    Tried to change driver side low beam in a jeep grand Cherokee limited. Abandoned the wheel well hole deeming it impossible. Loosened and disconnected the air hose, then removed the air filter box and intake. It ended up being less than 15 mins work but was the best option by far. Hope this helps someone.

    Hello Phil, thank you!! I just had my driver's side low beam burn out and A) wanted to see what it would take to change it and B) determine the right bulb for the job. You covered both so I appreciate it.

    Just did this. I had to do this outside in Alaska, it was -3 (luckily that warm). What a pain, my hand got wrecked. Thx for making this video. Saved me a lot of guessing and frustration. The manual was pretty useless.

    Your recommendations for using fingerless gloves is brilliant. I have pretty small hands and mine got cut up between my knuckles and wrists, reaching up through the trap doors in the wheel wells (I replaced both my bulbs). I didn’t heed your advice because I figured my hands would be safe by being small....they weren’t. The design team at Jeep that came up with this should be whipped.

    Thank you for the video. I had both of my low beam bulbs go out on my 2015 Jeep Grand Cherokee within a day of each other. I was able to replace both through the access holes...but it was a battle (and I have the scraped up hands to show for it). The hardest part for me was getting the old bulbs out. Initially, I couldn't get either one to budge as it was really hard to get good leverage on them. After trying for quite a bit, I was finally able to get the passenger side bulb to move. On the driver's side, I was all but ready to give up and try coming in from the top when I decided to try a pair of standard pliers. With both hands in the access hole, I was able to get the pliers on the back of the bulb and then move it just enough to loosen up. From there, I was home free. But this was definitely a task that was way harder than one would think it would be...

    Gotta agree with Daniel Miller and David Nelson. Despite nicked knuckles, I've got two new low beams. Driver's side took too long to admit here, and I almost quit twice, but I got it done. The passenger side was a breeze in comparison. Thanks for posting this, Phil.

    Nice to know you were one of the few able to get it done thru the small access panel in the wheel-well.
    Has anybody considered widening the access "hole" by easily cutting the thin material away by
    several inches and then patching it using a removable piece attached with several plastic pop-out rivets?
    It seems that that would make future bulb changing problems a thing of the past!
    That is just what I'm gonna do with mine when the time comes.

  • @pizzathehut79

    Thanks for the video! Took me about 20 minutes. The passageway under the wheel well is really small so it is kind of awkward. The hardest part was getting the cap to the headlight housing back on. Also good advice on the glove; I used a Kevlar knit glove which undoubtedly saved me a bunch of scrapes.

  • @CORT745
    @CORT745 6 ปีที่แล้ว +4

    On my 2015 with the same headlights, I could NOT get to them from the access holes. It was actually easier to do from above with the hood open. The passenger side is relatively easy - I removed the outboard plug from the computer to get a little more room, but had it changed in about 2 minutes. On the driver's side, I removed the air intake filter box (once the 2 hoses and 1 wiring loom holder are disconnected, it just pulls straight up off of 3 friction-fit tabs) and the bulb is pretty easy to get to. Took about 10 minutes on that side.

      Same here. I've changed halogen to a few different LED's and back to Halogen on my 2015 Altitude and couldn't get access to it from the wheel well. I could touch it, but nothing else-- lost ALOT of skin trying. Removed the air box and changed it in 5 mins. Be careful with the airbox clips. They're cheep and easy to break.
      Whoever designed it this way is...... well, I won't say. The wording changes depending which skin layer I lose because I can't use gloves. My hands barely fit without gloves.

      @@steveo4122 I literally just installed another (4th try) LED set, this time Hikari. I'm pulling those out and going back to my Sylvania Ultra's. As much as I like the color of LED's, they don't come close to how far down the road I can see with the Halogens. 😭

      This is gonna sound weird but I was having the same problem. Position yourself next to the fender facing towards the back of the jeep. Now use your left hand to reach in by bending your arm towards your back and bend over (as if you are getting handcuffed :P). I don't know how but that enables you to use your thumb... which is really the whole problem here. Can't use your thumb using your right hand in any position. Good luck
