Ive been researching breastfeeding and this is by far the best video I have come accross. Thank you for the real life examples. Its so hard to know if you're doing it right
My son is 9days old and while I was in the hospital, they taught me to quickly shove my son to the breast. I can truly say it was God because you popped up on my Facebook page and this makes so much more sense compared to what I was taught. thank you so much!🥹♥️
I have a similar testimony. An advertisement for the Thompson Technique showed up on my Facebook feed. I also believe it was God… baby will be 2 weeks old tomorrow, and my lactation consultant basically forced my baby to the breast. I am here trying to learn a better approach because my LO does not enjoy that approach
They did that to me too and I told the lady I wasn't comfortable with it. Obviously that is not the right way to breastfeed. It's forceful and ridiculous. Sad they tell new moms to do this
I failed miserably with my first and never recoeved good guidance. I'm pregnant with my second and this really shows me where i went wrong the first time. Thank you for making videos like these!
I just want to say that isn't YOUR failure. That is the failure of others not helping you out during breastfeeding. I hope this second time around is much better for you ❤
I have a 4 day old and my nipples have been through it. She might have a slight tongue tie we will find out soon. But from the start she latched on but it was more of a pinch but now I know the whole areola needs to be inside her mouth as well. Thank you for this informative, not rushed video. Let’s keep going Momma! Love you all❤
I’m a second time mom and I’m rewatching this just for pleasure. A doula in training. I will help other moms thrive when they nurse their precious babies ❤
Oh my God! My baby is almost 2 months old and I struggled to feed her and visited 3 different lactation consultants still suffered from nipple damage and truma .. just now following this blessful technique she latched without any pain at all 😍 thank you Dr. Tompson for your kindness and sharing that method for the benefit of humanity ❤️
That's funny. I was taught cross cradle when getting my baby started bf in hospital but at home instinctively have been doing this method. We are 6 months in with a successful breastfeeding relationship and he jumped from 6th percentile to 20th last Dr visit. Still a little guy but eats great and happy and healthy. No issues with me either. Maybe not good advice for everyone but I am glad I worked at it and believed in our bf success. I had to pump 2 weeks while he was in the NICU and was a mental wreck and there were people warning me breast milk may never be sufficient for him. Happy to be where we are today. Great video
Thank God for this video! Last 2 babies I suffered but the pain eventually went away after about 6 weeks. I'm definitely going to try this! 11 weeks to go!
Good luck 🍀🍀 I hope it improves for you that nipple pain is severe omg especially in those early days!! And when your milk comes in Properly OMG!! I'm giving it my best shot this time too. But I'm only 14 weeks along a while to go for me lol
I have a 6days old newborn, although he is my second I have no knowledge on successful breastfeeding since my 1st born didnt get thru it, and Im having a hard time, pressure, and felts sadness since breastfeeding him without prior knowledge is very painful😢. Been scrolling here for hours on how to do a deep latch because I truly wanted to give him the best milk. I hope this precise demonstration could help me a lot. I will pray for it also.
Did you try it and did it work? I'm in the same boat as you. My baby is a week old and I thought I was doing better this time then with my first. Then the nipple pain came in and I haven't been able to breastfeed because it hurts so bad. I went back to pumping. Hopefully it worked out for you
In my experience with the 9 kids I've breastfed, it all depends on how big their mouth is. Smaller babies are not going to be able to get all of your areola in their mouth. This makes for more pain. Baby number 9 was just under 6 pounds. She's my smallest yet and I have to say that my nipples killed me for about two months straight, till she got to about 8 pounds and was able to fit my whole nipple in her mouth comfortably. With my other babies that were more like 7 to 8 pounds it was only a few weeks of pain. They're is always going to be that initial pain though to start, especially if your baby feeds every 30 minutes like mine did during the first two months. It was hard but you just take your ibuprofen and power through it. That's what I did anyways. Good luck@@ashleyholder8070
@@loriremington9881Hello there! I know this is a late reply but I wanted to put this out there just in case anybody scrolls past here and reads this thread. I think you are right about babies that are small. My son was 6lbs flat when born. It hurt like heck but.... I was able to get through it. Taking the ibuprofen really helped. I feel like after a month I didn't need to take it anymore because he ended up gaining weight quickly. He's almost 6 months and I'm still going strong. He won't even take a bottle. I wish I was able to tough it out with my first but you live and you learn. Thank you for your comment and telling me your experience it really helped at the time I needed it. I feel like this comment helped me more than any video I watched. 😊😊
I appreciate this video so much! I had know idea about this method and it definitely looks more natural than how the hospital would have me breastfeed. I will definitely be keeping this in my back pocket.
Awwww this make me miss when my baby was that tiny. So informative and cute. 2:10 when he got comfortably, properly latched, and not pulling the nipple was the cutest.
So what do the moms like me do when we don’t have giant easy to grab nipples like this lady? Mine are relatively short so that causes my pain. I wish I knew how to fix it
I am saving this for after my baby and I’m definitely going to try it. With my last I had such deep cracks in one nipple that i still have the scar. Mama and baby both look so calm and relaxed here.
I have breastfeeded my firdt daughter (12 year now) for 8 months but never knew that after the first breast release you needed to give a second breast. I have breastfeeded my second during 5 weeks (because of work). Now I'm pregnant again and thankfull for this video.
This method is the same as its always been, except, with a baby who can already latch well, you dont have to challenge a wide open mouth. A lot of mums dont get taught to latch the right way, so even mums with a baby with good abilities, get nipple pain. Those who have babies who underachieve, will still have sore nipples with this technuque.
Honesly this will help me so much with my 3rd! With my first 2 it was so painful I stopped after just 2 weeks with my 1st and 1 months with my 2nd I hope with my 3rd I can last at least a year ❤ x
Wow thank you so much instinctively I've been thinking about how a baby should naturally feed like you see baby animals in nature. Im due my third baby in 4wks and after having nipple trauma and mastitis with both my other two im excited to give it another go but this time putting mine and my babys instincts first and not letting anyone try help me shove baby on to feed so unnatural an never seemed right to me.
This makes so much sense 😭 I am going to try this next time. I was taught to hold my baby's neck and shove my breast in her mouth. She would cry so much from that force. Last time I breastfed was a few days ago, and I did the koala hold, but I held her butt instead of head, and she latched really well. She was a bit fussy, but she was able to get it after a minute or so!
My bub is 6weeks now and i have been doing the cross cradle technique for about 4 weeks after having latching issues. Is it possible to retrain my bub using this technique as i still get painful nipples and she latches very aggressively and flicking my nipple inwards. I find feeds are short because I have to unlatch when she slows down as she starts to pinch the nipple and makes it painful for me. Oh i just bought the programme too. 😊
Wow this is amazing 🥰 I remember my aunt a few years ago with her 1st told me to never have kids because she had such intense nipple pain from breastfeeding and now that I saw this I know where she went wrong. She listened to the hospital about everything. Im pregnant with my 1st and was so nervous for the nipple pain but now I believe I can avoid it :D
I feel stupid for asking this, but does the baby always need the second breast? Is milk from just one not enough? Only 3 months pregnant but trying to learn early!
Dr Robyn suggests that it's preferable to aim to feed from both breasts each feed with a rest and digest period. By doing this, as well as alternating the starting breast, it will assist in maintaining and regulating your breast milk production. Very helpful! I had a hard time with my first. I was afraid put babys nose by my breast because I didn’t want to suffocate him, but I know why I had such bad nipple pain. I’m excited to nurse my next baby and hopeful succeed 🤞
@@yolandahankins5429 I wanted to say thank you for sticking with breastfeeding and congratulations on your twins .One baby is hard enough work ! It doesnt matter as long as babies are fed and I wouldnt judge any mother who doesnt breastfeed and it also doesnt matter if you feed one baby at a time and or express and use a bottle for the other one . This video was great although I think they often show Moms with one baby who feeds well and has good nipples and smaller perky boobs . I found a video where a lactation consultant talks to a mother who demonstrates the football hold whilst tandem feeding her twins at the same time using a pillow but also has flatter nipples and bigger boobs , which can sometimes be more difficult . She still manages to make it look easy though ! , th-cam.com/video/MfNwfg7itYg/w-d-xo.htmlsi=s04RmYu8fdr6HmFC
I had a 9lbs baby 6wks ago. He dropped 25% of his birth weight in 5days in hospital. This was because they hounded me constantly (just like they did with my daughter 5yrs ago) . I got 3 home visits in following week; he gained 20g in day 1, 30g day2 and additional 95g in 2 days after. He is now right on his birth weight @ just under 6wks. But he is doing plenty of wet nappies. About a week ago we both got a cold (sniffles) .. He slept thru the night one of these nights. I let him sleep as my mum says "never wake a sleeping baby" - I agree as every time I've woken either of my babies they dont latch and it feels wrong forcing your nipple down a sleepy babies mouth. Anyway, my mother in law who is OBSESSED with weight (a committed closet bulimic of 50yrs) says she has this "friend" who can do home visits. She didn't own baby scales. I told my MIL I was more concerned with us having a cold than his weight.. It is technically illegal for us to have visitors. Of course MIL gets what MIL wants .. convinces this nurse to buy baby scales. I did not have my record book on me as it was in husband's car. Baby had just done biggest pooh EVER, had slept 3hrs (which is a long time for him to go without feeding as I cluster feed during day and once every 3-4hrs (or whenever he wakes up) during night. So after 10mins of meeting my son she tells me "he's not gaining enough weight". I was on the couch breastfeeding.. Both nurse and MIL pulled up chairs and basically started interrogating me .. the usual hospital system BS that I have heard 100's of times and HELD UP my breast milk. Literally the day I leave hospital is the day milk comes thru. My first was induced @12days over which I deeply regretted. After watching these videos I was determined to have natural labor which I did very successfully. The nurses jabbed him while I was in shower (I was warned this would happen) There were people in & out of our room ever 15-20mins it was so disruptive. Anyway after the last visit I mentioned I started to get paranoid about my supply and I do believe the stress made it drop. I have let go of the anger for the sake of my baby and my BM supply. My baby is not overly chubby but still has rolls on his arms & legs.. My intuition tells me "its a marathon, not a race" .. I do have organic Goats milk formula as a BACK UP in case anything happens... so far haven't needed to use it. After speak with other mums who feel same ,, they don't want to complain because they feel they need to let go of the anger for sake of baby. So nothing is changing in this ridiculous "one size fits all" system. Praise God for people like Dr. Thomson who have intelligence & courage to speak out against mainstream narrative.. It hasn't changed since wartime 50yrs ago and I believe is designed to disrupt mother/baby bond. The ancient cultures would keep their baby in bed with them for 6wks - 3mths, no visitors. I have tried to stick to this as much as possible. Thankfully my husband has really stepped up and is able to pick up daughter from school, wash clothes etc. Apologies for my log comment I just had to say this somewhere. One mother said she came out of shower and a nurse was giving her baby a bottle without her permission- just like they did with my son's injections (how dare they). Doing the maths and going by my own intuition, I feel he may have dropped back slightly due to the cold but its cleared up now... most likely bcos he is breastfed the naturopath said. So why would I pump him full of formula. My MIL was pushing for induction before my due date. WHY? because she wanted to hold a baby. Thats why. Willing to rob him of a good start in life to cure what she calls "baby withdrawals". This is a woman who was 2nd of 8kids, had 6 of her own, 5 survived which is miraculous IMHO considering how obsessed she is with her own weight. I didn't like the way she held him. He never settled with her but out of compassion I did not want to shut her out. Now after what she put us thru I've set firmer boundaries. Mind me my husband told her twice he did not want nurse here after what they put us through in hospital. She then asked me when he wasn't around ; my answer was "I am more concerned with the cold than his weight". Neither of them listened to me and came to my house. Both work with children... and they call themselves Christians?? MIL has degree in "childhood psychology". Like my Poppy said "you can educate a fool, but you still have a fool". Apologies for rushed, long winded comment. There is SO much more I could add but I am short on time (obviously) and feel I've gone on long enough. My boy also has a tongue tie but has not affected his latch. He is very strong with a strong suck as confirmed by lactation specialist. The only issue its caused is he gulps some extra air, which causes him to fuss at boob and leading to gulp more air.. a bit of a "vicious cycle" which cost us some sleep but getting on top of it now. No mother will let their baby starve. I am not a fan of "pumping" as I find it stressful and costly in skin2skin time with the washing up etc. The nurse who came here against my better judgement said cluster feeding is "not sustainable" because "you've got a life too" - My response was "I am not breastfeeding him for his entire life". Never doubt your intuition mommas! #YourBodyYourBaby #ThomsonMethod
Love love love everything you said mama! You are Amazing ! Wonderful To read a comment from such a conscious mother who listens to her intuition ♥️ We women are magical x
I didn’t know to sit up afterwards to help digestion. I would burp then lie him down. Wondered why gassy sometimes after feedings. Good to know. I will let him rest now a few minutes after each feed holding him up on chest.
I didn't produce any milk except for colostrum in my first pregnancy. I'm pregnant with baby2 and thinking if I can breastfeed at least this time... Any advises?
My nipples are cracked since giving birth. Is it normal it hurts when baby latches when doing this position? Also baby does not open the mouth as big as other people say “is perfect to latch”
Today I spent 2 hours with a lactation consultant who told me to hold a baby by neck or head with one hand while squeezing my breast with another and shuffling it to the baby’s mouth. While the latching was successful to get there was a battle and I feel like I am hurting the baby, plus my nipples and areolas started to hurt. 😩 Now I am trying your method but I can't get a deep latch. My breast is large and heavy. The breast in this video is perfect, with a ‘standing’ nipple, which is certainly not my case 😢
Magdalena, every woman and her breasts are unique. The principles are based around a gentle approach, which encourages you to be guided by your maternal instincts and to to mindfully observe your baby's instinctive skills to survive. Commonly taught forceful techniques increase the risk of painful nipple trauma. If you are already experiencing nipple damage, it may take some time and patience for the existing pain to be relieved. If you've purchased the program, I would really encourage you to join the Breastfeeding Club. There are many more examples available for you to observe, and we have 24/7 guidance and support available to help you get through this challenging stage. @@TheThompsonMethod Thank you for your reply! My struggle is not a nipple pain (although there is a small discomfort). My struggle is that my 7 weeks old baby does not want to latch properly, he is opening his mouth and being all fuzzy but just not latching. It seems like my breast is too large and too heavy and it’s falling out from his mouth. And when he finally does, he is drinking only for a few minutes, not willing to work on second let down. Does your program address also these issues? Thank you!
Hi Magdalena, yes our program will assist you in finding the solution to your challenges. Our Admin team will be ready to provide guidance and support in the Breastfeeding Club, should you choose to join. Warm regards, Marie - Team Member
My baby is 34 days old and i have tried this hoping that it might work and it didn't. She take only the nipple and it hurts so much. Where did i go wrong again?
My 2 week old is starting to reject my boob 😢 I will try this method wish me luck it works I feel like a massive failure 😢 I just want to be a good mum and give him the best start I'm a new mum too ❤
The rest and digest period depends on the individual feed and the baby. The baby will reach a gastric filled state, then drift for a while, you will most likely feel a flutter-like movement with the tongue. Generally once emotionally satisfied, feeling nurtured the newborn and young baby slip off the breast. Then they move into the phase of rest and digest, then they begin to give you the cues when that volume of milk has pre-digested in the stomach and much has transferred into the intestine that they are preparing to want the 2nd breast. I hope this helps
This is my 5th baby (3days old ) and I am struggling . I always have been. I really want to be able to breastfeed her as long as possible.I will try this tips . I always forced her head to my nipple because I was afraid of pain .
First time momma here, and this is probably a dumb question but if the baby is to have their nose to the breast and their mouth around the nipple how are they to breath. Maybe it's just the angle but the look of this kinda freaks me out.

Babys nose is exactly shaped to feed like this. The nostrils open to the side and allow breathing without problems:)

Hello the video is very informative. However, I have 2 concerns , please help me with them. 1. I have little heavy breasts, and in this position where nose touches breast, wouldn’t it obstruct baby’s breathing? Mine sometimes have trouble breathing so I have to create some space or tilt her head little outside to create gap between nose and breast. 2. Is it comfortable holding baby only in arms without any support under your arms? Don’t they pain if feeding sessions are like 30-50/60 minutes?
I’m a little worried about having my baby lay on her back after feeding because of her reflux. She was throw up after some eatings, and spit up after most. When I lay her down, it’s even worse. Any advice?
@@elfo8elfo this is what I have been doing, not putting her over my shoulder but sorta in the breastfeeding position just a tad upright. She seems to be doing fine with it!
So what if a baby is not gaining weight by the 6th week using your method? Went from a robust 80% baby to 2% on the WHO growth curve. Would you recommend a more vigorous feed with some reminders to stay active at the breast? Ok keep to the 6 feeds a day and wait for the baby to start gaining?
Every woman is unique and a full history would be necessary to look at your individual situation with your baby. If, at any time you are feeling concerned about your baby’s well being, it’s best to seek advice from your midwife, maternal child & health nurse or the trusted professional.
It's unique for every mother and baby. Dr Robyn encourages you to observe your baby's cues of satisfaction, then the cues for getting ready to feed from the next breast and try to avoid set rules or timing as this can be a source of stress for the mother. This is discussed in great detail in our online program. Here's the link if you'd like to learn more www.thethompsonmethod.com/breastfeeding-course
I am soooo excited to breastfeed again i did wit my first and now im 30 wks pregnant wit my second. There is nothing like it wen bonding wit ur baby ❤️🥰
On some occasions, Dr Robyn suggests it may be necessary to burp a baby, but most babies, given the opportunity will burp naturally when they need to. Warm regards, Marie - Team Member
If you're already breastfeeding and experiencing painful nipples, we do understand that this can be stressful for you. As a new mother with a newborn, you already have enough to deal with! Dr Robyn's PhD research is based on why so many women were experiencing painful nipple trauma in the early postnatal period, on discharge from hospital. Her online program covers the most common reasons why women experience breastfeeding complications and how you can avoid them, or overcome them in the presence of existing issues. You can learn more about the Thompson Method at www.thethompsonmethod.com
Are there any examples of women with very large breasts? I am a size 34I and my breast is so large and hangs down so much that it is difficult to latch this way, and it is easy for my baby to become smothered by my breast tissue. Thanks!
My little one is 2 and a half months. He was born 10 weeks early and was in the NICU for 37 days. I pumped as much as o could but could never make enough and he never latched properly. My milk is now gone. Is it possible to get it started again? I would love to buy this program if it can help me get my milk back!

I used to get so much anxiety before a feed. I have 3 and pregnant with my 4th. Its been 5 years. Im getting that anxiety again 😂🥴 the thought of that pain 😭😭😭
Hi Emma, it's individual for each woman. It depends on the extent of the surgery and whether flow has been interrupted through the glandular tissue. If the surgery was for implants, the implants are often placed behind the glandular tissue, but can take up space in the breasts where the glandular tissue would normally fill out. But if the baby is able to simulate the breasts well with a rhythmical draw - swallow, following the key principles of the Thompson Method, there is every chance you will be able to breastfeed. But it really depends on your unique circumstances and the events that occur around your labour and birth.
How are you supposed to do this with big breasts? Wouldn't the baby suffocate with nostrils to breast? And what about burping between sides and when finished feeding?
Dr Robyn encourages every woman to understand that we are all unique. Breast size and shape, nipple size and direction. Your body is designed uniquely for you and your baby. There are some suggestions, such as rolling up a small towel (flannel) to assist supporting your breast when breastfeeding your baby. This is so you can clearly observe how your baby is positioned at your breast to maximise your baby's oral vacuum function, therefore reducing the risk of nipple trauma.
@@TheThompsonMethod how about a nursing pillow to support heavier babies (since cradling them for 5-10+ minutes at a time can get tiring)? How would you incorporate one of those?

Hi Ella, lovely to hear from you. I'm so sorry to learn of your previous painful breastfeeding experiences. Our aim is to share this information with women during pregnancy so that they can be well informed as they approach their estimated due date. There is so much conflicting and confusing information available for free online (and from many health professionals) that it can become quite overwhelming for many women. To reassure you, in Dr Robyn's PhD research, nipple pain is the #1 reason why women feel forced to give up breastfeeding. The forceful techniques and rapid processing in our hospital system, increases the likelihood of experiencing painful nipple trauma. Our hope is that when you have the knowledge to make informed decisions and observe a few key (but gentle) principles of The Thompson Method, you will reduce the risk of the common and often painful breastfeeding complications. What if baby falls fast asleep and seems content after just one breast? My 8 week old rarely has both breasts and tends to fall right to sleep after one breast. I’ve offered it but not a flinch. This ok?
Unfortunately my baby has a severe cleft palate so she can’t create suction therefore she can’t breastfeed and it just breaks my heart💔. I still try to put a nipple in her mouth for that connection though
I had one too I hope you’re giving them a lot of love because the insecurities grow if you let them. Get scar scream, follow all instructions from doctors when it comes to surgery. Good luck ❤️

Thank you for this informative, not rushed video. Let’s keep going Momma! Love you all❤
I’m a second time mom and I’m rewatching this just for pleasure. A doula in training. I will help other moms thrive when they nurse their precious babies ❤
Oh my God!
My baby is almost 2 months old and I struggled to feed her and visited 3 different lactation consultants still suffered from nipple damage and truma .. just now following this blessful technique she latched without any pain at all 😍
thank you Dr.
Great video
Currently pumping for my premie in NICU, totally confused with which method will be best, cross cradle or Thompson?
Thank God for this video! Last 2 babies I suffered but the pain eventually went away after about 6 weeks. I'm definitely going to try this! 11 weeks to go!
Good luck 🍀🍀 I hope it improves for you that nipple pain is severe omg especially in those early days!! And when your milk comes in Properly OMG!! I'm giving it my best shot this time too. But I'm only 14 weeks along a while to go for me lol
Was it effective?
I was always informed to offer 2nd breast straight away now I know different. Thank you.
There is so much contradictory advice on the net...
So confusing
I appreciate this video so much! I had know idea about this method and it definitely looks more natural than how the hospital would have me breastfeed. I will definitely be keeping this in my back pocket.
There is nothing cuter in this world than a full little baby
I smiled just watching this ❤
Awwww this make me miss when my baby was that tiny. So informative and cute. 2:10 when he got comfortably, properly latched, and not pulling the nipple was the cutest.
So what do the moms like me do when we don’t have giant easy to grab nipples like this lady? Mine are relatively short so that causes my pain. I wish I knew how to fix it
Baby isn't actually sucking the nipple itself, they're stimulating just under the nipple, and over it. So nipple size doesn't matter.
I am saving this for after my baby and I’m definitely going to try it. With my last I had such deep cracks in one nipple that i still have the scar. Mama and baby both look so calm and relaxed here.
Did it help?
I have to say it did. nursing was much more relaxed and I had none of the pain that I did the last time. @@saramach123
I have breastfeeded my firdt daughter (12 year now) for 8 months but never knew that after the first breast release you needed to give a second breast. I have breastfeeded my second during 5 weeks (because of work). Now I'm pregnant again and thankfull for this video.
Watching this now I want a second baby! This little fella is just too precious ❤
I felt that the forceful techniques were unnatural and we have been struggling so much, I'm praying this knowledge changes everything 🙏🙏🙏
What happened
I am truly grateful for this. About to become a mum. Looking forward to it!
Many congratulations on your upcoming arrival. Happy birthing and happy breastfeeding 💕
This is by FAAAR the most helpful and best video i have ever seen! It helped me so much❤❤❤
This video is great but what do you do if you have flat nipples like myself? It’s incredibly hard for baby to latch on & so painful for me too.
Ok that’s the cutest baby I’ve ever seen
Im very late but I’m now where you were with a 6 week old. Did this work for you?
Wow this is amazing 🥰 I remember my aunt a few years ago with her 1st told me to never have kids because she had such intense nipple pain from breastfeeding and now that I saw this I know where she went wrong. She listened to the hospital about everything. Im pregnant with my 1st and was so nervous for the nipple pain but now I believe I can avoid it :D
Oh my god, look at that happy baby 😭😭
I wish I had had this little extra info when I was nursing my kiddos!
This is amazing and worked for me wonders.. thank you for educating 🎉🎉
I cannot wait to try this method!!! Thank you for sharing this!!!!
I’m 31 weeks sobbing lol, our bodies are so amazing
Thank you soo much for this video. I am currently in pain hopefully this will help me out.. because hospital technique is not it.
Did it work ?
I feel stupid for asking this, but does the baby always need the second breast? Is milk from just one not enough? Only 3 months pregnant but trying to learn early!
Dr Robyn suggests that it's preferable to aim to feed from both breasts each feed with a rest and digest period. By doing this, as well as alternating the starting breast, it will assist in maintaining and regulating your breast milk production. If you'd like to learn more about how The Thompson Method can work from you, please download our free guide at www.thethompsonmethod.com/breastfeeding-guide
Very helpful! I had a hard time with my first. I was afraid put babys nose by my breast because I didn’t want to suffocate him, but I know why I had such bad nipple pain. I’m excited to nurse my next baby and hopeful succeed 🤞
What a beautiful baby , thanks mom for showing all us mom's to be of mom's to be one day!
You are so kind, thanks for your comment

I had twins 4 weeks ago!!
I'm not sure how this method will work while feeding both of them but I'm going to try.
Did it work?
@@mominaahmad27 it works best when feeding them individually.
Did you ever try tandem feeding your twins ? There is a way to feed them by lying them on a pillow so they are sort of head to head .
@scooby1992 I actually found a way that fit best for us. It was too demanding to do it that way.
This is almost perfect. Thank you!❤️
Wow.. thank you so much for this information, it's very helpful.
I wish to God someone would have helped me know the correct way to breastfeed!
Babies are so precious
Great video! the baby kind of got in the way for some of it though. I love educational you tube!!
Hope all is going well now. Sending positive vibes
Amen sister! Hope all is better.
Love love love everything you said mama! You are Amazing ! Wonderful
To read a comment from such a conscious mother who listens to her intuition ♥️ We women are magical x
Now I am trying your method but I can't get a deep latch.

My 2 week old is starting to reject my boob 😢 I will try this method wish me luck it works I feel like a massive failure 😢 I just want to be a good mum and give him the best start I'm a new mum too ❤
But does this work with large breasts? Every time I try to hold my baby like this, my breast is too low and not available for baby to latch.
I did this technique and still having a lot of pain. My baby has a small mouth that will not open wide enough and I have large nipples currently.
I know I need to watch for baby’s cues. But roughly how long should the rest and digest phase be?
I always worried about this too but you will see they are just fine
I'll be trying this but does it matter if they have a lip tie?
Every woman and her baby are unique. I’d like to share with you that Dr Robyn has only referred 2 babies for oral procedures in 50 years and has developed methods to help women work through these challenges so that they can get on with breastfeeding their newborns and make informed decisions about the long term when it comes to ties

Amazing vídeo!
The challenging part is to get the baby to open his/her mouth
Will this method help my 2 weeks old baby with nipple confusion?
Hello the video is very informative. However, I have 2 concerns , please help me with them. 1. I have little heavy breasts, and in this position where nose touches breast, wouldn’t it obstruct baby’s breathing? Mine sometimes have trouble breathing so I have to create some space or tilt her head little outside to create gap between nose and breast. 2. Is it comfortable holding baby only in arms without any support under your arms? Don’t they pain if feeding sessions are like 30-50/60 minutes?
Such a sweet baby❤ reminds me of my boy 😇☺️😍
Does the whole areola have to be in baby’s mouth? Because mine is huge and I don’t see how that can happen.
thx mrs thompson you are a saver
I’m a little worried about having my baby lay on her back after feeding because of her reflux. She was throw up after some eatings, and spit up after most.
When I lay her down, it’s even worse. Any advice?
Yeah, that part wouldn't work for my baby either. I guess let baby rest in your arms in a more upright position
This was amazing. Thankyou so much
Approximately how much time should i breastfeed with each breast?
It's unique for every mother and baby. Dr Robyn encourages you to observe your baby's cues of satisfaction, then the cues for getting ready to feed from the next breast and try to avoid set rules or timing as this can be a source of stress for the mother. This is discussed in great detail in our online program. Here's the link if you'd like to learn more www.thethompsonmethod.com/breastfeeding-course
Thanks so much... though mine will just use one breast....am expecting twins....❤❤
I am soooo excited to breastfeed again i did wit my first and now im 30 wks pregnant wit my second. There is nothing like it wen bonding wit ur baby ❤️🥰
Great video thanks for posting! Do you not burp the baby after each breast?
On some occasions, Dr Robyn suggests it may be necessary to burp a baby, but most babies, given the opportunity will burp naturally when they need to. Warm regards, Marie - Team Member
This is such a helpful technique
How do I start with this method if I have a sore nipple already? I’m afraid of the pain.
Thanks!
Same how do us large breasted women accomplish this would like to see an example as well

What do you do if the baby takes only the nipple and not breast tissue?
I used to get so much anxiety before a feed. I have 3 and pregnant with my 4th. Its been 5 years. Im getting that anxiety again 😂🥴 the thought of that pain 😭😭😭
Very informative video for me . Thanks
I have had a breast augmentation 9 years ago. I'm pregnant now and due in 9 weeks... Will I still be able to breast feed?
Hi Emma, it's individual for each woman. It depends on the extent of the surgery and whether flow has been interrupted through the glandular tissue. If the surgery was for implants, the implants are often placed behind the glandular tissue, but can take up space in the breasts where the glandular tissue would normally fill out. But if the baby is able to simulate the breasts well with a rhythmical draw - swallow, following the key principles of the Thompson Method, there is every chance you will be able to breastfeed. But it really depends on your unique circumstances and the events that occur around your labour and birth.
Can this be done with different holds such as reclined and football hold to make sure all ducts are being used?
@@TheThompsonMethod and the lack of actual burping?
@@TheThompsonMethod how about a nursing pillow to support heavier babies (since cradling them for 5-10+ minutes at a time can get tiring)? How would you incorporate one of those?
These are all valid questions, however there is no set rules, given that it's unique for every woman. Hello!
A friend of mine has recently given birth to a baby girl. She cannot sit yet. How would you advice the method to be applied while she can only lie down? Thank you!
I’m 4 days postpartum and I have huge nipples my baby had a tongue tie procedure in the hospital before discharge I’ve been doing the stretches but I have and having no luck latching on my right breast because she keeps latching onto my nipple and my left side has a friction blister that’s now open. I’m currently pumping and syringe feeding until I can get help but idk what to do my lactation lady teaches the nose to nipple and it’s so frustrating 😢
Am trying this method but i have large saggy breast so its not working for me
I keep trying this and it does feel more comfortable but my baby keeps latching and unlatching and starts screaming... what am I doing wrong
I have 3 boys I tried to breastfeed 2 and 3 and struggled to 6 weeks and then gave up. I really want to get it this time. 2 ladies on a Reddit thread suggested this method so I'm studying!! I'm 13 weeks along and allready planning it out I wasn't it to work this time!!!
Let me point you in the direction of some more resources that might assist.

Do you recommend breastfeeding baby laying down (mother and baby on their sides facing each other) at night? I co sleep but worry that baby won’t eat enough and fall asleep. He’s 3 weeks
My encouragement is that you join our free Facebook Group where our Admin team may be able to guide you towards some helpful information about The Thompson Method.

When do you burp them?
What if baby falls fast asleep and seems content after just one breast? My 8 week old rarely has both breasts and tends to fall right to sleep after one breast. I’ve offered it but not a flinch. This ok?
What about those of us who have nothing to latch onto?!!
Do you burp baby at any point during breastfeeding and how often?
My baby is almost a month old and she still isn't latching deep. I find that my nipple is now deformed and too wide for her small mouth. My nipples are flat and I can't seem to get enough areola in her mouth
Is this effective with my kid who has a lip tie? 😢
Every woman and her baby are unique. I’d like to share with you that Dr Robyn has only referred 2 babies for oral procedures in 50 years and has developed methods to help women work through these challenges so that they can get on with breastfeeding their newborns and make informed decisions about the long term when it comes to ties
Perhaps you might like to read some of their stories? www.thethompsonmethod.com/tongue-lip-tie-success-stories
Please know that we respect every woman's decision and care deeply about making her journey a well informed and gentle experience.

i had my baby aug 8 and she damage me the first two days and i gave my self a break for a day now she refuses it but she had a tongue tie that i did get released its been hard idl what to do any more 😢
Keep trying! Have a quiet environment with no distractions, or search up breast refusal online for other reasons. Try using lansinoh or another nipple cream, hydrogel discs to help your nipples heal in between feeds. If you do decide to continue I hope it goes well for you!
