    Thedford RV Toilet How to replace a leaking valve
    It seems the Thedford RV toilets are notorious for leaking and we recently found that ours was leaking at the top of the valve.
    Here are the Thedford model numbers that have the same valve that we just replaced.
    Thedford RV Toilet Product SKUs: 31652, 31671, 31687, 31663, 31679, 31695, 31653, 31672, 31688, 31664, 31680, 31696, 31685, 31650, 31661, 31693, 31686, 31651, 31694, 31662
    The replacement part is Thedford 31705 which comes with the valve and a replacement seal for the RV toilet drain:

    Supply line👉🏻 amzn.to/3vZgHzR
    Shut off valve👉🏻 amzn.to/3soyrCA
    Pipe cutter👉 amzn.to/3NiwDFK
    This was a pretty easy job with very basic tools. If you decide to install a shut-off valve as I did in the video you can grab those parts at a local home center. If not, DO NOT cut the supply line like I did since you will need to reuse it to connect to your toilet again.

      I'm going to change mine out next week.
      Once in awhile the bowl starts to fill with water, so I'm assuming that the valve isn't closing completely at times.
      Thanks for sharing this video, I was sure that it wasn't going to be too hard.
      Take care and stay safe.

    So the exact same thing happened to our toilet during a major vacation. We happened upon a camping world and got the part and thanks to you and your video we put it back together. Mind you, we are not mechanical people, but thanks to your video our vacation is not ruined and we are enjoying our repaired toilet! Thanks so much for putting this video together! We are currently in Missoula Montana...🇱🇷🇱🇷🇱🇷👍👍👍🐻🐻🐻

    Thank you, words cannot express how thankful we are to have found this video. We had a major leak and were having issues trying to figure it out. Watched this video and was able to order the parts from the links and we now have a functioning toilet with no water in our bathroom. You are awesome!

    I came home to a woman in distress because the toilet valve gave way and water was pouring out. She was able to get to the main shutoff valve before it became a crisis. I dialed up your video to see what I was getting into. The Shark-bite valve was a lifesaver allowing us to get the water back on while isolating the toilet until I can get those parts. I appreciate you man! You helped save the day and the little woman gets to wash her hair tonight.

    Very helpful video. The toilet valve was leaking and they didn’t have the part in stock at my local RV supply store. I just installed the Shark Bite turn off valve so that we could still camp and have water except for the toilet. Great thing about RV toilets, you can just add water to the bowl to use it. I ordered the part online and it will be here when we get home. Thanks for the tip of the shut off valve.

    Thank you! I did this repair today with my 12 year old son. Went great and the mod of the shark bite fitting was fantastic. Hopefully I will have learned my lesson and remember to disconnect this fitting for winterizing. This is the best video on how to repair this valve. I really like the idea of putting a shut off the valve just like you have it. I did this technique about 2 years ago on another camper that I own after seeing your video. I just bought a truck camper used and found out that it also has a leaky valve so I am going to have to use the same exact techniques as before. This time I saved your video it took me a little while to find it again. Thank you so much for the great explanation and great tip with the shut-off valve.

    I noticed water in the floor of our Moter Home wet bath and just could NOT figure out where it was coming from plus, I kept hearing the water pump cycling every 15 minute or so.....made me think I had a leak somewhere but never could find it. Then when I got home and had everything turned off but the water pump, because I was cleaning, I heard a hissing sound coming from the back of the toilet. It was spraying a fine mist from the valve in the back. Could put my finger on it and it would stop. Long story short we watched this video, ordered the valve and had it fixed in a matter of minutes. Thank you so much for posting your video.....saved us a lot of time and money.

    Good job. I will say I wear gloves when I work on the toilet, wash when I'm finished and apply sanitizer, (to my hands) when it's wrapped up. I thought I had a leak but in the course of clearing a stoppage I discovered the water was leaking between the toilet and the floor, at the foam ring when I was over filling the tank trying to flush out the accumulated toilet paper. I will have to take it up and replace the foam ring and while I'm at it I'll replace the water valve and the blade valve. Apart from the gloves and useing water pump plyers instead of a wrench you did a nice job. Thanks and thumbs up.👍

    Thank you so much. We have a 1974 Yellowstone Capri with a Thetford Toilet. Our first trip and we didn't now the valve was broken in the back. PLUS we had a leak in the water line going to the sink. Whoever repaired the water line used back tubing and a couple of hose clamps. Yeah, this didn't work. I forgot about the SHARKBITE connectors. I will be using this tomorrow night to do the repairs. We can go camping again with water hookups! :) THUMBS UP!

    I cant tell you how opportune this video is!!! We hadnt used our new RV yet, did a trial run before going on the road and there's a leak in the toilet. THANK YOU THANK YOU!!! sooo much for making this video. My husband is NOT super handy, but i dont think I give him much credit, because he's starting to figure out things and fixing them! I'm the one who's always done the appliance repairs, the plumbing, the electrical etc etc. in the past, but I'm tired of it (and I'm older 🤣). 35 yrs of marriage.....and I'm in love again hahaha. No really, this video AND THE FILMING (ty very much) were excellent.
    When you says Pex at the end, you meant the Shark Bites part? I assumed you just have Pex on your tongue and use it as a generic reference.

    @austinroberson8 3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

    Great tutorial! I had to cap mine off while camping. The threads at the bottom were cracked. Great idea about adding a shut off valve. Why the manufacturer doesn't do that is crazy, considering their buying power and how easy PEX is to use. If my trailer leaked and ruined my floor I wouldn't be buying from that manufacturer again.

    Very helpful. Thank You for Sharing. Great Job. If you have an older rv with polybutylene (grey) water supply line Flair-it makes a great white plastic valve that you can connect grey to in and pex (any color) to out, poly is same outside diameter as 1/2" pex pipe but slightly larger inside diameter but flair-it works with either perfectly. Mix or match. Just use arrow on valve to match water flow direction. Been using flair-it for years and never had a problem.. Sold online and at some Ace hardware stores.

    Thanks for taking the time to make such a 'crappy' video. Just purchased a used RV, replaced the pump only to have the toilet leak. This showed me exactly what I needed. A few parts and a little humility is all it takes. See you out there!

    Exactly what I was looking for, as ours has been leaking for some time now! Oddly, finding the part, it seems most come from China, so it may be a wait to get one! Appreciate showing us that it's not excessively difficult to change, especially with me being a 'fix-it' kind of guy, with lots of tools!

      Can you use silicone to do a short term repair? I’m a single lady; just starting out & I have had my RV fit a little over a year now. This is the first real repair I’ve needed to do. However, I’m not any where confident enough to tackle this on my own. So I was hoping to use some water proof tape or silicone if some sort. Thanks 🙏🏼 so much !

    Thanks for the tutorial. I managed to change the valve without removing the toilet. Knees a bit stiff…
    With mine (hand-flush model), I had to hold the handle as if flushing to position the little hole to align with the kinked wire. I’m no plumber so your instructions were helpful.

    Thanks for a great professional explanation, I also have a Thedford ( Thetford? ) toilet in my RV. t is a different model than the one your fixing and that valve is leaking down from the bowl. I'm a retired Master Electrician and I noticed that you are using the Channel Lock pliers backwards. Please don't be pissed at me for mentioning this , but they work away better the other way around. Sorry, Terry Southgate.

    • @RVLivingYet
      @RVLivingYet  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hey Terry thanks for watching the video, I hope it helped. I too am a former IBEW electrician and also a general contractor, I was waiting for someone to mention the channel locks, it was just such an easy connection they would work either way LOL.

    Great video, thanks. we were able to do the repair easily. The only thing that has posed an issue is the supply line that you suggested. It seems different than the one in your video and has only a few threads the will connect. We haven't hooked it up yet but are looking for a better product. One similar to what you used. Love the shark bite valve. Thanks.

  • @marcmarini4033

    Channel locks are directional tools, they'll work better for you if you flip them over (you're using them in the wrong direction in the video). A small dab of silicon grease on the o-ring may make it easier to slide the valve into the fill line. Thank you for the video, very helpful
