
How many time producer had spend to find a trail that this easy? Even fwd vauxhall astra can run this trail easily
Like at 4:46? Yeah not a chance buddy. You'd need high ground clearance and a locked rear diff at minimum.
Cybertruck might have the stiffness but the Rivian sure can throw it back. Also, I couldn't help but notice at 15:23 the panel gap has gotten just a bit wider, lol.
I can't tell which is goofier, the front end of the Rivian, or the whole of the CyBeRTRuK.
It’s a drive by wire system with a center console. I’m guessing it wouldn’t be too hard to retro fit into right hand drive.
Shame it's not remotely safe enough for the pedestrian safety standards of any civilised country then, isn't it?

Great video guys, finally some off road tests for Cybertruck, but my choice is Rivian R1T just love the looks and engineering behind it 😊❤❤
It is a girl truck. Charging is not efficient, truck bed is 1/2 size of Cybertruck.
Would like to watch it all but I cant deal with these being top gear hosts 😂
What happened with the tent on the Rivian?? Somehow it started the jump with the tent and landed without one :D
11:40 Holy crap, you've got some quick peepers there, bud! That's coming from a guy who was able to read the title of the little girl's book during the Men In Black range session lol
I wish they'd talk about the battery level after every test
The rock crawling part would be using almost nothing at least, on a diesel you're using 95%+ just idling while the electric motors will only be using exactly what's required to take you up the hill, so if you're rock crawling with your buddies I wouldn't be surprised if the range on this is way longer than on a diesel.
Why?
This needs to be higher up. The donut video is a great example

Did they wash the cybertruck in the sun?!?
This might be a silly question but, when you go off roading with an off road vehicle, is it common to have broken pieces or insane scratches/dents at the end? Or do these vehicles really come out of that flawless? (Also referring to jeeps and other off road vehicles)
Not normally, no. Driving over rocks like that you should always go as slow as possible so you can minimise potential damage (e.g. sliding off a rock, or clipping and dragging a rock).
These guys were going way too fast IMHO. Also too much pressure in those tyres.
Good! I can drive it on Massachusetts roads and hopefully it’s not going to break apart.
No water crossings?
there is like a million videos of teslas driving through water
@@JohnSmith-pn2vl a million? Wow.
Both are extremely capable. The Rivian has deeper wading depth than any other production vehicle. The CT doesn't have published figures, but lots have taken it through deep water.
@@TheBowerbird The Yangwang U8 can drive across a body of water, with no limit to depth.
@@GDM22 Things that float are often found to not suffer the limitations of depth of those that do. However the BYD U8 is a petrol car and not an EV like the Rivian and Cybertruck. At 3.6 tonnes it also requires a special commercial drivers license to take it on public roads in the EU and UK.
Phillip.
Well two different drivers can create driving bias… same driver should do this
Kind of an obvious thing that dug into the legitimacy of this video.
Yeah the guy with the beard seems to floor it when doing the rock crawl in the Rivian and also told the guy in the rivian to floor it from the start on the timed race. Seems rivian biased to me.
They should’ve redone the timed race for it to be legit.
But this wasn't a comparison, so it doesn't really matter. Just how these two trucks would do off road. Both did great.
Just don't take it through a car wash or wash it in direct sunlight.
It can do both of those things. Where do people even get this stuff from, Facebook?
@@swecreations The manual for every car says it is not recommended to take trough car wash. But these dumbasses jus love to hate for any reason the deem applicable.
You can do that just like with any other car. It literally has a car wash mode.

Roughly £120k in my portfolio are in tech/TSLA stocks, can I get an advice on any other stocks that I can acquire to diversify my reserve across multiple markets while creating a comprehensive portfolio allocation that balances my concerns of risk aversion and returns that meet yearly inflation.
stocks are overrated now. buy gold , 5% in crypto . rest in cash. and wait for the stock/property/land. price to crash . but them after it stops dropping for 7 - 12 months at the bottom.
I have been thinking about how to grow my reserve by atleast 40% or more within months. I will be grateful if you can give tips or anything on how to make good market picks and how I can get my portfolio diversified and balanced in order to meet up my target..
Thanks so much for the tips
Thanks for the info, its highly appreciated.
I can understand people being bearish with these conditions. However, it is not reasonable for most people to sit on the sidelines while your cash position debases by 10% or more per year..What is the best way for me to invest 180k into my portfolio?
Oh god no! I accidentally clicked on the wrong top gear....
How is this a "fair" comparison, with one of the drivers being way more brave on the bumpy thing?
The Cybertruck driver tried to go faster on the whoops, but the truck wasn't handling it.
@@TroySavary The driver wasn't handling it. You could see that he had a relatively smooth drive compared to the other vehicle/driver combination where the tail of the vehicle was all over the place, but the driver handled it and kept his foot planted. Even at the end of the runs, the first guy "this wasn't that bad", the second guy "I'm glad that's over".

@@ingerasulffs Wahhhhh, Tesla lost. Unfaiiiir!
What drive mode was the Rivian in for the whoops and the jump?
cool vid. but i do have to question the "standard suspension" comment (high ride height?), and the diff-locks still letting wheels spin?

As a Cybertruck owner-Tri Motor Foundation Series (from Austin, Texas)-the latest software update will add more features to this truck (and there will be more update every month, for years to come, that NO manufacturer can do).
Additionally, I have the Cyberbeast, which is way better than the Rivian R1T I traded in.
Long story short, this video didn't really show what the Cybertruck can really do, as they only compared the Dual Motor to the R1T Quad Motor. Period.
nicely done but why did you drive in track mode "Sand" in the beginngin and not "Rock"`?
Rear dampening on the Rivian should be adjusted, or upgraded.
CT looked like a 🪳 crawling on Mars…Awesome…!likely more than 90% of buyers will only drive on paved roads!--
Awesome job
The Cybertruck is a beast!!!
How long did the batteries last?
Oh man, those on-the-fender wheel shots are awesome
Another video showed the battery drain is sever and youd need a charging station next door to be able to do this sort of offroading withoit worrying about becoming stranded.
For these sort of trips just bring a generator and some fuel. Once you stop to camp you can charge it overnight.
EVs thrive when off-roading due to slower speeds (exactly opposite to diesel-powered cars, that loose a lot of range due to excessive idling). Well, unless you are going up a literal mountain. Even then, you can simply go back down to gain like half the range back thanks to regen.
Thank You! ❤️ Amazing Content
I miss the original 3
It has to have special tires? Can't just get normal tires? I like the cruise control working at slow speeds. I wish I could roll at 4 miles per hour when in bumper-to-bumper traffic.
The other day, I discovered my Model S's Autopilot will stop and go in stop-and-go traffic. All the way down to zero and back up to my set speed. My beat-up knee cried tears of joy, that day lol
