How to build on a budget
    1) get a job
    2) save your money
    3) finish your build in about 30 years when it's irrelevant
    4) cry
I would build my $1,800 rx8 while not on a budget

My favorite car has always been a 300zx. I’ve had like 5 so far, one was crash and the others I sold off. I feel like no one wants to hear this but there are just a few things people should keep in mind.
    1. Build your car for you. If you’re building your car because you want instagram followers or just to look cool in front of other people you’re never going to be happy.
    2. Save money to buy the cleanest example of the car you want that you can find. This will save you from a bunch of nightmares in the future.
    3. If you’re not an experienced Mechanic or engineer, get the car inspected before you buy it.
    4. Maintenance. You’re gonna feel really stupid if you blow a motor cuz you don’t replace your water pump or timing belt right after buying a $2000 set of wheels.
    5. Enjoy your car. If you do the previous things, and your car is on the road. You’ll feel better about that $2000 set of wheels because you can feel the difference in handling every day or you can see how dope it looks after you park it and you’re walking away from it to grab your cup of coffee.

    The way I see it,
    - a good set of rims with good tyres
is the first things you should buy that'll make your car look 10x better than stock.
After that, some wheel spacers would be good to get that decent look.
You then get those aftermarket headlights/taillights, a front lip/splitter, air diffuser, vortex generator and all the other small stuff.
Those are just for looks, but after that, you can buy the cold air intake, exhaust and then work your way up to the bigger stuff (big brake kits, exhaust system, engine, transmission, etc)

  • @proto35
    @proto35 5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

Totally agree. Took me 3 years to figure out what rims I wanted on my car. Understanding how expensive car parts are, I wanted to make sure every decision was impactful. Some wheels work on some cars, and other wheels work better on others - lots of photoshop, and just sitting on the idea to make sure it was the right one. Another thing that has helped me a ton is, people buy parts all the time, and for one reason or another, they never open them up and end up selling them online for significantly less. Literally have saved me hundreds and then some. Patience, the car ain't going anywhere without you anyway. xD

🙌🏻 preach. I actually keep a cheap poster framed picture of my car and divide it into "show", "go" and "low" (low is any performance suspension mod) AND do only one at a time. keep a brain storm list in notes on the phone for each section. The only items that get printed and put on the poster are by part number, size, source and cost.....then and only then pull the trigger.

talking about on a budget, i bought 2015 honda accord last year with 50k km (31k miles) and for 50-60% the prices. It got a nice original mugen racing stripes (which usually sticker make 'em looks cheap but for this it's actually make it looks aggressive), original HKS muffler (just a muffler, not whole system), and 1 weeks later he also gave me a freaking set of 21" Adv wheels and Kumho Ecsta RSX tires. I don't know how expensive is that, what i know is it looks sick.

I don’t have the build car of my dreams yet (it’s an frs) but I will within the next year and I have been planning out what im gonna do when for about half a year now and I have changed my focus multiple times as to what I want initially. Finally after half a year, I was able to exude the initial game plan for my car and that is rallybacker v2 kit, work wheels with federal 595s (s/o fitment industries for their gallery), full exhaust, underbody protection, and tune. You can never plan too far in advance so get your priorities straight before you buy.

Ugh building car is stressful, my first build was a 96 civic. Took about 4 years and upwards of 10kdid everything from body and paint, 2 motor swaps, then ended up tucking and painting the engine bay. Function form type2 covers, varesston VT3 wheels. Ended up pulling the Type R motor put and going with Crower stage two cams, not to mention all the sk2 things. In the long it was a huge money pit that only gove me back 4500 when I had to sell it. Now I dont regret the build, but I would of definitely think twice on the next one. Those were just to name a few parts lol

My project car is going on year 10 of its customization. But I’m getting there. Got the BIG purchases left such as painting and bagging her also tune and cam swap. She will be making 375hp out of a N* v8 at the crank and low and slow and 17 feet long. I love big body cars!

I'm doing it right now, in fact. I don't have a lot of money to drop on that fully built chassis or anything but I'm building my 10-second hot rod paycheck by pay check. It's hard. It takes patience and determination. How I do it is, I set $200 a paycheck aside for parts for my LS swapped truck. If what I need is $200, cool, but if I need a $1000 wiring harness or a $6000 racing transmission then I conserve and save till I got the money (gonna buy that transmission next year). Another trick I use to stay interested and not loose track of were I'm at in the build is to do something on it every week. It could be fixing some wiring, take it for a test drive, buff the the paint work, clean the interior. Anything that simply requires time and not money. You gotta stay interested in what your building or you'll never make progress on it. Plan a realistic time frame to. Three year builds are fairly normal.

I found the best way is to hit junkyards once a month. I've found so much nice aftermarket parts even if it's not for my car I still pick it up. I've found so many raceland coilovers for civics and vw junkyard price 20 bucks a piece that's 80 bucks for coilovers. Then I'll put them on fb forums/marketplace and that's not even just coilovers I've found rims, headlights, taillights, exhuast systems, seats, body kits so on and so on. No joke I did that for 6 months and made enough money to buy a cheap eg civic hatch I put a bunch of junkyard aftermarket parts on cleaned it up and flipped it I spent 400 bucks on the eg hatch with a blown motor I found a b18 in the junkyard with a built head a ls transmission stage 2 short throw shifter bc coils skunk2 exhaust all that I paid another 650. So I had 1050 into the whole car it ran so nice I drove it for a few months then flipped it I put it up for 3k obo and in minutes i had honda boys fighting for it I ended up selling it for 3800. I took that money and did it again. I just got done building a 98 1.8t vw golf I spent 800 bucks on everything and I have a guy coming to look at it today for 2800. I swear you can live off of just flipping parts and builds. Also forums I'll see someone is looking for something like strut bars for a subaru. I'll spend a hour hitting up my local junkyards then if I find them I'll message the person at the junkyard. Then ill leave from there and meet the guy and make a few bucks.

If you're on a super tight budget,
    1) Pick your mods. If you're on the fence about a mod, leave it and do something you're certain about. You can always come back later.
    2) Game the system, I'm in the UK and anything you do to your car can affect insurance. I chose the best brake discs and pads that don't have the 'performance' label attached to them. It's not a modification in the eyes of my insurance company so it doesn't affect my premium. Similarly for tyres, I get the best tyres I can in the factory size. Wider tyres count as a modification.
Cosmetic changes in the form of paint or stickers don't generally affect your premium so long as they don't impede your vision and are super cheap!
Sports suspension and exhausts are always modifications, you can't avoid that, but hopefully you can put the money you saved above towards them!
    3) If you want to change up the look of your wheels and don't need lighter rims, a tin of paint is much cheaper than new wheels.

Three ways to build on a budget.
    1. Buy a car that already has the set up you want on it. A lot of times a person can't charge more for anything they've done to the car.
    2. Place an order of what you want with your local chop shop or independent car thief and save 50% - 75% off retail. You will receive your items anywhere from a few days to a few months. Make sure you're not being followed after making the purchase and picking up said items.
    3. Win a free hoodie from Fitment Industries. The next day put it on and show up to Fitment Industries. Tell them your the new delivery driver and walk into the back. Pick out all the items you want and load them into your vehicle. If someone questions you state your have to delivery. Then deliver to yourself. Congrats you just got the parts to build on a budget and a free hoodie.

Buy used! It's easy to recondition most things if you're concerned about a few scratches, surface rust or wheel pitting. Then, after your $150 wheels look great, sell em for $450. Pocket that money, don't spend it on new wheels that are $450. Do this with other stuff. Image often devalues parts more than anything! It's easy to scrub an exhaust for an hour to remove 90% of the surface rust!!!!

Alexander, while reading some of the coments i got the impression that you are quite protective of your car and that leaves me to asume that it is part of your family, now the question is: what is your relation, and are you willing to modify others members of your family to fit you or the envoirement around you? I require the answer on video.
P.S.: How many times did u try to buy a bodypillow with your car in it?
