Alot of women of colour tend to bleed more heavily on their peroids than average and will do especially if they have issues like fibroids or Endometriosis. B12 and folate low levels are often found in people who were vegan or on a plant based diet. I saw this regularly when I worked in haematology. Hi Diana! This is a really good observation you've made! Alopecia areata is especially linked to deficiencies in vitamin d and there are a surprising amount of black people who suffer from it that are unaware of what it is. Thanks for sharing this!
Over the past few weeks I've suddenly noticed my hair growing faster than it has done for about 15 years. I asked my friend (who knows a lot about hair) if she had any idea why, and she asked me if I'd been eating a lot of spinach. 5 weeks ago I added a lot of spinach to my diet, a couple of handfuls about 4 times a week, so I am putting my hair growth down to that! I can't believe the solution was that simple and I can't believe how quickly it made an impact!
@S A it's impossible to say exactly, but all I know is beforehand I never noticed any hair growth at all, and after I started eating spinach it was visible growth every week or so. So enough that I could see it!
Thanks, I need this. I recently started adding spinach, maybe a week ago. Based on dying a small patch at the root, my hair has been growing, if at all, approx. 1/4-1/8 inch per month...some months zero if seems.

It took me 3+years to figure it out.

I was wondering why I suddenly started buying and eating dark chocolate, which I read had iron. I was never a chocolate eater before. Also, been drinking a lot a tea which I discovered leaches minerals from the body if taken in excess. My hair growth rate is extremely slow.

I started taking iron supplements recently because i had a sneaking suspicion i was iron deficient (as i have also suffered from anaemia in the past). Suddenly my hair started growing like crazy. My hair has literally been the same length since July when i got my hair cut to chin level. Now its reaching my collarbones within a couple of weeks of taking the iron supplements. My hairline is also growing back now finally. I can’t believe i didn’t realise this was the problem all along. Literally it was so simple. I waisted so much time and money on all these fancy hair supplements that didn’t work. I also want to point out that my weight loss triggered my anaemia as in the past i also suffered from iron deficiencies whenever i lost a good amount of weight. I guess because we are eating less our bodies don’t always get all the vitamins and minerals we need through food. So its important to top up your diet with vitamin supplements if this is the case. When you don’t have enough iron in your body. your body cannot produce the Hemoglobin in your blood. Hemoglobin is responsible for carrying oxygen for growth and repair of cells in your body, including the cells that stimulate hair growth.
Good to hear. I too, have extremely low growth rate. A few weeks ago I started eating more spinach and other foods rich in iron together with vitamin C rich foods and hope to get the results you have. I, too wasted so much money on supplements. I never put oil on my scalp anymore. I don’t shampoo my hair often, usually just co wash. I find that’s what makes my hair grow and I clip my ends and get them professionally done yearly. Also, don’t let a lot people in your head in my grandmas voice lol
Use oils from the cooking aisle, not the ones made specifically for hair. The ones in the cooking aisle have less chemicals because it's meant to be consumed, so you get a purer oil without all the extra chemicals. If you can eat and it comes from God's earth then most likely it's good to put in your hair also. Try onion water and clove water! Fruits peals are good as well, since they contain nutrients that can be used for so much more than just being thrown out and only eating or using the vegetable/fruit.
Another couple of video suggestions I have is why is it that one person's type 3c/4a hair looks one way and another person with the same curl pattern look totally different despite having similar hair strand size and porosity?
