Each movie / tv show segment starts of with a ~5 seconds clip taken from that show / movie. See if you can guess which show or movie and which vehicle will be included in the segment.
    Read Below before commenting please:
You are free to comment on what your favorite was which I missed, but PLEASE stop telling me what I missed in the video.
NOTE: I said the Coyote X stunt car ended up as the Knight Rider 2000 PILOT, as in the series, with the Knight 4000. And that's correct.

I personally think Airwolf is the most beautiful helicopter up until this day! , the music , that sleekness, the beauty , that howling sound , the turbo blast the way she sits on her wheels and the way she retracts them when taking off, the chain guns and the cannon and the way she let's them out for combat , the speed and the way in which she flys so smoothly , the secret cave where shes hidden and the way Hawk flys her and drops the vizer on his helmet before blowing up the enemy!

What a great selection of 80's vehicles of all types. The General Lee will always be my favourite. The 80's will always be the very best decade to have grown up in. Not only did they have the best TV shows, but films, music etc etc.

One of the things that many people seem to skim over or not pay enough attention to really notice about Airwolf: She has a learning computer and adaptive computerized flight controls. As seen in Moffett's Ghost and Mind of the Machine, the computer is linked to every system. Combined with a few moments involving Dom, who often talks to the copter as if were a person, and the occasional times when you can hear snarling/growling, it's possible that the onboard computer may be developing a sort of AI of its own, or have some basic one and is buiding on it. I've always thought that was particularly cool.

    • @cybercat29
      @cybercat29 ปีที่แล้ว

I wondered about that. I will have to rewatch the DVDs that I have of Airwolf. Too bad the show did not develop that part. It would have been something for Stringfellow, Dominic, and Archangel to have Airwolf start talking to them using two word sentences which would have had Dominic start helping Airwolf develop the ability to use full sentences.

Airwolf was the best looking heli of all time imo!
The story goes, that after filming, the White Lotus submarine car nick-named 'Wet Nellie" from The Spy who Loved me went on promotional tour, then shipped to put into 10 year pre-paid storage in Long Island New York. After it ran out, it wasn't claimed and the undisclosed storage locker contents went to auction. The winner of that auction won it for $100, occasionally exhibited it between 1989 and 2013 and restored the exterior. In Sept 2013, the owner put it up for auction through RM auctions, Battersea, south west London. It sold for £550,000. The buyer was Elon Musk and at that time he was said to be planning on using Tesla motors electric drive train to convert into a functional car-sub as depicted in the film.
Pretty sure I have seen another one in 2012 at Beaulieu car museum in the UK when they had a Bond car exhibit.
Not like I'm a huge Bond fan, but wanted to contribute.
Keep it tuned for another useless factoid, same time tomorrow! 😂

CHiPs used Kawasaki KZ1000C patrol bikes, the same as what the actual California Highway Patrol was using at the time (nope! Not Harley-Davidsons... in the 80's H-D was still owned by AMF and their bikes weren't well regarded). Subsequent "TV Movies" used BMW police bikes, also the same models as what was in use with the agency at the time of filming (1990's).

I loved many of the movie cars of the 80s, but one of my favorite was the Dodge M4S for the movie Wraith. I'm a dodge fan and back when the movie came out I already knew about this car. Dodge wanted to see if they could build a 200mph 4 cylinder car. They made this prototype sports coupe with a 2.2L twin turbo twin intercooler. This mid-engine car had a tested and confirmed top speed of 194.8 mph. But big thumbs up for Ecto-1, DeLorean and the V8 interceptor. Airwolf, General Lee, and KITT are my three favorites of the 80s! Those three vehicles were the main actors in their respective television series. Very seldom have we seen the vehicles of a movie or television series, be more important than the main actors or actresses themselves.
There's two late 70s to early 80s television shows that deserve mentioning because of the vehicles.... and that's Starsky & Hutch with their 76 Ford Gran Torino. And CHiPs, with their Police Interceptor Motorcycles.

The Stingray coupe was sold and back around '89-'90 I worked in a classic auto store in Langley BC Canada. The store shared space with a trucking company that hauled primarily for a BC owned grocery retailer. The trucking company was and still is noted for their owner-operator pristine red trucks and trailers. The drivers were very well paid and many had classic and custom cars including the owner of the company. One driver, I recall purchased that 'Vette coupe. He was in the shop frequently as he was an acquaintance of one of my co-workers and although or store didn't specialize in Corvette parts we sold him a few items to keep that car healthy. It could be seen often in the driver's parking area when the owner was on the road. I laugh now recalling as none of us in the store knew the TV show very well, we looked a bit baffled when he told us it was the car from "Stingray". Memory served us when he reminded us of the show. It was a cool looking 'Vette for sure. It may still be in the Langley BC Area today though I haven't seen it since the early '90s.

Mindy’s Jeep CJ5 that Mork rode around in upside down, and speaking of Jeeps, all the great Willy’s Jeeps in MASH were cool to see with some great episodes that featured them. I would add the car from Rainman… the Toyota SR5? 4x4 pickup at the end of Back To The Future, and for something really far out there and esoteric, Lady Jane Felsham’s green Range Rover in the UK series Lovejoy was a really nice ride. Fun fact: Airwolf's "cosmetic" additions to the helicopter actually made the aircraft more stable to manage and fly. Blue Thunder's "cosmetic" additions made the damn gazelle so heavy that it made it SLOW, and list off to one side - this is very obvious when you see it coming straight for the camera. All of the practical stunts done with the Blue Thunder helicopter was sped up to give it the false illusion of it being super fast - when in reality, it was slower than someone's grandma on a suped-up wheelchair scooter equipped with a nitro boost.

@@tubewatcher97 uh, Airwolf has about nearly the same abilities Blue Thunder had in terms of stealth - according to the show runners, Airwolf also has espionage and counter-espionage capabilities despite them being rarely used as the primary role for Airwolf was straight up long-range stealth & combat.
Overall, comparing Airwolf v Blue Thunder is like apples to oranges - their roles are very different. Blue Thunder's role was more limited to an urban setting, hence a slightly more robust intelligence-gathering capability. As far as I can remember, BT never used missiles - it's only combat capability came in the form of a chin-turret chain gattling gun, and it couldn't outrun a long-range missile from a nearly-invisible stealth combat helicopter like Airwolf.

I was able to get pictures with and sit inside the drivers seat of both of Knight Rider's KITT and Doc Brown's Back To The Future DeLorean at the Greater Cleveland International Auto Show at the I-X Center (International Exposition center) in Cleveland, OH! And some of the programs and movies you have mentioned- like Street Hawk and Hardcastle and McCormick- I have not seen them but I know of them from Trivial Pursuit trivia game question cards as well! Really enjoyed your video- thanks for putting it out there and thanks for being so concrete on the information on what you featured! The introduction of the third generation Firebird/Trans-Am in 1981/1982 coincided perfectly with Knight Rider. Firebirds/Trams-Ams looked better than they performed and of course there was the differences that the show did for KITT but all that being said, spanning the entire decade and the changes in style and design that occurred through out the 1980s, the third generation Firebird/Trans-Am is the quintessential 1980s car and by its obvious connection, KITT has to be top spot for me.

One of the surviving General Lee's is in an auto museum in South Dakota just off the I-90, it's worth the visit as it's not just a museum for cars but also for many other bits of nostalgia and Americana. Either way Dukes of Hazard is the sole reason that almost every one of that car model from that year is either scrap metal or sitting in a museum unless it was one of the very, VERY few that made it into someone's hands before the producers could buy them up.

The 80s was the decade for great TV shows and movies. My favorites were Airwolf, Blue Thunder, and the Dukes of Hazzard. I imagined myself flying those helicopters, and I loved the way the Dukes always triumphed over Boss Hogg and Sheriff Roscoe.
As for other vehicles (and I'm being somewhat obscure here), how about Boss Hogg's Cadillac convertible and the station wagon from Karate Kid (that needed a push start when it broke down)? Just a thought.

@@GenXToysGeek yeah, I have a mixed relationship with the flag. As a student of the civil war the Battle Flag clearly stood for a country wishing to defend slavery and not issues raised under 1920s revisionist confederacy presentation. But as a symbol of a naughty, rebellious nature I understand the use for the Duke boys, considering they were clearly Robon Hood characters against a corrupt Sherrif and King.

@@brendanhaley3668 It is bittersweet when it comes to the General Lee. I don't believe there was any racial intent when creating the car, however, the whole reason that flag exists in the first place like you said, rooted in keeping slavery legal. When I was a kid in the 80s we had two Bond cars come to our school at different times. The first was the Lotus. It was a working prop with tail/side fins, revolving license plate and gas/smoke dispenser. Couldn't say whether this was a replica or screen used but it was one of the coolest things ever! The 2nd car was the SAAB 900 which was created to promote the relaunch of Bond in books (although I didn't know that at the time). The SAAB also had some gadgets in it but my memory isn't as good about this one. I think it had machine guns behind the license plate and it also had a smoke dispenser. I remember being confused at not seeing it in a previous Bond movie and being even more confused when it didn't feature in the next Bond film (probably For Your Eyes Only or Octopussy).
I got an up-close experience with TV/Movie cars years later working on the Viper TV series. Most memorable day was when we destroyed four of them in one day - intentionally I should add. Many of the cars from the show ended up as the subject of a massive fraud scheme.
