It always amazes me how many shows from my childhood actually weren't around that long, and yet I remember them so vividly decades later. Also interesting that this, Space 1999, and Star Trek TMP had such similar ideas for the uniforms
Absolutely loved those Saturday mornings shows back then! Ark II was definitely one of my favorites. I always wished a toy or model kit of the Ark would have come out but sadly, nothing ever did.
My girlfriend and I met Jean Marie a few years ago and she had barely aged since Ark II. She could have easily fit back in the uniform. We talked with her for a while and she is a really sweetheart
Ah, Ark II, Shazam, Isis, Space Academy and Jason of Star Command. All adventure shows for kids in live action back in the 70s. Jean Marie Han was one of first crushes as a boy. All were fun for me as a kid. All this plus Hilarious House of Frightenstein (a local show) along with the prime time stuff in repeat like Lost In Space, Land of The Giants, Voyage to the Bottom of the Sea. Thanks for bringing these memories for me! 👍🎉
Clearly, Ark-ii and Damnation Ally's Landmaster were different vehicles, as you said. But a video on the Landmaster would be grear. How cool would that be?
The mid 1970s was one of the best times of my life... I was a big Ark II fan as well as The Far Out Space Nuts and Ghost Busters tv shows. Thanks for the memories!... 😊
I must confess one of the things I loved about the original Johnny Quest was there was no weekly "moral of the story". Just Race Bannon kicking ass, taking names, an obviously banging spy babes in one episode.
I loved Ark II as a kid. It was one of those shows that if even the opening wa missed I'd be deflated for the most if not all the Morning/afternoon. It had everything: a kid to project into, a cool lead guy to project my future self into, someone to crush on and a talking chimp. It espescially helped growing up in the South West and getting to see the land out my window reflected in their adventures. But we just couldn't where they toys were. Where was Remco's utility belt version of this show? Where were the action figures and coloring books? Was there even a comic series? (Charlton, maybe?). Great video, great details I never knew.
I enjoyed the show as a youngster. When the DVD box set came out, I bought it and it is on the shelf behind me along with my collection of other favorite shows and movies..
I appreciate how you tell the story of the shows and movies that made me and so many people who we are, with the dignity and respect they deserve. THANKS
Hi Dan.......as you probably know, anyone can talk about the stuff you discuss on your channel, however, it's the presentation and articulation that makes the difference. and yours is excellent. I was 14 when the show premiered and although I loved it, I was confused by the fact that there was no bathroom/shower or sleeping quarters aboard the ARK. Had they not had to garage the ROAMER, perhaps those thing would have fit. Take care.
I love the fact that you actually got to talk about the use of Star Trek sound effects, despite not seeing the show, I’m very well aware of filmation’s sound effects. They kept using I assume copies made of the Star Trek library up until the late 80s, and they most likely gave copies to other studios like Marvel productions and so on
One of my favourite programs as a kid living in New Zealand. I also remember going to the movies to watch the NZ film Battletruck.. Thank you for the history. ✌️❤️🇳🇿
The Brubaker Box was also in Soylent Green. I like the Ark II version better with the cut-out top, as the single sliding door on the regular version is kind of difficult to get in.
Shazam!/ISIS hour. Before that was The Tarzan/Batman Adventure Hour. After Shazam!/ISIS Hour was Space Academy with Johnathan Harris. Bet none of you know that Les Tremayne(1953 War of the Worlds-General Mann/ Monolith Monsters)was Billy Batson's mentor?
@@musicman201047, I remember those Saturday mornings. I don’t think it got any better than that! Kids now missing out on Saturday morning cartoons and live action kid shows is a shame. That was good quality entertainment. Somewhat intelligent, too.
I'm currently working my way through this series, so this episode is very timely for me! I remember loving it as a kid, and am quite enjoying it as an adult.
Thank you for doing this one! ARK II was such a big influence on my 11 year old imagination! Each Saturday afternoon I would go out to play Jonah and pretend my bicycle was a "roamer". I loved the concept of the show and the great memories of that time!
When I was a kid in the back of my parent's car, we drove past the Ark2 siting in a big truck parking lot. The Ark was still there in the 90's, part of it.
Great video, Dan. I recall watching this, “Space Academy” and “Jason of Star Command” around the same era. This series always seemed like a kinder, gentler version of Roger Zelazny’s 1969 novel, “Damnation Alley”.
I remember watching this show on Saturday mornings as a kid. My favorite part was the vehicles and Robby the Robot. Thanks for doing the research and sharing all of this interesting history. have a great week. -David
I still want that toy.....I loved my 70's GIJOE 12 inch vehicle that looked like that, I used every size figure for that vehicle and had fun.....just said this was the land of the giants universe ;)
Hello, Dan! Great channel! I've noticed over several videos you ocassionally refer to museums where movie and TV artifacts can be found for public viewing today. That in itself would be a great video. "Where can we find for public viewing props, costumes, etc. from great shows like Battlestar Galactica (78), Lost in Space, etc.?" Thanks for considering. -Mike
Ahh many of us recall the Landmaster at that sorta gas station in Burbank. My brother picking me up from the airport, we would drive by it and every time we would promise we must stop and check it out. Never did. Thanks for Ark II story. That was a good pick.
I remember this show as a toddler, my mother would put both my sister and I in front of the television in 1976 to watch this on Saturday mornings. I also remember Jason of Star command..and Space Academy.. Another great video 💯💙👍 Time stamped 5:50am(4-14-24)
I have a clear memory of seeing the Damnation Alley Landmaster next to the freeway on a family trip through Los Angeles once when I was a kid. Apparently it was parked next to the auto shop that built it for many years.
Man you just bang these things out left and right and they're so good. Just so chock full of information and really interesting background coverage. Just want to let you know I really appreciate these videos, please keep them coming, but don't work yourself into the ground!!
Ark II, Space Academy and Jason Of Star Command should be rebooted, but not today. Maybe in another couple of decades when the 'stupid' trend that's ruining all the great IPs has run its course.
Hey Dan, absolutely love your channel! I am completely captivated by every video you put out. Even on topics that I hardly even heard of. You make everything so interesting and informative. Looking forward to next weeks video. Thanks again for such an incredible channel!
Interesting you mentioned the vehicle from Damnation Alley. When I was a teenager, I used to see that vehicle in a yard off the Hollywood freeway which also had an original Viper from Battlestar Galactica.
The Land Master was designer/builder Dean Jeffries Studio. Dean Jeffries also built the vehicles used in the Logan's Run TV series as well as the original Monkee Mobile.
". . . every episode began and ended with a numbered entry into the Ark II's log by Commander Jonah, which more often than not contained the weekly moral that the kids learned while watching that particular show. I was so lucky to be born in 1955. From Buck Roger to Star Trek to Star Wars and everything in between (and beyond)! I was so lucky to see sooooooooooo many great shows. If i tried to list them here i would be listing them from here to my 75th birthday 8 years from now. THANKS SO MUCH DAN!
Great coverage Dan! I hope you'll do a feature on a Sci-Fi comedy show called QUARK. I thought the first time I saw Jean Marie Hon it was in a small role in the Steve McQueen film Papillon. IMDB did not confirm that on her listing in their database but if you see papillon you will see a beautiful nude Island girl in the scenes where papillon gets his butterfly tattoo.
Thanks for remembering "children's" shows! I thought Filmation did a great job considering their budget and target audience. As a kid in the 70's who craved everything Sci-Fi, their shows were exciting. Now they are nostalgic! Look forward to your episodes on Space Academy and even Jason of Star Command!
Thx for the memories Dan ! I remember this show from when I was a little colt. Oh live action Saturday Mornings were the best! This, Shazam!, Isis, Sigmund and the Sea Monsters... Really too bad the show had to end so soon, it had a good premise, and could have gone in a unique direction. Eagerly awaiting the model kit of the Ark II- someone get on this!! :)

I was twelve years old at the time. The perfect age for this type of content and I loved it. It didn’t hurt I had a crush on Ruth like so many others.
Word!!☝️💯‼️
I was also 12 and had the hots for her too!
Thanks for the memories. I had forgotten about this show. You know the coolest people. and make the coolest videos
Your shows just get better every episode! Thoroughly enjoying them. Thank you!
I lost count of how many egg carts I turned into Ark II when I was a kid
You don't know how glad I get to say,Yet another fine episode! Thanks Dan and the staff.
I must confess one of the things I loved about the original Johnny Quest was there was no weekly "moral of the story". Just Race Bannon kicking ass, taking names, an obviously banging spy babes in one episode.
59 year old fan here, thanks for doing this coverage Dan
From one Dan to another, keep the great content coming 👏 👍
I was 12 years old when this show debuted in 1976. To be a kid back then and see the shows that I did was something this generation will never know.
Very cool Dan! Thanks for another outstanding episode!
Dan, hope you can do a deep dive into Damnation Alley and the Landmaster.

I love the fact that Dan devotes time to creating content on little known shows such as this. No one else on youtube is doing this.
How could anyone confuse the Ark II for the LandMaster? Both are cool, but I prefer the LandMaster, personally.
The ultimate RVs. 😅
Domination Alley was a cool movie! A video about that cool film would be a good idea!
Definitely :-)

Ever watch "Jason of Star Command"? It actually had 2 seasons!
Yeah, whatever happened to W.1.K.1.?
I would like to hear about Genesis 2, Island City and Into The Fold aka Star Command
As well as Jason of Star Command
So enjoying these mini-docs. I'm really impressed by the depth of information you're able to find.
The Ark & the machine from Damnation Alley make me think of the Mammoth car from Speed Racer, too.
I was 11 years old at the time, and this was my favorite Saturday morning show.
Definitely inspired me to draw many Ark 2 type vehicles as a kid.
This channel makes TH-cam fun again.
I haven't seen that show since 76-78! Thanks for reminding me of this show!!
Cool I remember this show, I will have to find the DVD set now
Jean was one little hottie.... the reason I watched the show LOL
The Brubaker Box was also in Soylent Green. I like the Ark II version better with the cut-out top, as the single sliding door on the regular version is kind of difficult to get in.
Dan, thank you soooo much for posting that wonderful pic of Jean Marie Hahn at 2:52!
Stunning. My kind of woman.
Ark II, right after Mighty Isis.Saturday mornings. Sigh.
Tv in the 70s was pretty good for us kids
I've been watching Isis on TH-cam and enjoying, i have always remember the opening for the show.

WOW! I didn't know that the Roamer still existed and is being restored! I'm betting Pat Hill would love to be in touch with the fellow who owns it!

Did all of Hollywood borrow the Bell jet-pack from Disneyland at one point or another? ;-P
Yes! And the Pilot/Occupant ALWAYS had to wear a helmet; even James Bond!
Any videos on Space 1999 coming up? Great vid as always sir, keep em coming

the Saturday morning cuties from the '70s man i miss that!
I agree. I miss it all.
The Bugaloos. Joy. That Costume. Nuff said.

I hope you do a video on Andy Griffith's show Salvage 1
Good kiddie shows. The vehicle was parked at a business off the 405 Fwy for years. Saw it on the fwy one.
I miss "Starlog" magazine where you could read about all the cool SyFy shows and movies!
You have fast become a highlight of my You Tubing, asking questions I never realised I needed answering. The new opening animations are wonderful.

I would love to see you do an episode on The Fantastic Journey. This is another 1970’s sci-fi/ adventure show that only ran one season.
