The issue is the PCMs were originally programmed to default to first gear if there is a loss of output speed sensor signal. The whole purpose of this recall is to recalibrate the PCM to default do a different gear like 3rd or 4th. They are just generous enough to squash any leadframe issues that are found during the time a truck is in for a recall. This reflash will in no way prevent the leadframe from failing down the road. It will just prevent the harsh downshift if a failure occurs in the future. The leadframe can fail a week after a recall is performed on a truck and it will be on the customer to repair. I believe Ford waited so long to come out with the recall on the 2014 so they wouldn’t have to give out the extended 10yr/150k mile warranty like the 2011-2013 to prevent costing them even more money out of their pocket because if you notice this year marks 10yrs for the 2014.
Well I’ve been working on this shit for a long time and I haven’t seen any Fords do that yet almost makes me think Ford would put out this mass reflash recall just to get people in the dealerships try to upsell a new truck
I'd say it's the techs getting left holding the bag. The update probably takes 45 minutes but pays .3 hours. Takes more than .3 just to find the damn truck most of the time.

When you have foreigners instead of Americans do the software programming, this kinda shit happens.
They shipped everything to Mexico and wonder why
