One tip I can pass on after making lots of lentil and vegetable patties and fritters over the years is to chill the patties for a bit before adding the breading. 30 minutes in the fridge or 15 minutes in the freezer helps to prevent the patties from falling apart when they hit hot oil. These are delicious and easy to make. My bean-hating family members raved about these because they didn’t taste beany. High praise indeed.

Lay ho lay ho! The other night, my son asked me why I have been cooking vegan food lately. I spared him the part about how amazingly much better I feel over the course of the day, and instead told him how tired I am of cooking the same American meals over and over. Learning about veganism has really broadened my view of the world…it’s taken me to nearby Asian supermarkets I knew nothing about, and introduced me to ingredients like jackfruit that I never heard of before. I adore the different flavors and at 63, it is really good for me to be learning this wonderful, healthy, environmentally-sensitive, cruelty-free cuisine. I only wish I had done so sooner. Thank you!
I can smell it here, I'm watching and swallowing, My hubby lives for chickpeas, I will definitely make those. Super as always. A tip from an old lady: when boiling potatoes for mash, add a couple of strings of your favorite herb and one green onion + salt/pepper. When potatoes are ready, mash them with the flavored water they were cooked in. I do not add any butter or oil to it. Do not discard that water, you also can make a soup with it.😘
Yes! Want to add I learned years ago from my husband’s Mennonite mother to barely cover the potatoes with water and save the boiled potato water, pour out to gradually add back when mashing. She’d drink the boiled potato water if any left. Lol, I’ve acquired the same habit. As I’m plant based, I add unsweetened organic soy milk a bit of vegan butter & some white pepper during the mash, and it’s delicious! (Also we’d wait to wash the potatoes after cutting out any eyes and minimal peeling, then cut up and good rinse to help remove extra starch/dirt.). As a former meat eater of roast beef and bratwurst with mashed potatoes, I’d dare say that my plant based version is even tastier! But will definitely try adding some herbs & a green onion next time.
As someone who makes all kinds of lentil fritters, i can tell you don't need the excess flour batter for frying. Just reduce the amount of mashed potato in the mixture(which makes it soft) and maybe add some chickpea flour(besan) in the mixture if you have, that itself would make it very crispy. But anyway it's always a delight to watch your videos and your polite presentation is very calming.
Great tip. I had a similar thought as they looked a little soft to me as well. Great recipe though. We can all tweak it to our personal tastes. Another dish to keep us as Yeoung, healthy and satiated!
I never realised how much of your food I make regularly until I went back through your videos - I found your channel in university back in 2018 and cook at least 1-2 of your dishes every week, sometimes more! They have just fallen into my weekly meal pattern. Some may see it as just food, but you certainly have brightened up and brought such beautiful flavour to my life that I enjoy everyday! Thank you so much!
I'm type 2 diabetic and these make for a very filling lunch that doesn't spike my blood glucose outside of safe range even with the potato and small amount of flour. It's very hard to find a recipe that keeps the fast carbs in check while still tasting good. The dip makes an excellent dressing for the green salad I paired it with. Yum! Thank you!
Thank you for your input, I was thinking that I would try making them with more of an Indian flavour, as I’m not really a fan of any type of Paprika! ❤
I found out about this video from a friend who I ran into at the grocery store. I decided to listen to the video on my drive home…man, is this soothing! Calming voice, beautiful music! I’m home now and will sit and watch it…I’m guessing it’s beautiful!
Good suggestion. These patties looked yummy until I saw the amount of oil they were cooked in. Too much fat, far too many calories. Less healthy for the amount of oil.
Not only is the food comforting, but the video is sooooo soothing & calming. Thank you for keeping us inspired with your artistry in cooking & videography!
OH MY GOODNESS!!! I just made this for dinner tonight. Did not have the sweet paprika so we used coriander. Then my husband put some of his @kickin cowboy@ seasoning and instead of cayenne (to hot for me) we used Hatch green chili powder and I used Besean flour. Wil!!!! These came out amazing!!! Very reminiscent of Somoza. Thank you so much for this recipe!!
Halfway through watching this video I KNEW I was going to make these! They look absolutely delicious, and I love how simply you explained everything. Then you bit into it…and that “crunch” just sealed the deal for me.😄
Thank you so much Chef Yeung. We are attempting a plant based diet. Part of it is lowering cholesterol without statins, another part is I have arthritis. I’ve learned so much from you! I watched this video, and was so excited I went and made them immediately! They're like a cousin to falafel, almost, and the seasoning choices used are really great. I'll me making them again! Thanks so much.
These would pair very well with cucumber salad and black bean soup. I am very happy with your shallow frying technique. It is so much easier to dispose of that quantity of oil as opposed to cleaning out a deep fryer. And these will just hit the fibre content out of the park. Thanks for a great recipe!!

❤ I Just made these about an hour ago. They taste great. I'd probably use different seasonings next time for a different flavor, but otherwise they turned out great. I think mine were a little bit bigger lol which might be why they would try to fall apart in the wet batter going back to the dry. I would Definitely make these again. My son enjoyed them also 😊
So I made Chole [indian chickpea curry] today and some chole left over. I used your recepie and chik pea from chole [minus gravy] to make the fritters!! It turned out amazing!!! Thanks for the recepie 😊

I made these with sweet potatoes with both the frying method and the oven...I did baste the oven with oil as I don't have a spray oil. Both were delicious although I loved the crispiness of the oil fried but that is personal taste. A hit and will be made again! Thanks for always adding your additional recipe links with.

Make two additional dips 1. Cilantro dip made with lots of cilantro in blender vinegar a tip of water sugar and fresh garlic , It is fantastic . 2.The second dip is made with tamarind . Tamarind vinegar ground cumin sugar water fresh garlic pepper sauce or chili flakes cornstarch to thicken on stove then served . Also fantastic as a dipping sauce .
I can really see the samosa/falafel/croquette similarity here. I can also see the potential for variation too. My potatoes grew in abundance this season so I am happy to have another great recipe to try out. Like others maybe mentioned, these would be a fun addition to the festive season. I don't doubt that these will be a hit. Looking forward to making the first batch. I suspect they will disappear quickly. 😁

Tonight was my 3rd try at these. I boiled 2 red potatoes in veggie broth, cut the spices and onion in half, mashed it all together verrry smooth almost pureed then rolled into little balls and fried air fryer for 10 minutes at 400° spraying with avacado oil and turning half way through with a 2nd coat of spray. I also used an altered dip sauce recipe, a standard dill lemon dip sauce with coco june brand yogurt that had sit to flavor meld for a few days before this 3rd attempt and ohuhmyuhGod !...it's perfection!!! Thank you, Sir. Another winner you give us so freely!!❤🎉
What I truly love about your recipes is how simple they are. I know that I can make them. And they are made with ingredients that I often have on hand. Thank you. This I will make for lunch today.
I just made these but made them patty size and baked them in the oven. I added some heat with chili flakes and had one in a sandwich with pumpkin soup. Perfection! This is my new burger recipe.
My kinda food! YUM Chickpeas are already on my grocery list and this I will be making. Also love the gas range, cast iron, beautiful earthenware... the simple implements before everything became digital. Great instruction, videography & calming vibe. Thanks!
Ooh looks yummy! I think I will try half white potato and half sweet and add some ginger. Really economical too, which is very important to many at the moment. Thank you 😊
I made these a few days ago and I fried some and baked some. I prefer the baked ones better and so did my family. The flavor was great and the cayenne pepper gave it a nice kick. I will try different seasonings next time to see how they come out.
Wow. I was thinking about the baked version too. Did you add a little oil to yr baking tray or did you just place them in the oven with no oil? I would like to try these today baked with the sweet potato substitute.
All the ingredients I love! Your explanations and the visuals were heartfelt; I know you love to eat and cook what you love. I will make it asap after my next stop at the market!
I made this recipe and the dish was delicious! I did have a hard time incorporating the spices into the onion first, so I had to restart with another onion and then added the spices to the potato and chickpea mix instead. I also used an air fryer with just a coating of olive oil instead of the deep fry. I tried making just one with the coating in the air fryer, but it didn't work. The fresh cilantro makes the dish, it works so well with all of the other ingredients. I made a vegan chipotle dipping sauce to accompany the fritters and they were so good! Thanks for the recipe.
That looks Deliciously awesome. I'm definitely gonna make this very soon. Thank you for not speaking fast, as English is my 3rd language. Your instructions are clear and simple for everyone to understand...I can do this 😁....Un milione de grazie❤
This is my first time watching your videos and I feel so connected to you, as crazy as that sounds. I love the way you caress food and describe you fritters as "adorable". I also look upon certain foods as my friendly companions, just as you do. I love chickpeas and can't wait to try this recipe. Thank you for sharing a healthy lifestyle. Happy holidays to you and your loved ones.
Thank so much for your videos! Your recipes are delicious! What type/brand of fry pan are you using? Or if you already have a video that lays out your standard go-to kitchen equipment can you post a link? Thanks so much! 😊
Will be making them with the sweet potatoes I have and try air frying half the batch. This looks delish and would be a great "base" for other recipes for vegans and vegetarians... Thanks so much Chef, GENIUS!!
I'm gonna use ordinary potatoes and do a 50/50 air fryer and deep fry....just in case, possibly a bit of cornstarch to the flour for air fryer option ?
I have some similar recipes. I usually leave the skin on the potatoes, for more flavor (I think) and texture. I greatly admire your self-discipline...I probably would have eaten several of the fritters before frying! ;D 👍👍👍
For extra crispiness on fried foods (where you are using wheat flour) take a tip from South Asian cooks and use some Besan (brown chickpeas) or Chickpea/Channa flour (white chickpeas). Both are good for frying but don't substitute one for another in recipes where you are not seeking crispy fried results.
Watching & listening to you is a delight. I will try doing these with riced cauliflower instead of mashed potatoes to make this lower in carbs. Cauliflower & onion are one of the greatest food combinations so I think they'll come out great.
Cauliflower and onion are used in pakora, which is really similar to this. It doesn’t need to be riced. You can make a batter with chickpea flour and dip the vegetables in the thick batter, scoop florets and onion slices mixed into it, and deep fry

Looks great. I think I will try baking them instead of dredging and frying. Won’t be as crispy but after Thanksgiving I need to skimp on the calories! 😂
Air fryer......I have done so many experiments with my air fryer vs. many traditional cooking methods. Hands down..... air fryer is the best. Quicker... no need for oils and the meat fat drains into drip pan.
They look amazing! I'll probably make them more in the oven but I could see doing some fried as well. I bet these freeze well (before you coat and fry).
I can tell you truly enjoy eating this!😀 What a great dish and dip for this time of year….This will definitely be a part of my dinner New Year’s Eve party 🎉🎉🎉 Thanks Will and Season’s Greetings

I just made these but made them patty size and baked them in the oven. I added some heat with chili flakes and had one in a sandwich with pumpkin soup. Perfection! This is my new burger recipe.
Absolutely 🙌🏻👨🏻🍳 Happy cooking
Totally agree. I love rainbow plant life channel too and love her recipes but they seem to have a lot of steps.
@@sharonkincaid6565 I do too. But I really like simple recipes that I can make easily with ingredients I always have around.
Such a calming, beautiful voice
I just found your channel today. My husband and I injoyed watching you make the meals look so doable and wonderful.
Welcome and happy cooking 🙌🏻
My kinda food! YUM
Chickpeas are already on my grocery list and this I will be making.
Also love the gas range, cast iron, beautiful earthenware... the simple implements before everything became digital. Great instruction, videography & calming vibe. Thanks!
You make cooking so easy, your recipe are awesome! Thank you!
Ooh looks yummy! I think I will try half white potato and half sweet and add some ginger. Really economical too, which is very important to many at the moment. Thank you 😊
Sounds great 🙌🏻
As usual, ABSOLUTELY AMAZING!!! My two favorite things, chickpeas and potatoes!!! You nailed it AGAIN!!! THANK YOU!!! 🙌🏻🙌🏻🙌🏻
Wooo! So glad to hear 👨🏻🍳🙌🏻
Oh my favorite and delicious all potatoes and chickpeas meal forever. Always. Thanks Chef. 😊
I made these a few days ago and I fried some and baked some. I prefer the baked ones better and so did my family. The flavor was great and the cayenne pepper gave it a nice kick. I will try different seasonings next time to see how they come out.
Good you enjoyed them ‘baked’! Thank you for sharing. 😌♥️👍🏽
Wow. I was thinking about the baked version too. Did you add a little oil to yr baking tray or did you just place them in the oven with no oil? I would like to try these today baked with the sweet potato substitute.
@@altheaturner9805 I didn't use any oil. I placed them on parchment paper. If I didn't have that, I would've use oil.
@@JonathanKDeau Thanks. Want to try these baked.
Did you bake them with/without flour on?
Oh I'm so glad I have your photos with all your delicious meals so glad to see.😊
Looks delicious mouthwatering. Your verbal instructions are thorough and voice is soothing
All the ingredients I love! Your explanations and the visuals were heartfelt; I know you love to eat and cook what you love. I will make it asap after my next stop at the market!
These vids are so calming. I love new food ideas and the fact that these are also relaxing makes it next level. This channel is awesome.
Love his gentle approach to cooking and how peacefully he describes making his dishes❤
Thanks for the recipe.
thank you for sharing your experience, I was wondering if I could use an air fryer :)
What temp and for how long in the air fryer? I was thinking of doing the same
I used 375 for about 20 minutes, flipping halfway through. Keep an eye on it as fryers are all different. @@orangesweetness
So much healthier ... Thankyou ... Even just coat base of air fryer pan
The fritters can be eaten baked or fried. Delicious either way. Love this recipe. 👍
👨🏻🍳👌🏻
If they are baked, how long do I bake them for and what temperature. Thanks.
That looks Deliciously awesome. I'm definitely gonna make this very soon. Thank you for not speaking fast, as English is my 3rd language. Your instructions are clear and simple for everyone to understand...I can do this 😁....Un milione de grazie❤
I'd love to try making these in more of a burger patty style, roasted in the oven. Very unique recipe!
Just did it. This is my new favorite burger recipe.
Yummmmm 🤤
❤
how did they come out, from oven? did you you had success? thanks for your answer.
@@tylerbelgrade mine were crispy on the outside and soft on the inside. I turned them over about halfway through.
I really appreciate you always putting the whole recipe in the description!
Also where do you get your music?
My pleasure 🙌🏻 It is licensed from Soundstripe
Looks sooo yummy!! (For me: parsley instead of cilantro, and chives instead of dill. Wonderful!) 😋😊
Sounds great! 👌🏻
I like ypur recipe and will try to make it. As someone said no unnecessary talking but straight to the point. Thanks for sharing.😊🇯🇲
Look solo yummy! Love how he's narrating the instructions to the point while cooking 👍👌
My immediate thought was to air fry also
Great minds think alike. Have you guys tried it already?
@@IHSchwingo Not been able to make these as yet, I'm trying to get over an illness, hopefully next week...
I'm salivating watching this
Great recipe those fritters look amazing. Thank you
They really are! 😁
Such a fabulous idea!!!❤ Really love your videos. Cheers from Blue Mountain Ontario.
Cheers! And keep warm 😌
I’m a new fan - thank you for your great recipes & videos
I have some similar recipes. I usually leave the skin on the potatoes, for more flavor (I think) and texture.
I greatly admire your self-discipline...I probably would have eaten several of the fritters before frying! ;D
👍👍👍
I used leftover baked potatoes and left the skin on. They were so good in a sandwich.
WOW, those fritters are so wholesome and hearty. I absolutely need to make those in the near future.
🥳🥳🥳
These fritters look so good! You have such a pleasant, soothing voice. 🙂
Great recipe, thanks. The dip looks lovely too, and perfect to use up some left over dill
👌🏻👌🏻👌🏻
For extra crispiness on fried foods (where you are using wheat flour) take a tip from South Asian cooks and use some Besan (brown chickpeas) or Chickpea/Channa flour (white chickpeas). Both are good for frying but don't substitute one for another in recipes where you are not seeking crispy fried results.
Thank you for the tip, I had no idea there are 2 types of chickpea flour.
There are many more powdered healthy flours in Asia, than bleached white flour
De Dip us definately healthy ingredients..use more of herbs
I love listening to your voice so calming
Those fritters look too good. I'll try them this week. If successful, they'll be part of my meat-free January. 😋
If you're concerned about carbs replace the white potatoes 🥔 with kumara (sweet potatoes). Cheers
Perfect thank you. Smooth, calming, streight. Must be delicious. I appreciate the still camera video too❤
Just tried this recipe. Delish❗👍 Love your recipes - Please keep them coming, Will❣
Catch you in the next episode 🥳

(Even if someone was unable to see for themselves the beautiful visual of the food and this lovely video, your descriptions would certainly encourage anyone to make these awesome recipes!)
Oh my, all my favorites are back so beautiful and delicious. Yeah. 😊
Looks magnificent! It’s on my list of “to try “ for sure, and soon! Thank you very much chef!!
My pleasure 🙌🏻
Looks great. I think I will try baking them instead of dredging and frying. Won’t be as crispy but after Thanksgiving I need to skimp on the calories! 😂
And it is gluten free up to that point!
Try an Air fryer
Oh my goodness! Imagine these with turkey 🦃 leftovers + cranberry sauce! 😋
Air fryer......I have done so many experiments with my air fryer vs. many traditional cooking methods. Hands down..... air fryer is the best. Quicker... no need for oils
and the meat fat drains into drip pan.
They look amazing! I'll probably make them more in the oven but I could see doing some fried as well. I bet these freeze well (before you coat and fry).
I can tell you truly enjoy eating this!😀
What a great dish and dip for this time of year….This will definitely be a part of my dinner New Year’s Eve party 🎉🎉🎉
Thanks Will and Season’s Greetings
That’s amazing! Hope all enjoys 🙌🏻🥳 Happy holidays
I just made these and they’re AMAZING!!! My daughter who’s pregnant wants the recipe ASAP as she loved them too! Thank you 🙏🏻❤️
So glad to hear! Keep well and happy cooking 🙌🏻👨🏻🍳
A very high level snacks or sides. Truly nice n delicious
Brilliant recipe! Definitely going to give this a try this week (although without the devil leaf)
My sweet granddaughter that lives with me decided she wanted to become vegetarian, so this is all new to me, so I am excited to try this
Thank you, I’ll be making these very soon 🎉 🇬🇧
this looks so delicious , i will try this. this is the most perfect cooking video i have ever seen on the internet. you didn't do too much, talked too much, showed too much it all was perfectly done even the timing of how long you focused on what you were doing was perfect! ill definitely subscribe to this channel.
Oh wow! How kind of you and happy you are here 🙌🏻 Keep well
I can’t wait to make this!
🥳🥳🥳
I tried this. Wonderful flavors! Thanks!!!
Great to hear! 👌🏻🥳
I made this and baked them in the oven, absolutely delicious, thank you for sharing
Great to hear 🙌🏻🥳
Amazing recipe !!
You may try this to reduce few steps and achive the same texture!
Use raw grated potatoes, raw onions, chickpea and the same seasoning. Mix everything. Starch from raw potatoes will help bind it and make it super crispy. Plus no need for breading.
How did these turn out for you ?
Enjoyed the presentation and the fritters look amazing. Can't wait to try your recipe.
Hope you enjoy 🙌🏻
