Isn't the southbridge very sensitive to having any liquid (alcohol and especially flux) under it? You have to flush all the flux out and dry the alcohol after too. If you have an oscilloscope you can monitor the output of the crystal oscillator.
99% alcohol is harmless as it is nonconductive and evaporates fast. Flux can make it slide and is also non-conductive, and as it is not close to the HDMI port, it shouldn't be affected in the slightest. Handling the PCB is very important and one with little experience can turn an easy fix into an impossible fix
Phil, have you looked into how much it would cost to advertise? I'm not sure if you live in an urban or rural area but if its more urban, you have the opportunity to make so much more money and make more videos. Its because you can advertise that you do the repairs on TH-cam and people can see their console on there and see what you do to them. Plus your one of the best techs on TH-cam. So they can feed each other.
I could see that. I'm just saying, your good enough to get really decent business. Plus your like northwest repair. He does graphics cards and stuff. You both don't give up until you know you've tried absolutely everything. But I get it. Better to not be too overwhelmed if you comfortable with the amount you do now.
@danielhulan3058 yeah I could definitely drum up more business if I tried hard enough. My problem is I have to find enough time to edit videos, process orders and repair consoles so I need to try and keep a healthy balance. Plus I've been taking more time off for myself recently too 😀
I mean ive been paying attention and literally every code in UART is in there with your name attached. Youve put all the work in for all techs who do this stuff. They have an easier job because of you doing a lot of the diagnostics (when UART is involved). Not to take away from what they do. Like Joey Does Tech is an amazing tech too. Hes just as good, even if hes too humble to say it lol.
@danielhulan3058 thanks buddy. I didn't get the UART codes though. It's my website so I maintain the database but it's others who get the codes. I just add them to the database lol
Hey phil, I work on these slims a good bit and I have had the same issue with the slim not powering on after an HDMI repair. I did all the diagnosing and could not find the issue but then when I tried the next day to turn it on, it came on like nothing ever happened. Not sure what the cause of this was but maybe you will have the same result.
All these PS5 consoles your getting in to repair is crazy to me. it leads me to thinking that alot must be user errors i'e dropping them water damage etc etc. i'm still using my day one PS5 with no issues maybe i got lucky or maybe it's down to looking after it every 6 months giving it a dam good cleaning inside and out.
hey phil i got a ps5 for $120 on fb marketplace the console turns on checked the hdmi port looks great checked the pins with my microphone look good tested around the hdmi chip nothing stands out Also When i plug in the hdmi cord the lights turns off like if theres a short i have an hdmi cable with lights on them also it had a lightning strike i checked other videos that take me to the zeners but i checked them to seem not to be shorted
Hiya mate, I must ask as I'm a big fan & heavy user of retro Xbox such as the 360.. Whether you have ever mended one of those? That is a dream video of yours for me to see plus it'd be something new for the channel! Im sure if you look around you could find plenty of old, used & mega cheap 360's to repair 🙏🏼
Hello i am trying to fix a ps3 Slim power supply changed the fuse it was ruined, but every time i conected to power the power board on house was going down. i noticed with multimeter that the AC 2 pins are in continuity beeping i removed the conector but the power supply board still beeps can any one help?»
Do you reply to the messages on the shop website tried asking if you can change a chip on a 3d printer mother board , let me know if your interested mate
if I had to guess, I'd say they're probably smaller and more prone to overheating and GPU failures and stuff, and process tech seems the same, so maybe that. Can't wait to see ps5 pros lol
Check for shorts around the SVB IC, top side of the board near a large coil directly to the left of the bottom of the APU. I’m wonder if it’s the same problem computer booter had that I ended up also having?
Waste of time. I always charge a small fee for a non-repair if it's been worked on previously. An easy fix can become an impossible fix after previous work has been done. Hate these types of jobs. Thanks for the video
I know that easy to hard fix feeling... Could be worse. I just took in a PS5 this morning that was infested with lice.. How's that for a buggy system!! Great birthday surprise for myself 😂😂😂
After Xbox 360 I refuse to work on anything newer, most of it is complete garbage not worth the time or energy. Maybe a reball or something but if you have to hunt and wade through redundant circuits to find the 1k ohm resistor not behaving you’ve probably spent hours searching for. I don’t work for free so I refuse and move onto more rewarding projects. Just nearing my Lava RGB NES install with multi out plug, proper CIC disable, Ext. Audio mod and new red led. Simple for me? Yes. Rewarding? Yes. Waste of time? Not at all. 🎉 at the end of it all, do what you love and lose yourself in it. ❤
34:00 The last wire UART you soldered as GND seems just isolated area. Check it please twice. Don't be so sure u soldered it right as GND, check it please with multimeter. On PS5 there is such isolated areas looking as GND.
You popped to your cherry on a PS5 slim 😂 nice repair attempt you can’t win them all yeah, I’ve been seeing a lot of slims lately but only for HDMI repair 👨🔧
I've had my Slim for a year now. Maybe my system is an anomaly but I've never had problems outside of glitches. That Horizon Zero Dawn Remaster is glitchy.
I would not normally wacth videos like this but really enjoyed it. Great Video and great work 👍

IPA not super conductive but best let dry / evaporate

Yeah but I'll be honest I'm quite content with not getting overwhelmed with jobs. I used to get 100+ a week and it sent me crazy lol

I don't have a slim open at the moment but the pad you soldered your ground wire to looks like an isolated alignment pad and not ground.
It could be yeah. I did try it off cam too though and the southbridge isn't initiating uart. I'll be revisiting it next week though

As Always, you did your Best. Great Repair Attempt, and Video! Good Luck. Thank you.
I would love to see a video where you gives tips on how to avoid corrupting the PS5.

You make it look easy !
Yeah it's not as easy as it looks though. It just takes practice
Great video you did and informative. Excellent. Those capacitors that were missing could block it down maybe

I wonder if the southbridge has gone south and died completely as you can’t get uart codes or does uart not work that way
So cool, i would love to be able to solder but i cant even fix a PSP power jack that only has to 2 pins.
What exactly do people do for the HDMI connector to break off?
I have the exact same, remember I mentioned to you over the phone, very odd mate
Clever stuff!...👍
um yeah the screws are ment to be torx screws for the clamp
Nice vid bro you will get him next time 👍🏾
Hello, i have get PS5 slim with same issue ... i have replaced the RT5126GQW then back to life again
Lab is looking tidy!
Good job .strange one
Phil, please switch the wires. The orange wire should go to the upper pad. Now it is Tx-Tx and Rx - Rx... XD
I did buddy but still no change. I just kept it out the edit lol
I might have order a square meter circuit board just to hang on the wall. $120 is cheap for art
Yep indeed. I never thought of doing that. I might do it myself lol
Bad man 🐐 🙌🏼🤴
I love your videos brother great work
Surprising this is your first one
Yeah I should start seeing more now though

Ah, now I can see why you're TheCod3r. I didn't completely realise was UART was.
Seems odd as to why such a new console would fail like this. Are the slims less reliable than the original?
if I had to guess, I'd say they're probably smaller and more prone to overheating and GPU failures and stuff, and process tech seems the same, so maybe that. Can't wait to see ps5 pros lol
Check for shorts around the SVB IC, top side of the board near a large coil directly to the left of the bottom of the APU.

Great video again but I prefer the lives.
So did you fix it in the next few days, or just give up?
PS5, vertical or horizontal?
It doesn't matter

Hi phil
Hey buddy:)
Some you win, some just give you grief!!
Yep indeed lol
You connected uart ground wrong m8
They should put a UART socket on motherboards
Good vid shame on the result tho
you make reballing look easy but i'm sure it's not
You popped to your cherry on a PS5 slim 😂 nice repair attempt you can’t win them all yeah, I’ve been seeing a lot of slims lately but only for HDMI repair 👨🔧
These new PS5’s are horrible to be honest. I’ve worked on a couple and they just die
I've had my Slim for a year now. Maybe my system is an anomaly but I've never had problems outside of glitches. That Horizon Zero Dawn Remaster is glitchy.
Hello, I sent you an email about ps5 slim ssd , I would be happy if you check it
Already dead?
Yes, the ssds were broken@@christopherbolis2048
No problem. I'll keep an eye out for it and respond soon :)
