I got into the Universal Century timeline through a PS2 game named Mobile Suit Gundam: Federation vs. Zeon. I adored that game and loved the overall realistic feel of the timeline. However, Gundam Wing will remain my favorite. Excellent work on these videos. This was wonderful.
@@thomasffrench3639 - I don’t believe so. This game is more in-line with you being a grunt in the war, but in the campaign main characters have their cameos.
I started UC on 08th MS, which I enjoyed a lot, and after that I watched Unicorn, which I felt explained itself fairly well, and I didn't have any problem following it, nor have my non-gundam fan friends which I've recommended it to
I started on grainy VHSes of War in the Pocket and Stardust Crusader when I was a wee child, though I didn't know what I was looking at. That and the models they had on display in their rooms whenever I got to visit them. I always had a strange nostalgic feeling about the Wing movie, though I can't remember the first time I saw it. The original compilation movies were my gateway, though. That was when I learned the name Gundam, and when I wanted more.
I started with G Gundam after finding out that the show whom my decade older friends had an in joke about, happened to be directed by Yasuhiro Imagawa, who's work I was becoming a fan of after watching Shin Mazinger, Getter Robo Armageddon, and Tetsujin 28 (2004). I had a ton of fun with it! Looking forward to your video on it and the other timelines!
Technically my first gundam series was Wing. My dad and eldest brother watched it years ago when it started airing in the US. Since then it’s been a staple in our family. While it was my first, I also was curious about the other series and also wanted to find the original series. We took a trip to our local resale store and found the entire first series on DVD. I guess Wing and Mobile Suit kind of overlap each other in terms of first
My first was Iron Blooded Orphans when it was added to Netflix a few months ago Then I watched unicorn and was a little lost tho I guess that's because it's the main timeline
I've been told that as long as you have a veteran fan to answer questions, Unicorn is a pretty good starter into Gundam. But your statement also confirms the confusion I've heard that one will experience if thrown in a lone with no prior context to understand everything that's happening.
My first is The 08th MS Team. Saw it on Hulu. It was pretty good, I may not have seen the original Gundam series, but I was still was able to understand it the war aspect of the story between the Federation and the Zeon. Update: Ok… Now I’ve seen, the OG Gundam compilation movies, Char’s Counterattack, Gundam: The Origin and recently Gundam Hathaway… Boy, it all starts to make so much sense! Now I plan on seeing Unicorn and 0083.
Like many people my age, my first Gundam was Gundam Wing, but my first exposure to the Universal Century was Stardust Memory, which I'm surprised you didn't mention here.
First gundam I have watched and completed is Zeta gundam. Although my first to watch was wing and thought it felt less compelling than Evangelion. But due to the game GvZG's release I became invested to the lore of Zeta Gundam and pretty much backtracked the story for Amuro's side and was pissed off that Ramba Ral died when supposedly in the game, a what if timeline exists where he reaches gryps war era. Of course the release of Char's backstory in origin was great and the spin-offs aforementioned in your video were the icing of UC pre- unicorn. I have always considered Unicorn some sort of timeline splitter and not part of the F91 history due to its space magic time travelling shenanigans and considered it as a separate possibility in the UC timeline continuing into G-Recongista while Victory ending up to become Turn A.
Wow your back man, i cant wait for you to cover all these timelines. Ive been slowing diving deeper into gundam (mainly the UC timeline, as i started with the OG series but ive also watched G gundam and some of wing) and its been very good from what ive seen. The sheer amount of content within the UC timeline tho is very daunting.
Noice, I've been doing a watch of the Gundam series myself. I watched the OG, Zeta, Origin and 08th MS team. I'm thinking about diving into ZZ, but I'm aware of it's polarising image among fans of the series.
Double ZZ is only loosely lighthearted in tone as most fans say it to be. people still die in the show, heck an important character from Zeta dies in the very first episode.
technically my first gundam was IBO, but kinda lost interest in during the first season, but gave gundam the origin a shot and fell in love with gundam
Very helpful video. Started the UC timeline today with the first three movies and your video made me commit to the UC for now. I watched Gundam Wing over 20 years ago and never again touched the franchised, so I'm pretty behind.
0080 War in Pocket is my favorite because it's ending really teared me up. But for any newcomers that wanna get started on Gundam, I think watching Origins is the best way to start, and then watch the 80s movie trilogy of the orginal Mobile Suit Gundam.
My first Gundam was IBO. Definitely not everybody's favorite but I feel like they hit the "holy shit war is goddamn terrible" nail on the head. Also the fights are batshit crazy slugfests with some of the most brutal mecha weaponry I've ever seen. 08th is great so far, and Thunderbolt was a religious experience.
Wing was my first gundam, but after watching a bunch of other AU, and then finally watching UC, I can definitely say that Wing isn't as good as I remember it. I will always preach Gundam Turn A's gospel as being the best timeline and as Tomino's magnum opus
I think Advent of the Red Comet is a good place for new comers to start. If they like Char enough they'll check out every UC series he's in and possibly branch out to more. My first was 083 & Wing, but UC is def my favorite timeline. I like that the tech is based on real science, I appreciate that detail
New Mobile Report Gundam W. That was what introduced me to the series altogether. Despite it being an alternate timeline, it does reverse the roles somewhat. Instead of the Gundams being part of the Earth's side, they are representing the Colonies side and the Earth forces are known as OZ. Majority of the stuff is similar to the original, just a what if scenario to the UC timeline.
My first Gundam is Gundam Wing followed by G-Gundam. But then internet came along, researched, I discovered UC. UC is my favorite timeline, not because it's the prime timeline in the Gundam series. Reason I like it is because of: - cool mecha design - space politics - human evolution - war
Obviously, being a 22 year old anime nerd, I haven't been around long enough to have experienced Gundam since its inception, but sometimes I forget how long I HAVE been watching Gundam shows and partaking in Gundam content. If I recall correctly, my first Gundam show was actually The 08th MS Team. To this day I still hold this as one of the easiest entry points to the series, maybe not from a chronological standpoint, but definitely from a storytelling standpoint since it's really got something for everybody. Action, intrigue, politics, grit, romance, and plenty of mobile suit designs and variations all rolled up into a nice package that's well paced. Not too short, not too long. For someone looking for something more chronological for an entry point into Gundam, I would highly recommend Mobile Suit Gundam: The Origin as the place to start. It's beautifully animated and has a great store that shows the rise of Zeon, and more specifically the Zabi family, to power through the corruption of the Earth Federation and the discontented state of many space colonies. Excellent show, and minus a few retconned elements from the original series, it pretty much leads right up into the events of Mobile Suit Gundam. If you're just a mecha junky and are there more for the giant robot fights then I'd recommend Mobile Suit Gundam: Iron Blooded Orphans or Mobile Suit Gundam: Thunderbolt as obvious choices.
I started with Gundam the origin and I loved it. It's very politic based which some people might not like but 8t was a VERY good interesting story and it made me think (at first) that the Zeon forces were the good guys seeking freedom but then I got confused but later it made sense to me that both sides are doing what they think is right (but the Zeon forces do some acts that make them feel like the bad guys). That made it much more interesting to me since both sides have a clear motive that seems good. You can choose whichever side you think is more good in their cause. I also watched War In the Pocket and that was also VERY good.
My first one was wing but I didn't give that a shot until a few years ago and it is great. Back in 2000 I dropped out after a few episodes when I saw and picked out the first movie for my birthday. I later spent nearly all my birthday money buying the other 2. The original series became and remains my favorite. The story is unmatched. The TV series does have an ending although it's left open what happens to Char.
My first Gundam Series was the 1979 Mobile Suit Gundam. With the UC timeline we have 3 timelines: the original timeline from 1979 Mobile Suit Gundam all the way to Victory Gundam. Thunderbolt which mostly follows the novelization of Mobile Suit Gundam timeline. And lastly the newest the Gundam Origin Timeline which retells the development of both the Federation & Zeon mobile suits (which start in uc 0060's with the Guntank).
Watching despite already having seen the original tv series and Zeta Gundam just cause its always nice to see others perspectives on their intro to gundam. Going to be using this video as a basis to show my fiance gundam!
I started with the first pretty recently when I decided to watch it all for no real reason. I'm up to Gundam X in the AW timeline, but watched all the UC series first. So far I found The Origin to be the best series.
Got my cherry popped by Wing, bought models at gamestop of my favorite mobile suits, stayed up super fucking late to see Endless Waltz. Them as I got older and more interested in the lore and "science" i fell in love with OG 0079, am currently watching everything UC in chronological order, no compilation movies. About to start Zeta
My first was the three gundam movies followed by 08th MS, zeta, skipped ZZ and then Char's counter attack and then war in the pocket after sometime. I feel if someone has a open mind to older anime then the UC older stuff is pretty cool start point
My ideal way to introduce UC Gundam for newbies 1. Mobile Suit Gundam or Gundam: The Origin (manga) 2. War in the Pocket and The 08th MS Team 3. Zeta Gundam (TV series) 4. Gundam ZZ 5. Char's Counterattack
War in the pocket was the second Serious Real Gundam I watched And It got me hooked on watching more of the universal century timeline. Right after watched the first two compilation movies and it was a bit underwhelming It had plenty of good moments but it felt like that any angst or character development is very basic and barley there though it may because I watched the first movie in it's dub. Next was Char's counterattack which I Absolutely love the animation the fights the main conflict all of it.
My first was Gundam 00, then Gundam Wing, G Gundam, AGE, Unicorn and IBO. Stopped watching Gundam X and Turn A after couple of episodes, watched Seed and Seed Destiny on fast forward since I knew the story by playing Cross Rays.
Im more of a macross guy...so the first gundam i saw was G and immediately put it down. it wasnt until i saw promos of 0083 on adult swim that i paid attention. when i found out that a lot of the macross staff had worked on it. i had to see it. its not the best work stoywise...but its one of the best animated
Like many in America, Gundam Wing was my first series but the UC is my favorite timeline. If people want to get into it I HIGHLY recommend Mobile Suit Gundam: The Origin. It sets the stage for everything, The Zabi family founding of Zeon, Casval's transformation into Char, the creation of mobile suits, and the start of the One Year War. After that I recommend the three film version of Mobile Suit Gundam, 8th MS Team, 0080: War in the Pocket, 0083: Stardust Memory, and Char's Counter Attack. Not that high on Zeta and ZZ IMO.
I love everything about UC. All of it. I actually got buddies of mine into Gundam with Unicorn and Zeta. My first series was Wing, but I eventually grew to dislike it.
No love for IGLOO? It had the best concept Mobile Armors and Suits. Looks straight out of Armored Core in some designs. I recommend it purely for the setting that it takes place in the background of the main series. Love me some IGLOO and its opening music
Guess I'm old enough to say Zeta is my first but ZZ is the first one that I've finished. Even within UC that the story after Char's Counterattack is a bit weird. I still remember F90 series that was purely created to sell Bandai Gunplas.
First entry for me was reruns of 0079 when i was little. I probably watched all of them but couldnt tell you what happened. Same thing with Cowboy Bebop. G is probably the first i can remember what happens. Most likely because it was sort of the Dragonball world tournament episodes/mortal combat with gundam.
I kinda started late. My first dive into the Gundam shows was Built Divers Re:Rise with Unicorn as my first UC taste. I'm kinda in an odd place cuz I respect UC more than i like it, while still giving the rest of the spinoffs a try.
I actually hated the Gundam franchise with a passion for the longest time, and avoided it actively for years. At one point, though, my interest in super robot shows led me to give G Gundam a try and I steadily got into the franchise from there. G Gundam is still my favorite as well.
Heh I'm curious why did you hate it? If it was SEED then that explains that lul. But I am just wondering what some critical viewpoints of the series are from people who didnt/dont like it. (as a whole).
@@ORLY911 It was more of a personal issue. I had a friend who was obsessed with Gundam and compared every mecha series to it, so I developed a bad opinion of the franchise before giving it a chance.
I first watched gundam wing, and EW, then Unicorn which i felt the story and the references were better and i figured i better watch the original to see what I'm missing with the references, started the original gundam, and then just love the UC although aged i still like Wing and most recently orphans. There's just so much story and the way the story of told in the UC that is so attractive... in war there's losers and losers message that I love.
My first UC series I watched and first Gundam series in general was 0080 in Canto dub. It is more child-like in presentation, which is intentional given the main character is a child, yet it got its message across in its depiction of war. After that is 8th MS Team, the movie compilation of the OG MS Gundam, Char's Counterattack, 0083, Zeta, and Unicorn. Have to say, the trilogy compilation of MS Gundam was well made. Did not feel like a compilation at all compared to other movie compilations like the original Starship Yamato. Unlike the AUs, the UC timeline in general is harder for me to simply outright say I like since, being the main timeline, it is the most expanded upon. With it comes a whole bunch of hits or misses given the different writing involved. Generally speaking I do enjoy the self contained sidestories a little more than the so-called 'main' series in the timeline. While I did in the past find it annoying the constant revisiting of the One Year War period, I do find the likes of 0080, 0083, and 8th MS Team to just stand out more. Though I have yet to watch it, I do kind of want to watch the Zeta movies. Not just for the new animation, but mainly because of Gackt. :P
Endless Waltz(including Wing), 0079, 0083, then 08th MS team. I have an honest special affinity for stardust memory, you just have to roll with the silly bitch but no more silly than far more popular stuff, Wing also and my favorite of all time is Endless Waltz, and fave generated unrestricted nuclear driven assault module of all time is Unicorn or Freedom's sniper set up
i started with Mobile Suit Gundam: Iron-Blooded Orphans and i didnt really know where to go from there this video help alot i think ill try mobile suit gundam 08th ms team and then go to the og movies
I'm sure like most Americans my first Gundam series was Gundam Wing. I never missed the show on Toonami on Cartoon Network. I had all the Bandai model kits, still have a few to this day. It was also one of the first anime that I witnessed. Looking back it was an OK anime but I thought the characters were a bit too whiny.

G-Saviour was finale for UC though and the story is pretty interesting even it's typical Low Budget Canadian tv movie which unfortunately the CGI wasn't aged well it's UC 0223
I started with 00 because I saw it recommended for newcomers, but then I dropped it because it got a little annoying. I then moved on to the Witch from Mercury and Original Series at about the same time and I'm loving both.

Excellent work on these videos. This was wonderful.
Isn’t that the game that reanimates all the scenes? I love the reanimated footage.
I guess Wing and Mobile Suit kind of overlap each other in terms of first
This is legitimately helpful for someone like me who's been meaning to get into Gundam! Thank you!
My first was Iron Blooded Orphans when it was added to Netflix a few months ago
Then I watched unicorn and was a little lost tho I guess that's because it's the main timeline
@Peter Parker Unicorn and everything succeeding it is the icing to the UC's cake. The finale will always be Char's counter attack.
Unicorn was pretty good
Like many people my age, my first Gundam was Gundam Wing, but my first exposure to the Universal Century was Stardust Memory, which I'm surprised you didn't mention here.
2:24 wow i didn't expect that geez..
Gotta say, 08th MS Team was my starting point and I always come back to it.
Far more better video than the cruchyroll one
Okay.
My first go at Gundam is 00 and though I loved that show, I'd say my all-time favorite is 08th MS Team with Thunderbolt not too far behind.
I think Advent of the Red Comet is a good place for new comers to start. If they like Char enough they'll check out every UC series he's in and possibly branch out to more. My first was 083 & Wing, but UC is def my favorite timeline. I like that the tech is based on real science, I appreciate that detail
I don't really recommend Gundam The Origin as a starting point. it won't have the same impact as when someone watched the original series first.
Reason I like it is because of:
- cool mecha design
- space politics
- human evolution
- war
My first Gundam timeline was Gundam 00, I still find myself coming back to it,
No skull in this?... I'm insulted. Great Gundam content by the way.
I had a friend when I was a kid that used to love Gundam, I wasnt a big fan back then, but I'm tryin to go back and understand it
Obviously, being a 22 year old anime nerd, I haven't been around long enough to have experienced Gundam since its inception, but sometimes I forget how long I HAVE been watching Gundam shows and partaking in Gundam content.
My first was Gundam Wing. Watching it on Toonami as a kid was awesome!
0:58 Pretty sure SEED series is Cosmic Era (CE), not Current Era; but awesome and informative video, thanks for compiling this!
I wish they had a channel to all the Mecha Genre
Got my cherry popped by Wing, bought models at gamestop of my favorite mobile suits, stayed up super fucking late to see Endless Waltz. Them as I got older and more interested in the lore and "science" i fell in love with OG 0079, am currently watching everything UC in chronological order, no compilation movies. About to start Zeta
Seed was my first Gundam anime but Wing was my first love since my cousin had model kits way before.
My first was the three gundam movies followed by 08th MS, zeta, skipped ZZ and then Char's counter attack and then war in the pocket after sometime. I feel if someone has a open mind to older anime then the UC older stuff is pretty cool start point
My ideal way to introduce UC Gundam for newbies
1. Mobile Suit Gundam or Gundam: The Origin (manga)
2. War in the Pocket and The 08th MS Team
3. Zeta Gundam (TV series)
4. Gundam ZZ
5. Char's Counterattack
My first one was 00 and I maintain that it's the best entry point because it's modern, good and self contained.
My First Intro to Gundam was the Post-Disaster Timeline (IBO) that was Accessible AF, Consisting of Great Moments of Hype
Same, it is by far the best Non-UC series.
Like you Wing was my first taste of Gundam, i've watch many diffrent gundam shows over hte years and my favorite is actually 0083 Star Dust Memory
Wing gundam, like many others was my first series. Got me to start building gundam model kits (gunpla).
I was 9 years old when I first got into Gundam through Gundam Wing back in 2000.
Mobile Fighter G was my first Gundam series way back in the 3rd Grade.
My first Gundam was a slightley scratched chars counter attack CD I found in a stack of random CD s and watched it quit a few times.
I love everything about UC. All of it. I actually got buddies of mine into Gundam with Unicorn and Zeta. My first series was Wing, but I eventually grew to dislike it.
I cant wait for more iron blooded Brothers-like gundam series, or maybe a 3 season of it
The best parts of UC are the side stories, 8th ms, war in the pocket and stardust memory are way better then the main series.
My first series was probably the Zeta. Followed quickly by 00 and then the original.
0083 was my first. As for newcomers, Miller's Report is an excellent starting point.
I think I'm planning on watching Mobile Gundam Gundam: The 08th MS Team.
I still remember F90 series that was purely created to sell Bandai Gunplas.
wing was my first but my heart belongs to the 08th ms team. I love that series
I was late guys. Mine was gundam IBO, and then 00, and then wing, and i just got sucked into UC recently
@@Pyrocore77 reminds me of Evangelion fans who haven’t seen other mecha anime. The Evangelion fans that have seen other mecha are cool tho.
>Constant fight to stay on model.
The harder fight for Amuro to maintain with his low level Newtype ability.
Almost every Gundam fan agree that thunderbolt series is really cool much more focuses in true nature war like bloodied oprhans not some kid fantasy
Mobile Suit Gundam MS IGLOO 2: Electric Boogaloo
Endless Waltz(including Wing), 0079, 0083, then 08th MS team. I have an honest special affinity for stardust memory, you just have to roll with the silly bitch but no more silly than far more popular stuff, Wing also and my favorite of all time is Endless Waltz, and fave generated unrestricted nuclear driven assault module of all time is Unicorn or Freedom's sniper set up
The first Gundam I watched was Gundam 00. I just happened to see an SD Exia and got curious
i started with Mobile Suit Gundam: Iron-Blooded Orphans and i didnt really know where to go from there
this video help alot i think ill try mobile suit gundam 08th ms team and then go to the og movies
Good idea. I started with the OG series, and it’s a really good anime. It honestly feels like the first modern anime
My first was G Gundam.
I think the 8th MS team is a good starting point for new people.
I grew up on old school anime but my first gundam experiance was 0079 tv series
Gundam wing was my first gundam
I'm sure like most Americans my first Gundam series was Gundam Wing. I never missed the show on Toonami on Cartoon Network. I had all the Bandai model kits, still have a few to this day. It was also one of the first anime that I witnessed. Looking back it was an OK anime but I thought the characters were a bit too whiny.
My first Gundam series that I watched is Gundam Unicorn
G Gundam was my first and will always have my heart ♥️ but outside of that UC is my favorite
My first was Gundam wing, then the original, then G Gundam.
Wing was sort of my first Gundam anime but Iron Blooded Orphans was the one that made me into Gundam
Are you sure it's not 00 that changed you into a gundam?
@@user-pi1lb4tf2f haven’t watched the first episode yet until two months ago. I’ve been thinking about watching the whole thing, but school and other things are in the way.
@@mikethecurious2489 that was just some joke where the protagonist who always claims that he is a gundam.
@@user-pi1lb4tf2f oh, yeah I guess the I made a typing error and I think I got the funny joke. Setsuna should probably get his eyes checked and not be claimed as an advance war machine that fights for peace and freedom with a large gun.
Cool! Gundams are the best!
G-Saviour was finale for UC though and the story is pretty interesting even it's typical Low Budget Canadian tv movie which unfortunately the CGI wasn't aged well
it's UC 0223
G gundam was my first. I still love it too but I’m a gundam fan regardless of the series tbh
I started with 00 because I saw it recommended for newcomers, but then I dropped it because it got a little annoying. I then moved on to the Witch from Mercury and Original Series at about the same time and I'm loving both.
If you want a starting place watch the first tv series. The opening and the zakus will pull you right in.
