The best thing about Chef Yeung’s recipes is that there’s none of this highly processed fake meat stuff which has so many chemicals in it. Just natural ingredients and highly achievable cooking methods.

Hi Will this video brought me back when i was growing up ... my mom makes this in the 70's till i was in univertsity, but she use a softer tufo and its salty and delicious eaten with fried rice in the morning breakfast just alot of onions and garlic... like you said this is a way to have a cheaper meals... I lost my mom last February and i am remembering all she did brilliantly in life.. i miss her😋😋😍😍🙏🙏🙏🙏

I tried this recipe tonight for dinner! I drained/pressed the tofu and skipped the baking step, adding directly to the pan. I also added cooking sake/mirin to the tomato mixture and a tiny splash of soy sauce to the broccoli instead of salt. I don't have the Indian black salt so i tried a sprinkle of white pepper for the tofu. Turned out absolutely amazing, and so easy to prepare

Prepared the "Inspired Childhood Classic" last evening. It more than meets it's billing. The rich colours on the plate and obvious balanced nutritional content of the dish are gratifying. The combination of turmeric and black salt are new to us and combined with the vine tomato sauce provided layers of satisfaction and positive comment. Thank you very much and congratulations on your You Tube success.

We used to have something a lot like this when I was a kid. The spicing was different, and my mom put it over toast instead of rice. I know it would be good with rice too though. The black salt is what made it though, and since it was very hard to get black salt where we lived back then, it was always a very special treat. I'm going to try it this way. I bet it will be fantastic!
By the way, it is important to make sure you are getting Himalayan black salt. There are other types of black salt out there, but they aren't the same. The thing that makes this, and similar dishes taste so good is the sulphury flavour. Himalayan black salt has a lot of sulphur, and a lot of people say it smells like rotten eggs. I have never smelled a rotten egg so I can't say if it does or doesn't, but it does have a very distinct smell to it which (if you have the real thing) will be impossible to miss. If your local grocery store doesn't have it, check your local Indian grocery. It is a cooking staple in Indian cooking, and in the cooking of all countries which include the Himalayan Mountains within their borders. Get some, and try it with this Recipe of Wil's. You won't regret it.

Wil, that is so simple, it would be perfect for a beginner cook - and yet you can tell from the ingredients that it's going to taste delicious. I already have the black salt in powdered form (they call it kala namak and sell it in the world foods aisle of my supermarket, which is a great place to look around), so I'm really pleased about that! Thank you for another fascinating video, made with love. You seem like a bit of a perfectionist because you care so much about the viewing experience and I really appreciate this about your channel.

Lay ho ma, Wil! This recipe is REALLY very simple, and quick, too! Black salt ( kaala neemak) can be purchased at any Indian grocery store. It usually comes in small packets. I'll make this tomato-tofu dish later. 😍🙏❤

    • @victrola2007

It's one of my favorite dishes so how can I not make it today with all in my fridge?! Here I sat, contemplating lunch, holding two gouret precious packets of black (volcanic, thus sulphur scent) salt thinking about what to make next. For those with no access to Indian stores, check TJ Maxx,Marshalls, Ross and World Market - ALL carry reputable brands at ridiculous prices. 🤞👍😎
I've always LOVED this dish. It's sadly a rare treat for me, (another person with surprisingly common CBS genetic anomaly - Sulphur and FLUOROQUINOLONES drugs intolerance 👿🤷🏻‍♀️🤦‍♀️). Still, today I'll brave it! 😂🎉🥰❣

I love Indian black salt, most common in the Indian kitchens, generally used in most of the cookings, esp in fruit salads or more. You seem to be a perfectionist, talk only what is required, no messy talk, focus on cooking, that' it. Cooking is fun, but a responsibility too. Food is not only for the body, it's meant ot be for soul as well.

I think he wants to create relaxing videos with an artistic side, and also a bit ASMR-like. Indeed it inspires us to give food the spiritual dimension that it has. In too many other videos people try to be so happy that they are yelling instead of chilling. I also don't like those short videos where they show all the ingredients practically thrown one by one and with big noise, feels too violent to the spirit.

A quick tip - this 'sulphur' flavor egginess may be helped with addition of nutritional yeast (a common trick by vegans who crave eggs and substitute tofu). Black salt's easily found in TJ Maxx, Marshalls, Ross, World Market food sections for amazing prices 🥴😻.

I can't help but think of my old stand by with the eggplant. It's a Krishna recipe (originally calling for paneer) that I adapted to utilize tofu because paneer is so high in fat (already accounting for fried eggplant). I buy a smallish eggplant, cut it in big chunks and fry it, then remove from the pan and drain on paper towels. Then, I drain out most of the oil, but reheat what is still in the pan to toast a couple teasp. of black mustard seeds. I prep a big bowl of chopped fresh tomatoes (about five beefsteaks) and when the mustard seeds pop, throw in the tomatoes to stop them from potentially burning. (Can add a little minced gingerroot and/or some minced green chili.) I use about a teaspoon of turmeric and a teaspoon of garam masala and about the same of salt. Then, I add in a block of tofu, extra firm, in chunks, and put the eggplant back into the mix and let everything simmer for awhile. The black salt also will go well with this recipe! I also use a little asafoetida (also kinda sulfuric) when I am toasting the mustard seeds. It can be hard to find (Krishna folks don't use garlic or onions.)

I need to elevate mine I'm just such a lazy cook. Sometimes I really enjoy it other times I just can't be bothered but in the end a little effort goes a long way to a delicious meal.
