There is a mod for Fallout 4 that is called Her, The Machine and I. It is about a young lady who was taken from an asylum, and her mind was assimilated into a machine, and she was marketed as an assistant that was accessible from a radio that you purchased. She was designed to listen in for people speaking treason or Chinese or both, and later you discover that the "radio" that you bring into your home or car or both, can also be used to emit sonic waves that incapacitate those people in a small area. So, the numbers station idea is sound, but with advancements in Robobrain technology the government needed a way to listen in on everyone and filter through the chatter. When he talked about the radio resuming transmission after a long time... my thought was: the Chinese returning. And not remnants from the past invasion, but a new invasion force/spies from a new government over in China which has mysterious intentions. And through your interactions with them, you'd be able to learn more about what happened there during the war, but also in the aftermath.

I think something such as the DUGA Array, were it implemented in Fallout, could maybe be converted into a messaging array/booster; allowing comms from all across the wasteland; and even the wider world.
One gameplay mechanic i would like to see from atomic gardens is some sort of strategic plant breeding, a mini game. If the player does everything right, the plants can be used for superior ingredients for stronger buffs and if something is done wrong, the plants will cause illness and debuffs.
i think adding mobile missile trucks like the ones in the intro would be an interesting thing to see modded into the game if only just because they look neat
The duga Radar was so powerful that it started scorching people's brains. Only a wise man called Strelok was able to switch it off by fighting through a horde of his own hallucinations.
Atlas observatory in 76 is heavily hinted as being a environmental weapon that was canned for unknown reasons. Also I think the storms of Divide also count here due to their Big MT origin
The Atlas Observatory is a throwback to the Hercules Bradley and Highwater Trousers Satellites from Fallout 3 and the canceled B.O.M.B-001 from Van Buren. Would have been cool if they actually followed through on what it actually was lore-wise instead of just leaving it ambiguous.
@@ThatGuySizzleMac They were going to expand more on it, and other things around Atlas, but some people were freaking out about adding any more dlc that involved the Brotherhood. So now we have Orlando at the Whitespring.
For your weather modification idea, that's already in Fallout. In Big Mt, there is the X-17 Meteorological Research Station, where they create artificial rain. That location is also connected to the Divide, with the fierce storms there being a result of Big Mt tech. Additionally, the Atlas Observatory in Fallout 76 was also involved in trying to control the weather.
I found this to be a very interesting look into the cold War, especially the part on atomic gardens. Personally I would like to see more talk of the effects that the fallout US, USSR and China had on the rest of the world, especially in comparison to things in our world ie. The Cuban missile crisis, US interference in South America in the 50s. I doubt we'll get a game set outside of the US, but I'd love to see some references at least.
The darkening of the grapefruit is interesting Seeing as tree frogs around the Chernobyl Exlusion Zone have been documented as having evolved near pitch-black skin as opposed to the normal bright green color tree frogs normally have As it turns out melanin is pretty good at deflecting radiation
I want Fallout to be as immersive as it can be. Messing around with radio frequencies is a thing I enjoyed in Metro, and it would make sense in Fallout seeing as how you literally have a radio on your arm always. Picking up random frequencies as you explore just makes the world feel better.
I might be misremembering, but didn't the Hidden Valley bunker used by the Brotherhood in the Mojave have a weather control system? From memory, it put some kind of metals into the air to create storms that made the bunker harder to detect.
Since they weren't mentioned here by name, and I haven't seen anyone list them, another huge influence on Fallout was Blood's a Rover/A Boy and His Dog (A Boy and His Dog was later made into a film) by Harlan Ellison. I recommend reading the original versions, not the "updated" new edits.
Fun fact: my dad, a Danish electrician, has serviced the B-MEWS on Thule Air Base in Greenland, because the US Army had a clause in their lease of the area that means they must hire Danish and Greenlandic specialists to service the facilities. Anyway, he's told many stories of the radiation coming off of those things (within his permit ofc, there's a lot of things he can't say), and honestly they're fascinating! Fun fact: the old Air Base bunkers were flooded when they were abandoned, meaning there's a bunch of perfectly preserved 1960s bunkers just laying around in the Greenland permafrost, full of ice.
As someone who walked the Chernobyl zone.. There are so many things that would fit great in these games, and yeah.. the duga radar is stupidly big, and those "light bulbs" looking things are huuuge when you stand next to them, there was quite a lot of them on the ground nearby. The big and small antennas were not the only thing at the area, except for all the military buildings and such.. there was also a type of circle antenna (Krug/CDAA). (Although as far as i know they removed it) Now.. the power plant itself, and all things related to it is just.. a morbid love of mine ❤️
Good one Rad! I would love to see the old silos and arrays but I also think it would be interesting if they included more detailed nuclear power plants with a back story. The jump in the advancement of fission and “fusion” technologies in the fallout world always baffled me. The only nuclear power plants I know of in fallout 4 are the wrecked one near Country Crossing and the remains of one in The Glowing Sea. It would be a cool topic I think.
Speaking of number stations: a semi-recently released horror game called Signalis makes use of them. I always found them intriguing since I learned about them, so when I heard the game using them I got pretty curious. The game is definitely worth checking out if you are into that sort of thing and/or just like horror games.
You know whats missing from the Fallout timelime. The S.L.A.M. (Supersonic Low Altitude Missile) It was a nuclear ramjet powered cruise missile capable of dropping its payload of nukes on up to 16 targets with an operational range of 133,000 miles. Having a launch site that got hit mid launch with a near miss would allow for a player to come across one crashed or even in its launch cradle which would be cool as hell to see since it never left the drawing board.
I feel like Atomic Gardens would've been encouraged by the government in Fallout, to quell the talks of all the radioactive waste dumping. I also think the missile trains would've been a great excuse for the metro to carry radioactive waste too.
These are some great ideas, especially love the atomic gardens they sound so cool! I see the potential of an incredible side quest being made around one.
The podcast Vault 97 (West Vault Radio) had a commercial for gamma gardening as an in-universe integration, so it was cool to hear about its origin as an actual Cold War era thing.
I'd like to see a pre war ghoul sleeper agent, that's normal until the numbers station comes back to life and they get activated. They could be your companion and the numbers station be their affinity quest
I did hear there were a variety of underground bunkers for important people of America that were created to look like a suburban house and yards. thou I don't remember all the details on these bunkers, they were basically bunkers created to be as comfortable as possible to the occupants to look like and feel like home, something that's still a bunker, but that's a little different from the Vaults. Maybe with something like this it could become a secret HQ for Enclave members, or even a place for you to start your story as a member of the Enclave, being a descendant of an important pre-war person.
An excellent list. I think Project Nike air defense missile sites should be included. They were ubiquitous in suburban areas around major metropolitan areas during the Cold War, from the 50s until the mid 70s. There are still old buildings and radar equipment left from some Nike Missile sites in some areas to this day. There were 200 or so missile sites spread over 40 some sectors. They could be a good minor location for use in the game.
The storms in the divide and the storm that covers hidden valley are both weather manipulation devices created in the big mt so technically we do see it we just don’t see the things creating it

a Numbers station would also be an interesting thing for an Enclave faction that isnt Xenophobic and genocidal to communicate with, decode it and you find a pipboy module that will allow you to communicate directly with them, a few missions on you get direct contact.....that would be a real fun way to introduce a faction - you dont even realize they are enclave until you get to the meet and a Vertibird sets down to unload X-01 armored troopers but rather then the Circle E and black they have the American flag and a blue shoulder or something.

Maybe number stations aren’t featured so far because they were an integral part of Enclave comms, which seems to have failed during the war. Their silence in Fallout could be the echoes of the failure of Enclave conspiracies.
The idea of atomic gardens got me to think about Vault 22, a whole area filled with mutated plants like the spore would be a cool idea for a new environment to explore and play a key role in a major quest line, but far more expensive then the vault concept.
Actually a weather manipulator does appear in 76, though they dont do much with it and the only real evidence is in logs. There is a facility designed like a telescope that is secretly a weather manipulation device. I believe the brotherhood dlc has them move into it
Nice ideas, I like it. I do love the thought of expanding on things that should be implemented to tacky 60s sci-fi ideas or even actual 60s "what will we have in the future?" concepts.
i think the location for this rad farm could maybe be a vault, not only testing radiation on the food but testing that food on tbe vault dwellers, purposefully making certain dwellers sick to see the results, and maybe a faction of the COA live here, still growing and eating these location specific plants that only grow in the vault, the unique foods could grant different bonuses, such as when cooked, one may produce a radiation field around the player for 30 seconds or so, but slowing dousing the player with 5-10 rads per second or so, and you could cook it in a stew and have that stew maybe make it last longer, and a different stew not change the tine but mitigate the radiation dealt to the player, theres a plethora of things to explore here with the wonders of radiation and how it works, maybe this faction of COA could even have some members, or even be entirely made up of a new "species" of particularly goul-efied people, half their face and part of their limbs just slowly being turned into a goul, i think seeing people mid transition could be really intriguing to explore
19:10 Already been done. * Big Mountain was known to be carrying out weather manipulation experiments. You can directly interact with a small scale version in a lab and terminals within that lab show they were doing it on large scales. * Clearly that research went somewhere, because in Fallout 4, you can load a friggin fireworks mortar with a shell that can change the weather.
Gamma gardening sounds amazing! I know it's not everyone's cup of tea, but I loved the settlement building feature. I wouldn't mind putting some atomic horticultural techniques to the test. The idea of a location based on an atomic garden sounds really fun, too.
I'd love to see the Atomic Garden as a creation club/mob for Fallout4 settlements ... maybe a new dungeon that's basically an above ground ruin of a PreWar research program and an underground ant nest that you have to delve into to recover some item/macguffin to complete the quest. Upon completion, you unlock a new misc resource settlement item that drops down a central radiator with some radioactive material, a large zone where nothing can be placed and it emits radiation damage, but then a series of circles on the ground a few meters away from the center that increases the amount of food yielded by planted crops. 15:00 - there is already weather modification tech in Fallout 4, though. You can craft mortar shells to create/dispel rainfall from your settlements, cant you?
All of the above, absolutely. Atomic Garden is the coolest idea, though kind of redundant with the already mutated gardens, but it'd make for a fun set of scenes.
Fun from a train nerd, they were implemented for 3 years, main issue was the cars stick out like a sore thumb being excess height and using 4 trucks or bogies to hold the weight compared to the standard 2 truck setup, also the train would need to stop in the clear to properly deploy so it was kibashed.
I could see the number stations being a thing that basically was implemented to help the DIA agents in fallout 4 find the cache's locations hidden around the map. I never thought it was very realistic how P.A.M just magically found the caches and gives you the cards to open the rooms. If it's added in now it could do the same or to various hidden dungeons that would be otherwise unseen at all normally with high end gear or functional vehicles that can ONLY be found by solving the number stations.
Numbers stations could also be used to gather information on other factions, they could implement a code breaking perk that allows the player to crack the codes and use the information gathered to help or hinder those factions.
I disagree with adding mobile nuke launchers. In real life, the U.S. was never seriously invested in mobile launch tactics and has always instead opted for the "Nuclear Triad" doctrine which focuses on submarine-launched, aircraft launched, and silo-launched missiles. The only country that did focus on mobile launchers was the USSR to specifically counter the U.S.'s triad so the U.S. would have no reason to develop a fleet of mobile launchers. The best warfare strategy is to specialize in what your enemy *can't* do, not try and replicate them.
On the mention of sci-fi ideas for a future video of what ifs or whatnot, I think one very unique thing to take from B-grade flicks is the cliche of a mad scientist doing brain transplants. In Fallout, brains have been put into jars of bio-gel, most notably to control Robobrains.. In the New Vegas DLC Old World Blues the Courier's brain also ends up in a container of bio-gel (and can be conversed with hilarious results). I think an interesting and insofar unjustly unexplored evolution of this concept is the brain being put into other creatures of the wasteland. Of course I'm talking about this happening to the game's protagonist. Just imagine the Fallout protagonist having the chance to cause utter chaos as a Deathclaw, or embark on a most non-standard quest as an ordinary dog.
I was talking to my friend about number stations and why aren't they in fallout I didn't see this video but my idea was since you can find Chinese spys in and around the United states in the game (fallout 3 and 76 having the most I've seen of it) but maybe you could find a radio station that plays numbers and a whole side quest is to figure out the message and solve the mystery kinda like in point look out and you find the goulified spy 200 years later and you can either kill them for being a commie, convince them to quit their mission and find them a home in the post war or help them complete their mission even though it would be a fruitless effort but you gain a perk called "incognito" that gives you a buff to sneak and allows you to sabatoge factions without them becoming hostile off the bat could add for some neat roleplaying and make a future game more interesting
Oh man, that pseudo-scientist at the 15min mark- that dude is sure a Character. The 'orgone energy' evolved from his obsession with the orgasm and sex. There's a Sawbones episode about him I'd recommend. These are such great ideas though! I was especially fascinated by the Atomic gardens.
There's a weather research facility in the big empty already tho. And in the bad ending for the Sierra Madre Elijah uses it to send the cloud to the Mojave
On the topic of weather control; you could also use it as a set-piece like the Hoover-Dam in New Vegas, where factions are fighting for control of it, ra facility that could control the weather would breathe new life into the wasteland, a faction you set up to control the station could then use it for either malevolent or benevolent purposes. For example a faction of ghoul supremacists could use the station to make it nothing but rad-storms, so the non-ghouls, and mutants would perish.

Isnt there a large early detection radar on a pyramid shaped building in the glowing sea? It just has a flat phased array more similar to 80’s design. Also the soviets built 2 dugas and a smaller prototype
Imagine the numbers stations revealing the randomly generated passwords to certain computers if you listen long enough, like a slow but useful back door for hacking without the skills

I would love to see those number stations in a future game , imagine if there was one that lead down a rabbit hole to another lovecraftion entity which has been using the leaves in the radio waves to brainwash and attract followers .
@@octavianpopescu4776 i like both of these ideas. theyre both horrifying in their own ways.
@@octavianpopescu4776 I would actually kind of like a Chinese army remnant, sort of like a brotherhood of steel, but Chinese, so like a bunch of tech worshippers who use stealth suits and espionage.
That would be sick
Nah, that strays too far from Fallout.
I think something such as the DUGA Array, were it implemented in Fallout, could maybe be converted into a messaging array/booster; allowing comms from all across the wasteland; and even the wider world.
Well there are the old troposcatter comm arrays. They were large dish pairs that would bounce signals off the tropopause layer of the atmosphere
@@dayaninikhaton like the satcom arrays in 3? I like them, but I don’t really feel like they fit the style you know?
One gameplay mechanic i would like to see from atomic gardens is some sort of strategic plant breeding, a mini game. If the player does everything right, the plants can be used for superior ingredients for stronger buffs and if something is done wrong, the plants will cause illness and debuffs.
Isn't there an atomic garden in that vault that got overrun by plants? Forgot what vault that was
i think adding mobile missile trucks like the ones in the intro would be an interesting thing to see modded into the game if only just because they look neat
They bear a strong resemblance to real world Hawk missile launching platforms as well. Perhaps where they intro makers got the idea from.
fun fact: the Duga radar was so powerfull that the near by recidents of is Pripyat could watch some western television (illegaly but still)
The duga Radar was so powerful that it started scorching people's brains. Only a wise man called Strelok was able to switch it off by fighting through a horde of his own hallucinations.

Such is life in the Zone.
"hinted" huh is that what it is
For your weather modification idea, that's already in Fallout.
As a history nerd, the Cold War era is my favorite era in history to learn about. It was such a turbulent time😅
I found this to be a very interesting look into the cold War, especially the part on atomic gardens.
Writing a Fallout RPG story for friends & absolutely love the cold war speculative video! Great ideas for plotlines.
The darkening of the grapefruit is interesting
Seeing as tree frogs around the Chernobyl Exlusion Zone have been documented as having evolved near pitch-black skin as opposed to the normal bright green color tree frogs normally have
As it turns out melanin is pretty good at deflecting radiation
I want Fallout to be as immersive as it can be. Messing around with radio frequencies is a thing I enjoyed in Metro, and it would make sense in Fallout seeing as how you literally have a radio on your arm always. Picking up random frequencies as you explore just makes the world feel better.
I might be misremembering, but didn't the Hidden Valley bunker used by the Brotherhood in the Mojave have a weather control system? From memory, it put some kind of metals into the air to create storms that made the bunker harder to detect.
The Atlas observatory the Brotherhood in appalachia uses has a weather control system.
Yes it's confirmed the dust storms are artificially created. I think it's area of Influence is limited but it sets a precedent for the technology
Big MT had a small scale one that was eventually used to manipulate wind patterns in the Divide.
(Although as far as i know they removed it)
Now.. the power plant itself, and all things related to it is just.. a morbid love of mine ❤️
Fallout 76 does already have the weather manipulation machine, its at Fort Atlas
And old world blues
Glad someone else caught this
You know whats missing from the Fallout timelime.
The S.L.A.M. (Supersonic Low Altitude Missile)
It was a nuclear ramjet powered cruise missile capable of dropping its payload of nukes on up to 16 targets with an operational range of 133,000 miles. Having a launch site that got hit mid launch with a near miss would allow for a player to come across one crashed or even in its launch cradle which would be cool as hell to see since it never left the drawing board.
It was meant as a doomsday weapon as even its exhaust would irradiate the area it flies over.
I loved hearing about atomic gardening! I never knew this was a thing!
The storms in the divide and the storm that covers hidden valley are both weather manipulation devices created in the big mt so technically we do see it we just don’t see the things creating it
Recently found your channel and it made me want to play Skyrim and Fallout again. Starting with FO4 and making my way down the previous games, then going to Oblivion and Skyrim. So far I've only put 3 days into FO4 but your videos give great tips and info for the lore nut and scavenger alike, even sometimes listen while gaming. Otherwise your material is great for the audio, as your long videos make great work study. Thank you for the work you do.
Hey. I've been enjoying your exhaustive lists videos for the past month or so for your great voice and dry humor, and of course your attention to detail and thoroughness. Excellent stuff, if workmanlike (not a pejorative). Didn't expect this one, tho. Easily my new favorite video of yours and will make me take a closer look at the channel. This is such a great essay and your hypothetical scenarios sound like a blast and really get the imagination going.
I’ve gotta say that the numbers station in the intro really makes this channel dope af.
a Numbers station would also be an interesting thing for an Enclave faction that isnt Xenophobic and genocidal to communicate with, decode it and you find a pipboy module that will allow you to communicate directly with them, a few missions on you get direct contact.....that would be a real fun way to introduce a faction - you dont even realize they are enclave until you get to the meet and a Vertibird sets down to unload X-01 armored troopers but rather then the Circle E and black they have the American flag and a blue shoulder or something.
Now if there is one thing I'd like to see in a fallout game would be Oak ridge secret city
Radking showcases and talks about the exact reasons why i love fallout. The speculation on the technologies, possible lore implications, history of, real world counterparts of things, all things that drive my love for the series. Thank you @Radking for this channel and its content, cheers to sharing atoms embrace and basking in his wonderful glow!☢️
I would love to hear some more ideas, whether it's more cold war or sci-fi things like you said.
At this point I just hope I can play Fallout 5 before dying of old age.
Great video! So many cool ideas. I think I'll borrow some of these for the tabletop Fallout.
Did I just watch you drop the OverBoss power armor so you could pick some tatos 8:30
I applaud your use of a commercial break when talking about the number stations.
gamma gardens? hmm could truly see a ghoul and supermutant community sprout up since they're immune to the rads.
ngl learning about numbers stations was cool af please keep it up lol
Bethesda should hire you as a consultant for Fallout 5. You have so many great ideas!
I would love to see a mix gamma gardening and Vault 22 technology
11:17 I think this is what the Rush song "Distant Early Warning" was about
All of the above, absolutely. Atomic Garden is the coolest idea, though kind of redundant with the already mutated gardens, but it'd make for a fun set of scenes.
The number station would make an awesome arg
I got so excited when you said numbers stations!!! I loveee Numbers Stations ♥️
I remember those irradiated seed kits from when I was young (yes, I'm that old). I planted tomatoes at least one year.
Some great ideas, hope these are things they'll make it into the next fallout
There was a plan to use the moon as a orbital weapon platform to launch nukes in case of WW3.
This was super interesting & I personally enjoyed your brainstorming! Thank You!
10:00 You've heard of morning wood, get ready for morning bug!
18:20 honestly this also feels like a way of canonizing the weather control holotape mod that a lot of players have been using for years.😁
Numbers stations could also be used to gather information on other factions, they could implement a code breaking perk that allows the player to crack the codes and use the information gathered to help or hinder those factions.
20:16 *Distorted Trumpets from HL2 starts playing*
9:14 I could see a sect of the children of Atom using this to produce unusual crops
Wow. I definitely want to see some Children of Atom operating an Atomic Garden now. I may need to go back and build a few in my Children themed villages…
Good one, by all means do 2nd part :D ! I'll listen for sure.
I want Anchorage to be the next fallout setting
You ever thought about modding things like these? The nuclear trains seem like a pretty good addition to Fo4, I’m sure many people would be interested in downloading them!
Happy New Year RadKing. Hope you and yours have a safe one.
You should definitely do more videos like this! Maybe do different time periods...
Big Mountain had a weather research facility, didn’t it effect the Divide before it blew up?
Yep. I think their weather tech also created the cloud over the Sierra Madre. And don't forget the Archimedes solar weapon you can get from tinkering with Helios-1.
@@wayneigoe6722 I don't think the cloud was a weather modification but more of a chemical weapon test from big mt thus the hazmat suits and ghost people
I’m not sure if it actually is but I thought the hydroponics in Fallout Shelter looked a bit like the atomic gardens I’ve seen in my research in the past
It’s not a very big reference but it might be there
Also I’d have to check but the tiered planters inside the Synth settlement at the observatory in far harbor might’ve had something like it? This is one I’m less sure of though because I don’t remember the layout of that place too well to begin with
For finding old nuclear missiles my pick would be Cold War to the core. Finding a land mobile version of SLAM/Project Pluto. Those lads at Convair/General Dynamics had to have had more than their fair share of "talent" leftover from Operation Paperclip to come up with ideas that fly at mach 3+ flicking nuclear warheads as they pass over head irradiating enemy territory with it's radioactive exaust
At least there's only a one-pager on Fallout 5 so far. Gives us plenty of time to shout to our heart's content all the things we wanna see in the next game.
Number stations implementation in tandem with a real world ARG would be awesome as hell!!!
When I was a high schooler, my best friends and I would write our own game guides and game theories. Our theory for the Fallout 3 DLC was that you’d have to go to the commonwealth to take on or join the institute because of certain dialogue during the replicated man quest in rivet city. Obviously F4 happened which really boosted my ego but we made a theory for NV dlc that you would go to Roswell and Area 51 so I’m hoping for Fallout 5 to do me another solid.
I think it’s interesting to mention that the us actually tested launching an icbm from the back of a c5 galaxy cargo plane, maybe something like that could also be included in a future game.
Damn sick video loved the duga idea I could totally see that
Yeah the radar stations are still one of my most nostalgic memories from when I first played fallout
Maybe have the code on both the radio and the computers linked so if you reset the computer with a failed attempt it’ll reset the radio one and if you reset the radio one by saving and loading it’ll reset the computer one, so it’ll just reward you for being patient
Hey Radking, Atomic Gardening wouldn’t happen to be similar to the sidequest the Institute has you do with the family at the Sewage Treatment Plant in FO4 where the Father is a Synth?
