Thanks for watching, Mamas! How do you feel about breastfeeding? My daughter is almost 1 year old and is still nursing... I LOVE it, but also had bumps along the road. Here are all the things that made my breastfeeding journey so amazing - amzn.to/2GKvTJ4
My baby was born on February 25 and we have been breastfeeding since then. He had the perfect latch at first but now that we are home my breasts are hard in spots and I'm leaking alot. When he breastfeeds it is painful but when I remove the nipple to correct the latch, milk spills down his chin. I'm producing so much milk and he is definitely getting it (he's gained 6 oz in a day!) But it's just painful for me and I think it's because my latch isn't as good as it could be. He also falls asleep ALOT during feedings and I feed him once every hour with each breast for 5-8 minutes. Is this common for newborns? This too shall pass? I'm looking forward to seeing him sleeping through the night, last night was so hard on me I bought a pump and have been expressing the build up milk so that maybe during the night I can use this supply.
My son was just born on June 22nd. He has a lip tie and we are not doing so well with breast feeding. I woke today with very full left breast and have been in so much pain. This never happen with my first two and I need help bad
Such a great video! I'm a father to my 5 day old baby girl. It hurts me so much seeing my fiance in pain while breast feeding. We have been coached as much as possible while in the hospital on how to properly breast feed but nothing seemed to work. I took it upon myself (as both my baby and fiance were taking a nap) to do some research. Super glad I stumbled across this video! We just had a successful feeding with ZERO pain! Thank you so much Bridget!
You would think this would be the norm, but it isn't. Thank you so much for trying to help and empower your fiance. Pregnancy and embarking on this journey is so overwhelming and having a partner that truly supports you is so incredible. I hope you and your family are doing well!
Last night I was crying because it was so painful to breastfeed my 5-week-old son. I was getting frustrated at him and immediately at myself for doing so. I was also getting fearful for putting him to breast due to the pain and was going to hire a breastfeeding consultant later today. This video is my Christmas miracle. I just had a good breastfeeding session. From the bottom of my heart, thank you so much. You are an angel. Merry Christmas to you and your family.
Notes : Good latch - means no pain except initially, empty breast easily, wet diapers.. poor latch - sorry nipples throughout , lipstick shaped nipples, discoloration in nipples..Steps : 1) right time is quiet alert stage cues - eye contact, head bob, searching, lip smack..2) position - foot ball hold, front hold.. 3) don't support baby with ur shoulder, just relax ur shoulders n neck 4) don't have baby straight up n face side, their body should be aligned, tummy to ur tummy, 5) don't stretch up nipples to them 6) stimulate their philanthrum to make their mouth wide open, 7) if not compress ur breast to put their mouth 8)make sure their lips are fish liped aroubd areola 9) make sure they are able breathe with nostril properly.. patiently try n give it some time..
I cannot thank you enough, seriously. I was about to throw in the towel. But since I’ve watched this today I’ve had great latches all afternoon/evening. THANK YOU 🙏🏼
What worked for u? My baby is 2 months old and he just doesn open his mouth. Hes so impatient to start feedin he just opens his mouth and lil and almost clamps it onto the nipple. I have cracked nipples now and its si painful
Another indicator that baby's latch isn't excellent is that baby keeps unlatching and trying to re-latch throughout the nursing session. That was one of my big indicators! Excellent advice as always Bridget thank you
first time mom here and i have difficulty to latch my baby. i am literally in tears everytime i breastfed him. i felt like i am not fulfilling him. 😥 I am about to give up but thanks to this video and all the positive and inspirational comments. I will try harder.
My grandma says don't try too hard, she says take a deep breath and relax because baby will mirror your energy and stress can affect your breast milk. It's easier said than done, but she said it can help to remind yourself that you and baby are learning together, so you can even enjoy struggling and learning together
Try breastfeeding in a lying Position, you just have to Position the baby in the right height putting a towel or Something behind the babies back for Support and you can relax while breastfeeding. You can also try to find a lactation counselor to come to your house and help you( it is really worth the money!) I hope you find your way. It is sooooo much easier when you get the grip of it then feeding a bottle. I also had big problems breastfeeding my first child , the second child was a natural talent. Its not always you, sometimes the baby is lazy and needs you to put in extra effort to learn how to feed efficiently.
This is so helpful! I’m nearly 32 weeks along and my first pregnancy. I have zero clue how to do any of this, so I really appreciate your video and suggestions. I’m watching all of your shows, and taking notes! Thank you again for making these accessible to all of us on your channel Bridget!
Thank you for this video. I'm 1 week postpartum, feeling so frustrated and pained due to breastfeeding. I almost thought of stopping my little one from breastfeeding, but after trying some of the tips from this video I'm now breastfeeding with little (still recovering from sore, cracked nipple) to no pain. My little one is also feeding well now .😍
Hello Bridget, You are doing a wonderful job explaining and showing Mamas all the tips and techniques for a great latch. My children are 24 and 26 (and the time went so fast. I literally feel like they were babies last year!) and both times nursing was difficult. I went to a few "lactation consultants and didn't receive half of the info you are teaching Mamas today. You are adorable, well-spoken, and knowledgeable in your trade. I am a lay doula and lay postpartum doula now getting credentialed as well as certifications for Childbirth Educator and a Lactation Consultant. Currently, I am having a career change as I apply to Midwifery Schools to become a Midwife in my 50's. I've ALWAYS known I love ALL areas of the birth world but had no idea about the need and diversity for which Birthworkers are needed. Thanks again!
Now that’s what I‘m talking about!! 🥳 ladies lifting each other up and supporting others! I can’t even stress enough, how much I respect women like you! I have experienced so many women hating on each other, talking trash and just bullying for no reason! Keep up the great community so we can all benefit from it! Love from Germany 👶🏽❤️
With my first son I stopped breastfeeding 2 weeks after he was born and eventually I regretted it. I was so overwhelmed and just gave up. I really want to exclusively breastfeed my second son because I remember all the regret and guilt that followed with my first. I'm motivated to follow through and I'm trying to gather as much information as I can to prepare myself
These tips are so needed and so informative! I had an absolute nightmare feeding our eldest daughter, spending $2,000 on a lactation consultant, trying to express around the clock and in tears constantly! Baby #2 was a completely different experience. Thank you so much for sharing your knowledge to help other mamas with their breastfeeding experience :)
New daddy here, coming from the comments on this video I hate to see my wife in pain as our newborn is having trouble latching at home and my wife is in pain during our feeding sessions, it hurts me to see her in such pain so I’m going to try and show her this video.. Thank you for the supported comments.
I spoke to Several lactation consultants in the hospital when I had my daughter and they all literally told me that it was supposed to hurt. I had cracked and bleeding nipples, supply issues, and a Very cranky baby for the first Month. I ended up essentially giving up and supplementing with formula because I felt like I legitimately could not do it. I had gone crazy guzzling water, taking supplements, eating specific foods every day to up my supply etc the works. None of the people I spoke to explained things like this, one lady seriously shrugged off my concerns and went on to blather on about how she breastfed her 7 kids. That hospital experience was The absolute worst. I hope that I can find more good educational videos like this and just learn for myself to prep for our next child.
So sorry you had that experience. I had sore cracked and eventually bleeding nipples with my first. It was because the latch was not deep enough. In order for the baby to get a good milk supply, the baby needs to have as much of the nipple and areola (brown area around the nipple ) in the mouth so the milk ducts around the nipple are squeezed.
I’m really glad I found your channel! I’m currently pregnant with my first and my sister told me that when she was pregnant she wished she had educated herself more on breastfeeding instead of assuming hospital staff would teach her because she didn’t feel that she got proper support. I look forward to watching more of videos throughout my pregnancy!
This was so reassuring for me being a first time mom sue this July! Hearing that breastfeeding should not be painful was really comforting because when your pregnant people love to tell you how hard it will be.
Thank you so much I a father of a 9day old babygirl and am so happy to come across this video. My wife has been in pain on and off breastfeeding or had some doubts. It sucks that there isn't much I can do to help her with the feedings but watching a few of our videos helps me educate myself on how I can help her feel comfortable. Thank you so much we appreciate it
Great tips!! Back here with baby #5 to refresh my memory. With my first baby, I had many of these problems. It was SO painful. The thing that made the most difference for me was the “hamburger” tip and remembering to put as much of the areola in the baby’s mouth as I can. Also another thing that helped was if my breasts were too engorged to get a good latch was to express some milk first through pumping or by hand. That helped a lot with making a softer breast for baby.
I had such a hard time breastfeeding my newborn for the first week that i stopped. i was bleeding & cracked so bad & i never saw a consultant or even learned about a good latch. Ive been doing so much research for next babies, thank you for this💜
OMG this video has been a lifesaver!! I’m a new mom who is struggling with breastfeeding. In applying your advice and suggestions, I have already seen progress with my newborn in just one day. Thank you so much! Keep posting.
This video literally saved my breastfeeding journey. This is my 3rd baby but first breastfed and I was really struggling with the latch. My 6 week old latches great now and is growing well. Thank you so much!
Your encouragement, shared knowledge, clear explanation, and calm voice literally saved me and baby today. 😌 Bless you for all you do to support us mamas 🥰
I was having difficulties latching my baby on my right breast and was having severe shoulder pain as well. Since im a right handed person, i just wasn’t getting a good position on the right. I was letting my baby feed with the wrong latch thinking that some latch is better than no latch. After watching your video, i decided not to give up and keep trying till i get it right. Now my baby is sleeping like a baby with a full feed and i have no pain at all. Thank you so much for the motivation!
33 weeks 3 days ! Watching this trying to prepare myself , loved how informative this videos was also I’m a visual learner and so this was definitely helpful .
Gave up breastfeeding with my first baby due to the intense pain (I couldn’t figure out how to get a deep latch), plus some other mental health hurdles. Wanting to try again with my second baby due in June, and I’m hoping that with more education (and from attending therapy for a year+ now), I can be more successful. Thank you for sharing such good info that’s so easy to understand! So helpful.
Girl you are such a blessing. I’m 3 days PP with my 4th and while I feel like an expert yes, I still keep learning more and more about pregnancy and babies and due to my own intuition and following wonderful people like you who gracefully share all your wisdom with mothers. Also even though I have 4 I do forget things too, especially about newborns cause they grow so quick. Thank you
Hi Bridget. I watched your videos when I was pregnant with my first baby. Now he is here with me for four days and still watching your videos, this time for breastfeeding. Thanks for all that you do.
I watched one of your videos on breathing through contractions,it helped me a lot throughout my contractions pain. Thank you ,your videos are always worth it .
After watching this video, I had the perfect latch! I was feeling so discouraged with BF because of a clogged duct and just pain in general, that I was mainly pumping for 2 days. Your videos have been so helpful.
Thank you so much! The belly to belly tip was a game changer for me and my baby! He latched right away. Now I enjoy breastfeeding and savor the bonding.
This really helped me understand what everyone talks about by getting a good latch! I’m pregnant now with my first and am sooo lost on breastfeeding so this helped me feel so much more confidant!
Madison Burke Hi! Congratulations on your baby! I am a Lactation consultant and I have a Lactation class video on my channel and I upload a new video each week about different topics in Lactation. Would love to have you subscribe and join the community
Bridget, I just had to come back here and say THANK YOU so much!!! This video is the only thing that has worked for me and my daughter. I just had my third baby four days ago, and I couldn’t get her to latch properly. However, since watching your video, we’ve been successfully breastfeeding since yesterday with only mild pain due to my now healing nips. I’ve wanted to breastfeed and was unsuccessful the first two times. No lactation specialist or nurse has ever been able to help me and you did with this video! I’m so happy I could literally cry. So, thank you again and please keep doing what you’re doing. You give mamas like me on the brink of giving up so much hope!🥰💕
Hi Bridget, you really put out so much good information, shows how much you love doing this. THANKS FOR YOUR LIGHT ON THIS SUBJECT. My baby feeds well but some latches are weak and she starts clicking. I thought it might be tung tie. But she does this only sometimes. I watched this channel throughout my pregnancy and manifested the perfect unmedicated natural birth in a Vietnamese hospital, with a doctor that spoke basic English. I was fully empowered and birthed within 2 hours after arriving at the hospital. Thanks for your work, they don't have Doulas in Vietnam. Women are not allowed their Partners or Husbands during Labour. IT WAS MY OWN INNER/OUTER EXPERIENCE AND JOURNEY. Thank you for your tools that liberated my birthing journey.
This is my second time watching this video. With my last kid, she wasn’t latching and I had to pump for two months until her mouth grew wide enough to latch around my entire aeriola so that it wouldn’t hurt. This video helped me get her to latch. Now, 18 months later, I have a newborn and I recalled watching this video and it helping me with the latch. She is one month and I’m still pumping waiting for her to latch. After seeing this for the second time, I have regained confidence in breastfeeding and am looking forward to her latching! You’re right, it’s very much worth the trial and error!!
Breastfeeding is one of my biggest concerns! I’m about to have my first baby any day now and I just want to be able to breastfeed him but I’m so worried about the complications! Praying that I’m able to feed him the way I want to, as it didn’t work for my own mother for both of her kids!
It's awesome that you're already educating yourself mama! Do you know why you mom wasn't able to breastfeed? Knowing might help you know how to best prepare yourself for your own journey! I always recommend asking the hospital staff if you can see a lactation specialist before you're discharged too!
As long as u are prepared, u'll do well. I had no idea that breastfeeding was so hard or complicated. Faced cracked and bleeding nipples, mastitis and still having trouble after a month 😕
I just had my baby on the 4th of Oct. I was doing fine with the breastfeeding at the hospital but when I got home it started having problems with him not latching on breast engorged. I was getting frustrated but then I clicked on your video to get some tips because I get him to stop crying and you save me now he’s latching on with out a problem and sleeping good.. Thank you so much for this video 🙏🏽🤗
First time worried mom. My baby is 4 weeks old. Just watching your video to make sure Im not missing anything. Looks like Im doing everything right. Thanks for the reassurance!
While watching this i am literally crying because i am unable to feed my 2weeks old baby without crying and pain I feel like my nipple gonna tear out anytime And i am gonna try this Thank you
You got this mamá. Work on that deep latch and if latching continues to be painful beyond the first 30 seconds of latching, break the suction with your finger and try again. If you continue to be in pain, check in with a Lactation consultant, I know many of us are offering virtual visits during Covid/ social distancing
I feel you girl.. i had the same problem.. i cried n cried.. but i used spectra pump with low vaccum till my cracked nipples healed. That helped alot. Also apply vaseline at my cracked nipples help to heal it very quickly
samshu sam literally in the same boat right now. I almost cry every time I feed him I try for him to open wide his mouth but I feel like he doesn’t open enough 😖😖😭
porolita22 I have a video on deep latch technique. Try support baby between the shoulders, point the nipple to his nose and tap the upper lip with nipple to get him to open wide. Bring him close when he opens his mouth really wide. Hope the video helps!
Appreciate this! We ended up struggling with breastfeeding until our baby chiropractor noticed tongue and lip ties. After the revision, I was able to get a much better latch using these positions!!
I wanna thank you so so much for making your content. You really helped me to have a positive birth experience. I delivered my baby via normal delivery last January 5 and I think all of the videos I watched on your channel helped me accomplish it. You gave me confidence that I am made to give birth, that my body is made and capable of that extremely painful experience. I did what you always say, that I should not fight the pain, but rather experience every bits of it, because every contraction leads me on meeting my baby, so i just breathe it out and I am actually feeling the baby come down. I just experienced 2 hours labor then my baby came out easily. 🥰 Thank you so much..
I'm glad you gave real and decent advice! You see I think certain advice can sometimes be deceptive. I gave up breast feeding my first two babies because I was in agony, told if baby is latching properly I shouldn't be in pain, but told my babies were latching well... Come third baby, I had the same issues with pain, told baby was latching well, yet it was only on day 5 that my midwife changed my life. She told me to latch baby on, I did reluctantly and wincing with the pain, she told me to count to 10 and then asked if the pain had now gone. It had... She told me I was fine, the pain would stop within a week or so, it was normal to feel pain in the first 10 seconds as my nipples are still adjusting! I breastfed for 6 months. If only someone had told me the same with my first babies and hadn't made me feel stupid with the contradictions in 'advice'! Pain is NORMAL! Please don't believe otherwise or you'll give up thinking you're doing it all wrong! The pain shouldn't last forever and it shouldn't necessarily last the entire feed although the pain may be more severe throughout the first couple of days for the first couple of minutes, but it is normal! My pain was completely gone by week 2. Sometimes I had discolouration in the beginning and the lipstick shape at times but it wasn't with every feed.
You can do it! When frustration gets to you, take a break and try again when you are more calm. My baby used to sense my stress and would get anxious as well when he couldn't latch. I send you lots and lots of positive thoughts❤
For those mom with flat nipples. I learned in the hospital that if your breast is too full, it will be super hard for the baby to latch. So you should massage the aurela and get some of the milk out. If your aurela is soft is much easier for the baby to latch. As it do it so, the nipple will be formed even more when the baby sucks.
Thanks for this video! The 2 feeds immediately after watching this went so smooth. I'm sure it was implementing the refreshers explained here & feeling more relaxed or confident that made all the difference. Now to get that every time, lol! Breastfeeding is hard. Stay strong fellow mamas 💪
I've had my first child & was so sad when I just could not seem to get breastfeeding to work for me or him. Your videos are so helpful, & I look forward to putting the advice into action when we have our next child. Thank you!
I LOVE YOU SO MUCH!!! THANKS FOR SAVING ME AND MY BABY FROM GIVING UP ON BREASTFEEDING. Chapped nipples and bleeding until i saw this video, changed my life!
I just discovered your channel today. Your help is making me so excited to start this new journey with my son. I'm 4 months away from my due date and I'm so optimistic about this ❤
I need to say Thank you so much for this video!! Latching was a challenge from the beginning, my baby really struggled to latch at all and on the rarity she did latch, she didn't know how to stay on. I had endless midwifes offering contradicting advice and it became so overwhelming! Although I said I would quit trying many many times, I did continue to persist with nipple sheilds. At 8 weeks I found this video, and from then on my baby could latch! It was an incredible feeling. 6 months down the line now and still going well. My supply has never been able to catch up from the 8 week delay, so I combine feed, but I am so grateful I have been able to give her breast milk for part of her diet and comfort her that way!
Thank you so much for making this video i was skeptical because i tried other videos and advice but was still in agony when my baby was latching on. Finally feeding him without the horrible pains. Thank you again so much ❤
Omg I can’t tell you how helpful and detailed this video was 100 times like I just hope it works for me n my baby girl lots of prayers for helping me understand and encouraging
Thanks for the tips, I just have one more question - what about the waving and grabbing everything little hands? I have a hard time calming those and my baby gets frustrated by the time I position him on my breast
38 weeks pregnant, and i have been watching all of ur videos! I love them, i love how u explain and ur hamburger example lol I will be back once my baby is born and have a better idea of wat ur talking about haha Im not worried about delivery its just the breastfeeding, such a new expierence and im clueless 🤷🏽♀️
Am so scared of breastfeeding, specifically because other mommas say itll bleed, they’ll bite…. Your video makes me feel much better about it. Any tips on the biting though?
I've had such a messy breastfeeding history, my 1st baby young and gave up after 1 month. My second gave up after 2 months they lost too much weight. Third I had a 28 week old prem and pumped well until about 7 months so that was great. I've never really experienced proper breastfeeding. Now 4th baby due I still want this experience so thank you for showing it's not just for 1st time mums u can assure you. God bless you.
I was about to give up with engorged and bleeding cracked nipples after I watch your video I was able to feed her with minimal pain!! I would sweat from the agony she was causing!! Thank you soo much
Oh my goodness yes I would catch the sweats literally scared shitless of the pain haha. But she is one month now and it got better after two weeks. Whew. But now dealing with low supply. First it was too much smh
Currently breastfeeding my 3rd baby, he’s 2 weeks old the first few days were great but now his latch is awful and I’m really struggling with sore nipples and pain throughout feeding. So glad I found your video thank you for all of your tips
Hang in there mamas. It may take some time but dont be discouraged. I just realised after my second that my body takes 5-7days to produce mature milk. These tips helped a lot after my milk came in. Just try to stay positive. You can do this.
This video was so helpful, thank you! I felt so overwhelmed while we were in the hospital I feel like I forgot everything the lactation nurses told me so I definitely needed this!😊
I've been watching your videos to help prepare for natural water birth. Now that our baby is here after a successful natural birth, I'm here to make sure we get a good latch from the get-go. Thank you for all of the information you share!
Your vedios are so Helpful and informative. I'm 32 weeks pregnant and have been following you for a while. And this is my first baby I really appreciate your vedios thank you!!
Thank you so much so thankful that I came across your video. My son is 6 weeks old and I have been holding him wrongly this whole time and just yesterday he has been getting upset seeing he hasn’t been able to latch on. I realised I was holding him as you said ‘imagine drinking a Starbucks with your head tilted to the side’ 🙁 (I feel so bad) I was already thinking of putting him on formula cause he wasn’t producing enough wet nappies and I was scared of him getting dehydrated due to not getting enough milk cause of his latching. Thank the Lord for you now my son will carry on with his breastfeeding journey 🤗 so thankful right now! - keep up the great work you are making a difference 🤗
Bridget you are such a sweet spirit. The Lord has truly given you such a gift and it is clear that you are walking in His purpose for you! Thank you for all the amazing free resources!
I love all your videos Bridget! You help us pregnancy, labor & delivery, and postpartum ❤️ I wanted to touch on how you mentioned noisiness and clicking during a latch - amongst other things, this is a sign that baby has a tongue and/or lip tie that should be evaluated by a pediatric dentist for revision. My 3 week old had both a tongue and a lip tie revision, so we are working with an IBCLC to relearn a proper latch now that he has more lip and tongue mobility 😊❤️
I believe my baby might have that. She is 1 month now. I have seen a lactation consultant and latching still hasn’t improved. I mentioned lip or tongue tie and she doesn’t believe that is a problem. But I feel otherwise. Every feeding consists of nonstop loud clicking sounds. When I do manage to get a better latch around the areola my baby gags every time. She’s always hungry even after she eats too. Though she is gaining weight nicely.. Not to mention, she cannot latch properly on a bottle either, the same nonstop clicking sound problem. I’m very confused
I just gave birth yesterday and I had a breakdown this morning because my baby is refusing to latch and feed from me .. I'll try your tips now 🙏🏻 wish me luck! ❤
This is so helpful! My baby is three months and experiencing a bit of a nursing crisis from what I’ve read 😢 do you have any videos for older babies and the challenges that might come up with nursing then?
I would love to see a video about how to fix a bad latch, I'm having trouble finding anything. I have watched and read all about how to have a good latch and I know that what my baby has now is a bad latch, but all the guides on how to do it correctly aren't helping. It's painful but I really want to continue and improve it, but feel like I'm out of resources. I've seen 2 lactation consultants already and am seeing another tomorrow to check for tongue and lip ties. How can I get baby to open his mouth wide if he doesn't do it on his own? Sometimes it seems like I get a good latch to start but then he pulls back so he's just on the nipple, what do I do? Things like that would be so helpful.
Thank you! I just had my 7th baby and never had this much trouble nursing. She latches but wont suck. She falls asleep right away. When we try to wake her she gets way too upset and frantic and can't latch. I'm working at it though.
I’m yet to try this. But it’s so great that you describe things that indicate things are not right. My right boob is relatively fine, the left one is an agony… I see that only little bit of areola is showing and lips are mostly fishlike and I assumed it was just my flat nipple that is causing the pain. Then you mentioned lipstick like no pole and white mark from cut circulation and I do notice all that! In everybody else’s videos people are talking about good latch from the perspective of someone who just want to know about breastfeeding. And this video is actually troubleshooting the problem that people already might have. And this is exactly why we are watching those videos!
Goodness thank you so much!!! I struggled with establishing with my first, and now my second. no one could help me figure out why the “establishing positions” (cross cradle, football hold) always left me not feeling supported enough to feed my baby.
Oh my goodness, I knew my latches were off so I wanted to see if that was the case and I literally tried this stuff one time and my latch was completely painless😊😭❤️
STM here and I remember struggling thjs much with my first but we eventually got it and had great sessions, so I look forward to that with my second. It takes time to get it right and lots of practice. We’re in the frustration phase but I’m not giving up.
Thanks for this wonderful video.. I'm taking note of everything cause i really want to breastfeed my child.. No formula or bottlefeed, just pure mama's milk. My grandma, mom and aunts were able to do it and I wanna do it too.. Experiencing motherhood to the fullest.. This is going to be my first child by the way.. Baby due in 2 weeks, I'm so excited but also very tired lol
This is amazing! It is so important to have the support of women from other generations of breastfeeders in your family. Family support and a supportive partner are huge to succeeding at breastfeeding
Thank you for this video! Due to covid all of the lactation /breastfeeding classes at kaiser are cancelled and I’m due In November and slowly freaking out that I have no idea what I’m gonna be doing. But this definitely helped a lot to learn about the different positions to get a good latch! 😍
I went through Kaiser, I personally am not a fan. They just told me “she can’t latch you’ll need to pump and feed and use formula” really disheartening.
This is what the lactation consultant told me in the hospital, and it was definitely an improvement from what I was initially doing. But what really helped get a good latch was the Thompson Method. Getting that natural movement from her is the only way to open her mouth wide.
Im halfway through my second pregnancy and am trying to get good tips on breastfeeding. After my first baby was born I spent 2 weeks with cracked bleeding nipples that hurt so bad that water running on them from the shower would sting. And after two weeks of everyone kind of turning me away and telling me thats just what breastfeeding feels like and to just put some nipple salve on I just kinda gave up. But I really don't want that to happen this time. Thank you for all the tips!!!
Thank you so much, after watching your video and learning about the sandwich method I’m having a better time nursing my baby. There is less pain and stress between the both of us! Thank you so so much ♥️♥️
Thanks so much for this I am giving birth by c section on monday to my 4th baby but this will be my 1st time breast feeding and i am super nervous but this is helpful
I wish I’d found this channel and this video when I had my first! He’s turning one in two weeks 🥹 thank you for this! Expecting our second in April and I can’t wait, I feel so much more prepared and excited and calm!
Watching this as a refresher. I breastfed my son for a year and had a great experience but I'm having baby #2 in a couple weeks 5 years later so I need to make sure I remember how it works
My baby is making the clicking sound and I was thinking it was normal. The reason I guess she’s constantly crying due to excess air being sucked. Also I got super sore nipples even after 3 weeks of constant feeding. I’m gonna try these tips for better latch
I am crying had problems the first few days of breastfeeding. Now my baby is breastfeeding but it is very painful and sore. Like you said at the beginning the lipstick shape is what happens when breastfeeding but he latches. I am going to try these suggestions i really hope it will be less painful
Hi mama! It sounds like baby is not latching well. Reach out to a local IBCLC or attend La Leche League Meetings for breastfeeding support. You can find more virtual breastfeeding support on my channel. I‘m an IBCLC and I post breastfeeding tips every Tuesday. Here’s video on what breastfeeding should feel th-cam.com/video/Y3HbvwtyxhY/w-d-xo.html. Be well.
One thing I would like you to talk about is tongue ties and how they can affect baby’s latch and ability to drain the breast properly. Now that we have fixed our tie, these tips have been super helpful. I’m a third time mum, but first time breastfeeding with support. Baby is almost 2weeks old and she’s had more breastmilk than my second child. Who I only breastfed for 5 days due to fear from first experience. My first son had a really bad tongue tie like my third, but could never get him off the shield, and the lactation consultant put the fear in me that he wasn’t gaining enough weight, and I wasn’t aware of cluster feeding. So only went 6 weeks with him. My third is my last, and I really want to breastfeed for as long as possible. So thank you so much for this video.
Why didn't anyone tell me with my first babe?!? My heart was so set on breastfeeding and he would not latch correctly and I beat myself up because I couldn't breastfeed. And the nursing consultant literally told me I wasn't shaped for breastfeeding and that was it🙄😭 Wish me better luck with baby #2 ❤
Bridget, you’re an angel! This video was so informative and helpful, going beyond the basics you can find anywhere on the internet. This is my sixth baby and yet it always feels like the first when it comes to establishing good breastfeeding. It’s a very emotional experience and your kind and thorough instruction is such a blessing!
Thanks for watching, Mamas! How do you feel about breastfeeding? My daughter is almost 1 year old and is still nursing... I LOVE it, but also had bumps along the road. Here are all the things that made my breastfeeding journey so amazing - amzn.to/2GKvTJ4
I have been breastfeeding for 2 years now...Baby 2 is coming very soon. (week 39)
I feel very pain 😪😥 my daughter is 26 days old
Is it too late to correct a baby's latch 4 weeks after birth?
What a great, loving, supporting thing to do as a spouce and father!
You would think this would be the norm, but it isn't. Thank you so much for trying to help and empower your fiance. Pregnancy and embarking on this journey is so overwhelming and having a partner that truly supports you is so incredible. I hope you and your family are doing well!
And I thought I was going to be the only father watching this video. I'm doing the same thing while my wife rest and sleeps
Wow, same for me!!
Who was coaching you? Your drunken buddies at the bar? Lmao
3) don't support baby with ur shoulder, just relax ur shoulders n neck 4) don't have baby straight up n face side, their body should be aligned, tummy to ur tummy, 5) don't stretch up nipples to them 6) stimulate their philanthrum to make their mouth wide open, 7) if not compress ur breast to put their mouth 8)make sure their lips are fish liped aroubd areola 9) make sure they are able breathe with nostril properly.. patiently try n give it some time..
philtrum
I was literally sobbing while holding my babygirl thinking I failed her, she latches so easy now thank you so much!
Yay!!!! 🤍🤍🤍🤍🤍 YOU did it!
Same happened to me!!
This is me right now. Currently giving my 7 day old a bottle with breast milk feeling like I can’t get it right.
@@janaehawkins4417 how did it go, did you manage to get a good latch in the end?
Me right now!
Thank you
Yessss my daughter does the same and the longer I take the more impatient she gets.
@@DEFW21 well put!
Try breastfeeding in a lying Position, you just have to Position the baby in the right height putting a towel or Something behind the babies back for Support and you can relax while breastfeeding. You can also try to find a lactation counselor to come to your house and help you( it is really worth the money!)
I hope you find your way. It is sooooo much easier when you get the grip of it then feeding a bottle. I also had big problems breastfeeding my first child , the second child was a natural talent. Its not always you, sometimes the baby is lazy and needs you to put in extra effort to learn how to feed efficiently.
@@DEFW21 i can't wait to start this journey with my baby. thank you!!
This is so helpful! I’m nearly 32 weeks along and my first pregnancy. I have zero clue how to do any of this, so I really appreciate your video and suggestions. I’m watching all of your shows, and taking notes! Thank you again for making these accessible to all of us on your channel Bridget!
Exact same over here!
Are you breastfeeding successfully?
Florence D.S are you breastfeeding successfully?
OMG! I’m a doula, and I think you are AMAZING! Mammas, please follow her!
I have the same breast model!
Nose to nipple.
Same situation! I'm gonna try to be more educated this go around
Wow can't believe they told you it is supposed to hurt... that is 100% wrong 😑
You can also reach out to La Leche League as they have great information and are doing virtual classes.
I had baby girl 2 weeks back and every fucking next person told me that it just hurts and it gets better! How thankful I found this video 🙏
It actually is supposed to hurt the first week.. it shouldn’t hurt after that and once you get used to it
I’m really glad I found your channel!
Ugh soooo true
how did it end up going???
Ive been doing so much research for next babies, thank you for this💜
Sarah Homrich me too I’m here for the same reason. Feel much more informed this

OMG this video has been a lifesaver!! I’m a new mom who is struggling with breastfeeding. In applying your advice and suggestions, I have already seen progress with my newborn in just one day. Thank you so much! Keep posting.
Hang in there mama. You're doing it! I post breastfeeding specific tips on my channel. It might be very helpful to you. All the best.
Same for me. Bridget your breathing techniques helped me have my baby in a natural way without an epidural. Thank you so much
After watching this video, I had the perfect latch!
When are you due ?
@@holar1698 Beginning of October. I had really wanted to take some classes, but can't now! May try to do something online before then.
@@spritegeek5888 I was shocked as to how challenging it was too
Girl thank you. I just followed your tips and FINALLY after 4 weeks of discouragement had a latch I feel comfortable with.
Happy for you, also 4 weeks and struggling
I just had my baby on the 4th of Oct. I was doing fine with the breastfeeding at the hospital but when I got home it started having problems with him not latching on breast engorged. I was getting frustrated but then I clicked on your video to get some tips because I get him to stop crying and you save me now he’s latching on with out a problem and sleeping good.. Thank you so much for this video 🙏🏽🤗
First time worried mom. My baby is 4 weeks old. Just watching your video to make sure Im not missing anything. Looks like Im doing everything right. Thanks for the reassurance!
While watching this i am literally crying because i am unable to feed my 2weeks old baby without crying and pain
I feel like my nipple gonna tear out anytime
And i am gonna try this
Thank you
You got this mamá.
Plz help me
I’m going through the same situation
Intense burning and aching
I have short nipples
What to do ?
I JIST CAME ACOSS THIS VIDEO!! MY NIPPLES ARE SO SORE DURING BREASTFEEDING I CRY LITERALLY!! THANK YOU FOR THIS VIDEO!!!
Appreciate this! We ended up struggling with breastfeeding until our baby chiropractor noticed tongue and lip ties. After the revision, I was able to get a much better latch using these positions!!
I'm a 2nd time mama & I was breastfeeding my 2nd girl when I stumbled on your vid. Made the small changes & my sore nipples doesn't hurt anymore... 🥰
I'm still trying to figure out how my nipple isnt going to get pulled if I allow him to latch on his own
I wanna thank you so so much for making your content.
Getting my baby to latch has been such a struggle 😩. I hope I can get through this.
Thank you again so much ❤
I never even thought of putting his belly up against mine! I’m so trying that.
Omg I can’t tell you how helpful and detailed this video was 100 times like
I just hope it works for me n my baby girl lots of prayers for helping me understand and encouraging
Thanks for the tips, I just have one more question - what about the waving and grabbing everything little hands? I have a hard time calming those and my baby gets frustrated by the time I position him on my breast
38 weeks pregnant, and i have been watching all of ur videos! I love them, i love how u explain and ur hamburger example lol
I will be back once my baby is born and have a better idea of wat ur talking about haha
Im not worried about delivery its just the breastfeeding, such a new expierence and im clueless 🤷🏽♀️
Congrats! I post breastfeeding specific tips on my channel.
I didn't know about the c section position , THANK YOU🥺🥺🥺♥️
Fantastic video!!! You are so thorough and clear in your descriptions and your viewers really appreciate it!!!
I'm so glad you enjoyed it!
This is an awesome presentation
Currently breastfeeding my 3rd baby, he’s 2 weeks old the first few days were great but now his latch is awful and I’m really struggling with sore nipples and pain throughout feeding. So glad I found your video thank you for all of your tips
Thanks for the great tips. It really does work. The pain is gone. I'm so happy. Thank you very much.
YAY!!!!
Listen ….You are a GODSEND. I tried these tips, it was hard work and now i got it😘😘☺️thaaankssss
An effective latch is vital! Keep up the great work mama. I post breastfeeding specific tips on my channel.
You help us pregnancy, labor & delivery, and postpartum ❤️
I wanted to touch on how you mentioned noisiness and clicking during a latch - amongst other things, this is a sign that baby has a tongue and/or lip tie that should be evaluated by a pediatric dentist for revision. My 3 week old had both a tongue and a lip tie revision, so we are working with an IBCLC to relearn a proper latch now that he has more lip and tongue mobility 😊❤️
This is such great input- you're exactly right! And I'm so happy to hear that you're getting the support you need for your breastfeeding journey!
Are you breastfeeding successfully?
I really hope things worked out for you and your baby :)
This is so helpful! My baby is three months and experiencing a bit of a nursing crisis from what I’ve read 😢 do you have any videos for older babies and the challenges that might come up with nursing then?
I’m almost due with my third baby and third time breastfeeding, but I still found this to be a very helpful review to prepare! Thanks!
Bridget, you are just amazing! You are with me throughout my pregnancy, labor and now breastfeeding :) thank you!
This is so informative I’m pregnant with my third and never had great success with BF only made it 4-5 months both times so thank you for this
Thanks for this wonderful video..
I appreciate all your tips. Breastfeeding has had it's challenges for me as a first time mom.
Thank you for this video! Due to covid all of the lactation /breastfeeding classes at kaiser are cancelled and I’m due In November and slowly freaking out that I have no idea what I’m gonna be doing. But this definitely helped a lot to learn about the different positions to get a good latch! 😍
Same here! Due in Nov. Dumb covid -_- glad that we have good people like this to help us !!
I went through Kaiser, I personally am not a fan. They just told me “she can’t latch you’ll need to pump and feed and use formula” really disheartening.
I had my baby 2 days ago and I am in sooo much pain and keep crying during feedings. I’m going to try these tips at my next feeding! ❤️
You are not alone. I am feeling this too xx
Yep, me too. Baby was born just a couple of days ago and I already feel like I'm failing him.
Way to try again!
Thank you so much, after watching your video and learning about the sandwich method I’m having a better time nursing my baby. There is less pain and stress between the both of us! Thank you so so much ♥️♥️
Bridget, thank you so much for sharing this information.
Your communication style is so calm and clear, so nice to watch. ❤❤ much love ❤❤❤
Be well.
@@PrenatalYini thank you
One thing I would like you to talk about is tongue ties and how they can affect baby’s latch and ability to drain the breast properly.
And the nursing consultant literally told me I wasn't shaped for breastfeeding and that was it🙄😭
Wish me better luck with baby #2 ❤
Bridget, you’re an angel! This video was so informative and helpful, going beyond the basics you can find anywhere on the internet. This is my sixth baby and yet it always feels like the first when it comes to establishing good breastfeeding. It’s a very emotional experience and your kind and thorough instruction is such a blessing!
