    These words may be repeated, below here, but you made my life 1000% easier with this info. I could not imagine how to remove the pedal from the base and once I did, what you did, with the toilet in place, I had immediate access to the "ball valve" DRIVE ARM, who failed after (God only knows how) many flushes over the past four years! Thank you!!!
    I am keeping the URL for this video to find whatever else you may have to offer us DIY travelers! You are the BEST! :-)

    Huge thank you for this video. Watched the video before we even ordered the parts. The RV toilet is a small space to work in but we tried to replace the water valve and had issue with water running in non-stop after installing the new valve. Re-watched your video and sure enough, had the two pieces together the wrong way.
    Husband always tries anything non electrical and this replacement is a confidence booster for sure. Keep these coming, you are awesome !!!

    I just moved into a used RV I bought. I knew the toilet wasn’t working and the previous owner said I only needed to replace one lice (which he left on the kitchen counter for me to figure out). This morning, I tried fixing it and ended up with a flood. 💩🤢
    After watching this video am I not afraid to tackle this project by myself, but now I am confident in pulling the entire toilet out, taking it outside to clean it and fix it. I’m getting ready to follow you step-by-step. Thank you SO much!

    Timely video for us. Water valve sticking open at times. A light tap takes care of it but one day it won’t. Thanks again for this informative video.

    • @JonesN2Travel
      @JonesN2Travel  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Great to hear it was helpful. Our foot pedal was really sticking, had to pull it up with our foot to close it. After about 6 or so months we finally got around to fixing it :) Thanks for checking out the video. Safe Travels.

    • @acampbell198
      @acampbell198 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Had exact same issue. The problem is whoever is using the toilet has to notice the valve isn’t seated and the water is still running and then give the foot lever the little nudge to close it. If they don’t and your black tank valve is closed…as it should be, we’ll you see where this is going.😳. And that is how I wound up having to pull my under side cover down and replace all of my insulation. Not a fun job; I assure you, rebuilding the water valve is much easier and cheaper. Thank you for the video!👍🏻

    I totally appreciate this video. You helped me out big. Just a note.....in my case, the valve collar didn't sit tight enough. I'm talking about 1/16th or so tolerance. It was enough to cause a bad seal. I put shims in the locking tabs to tighten up the clearance and that did it. But really, WTF? Ah....RV life. never a dull moment.

    Great information and demo.
    I had an RV toilet that water drained from the bowl on its own and the flush valve would stick periodically.
    Well guess what, I couldn't get all the parts, well the way they were packaged and sold was a bit of a scam which would have caused me to buy multiple parts of the same thing. So, I only got the lower and upper rubber/foam seals. I removed all the other parts, cleaned them from water scale etc, reinstalled all items and all is good. So sometimes the parts just need cleaning. Especially when the manufacturers are trying to gouge us.
    My unit is a Winnebago 2011.

    I had trouble with my Thetford Residence toilet. Somehow, sediment got into the water tank probably at the factory and worked its way into the toilet and clogged the orifice that sends the water into the bowl. I drained the water tank and filled it with about two gallons of water and two gallons of straight vinegar. I took the TT (KZ toy hauler) for a ride to agitate the water/vinegar and then let the vinegar break down the sediment, which was probably calcium carbonate. Let it set for a couple of days, drained and refilled tank. This video is probably the best that I've seen. It just seems that these RV toilets are just too overly complicated.

    All great information, I was able to replace everything you went over. But the foot peddle would not stay put. The repair was a fail, the foot peddle groove clip would not hold so it just popped off when it wanted. I will save the ceramic bowl and just replace column next time. • @JonesN2Travel
      @JonesN2Travel  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi Austin. It should pull straight off but you could use something to try and pry it off. The spring that returns the foot pedal is pretty strong and offers quite a bit of resistance. Some actually do break depending on how old the toilet is. Hope that helps. Safe Travels

      @JonesN2Travel Hey there, I used to build these toilets in the warehouse, and I would suggest a silicone based plumbers grease, not spray. You should stay away from petroleum and spray lubricants. Spray lubricants still contain petroleum, and this will damage the seals.

    Fantastic video. I tried doing the job before I saw this. When I put it back together, there was interference between the water valve and the edge of the pedal. Why? Because I didn't insert the valve cartridge into the retainer BEFORE installing the assembly into the toilet cavity! I put the cartridge in AFTER I put the retainer in. It fits fine, LOL.
    So, it was raised up too high and hitting the edge of the pedal. It would have also leaked like crazy, I bet if I tried to apply water.
    The Thetford instruction sheet skims over this crucial fact and just says to "Insert new Water Valve Cartridge Assembly until fully seated." It comes in pieces and the instructions assume someone knows how to reassemble I guess, because it makes no attempt to address assembling it. :-) Thanks for the great video!!!

    This video was very helpful... thanks. But I did have one issue when trying to put the foot pedal flusher back onto the base, it was not easy to do. I did not know exactly where the Spring was supposed to go, and ended up breaking the plastic tab that the spring is bound against. Now I need to replace the whole base rather than just a few parts. What a bummer. I only wish you had showed the three holes on the backside of the foot pedal so that we'd know how to put it back. But otherwise, great video.

    My Thetford Aqua Magic II is beginning to have problems stopping water flow after release of the foot lever. I see how you changed the valve. Which kit is for this and if I have the correct link below, I dont see the small spring and seal in that kit. Do you think the unit could be repaired without removing the toilet? Also, each kit has a large ring. Is that the seal for the base, assuming the toilet would be removed regardless? Well done video. The part where you have to lock the pedal lever parts together could be it's own video. That's my focus presently.

    • @JonesN2Travel
      @JonesN2Travel  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Paul. This kit should have everything you need and yes, the large seal is for the floor flange when you remove the toilet. May be difficult to take apart with the toilet in place. You may need to turn it on its side to get to the bolts that attached the bowl to the base. Hope that helps. Safe Travels

    It worked as you said, yep 10 minutes. THEN I noticed the rubber seal was not centered, started over. And the spring became unloaded. Any ideas? I’m thinking to remove the 2 arms and use the plastic flush devise to recook the spring. Most likely it will take a speciality tool.
    Thanks for the help.

    Excellent video. Ball valve stays open so we have to lift the arm up with a rope. Is there a specific part that I need so I don’t have to take it all apart for a complete rebuild? Just wondering if it could be the spring or if it’s the ball valve gasket. Thank you.

    • @JonesN2Travel
      @JonesN2Travel  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Lyle. It could be the spring under the foot pedal, may be broken, and you should be able to replace it without a full rebuild. If the bowl holds water when the ball valve is closed then your seal is ok. Hope that helps. Safe Travels
