You forgot to mention the oil crisis had a pretty big impact on helping the Japanese auto industries grow in the US that really got the ball rolling on getting Americans to be interested in these small compact and great gas millage cars. To me, this was a huge turning point in what you see the JDM culture of today.

Yes, the movie brought it to the masses, but there was a core neiche of us that were involved before it, and were essentially who the movie was targed to.....even though those of us who were around before it regarded the movie with contempt, due to its missunderstanding of the culture. The galant vr4 had 4 wheel steering before the 3000gt. Also 80s honda preludes had it as well.
