    This is AMAZING. I am a member of a Ghostbusters group that does charity work to raise money for children's hospitals. Another member and I were just talking about how expensive "traditional" packs are and how heavy...especially for those with back problems. Thank you so much for creating this!

    • @LostWax
      @LostWax  3 ปีที่แล้ว +13

      Hey that's really cool that something like this could be helpful for people that the heavy packs are too much for. And if you can find a cheap source of foam, it's a really inexpensive build.

    From what I have found out, putting together an accurate Ghostbuster costume for my young son and myself, I thought I’d pass on the following. I’m mainly a weekend maker and on a budget. I’d like to come back when the project is done and maybe give an idea of cost and supplies in the US for anyone who is interested.
    The foam proton pack really looks good and its very accurate looking. I would add that you should try and find an EVA mat that has the smallest pattern on the back side. I found one with a steel plate texture and it was a pain to either cut it off or sand it off. Also, I would suggest building the pack in smaller sub-assemblies. For instance, I built the three piece crank generator, including the pipe piece and the narrow strip details, then painted it, and only then added it to the back piece. I thought it might be easier than putting it all together and then worrying about getting a good coverage when it comes time to paint.
    I’ve also found some other pieces and parts for the rest of the costume. As far as the ghost trap, the ecto-goggles and the PKE meter, know what you are buying. I got a static prop for the trap because it's only a hollow box that doesn’t even open, but it won’t be too heavy to hang from a kid’s belt.
    Also, anytime you put the word “Ghostbuster” into any search for prop parts you can expect to be over-charged. I found a military MOLLE backpack frame for really cheap on eBay as well as the military pistol belt. If you search for Ghostbuster gloves you could be paying up to $30. I found Inland Empire Safety in Walnut California that carries actual chemical gloves in smooth black rubber for about $1.50 a pair. Like I said, I’ll report any other finds I make if anyone is interested. I didn’t mean to steal any attention from Chris or the project! Thanks and don’t cross the streams.

    This is absolutely awesome, i did it in about 3 weeks, with custom electronics, and a couple of pieces in a 3d printer, it's perfect, i got my own working proton pack working with an spengler neutrona wand( 3d printed holder and i used some lego bricks to make the pack more solid and be able to hold that weight for a long time) you may want to also buy or to do the alice frame, since it helps the pack to not bend over and also to be more screen accurate, but man, thank you, great tutorial(also if you want to do it, make sure that you print the right size, i did 2 proton packs because the first one wasn't the size of an adult, it was more for a kid, and since it's something you don't know well until you finish, really, check it twice before you start cutting xD)

      Just be aware if you do scale it down, you'll have to either use foam that is scaled down in thickness or make allowances for the foam thickness.

If you get time lol.. only problem in UK was unable to obtain 1inch pipe.. but for 0.8 so guess its close enough. Thanks again.

    My pack is made from Eva foam. A friend of mine 3D printed his, but is considering making an EVA foam as well, simly because of the light weight.

    So, as a fun experiment. I used a 2-3mm thick Sintra on your patterns, and it turned out pretty accurate. I had to alter some things, and cut some extra pieces, but i have a pretty solid looking Pack.

    I just added a 1/8 inch board that fit the pack size. Think of using washer and 2 inch bolts to hold the ALICE Frame to the board. I used rubber cement on the flat side of the board and took foam backing glued. Then, slowly squish together. After dried, cut into shape. Bought a Spirit Halloween Ghost pack for the electronic. That how I made mine.
