Will totally agree with the eclipse. I had a 92 GSX 5 speed. Transmission was glass. Had to rebuild it 3 times in a year and half. Was fun to drive but a money pit.
I made a bold decision to get an Rx-8 as my first car. It taught me more about cars than any other one would have. It was one of the best decisions I have ever made. That being said, it has died after 68k miles.
I look at rotaries like 2 stroke dirt bikes. Just like a two stroke you gotta do a top end rebuild every so often to make sure it doesn’t blow catastrophically
I had a 1982 Datsun 280ZX and it was quite an easy and reliable car to own. I had to help alot of people fix their S30 chassis Z's and it made me appreciate the 280ZX alot more. Especially since fuel rail parts you can find on alot of old mercs/bmws

As a 3000GT owner (own a SL and VR4) I thought this was gonna make it on the list lmao. Pretty typical to be in these type of lists. Side note: both my cars are reliable.
1. Owning a 1g gsx is awesome so long as you're not broke. Did spend a couple weekends just fixing shit but it was well worth it, thing was a blast. 2. I've owned many cars now, and many faster and more valuable than mine but hands down my 04 rx8 has been the best vehicle I've ever purchased, and I dont plan on ever getting rid of It. It's an absolute blast to drive, you can beat the hell out of it with no consequences, and as long as you keep up on matinance they're pretty reliable. Daily drove mine for 3 years aside from winters. Aftermarket parts are abundant and they're for the most part incredibly easy to work on. Also full coverage insurance us about as cheap as covering a 98 civic as technically it's a 1.3l four door. Only thing is I definitely wouldn't recommend owning one if you're not that mechanically inclined or comfortable actually doing work on cars. Also side note burning up a fuse wont melt wiring. Soon as the fuse is gone it's an open circuit. No current flowing.
Tibor Klein maintenance isn’t the half of it.... the renesis in the early years(02-06) had a recall on the entire engine, because they were all pretty much faulty and would blow up sooner or later.... in terms of a rotary, they were unreliable. It’s no opinion, it’s simply a fact😂
Knock on wood- The only issues ive had with my 240z in the last nearly 10 years would be having to replace the clutch master/slave, and the battery. But having said that- When I got the car I rebuilt an l28et, tossed that in, put a stand alone ecu on it, upgraded to an r200 dif, 240sx rear disc brakes, 4 piston front brakes, replaced all the bushings, welded coilovers in it, upgraded the radiator, tossed on a huge fmic, redid the fuel system, Replaced most of the interior, stripped it down and painted it, and tossed in a later year 5 speed transmission.

The 1985 to about 1988 Nissan Maxima was a pain in the ass because they shoved an NA 3.0L V6 too tightly in and they didn't do anything about the blazing underhood temperatures. My mother and some of my friends bought them when they were new. Those cars should have had a spare battery, alternator, and starter to go along with the spare tire. I consider it a mechanical miracle The 1989 Maxima was very similar mechanically, but became one of Nissan's toughest cars ever built. I think Nissan's engineering staff was given an impossible deadline to make a FWD V6 car and that was the result. I remember mom's car being towed often, and sky high repair bills due to a cramped underhood space. However, the JDM U11 Maxima model was probably far worse. In that same cramped and blazing hot engine bay, Nissan decided to cram a turbocharged 2.0L V6 engine. The heat radiating off that turbo must have been intense. There is a tax based on engine displacement in Japan, and that sometimes resulted in the USA getting a better (Or less awful) car. This is why there the Datsun's name also was based on the engine size. The basic S30 Fairlady had to have an SOHC L20 I6 with 2 carbs, but to get more power, there was a super expensive model called the Z432. The Z432 S20 engine had 4 valve combustion chambers, 3 carbs, and 2 cams. If a Datsun 240Z or 260Z is an an unreliable expensive pain in the ass, I can't imagine how much worse it must be to own a Fairlady Z432. Multiple carbs require more work to synchronize them. Since Japan had leaded gasoline in the early 70s, you would either have to retard ignition timing greatly to cope with the 91 or 93 octane gasoline in the USA, buy race fuel, or run octane boosters in pump gas. I think Japan's premium unleaded gasoline has more than 93 octane, so race fuel or octane booster might not have been needed there.
Yo I own a 76 s30 280z and it’s a beautiful car. Sure parts are hard to find and the car breaks down once and a while but there’s nothing like driving a classic JDM.
I don’t know man rx8 might be a rotary and the younger brother who didn’t live up but any rotary engine car are amazing and to own one is a gift in itself
The Subaru Impreza wrx sti, Mitsubishi Lancer Evo VIII-X, and the first or second gen Mazdaspeed 3 hatchback is a medium. It can be the worst depending on who owned one and how they treated it.
I have a Mitsubishi GTO MR Gen 3. And I'll tell you they're amazing to work on, yes they do have a tight engine space but once you learn and start working into the engine bay more, they're actually fun and gives you a challenge. I love a good challenge! I get all my parts in Australia but some come from UK, US and Japan. It can be expensive but many of the people who make the parts support very well and I'll tell you.... They are worth it if you wanna modify a Gto in the long run. Since I have a MR class too, they're much lighter and the fastest in the class. They turn heads alot and many people at car meets got quite jealous. I'm glad I have my dream car and I'm proud to have it no matter what others say. And reliability is very good if you maintain it properly. I believe people who say they aren't never actually worked on one. No offence.
The one single best thing you will ever do as the owner of a RX car... is just go ahead, bite the massive bullet, and convert the engine over to run on premix gas. The engine will never run oil dry if you're running premix. You just carry the premix oil in the trunk and dump the right amount in the tank before every fill up. It may be tedious, but you have to pay a fun tax when you own a car with a 10k redline.
Ex RX8 owner Great car tbh but you have to know your stuff. If you're buying one, buy it with a spare 2k so you can rebuild and upgrade the engine or swap it to an older rotary (easy fit) or another engine. Do that and you're pretty much set! I wish I would've known that before buying mine but I learned a lot and when I buy one again I'm immediately swapping to a 13b-REW

I never understood the hate towards underglow. I get it was mainly an early 2000s phase but it was never something that hurt the performance like all these kids with intense camber or static slammed "builds". Theyre just lights under a car emmitting a soft color of choice. Plus its super rare to see. I dont get why its hated especially when done in a tasteful manner.
As a 280Z owner, that part about electrical problems is so on point, and keeping them stock is a pain. Yes they are indeed beautiful, but man it will cost you alot.
I would like to just say that if you are considering an Rx8 if you can snag a series 2 you’re gonna have far less issues. I’ve got an 11 R3 and I’m sitting at 90k and have had virtually 0 issues. Just top the oil off a couple times between changes and change it out often. You could also do a CAT delete, premix a little bit, and make sure you drive it a bit more aggressive than normal and you’ll help extend it even more.

In the end, I ended up with an EF Civic and a Lexus SC400 (or, "Soarer," in JDM speak), both of which are actually what I was best suited to own all along. So glad things worked out this way instead of buying the vehicles in this video.

They're cheap though, and the community is pretty rad.

I miss mine so much man, first car got it for 3k with 90k miles 🙏. was a 95, car was sexy, most comfortable i’ve been in and the awd was crazy good. however that 4spd and the fact that it weighs like a tank ruined the car. i would give my left nut for a 6spd manual svx with a couple hundred less pounds
@@jovanlovett649 I have an all black '92 that my old man got new back in '92. It has 80k and is currently getting a new alternator. My main goals for that car are definitely a 5 or 6 speed manual swap probably from a WRX STI, new wheels/tires/suspension obviously so I can put in a big brake kit as well. I'm planning on holding onto the car forever because they're so quirky and rare but amazing. I'm still in college so obviously I'm going to be waiting a while before I can do anything that actually costs a good amount of money lol.
Ford Probe weighs less, 6 cyl. And 5 speed manual, windows that open all the way, and if you must have a shit 4 speed auto it has one by the same name, ( no relation tho.) No awd but it manages the tq steer with equal length axles. Quirks include paint colors, heated mirrors, lighted keyholes with power lock/unlock with the key, power seat bolster.

@@zerohourdrift HORRIBLE opinion. Maintenance is key.
@@zerohourdrift Don't buy an early year model then.
Knock on wood- The only issues ive had with my 240z in the last nearly 10 years would be having to replace the clutch master/slave, and the battery.
But having said that-
When I got the car I rebuilt an l28et, tossed that in, put a stand alone ecu on it, upgraded to an r200 dif, 240sx rear disc brakes, 4 piston front brakes, replaced all the bushings, welded coilovers in it, upgraded the radiator, tossed on a huge fmic, redid the fuel system, Replaced most of the interior, stripped it down and painted it, and tossed in a later year 5 speed transmission.
Just picked up a 3G Eclipse Sypder GTS back in October. The oil hadn't been changed in 9 years and gas hadn't been changed in the 7 years it sat abandoned. 187K on it and it immediately fired up with a new battery. He forgot to mention every paycheck going to z1 cause it just be like that
The 1985 to about 1988 Nissan Maxima was a pain in the ass because they shoved an NA 3.0L V6 too tightly in and they didn't do anything about the blazing underhood temperatures.

Just top the oil off a couple times between changes and change it out often. Try owning/fixing/finding parts for a z31! You know, the first-gen 300zx? No, not the cool, sleek, second-gen one you're thinking of (with the "Yeah bro, Lamborghini totally used these on the Diablo" headlights). I'm talking about the mid-to-late 80's wedge that usually gets confused with (and overshadowed by) FC RX7s, MKIII Supras, and C4 Corvettes. It's the ultimate "loved-by-few, forgotten-by-most" JDM machine, with loads of potential, and virtually little-to-no support (aftermarket, or otherwise). They're cheap though, and the community is pretty rad.
