I was only 6 when the show came out, but I remember watching it a lot in reruns over the years. It's definitely one of the reasons I got into post-apocalyptic fiction.
Ark II came out in the summer between 5th and 6th grade for me. I was 11 years old, and I was obsessed with the vehicles they built for the show. I also used to roll my eyes at the reused/recycled sound effects taken from Star Trek. And I was IN LOVE with Ruth. What a fun show. I was disappointed that more episodes were not made. It is a shame that the adults of that time did not seem to learn much from the eco-themed morals this show taught the kids. Thanks for posting this!
It's a shame a lot of the kids of our time failed to learn the lesson, too, considering they're now adults making the same mistakes people were making back then.
I remember this show favorably… I was a huge Star Trek fan at the age of 12 and this was on the air… And it was the closest thing to Star Trek since the show went off the air… And it's so nice to see that the cast and crew have such fond memories and had a good time… Because that's not always the case when people go back and look at the work they did… Congratulations thank you
I loved Ark 2 so much as a kid. Just a good message and a well put together show for Saturday mornings fare. All the live action stuff was pretty darn good in my opinion.
I just finished watching all the UFO TV series...next is Ark II...then...on to Space:1999. Been fun to find some of these old programs and re watch. Feel young for a few minutes again. Thanks for this one!
My family spent three years in Hawaii (military), then moved to Tennessee when I was about eight years old. I saw Ark II while we were in Tennessee, and I loved it! I loved the machines and the gadgets and the general "sciencey" feel of the show, and the show reminded me a little bit of Hawaii, thanks to Jean Marie Hon Trager and the ecological theme of the show. Ark II was one of my favorite TV shows in 1976.

Lou Schiemer and Norm Prescott. Those names are embedded in my head because I use to see them moving in a circle in the beginning credits of all these shows.

I tell ya, for a Saturday morning TV show, you guys did one hell of a job! I thought the Ark was the coolest thing!! It sure looked real to me! Even back then as a kid I was wondering how they could afford to make a working truck like the Ark for a kids Saturday morning show. I thought they must have gotten it from an old movie so I used to look and try to find the movie it was from, of course I never found it. But I have to hand it to them, they did a great job!!! It was definitely my favorite Saturday morning show!

I remember watching that as a kid with all the other neighborhood kids. We always called it 'The Fark' - which always brought down an avalanche of laughter.
Nerd Fact I: the Ark II body shell was recycled shortly after for the Saturday morning show Space Academy as the Seeker spaceship stage prop. Nerd fact 2: the Rover was a VW, but the body was a 'Brubaker Box' kit car, modified with an open top. Wonder whatever happened to that prop car?
FYI - Jose Flores past away in 1997. These interviews for the DVD release were recorded in 2006. I have to assume they didn't know. If they did, they would have dedicated it to him as well.
This was an interesting series as far as live action Saturday morning shows went. There’s a video entitled Unintentionally Funny Scene From Ark II where some guy had built a hang glider from bamboo poles and bed sheets and he crashed and the characters and most of the villagers ran over to him and lifted the glider off of him and he was diagnosed with a broken leg and the lead characters sent the villagers to go get sticks and sheets to make a stretcher. They had all that from the glider which is what made it funny but what’s funny now is they’re calling the chimp a monkey!

I loved this show as a kid, and built a Lego version of the Ark. Watching it now seems a bit dated but it's a great show. Sad to hear that Terry has passed, Jean Marie would obviously lead a lifestyle that slows down her aging, and great that she went on to be a pharmacist. Surprised they didn't get Jose interviewed as well, he was still working in 2011. This could easily be rebooted and given another run. Sadly only 15 episodes too. Thanks Megadude for the memories!
