  • One of the HID lightbulbs stopped working. In this video you will see how to replace the HID lightbulbs in both sides of this 2015 Jeep Grand Cherokee WK2.
    The left side requires you to take out the air filter assembly to get access to the headlight.
    The right side requires you to shift the coolant reservoir to get access to the headlight.
    Make sure you purchase the correct HID lightbulb for your vehicle, as there are HID D1S and D3S. This car uses D3S whereas older models use D1S. It is a good idea to remove the existing one to check ensuring you collect the correct one.
    Even though only one side is broke, it is recommended to replace both at the same time, especially if it is a different brand. This way it is ensured that they emit the same amount and colour of light.

    Prior to this I saw a couple of other videos and was stuck on removing the bulb. Well.. your video clearly explains the lever situation. Pretty huge detail for those others to leave out. Thanks for the helpful video.

    I saw other videos and was stuck turning the bulb to the left of course no one else explained the all-important lever situation. I followed your instructions and it only took me minutes after an hour of up and down frustration LOL thanks again great video

    Excellent tutorial. I was able to do it successfully on both sides in about 1 hour. The most difficult part for me was to remove to plugs as you need to squeeze two latches on both sides of the plug while pulling it; for me it worked after having removed the bulbs from the lamps with the plugs on. Other tricky parts were to find the holes in the headlight for the new bulbs without bending the wire on the bulb, as well as fiddling on the plugs onto the mounted bulbs. The levers were quite hard to turn, but I finally managed... I would have probably given up without this video. A huge thanks!!

    Thank you for sharing. The 3 o’clock level is the key to get the bulb out easily! Thanks for pointing that out!

    Mike. Thanks so much for putting this together. I tackled this yesterday. The drivers side was straight forward thanks to your info. It was a different story on the passenger side. I have the Hemi 5.6 engine and there is NO room on that side! The bolt pattern on the overflow tank was different and there was a bolt so low that I couldn't get to it, so I couldn't move it. I had to un-bolt the ECU and move it out of the way but it was still a very tight space. It took me 2 hrs to finally get it in and locked by going from above and below via the access hole in the wheel well. Then I tried to put the rubber cover back on and found that a wire was under the bulb connector wire and was blocking the cover. Uggg! I had to remove the bulb and the connector (hint on removing the connector: use a flat head screwdriver next to the top of the connector where it touches the bulb housing and wiggle it to slowly push the connector off) to move the offending wire and then go through the process all over! It went a bit quicker the second time. ALl in all, it took me 3.5 hrs but that included a run to Ace for a metric socket set. Cheers!

      Replacing the passenger side…It is FAR easier to just remove the Bumper, Grill and then pull the headlight out.

    Thanks for posting this mate - made the job a lot easier. I had already watched a few other vids on this but they were all US, where the connector for the bulb is different to the AUS model, so this was a big help.

    Worked just like he said it would. Make sure to give the Air Filter Housing a pretty good pull to get it off. At first I thought it needed unscrewing or something but that is not the case...just yank it off!

    Thanks mate. Seems that the Aussie GCs are a little different to the US ones so this helped a lot. A bit fiddly trying not to touch the bulbs but I managed. I dropped the bulbs into the housing, plugged them in and then fitted them in place. Cheers.

    Thanks for making this fine video and posting it. Can I mention the DS1 bulb where I live was $114 (each) for a 2011 while other years, apparently, use the H11 bulb that costs $21.

    Nice and helpful video but it is better to change both sides because if you change one side only, one will look brighter than the other; also the other may have to be replaced soon anyway. I have a SRT and I took off the entire front grille and bumper cover to change both because there is no space for manipulate the bulbs and the external filament can be damaged easily.

    Hi. Great video. My driver side bulb has been dim and since I had the air filter out changing plugs, I thought I'd look at the bulb. Well it was not clipped in to the housing. So I clipped it back in, I thought, it came back out. Clipped it in again and it was snug, but stopped lighting up. Pulled it out and noticed I must have cracked the ceramic. Not sure if that's enough to break the bulb or not. Happened to have a spare bulb with me so I tried installing the spare. Well that one isn't lighting either. Fuses are ok. Passenger side lights just fine. Took the spare back out and the ceramic was cracked on that one as well. Is that enough to stop these things from lighting? I wouldn't think these are that delicate but I could be wrong. What else can it be? Where is the ballast located? Thanks again!

    My levers dont seem to move, either of them.., are they a single unit that rotates? Or individual levers the pop out, and maybe hold the fingers tighter. Broke the bulb getting it out, but, can’t put the new one in because the levers won’t budge… looking for ideas.

  • @phxroadracer

    One of my bulbs went out. I read recommendations that you should change both so I did. Now, both bulbs are on, but my headlights are really dim and "dispersed" is the best word I can use to describe. And they're not any better when I turn on my brights, maybe even worse. It appears that the deflector that focuses the light and switches from dims to brights isn't work. My headlights don't do the autoleveling when you first start up the jeep. HELP!! Does anyone know if/how to reset the deflector? I have AlfaOBD if there is a way to troubleshoot and/or reset. Thanks, Craig

    • @mikeofalltrades7587
      @mikeofalltrades7587  ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Craig, I haven't come across your problem before. I would put the old bulbs back in and see if that fixes the deflectors. I am not sure if the deflectors get influenced by the bulbs? If it doesn't, check all your fuses. If that doesn't, try disconnecting your battery (under driver's seat) for 10min and reconnect. Also check all connectors for any damage. Please let me know what the outcome was - this might help others with potential problems. Thanks and Good Luck!

    • @mikeofalltrades7587

      i am not sure but changing the bulb doesn't affect the level. For that you would have to move the housing I believe.

    • @mikeofalltrades7587
      @mikeofalltrades7587  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes, they are hard plastic. They are located at 3 and 9 o'clock. probably just need a bit more force.
