Thanks for your nice review. There are many more interesting Bruckner videos in our channel and also on our website: ndr.de/orchester_chor/elbphilharmonieorchester/Anton-Bruckner-Guenter-Wand-und-das-NDR-Elbphilharmonie-Orchester,bruckner146.html
Oh man, I just love how Wand goes from conducting 4 into 2, fully aware of the many subdivisions underneath, to "DONT YOU DARE EVEN THINK OF ANYTHING BUT BIG BEATS HERE!" (even though the multiple subdivisions are still there). 16:08 to 16:12. Then back to 4 when timpani comes in at the A Major resolution...he can't be stopped or ignored, lol.
THE MAGIC WAND....The clearest conducting and playing, bringing out every nuance of the woodwinds, showing the tender and noble sides in Bruckner's powerful music....Perfect balance, not only fanfares of doomsday, but the song of the earth, with its rustling forests and chirping birds and murmuring winds. And the gentleman becomes young, conducting in this minimalistic way that represents the highest aspects of humanity..... I know he is in a better world now, but thank you, Maestro, and thank you all for this inspiring experience and all the others. Here Bruckner freaks like me can find the ultimate justification of the PPP as well as the FFF of the church organ playing transferred to the full orchestra. Thank you again!!!

His technique is amazing -- 0:02:38: he alternates between conducting the quarter note triplets of the low strings and the basic 4/4 of the high strings. The orchestra knows, so tempo and metrum are absolutely clear to everybody.
Klemperer will be unforgotten with his recording of Bruckner 6th. Wand has the courage to let the timpany of the final of the first movement sound dramatic, great.
My goodness this is great listening! It's the bees knees as far as I'm concerned with the greatest respect to Maestro Otto Klemperer who's own interpretation is also excellent
Most than every composer, Bruckner needs perfection. This symphony is the most difficult because it is between the first part of the effort of the Master with many quests and the last three masterpieces. Here a a wonderful life and a great engagement of musicians to answer the ask of a great specialist. One can add that it is obviously the orchestra which gives Wand the best collaboration in Bruckner.
Echt bewundernswert!
For years the Klemperer/Philharmonia recording of this symphony has been the standard for me and I couldn't really enjoy other renditions. Well This wonderful rendition by Wand/NDR stands with that classic in my opinion. Thanks for this video NDR Klassik!!
Notice the 5. and 15. bar of the trio (scherzo). It's the same as the first theme of the allegro in the 5. symphony. "Everything is connected", as Sir Andras Schiff would say.
This is only about the tenth time I have watched this particular performance. Gunter Wand and the NDR never let you down in Bruckner or Schubert! I do wish your audio engineers could hype the sound. I am currently stranded in Washington, DC on the top floor of a condo. When the brass enters, I would like to try to blow the roof off. That will require louder audio! I continue to appreciate the NDR as I work my way through your Bruckner archives. All the Best!
Do you know the definitive answer to the question as to who was the best composer in the late Romantic period, Brahms or Wagner? Of course, the definitive answer is ANTON BRUCKNER!!!
I like Wand but the slow movement in this performance seemed to be taken too fast in places: there's a Jochum version of [just] the 2nd movement (with an unidentified orchestra*) on TH-cam that to me comes over as less-hurried, but I'm probably in a minority: it's heresy to criticise Wand. * later identified as the N.D.R. S.O.
Why would it be? Taste is not to be discussed, is it. We are happy about every single respectful and differentiated comment here - may it be critical or not. :)
Bruckner in az bilinen ama önemli senfonilerinden. Senfoni. Epey zamandır konsere gitmiyorum. Kötü akustikler ve yorumlar beni sıkmaya başlamıştı. Artık internetle böyle müthiş yorumlara ulaşabiliyoruz.
Bruckner‘s symphonies is my soulful friend
Each wand Bruckner is a masterpiece. Underrated conductor. Genius.
Bruckner, Bruckner and then, when you think you've heard enough, more Bruckner.
Gary Lachman story of my life
It is my motto, absolutely ❤️
Straight to Bruckner.
Wunderbar ! Danke aus Frankreich !
Incredible persona this conductor. AND THAT AFTER WEEKS OF REHEARSALS. This was Gunter Wand. A great Brucknerian.
Absolutely!!!
The most beautiful adagio of all the Bruckner Symphonies.
I have always thought that too, it contains some of the most profound music ever composed.
This is class Bruckner playing in every department. A gorgeous sound. And possibly the greatest, most underrated symphony in the classical repertoire.
I sense a hearing of this by Leonard Bernstein in his youth………‘There’s a place……’
Bruckner+Wand- So und nicht anders :-)
Anton Bruckner, Günter Wand und das NDR-Orchester - eine einmalige Symbiose!! Atemberaubend schön 😊😊
Vielen herzlichen Dank!! 😊

I have this one in addition to 5, 7, 8 & 9 on DVD. All of the performances are top rate.
A great performance by a great conductor and orchestra of a great masterpiece by one of the greatest composers. Apart from that it's pretty good too.

The timpanist's entrance ain't too shabby either;)

For me one of the best Bruckner 6th, only to compare with the famous Klemperer recording.

I've always preferred Bruckner to Mahler's neurotic music. Anyone else the same?
Definitely. I enjoy Mahler if I'm in the right mood but I couldn't live without Bruckner, especially Bruckner conducted by Günter Wand.

I think Mahler's symphonies are "greater"-- more original, groundbreaking, varied-- but I prefer Bruckner's symphonies

The composer dedicated this symphony to his landlord. I wonder if he got a discount on his rent or at least no rate increase.
