  • CAUTION - Video Contains Lights and Lasers
Seeing as the much anticipated 'Ghostbusters: Afterlife' movie is being relesased this coming summer, I thought I'd do a little revamp project in honour of the original toy. At the tender age of five, my parents were awesome enough to have graced me with one of those Ghostbusters Proton Packs, there may still be one lurking in your attics.
I modelled the parts using the size of the toy pack as a guide with calipers. By simulating the original pack in 3D space I could gauge an accurate size for the printed parts. Most of the parts were 3D printed in PolyLite Blue PET-G (supplied by 3d Filaprint) on the creality CR-10 Mini. Although some parts were also printed using SLS printers and the Anycubic Photon printer in clear and grey resin.
The Particle thrower is controlled by the Prop-Maker FeatherWing by Adafruit. I programmed the board using CircuitPython to control a switch, push button, RGB led, 4 Ohm 3 Watt speaker, Neo pixel Jewel and the built-in accelerometer to activate the sound and light effects.
I made a PVC pipe frame and bolted it to the back of the pack, I also added some stickers and straps from an old backpack to finish it off. All in all the project took about a month and alot of that time was spent learning the programming language. I'd never really soldered any boards before so this was a nice little learning curve and im pretty pleased that I was able to add something back to a simple toy that brought me and others a lot of happiness as children. Hopefully my kid will get as big a kick outta playing with this as I did.
Be sure to check out the full project - bit.ly/3coOppI
    Thanks for watching

This is pretty much what I was imagining when playing with the originals back in the 80's! Amazing work and an awesome gift for your kid 👍

My inner 5 year old self is screaming because this is what was happening in my imagination all the way back in the 80s.

Wow, to restore and improve on your childhood toy with such passion, dedication and outright ingenuity is purely a treasure to watch and I can imagine to still have. Those emotions that were given to you in your childhood are kept alive with this demonstration of love. Awesome job!

I'm in absolute awe at this. You've also made me hate myself. If I was capable of doing even a quarter of things you did in that video I'd be over the moon. My best creative achievement is making a smaller box out of a bigger cardboard box for something I sold on eBay. Anyway. Incredible job. You're so skilled!

This completely blew my mind! I wish I was that talented to build such a thing. I still have my childhood proton pack. Although it doesn't exactly fit anymore lol. I remember throwing it off my back because it was going to "overheat" and explode lol. I think that only happened once in the cartoon that I can remember. The green laser reminds me replacing the yellow foam "stream" with the green squiggly stream that came with another kenner GB toy. Forgot what it was called. Very awesome build, I enjoyed watching it come together.

Im jealous. This is exactly what I always wanted/imagined my toy as a kid to be like lol. Same with the P.K.E meter and Ghost trap etc. I was fortunate at the time to have it all back then. Luckily I grabbed a Haslabs pack and wand and am thinking about grabbing another set or 2 to possibly resell.
