    Another tip... Don't run the bathroom fan while doing this. It will draw up the odors from the black tank while it is open. Thanks for the great video.

    When I first bought my trailer and got it home I noticed there was no water in the bowl to cover the seal. I was and still am a newbie but knew water was necessary to keep the seal from drying out. I added a bit of water and when I checked the next day-no water in the bowl. Not knowing any better, I called the salesman. He said to not worry about it because there did not need to be water in the bowl, the seal would be fine. So, since I wasn’t born under a mushroom, I immediately went to a couple of Facebook groups and asked for information and help. Got several varied replies so I went to TH-cam university. That’s where I learned about plumbers grease and seating the seal. This took care of the leak, but your video is much more informative and I want to thank you.

    Thank you so much for your videos. I am a new travel trailer owner and I couldn’t figure out why my trailer that I just bought this past October was smelling so bad no matter how much I cleaned it. The repair guy I called suggested getting a new toilet from him for 600$ to install since my wasn’t holding water. I did everything you showed in your video. Problem fixed and smell is gone. You are a godsend 😊❤🍻

    Thank you for the tips and video .. I had this issue and I ordered new seals on Amazon they are very inexpensive , in fact I bought a 3 pack of new seals for my Dometic toilet for under $15 .. My toilet was badly clogged and I used the toilet brush to try and clear the blockage , unfortunately the handle on the brush wasn't long enough so I used a broom handle to finally clear the blockage and then I poured hot/warm water into the toilet several times and emptied the black tank and used my black tank flushing hose hook up to try and clear any remaining blockage , and drained my black tank as usual ..This happened when we were out camping , so I found this video very helpful and ordered replacement seals from Amazon right from the campground and they arrived the day we returned home .. Thanks again ..

    Mine started losing water last time out. Ordered a new seal and installed it. It still didn't hold water. After painstakingly removing the toilet and trying to remove the bowl part, I turned it upside down and saw the screws that hold it together. While I was getting ready to get tools, I noticed the pivot point for the valve was out of the hole. Pried it back in with a wrench, turned the toilet over and put water in. No leaks! I left the new seal in. Moral of the story is: try not to let the pedal slip while pushing it down. The return spring is strong and will close very fast knocking the pivot out of whack. It can be easily fixed with the toilet still mounted. Just need a flashlight and a long screwdriver. My tank was empty so no stink. It can be fixed in one breath if not empty. ; - )

    Didn't know that the seal could be replaced so easily on that toilet. Thanks for the information. I also had a problem with a dometic toilet and one of the solutions to taking care of it, it was a new toilet, was to put hot water in there and heat up the seal then the reshape it. After reshaping then let it sit with a bunch of cool water. Once I did that I had no more problems with that toilet the whole time we owned the RV. So not sure if that's a tip to pass long or not.

    Our RV is 15 years old. We have the original toilet with it’s original seal. We are not full timers, so I have to take extra steps to keep the seal in good condition. The seal can dry out, so I try and make sure to always have water in the bowl (RV antifreeze in the winter). I also lube the seal twice a year with synthetic grease. It’s important not to use petroleum based grease. This seems to work for us.

    Question on the 310. Underneath the seal where is goes down towards the floor, the inside is not a smooth surface, but rather a larger opening with a triangle shaped plastic part on both sides that opens the valve. Inside this area it has gotten quite dirty and is all but impossible to clean. Do you have any ideas on how to more effectively clean this area? Any thoughts on this would be greatly appreciated. I’ll be receiving my ordered Jayco Micro TT soon. Jayco starts you with a plastic toilet which we plan on replacing immediately. We were looking at the Dometic 310 as well, but like the elongated looks of the 320 as it’s more like home. Similar costs but evidently not as simple an install. Anyone know why?
    Also I have heard of the Thetford RV toilet seal lube and conditioner. Wonder if anyone uses that and does it help that seal lasts longer?
    Finally, since we are total newbies, on one you tube someone recommended to allow a small amount of water just enough to cover the ball to help maintain the seal and to prevent smells from coming up the toilet from the black tank? Yes or no?

    • @StStvNn211
      @StStvNn211 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes always have at least a small amount of water at all times to prevent air from coming up from your black tank. Also I always leave as much as if you were at home as most people don't use enough water to begin with and it leads to odor. If you have water use it. Last don't bother with all the lemon scented stuff to control odor. Use Borax dissolved in warm water about 1 cup per gallon and use 2 gallons. Then a 3rd gallon with 1/4 cup dawn dish soap. Do this everything you dump you will never smell anything even when dumping. Use half that for your gray as needed for food etc. I take a 1 gallon h2o bottle put in the borax then fill with hot h2o and shake until dissolved. The science behind this can be found by looking into the "geo" method rabbit hole
