@Jonny Boy That is, of course, not correct. All skeletal muscles grow as they are strengthened. I would say wait for a sale as 70 dollars is cheap expensive however overall this game is great for your first rogue like experience the wonderful different atmospheres you will encounter are truly a beauty in itself, while the graphics might not be the greatest the beauty in attention to detail is where this game stands out truly you’ll find yourself leaving a mental reminder to return to an area to explore when you have the capability to do so the fighting in this game is truly one of a kind with the arcade shoot em up feeling and the use of strategy and adrenaline this game puts the player through leaves for an exciting experience and the restarting of game when you die is in no way a discouragement youll find yourself looting for specific items or dying while trying to get a sense of feeling to the movement and play style when you die in boss fight I’ve always found myself repeating “we’ll get him next time” this reminds me of playing in arcades, you’d put your tokens in give it your all and when you loose you wanna go right back to the action my final verdict for the Returnal is 9/10
I’d say give it a shot. This is force once in a long time where we get a gameplay focused PlayStation game that isn’t riddled with overly cinematic cutscenes and has mediocre gameplay.
I wasn't sure bout Returnal a couple of months ago but now that more has been shown and reviews are coming up, I'm definitely interested. Sounds like a fun roguelite.
Probably should have mentioned this in the review, but as you progress you get abilities and items that make it easier to get back to where you were before without the hassle you went through to get there the first time. So yeah you're losing progress, but also every other run will be a bit easier because of the knowledge you've gained plus the specific items that you get that you carry from run to run.
I won't deny that this stressed me sometimes, but it is indeed very fun. The reason is simple: the movement and the shooting of this game is superb, and the adrenaline you feel when fighting a lot of enemies is so addictive that it makes you want more and more.
I mean...the "time loop gameplay" isn't really part of the gameplay it's just the story explanation of why you have to play it over and over again which is just rogue-like gameplay.
I freaking love this game, it's probably my leading candidate for game of the (early) generation so far. I keep coming back to play it, it nails the atmosphere and arcade style gameplay
I agree, I didn't realize this was a Dark Souls-like game, and had I known that I would have never bought it in the first place. It's getting increasingly annoying and I might just return it and get some other game. I play games for fun and relaxation, not to get frustrated further in life!!! loL!!!
@s p y d e r Woah! Forgot about that part. I heard something about that but didn't know if it was true, but nah, not ACG. If he is, it certainly doesn't affect his quality.
I was torn between buying this and RE:8 this month because I can’t afford them both but you’ve just convinced me that this game is the right choice. RE:8 can wait until June ✌🏻
You're way too fast damn. I'm waiting on bug fixes to release for both these titles. I'd rather not spoil the fun of Nier, and rather not frustrate myself to death with Crashes that wipe clean all progress in Returnal.
Another very detailed review that lets you know what you're in for. I'm still not sure if it's worth 80 € to me on day one, but this review makes my decision when and at what price point to get this a lot easier. I definitely want to wait for the patch on release. Maybe some balancing will be done to make the experience a bit more even.
You can get it on sale now or play it on PS Plus. I’m not the biggest fan of Roguelikes but this is 100% worth a play - it’s just so damn fun. The hardest part is the beginning, honestly, and wrapping your head around the mechanics. The game doesn’t explain itself well and it can feel frustrating and confusing initially.
The lack of autosave or saving at all is a big problem, imo. The game is out tomorrow, got good reviews and I doubt they will implement an alternative mode where you can save (a lite mode) any time soon.
@ACG I can tell you have a background in music production because of how you talk about sound. From one sound person to another, thanks for reviewing the sound the correct way.
Game looks freaking amazing. Love games where you have to dodge projectiles. Usually it’s too down games. How this is 3rd person is a slick looking package. Can’t wait to try. At least if it gets on sale.
Nice hearing a person who knows what their talking about like the game. I see a lot of people say how the game is bad and their reason all boils down to that its hard. Like the key to this game is literally making smart decisions and actually learning the mechanics of the game. If you cant do that then dont play it but dont go around saying the game is bad just because your bad at using your brain or making sound decisions.
JakeBaldino gave you a shout out! Gameranx aside, you are the ONLY channel that’s consistently given me what I need to know before buying a game. Anyway, thanks, man. I am so grateful for your coverage.
It's a roguelike - so your progress is saved but every time you die/ turn your console off you start at the beginning. Think of it like no checkpoints but you still keep some of what you've already done along with story beats etc. Just a different format than a traditional single player story game. The game itself probably only takes a few hours to complete once you've done all the work.
I just feel like a save file is necessary in a game that has any Lite effects. If you're going for full price and a full price length, then it's unreasonable to expect someone to have the time to play it all the way through. "No saved file" just tells me that no adult will play this during the week.
@@Timesplitter777 I full run is like 45 min lol That's enough time to beat it. It's literally the exact opposite of console gaming norms. Just play a little whenever and the save doesn't matter. It's 100% pick up and go. The game saves some permanent upgrades etc. It's not like it's a reset every time lol
I come here already knowing most of the time whether I'm buying a game or not but I still respect your opinion so much. Thanks again for coming through.

I’d say give it a shot. This is force once in a long time where we get a gameplay focused PlayStation game that isn’t riddled with overly cinematic cutscenes and has mediocre gameplay.
Never heard of this game. Saw this review. Halfway through, I immediately purchased the Delux Digital edition. You are a very convincing man.
Has it been worth it?
My GOTY
@@scottd7222 yo I just seen a 'speedrun' in under an hour, I'm fucked 😂😂
I wasn't sure bout Returnal a couple of months ago but now that more has been shown and reviews are coming up, I'm definitely interested. Sounds like a fun roguelite.
This game looks great but losing 2-4 hours of progress from a death just doesn't sound fun at all in any way.
Cant even turn off the console either
Probably should have mentioned this in the review, but as you progress you get abilities and items that make it easier to get back to where you were before without the hassle you went through to get there the first time. So yeah you're losing progress, but also every other run will be a bit easier because of the knowledge you've gained plus the specific items that you get that you carry from run to run.
Never played a roguelike before?
I won't deny that this stressed me sometimes, but it is indeed very fun. The reason is simple: the movement and the shooting of this game is superb, and the adrenaline you feel when fighting a lot of enemies is so addictive that it makes you want more and more.
the reason Selene is so quick is all those years of playing Soccer. In case you didnt know.... Selene is really Megan Rapinoe.
🤮
😂😂😂
A good time loop gameplay is hard to pull off. Looks like Returnal does it! Also waiting for Deathloop.
A playthrough can go beyond an hour. Not sure I like that in this type of game
I mean...the "time loop gameplay" isn't really part of the gameplay it's just the story explanation of why you have to play it over and over again which is just rogue-like gameplay.
Deathloop might be the better version. Arkane studios never let's us down 😋
Awesome review my man! Your the first and only person I’m going to see a review for this. Splendid job as always!
I freaking love this game, it's probably my leading candidate for game of the (early) generation so far. I keep coming back to play it, it nails the atmosphere and arcade style gameplay
I give it a 10/10 it was made for me.its a third person nex machina.
It will be 10 bucks by the time I can get a ps5 from a shop....
this is a little late but look up Jake Randall
I'm from the future. It's free on gamaepass
I'm from the future. It's free on gamepass
Hello fellow time traveler. It is also on ps+
fear this game hurts casuals or ppl with a life that can't play hours on end. Without the checkpoint save system when turn game off.
I'm a casual
I agree, I didn't realize this was a Dark Souls-like game, and had I known that I would have never bought it in the first place. It's getting increasingly annoying and I might just return it and get some other game. I play games for fun and relaxation, not to get frustrated further in life!!! loL!!!
@Xavier Saez, is the save system harder than Dark Souls? Or the same?
worse
Can you still put ps5 in rest mode and resume? So basically we cant switch game?
ACG, the Dr Seuss of Video Game Journalism!
@s p y d e r Woah! Forgot about that part. I heard something about that but didn't know if it was true, but nah, not ACG. If he is, it certainly doesn't affect his quality.
The flow of this video was amazing! nice job!
thank you
And now I want third person version of Alienation even more
I was torn between buying this and RE:8 this month because I can’t afford them both but you’ve just convinced me that this game is the right choice. RE:8 can wait until June ✌🏻
Don't do that dude...
Its like remnant from the ashes + control had a babby
Great review. Really been enjoying every single one since discovering you on Duke. Thank you!
Love acg reviews and this honestly looks like a blast, probably wait for a sale tho. 70$ is alot to ask for imo
Why buy day one?
Thanks Karak! Great review as always, I've been looking forward to this one.
No save possible? Play the game in 1 play trough 35 hours? Start over again every time you die?
That’s what it sounds like.. not buying it
@@Crest6680 than for me also a never buy
@@OldgamerNL Agreed, will buy it if it gets a save file update.
Rest mode saves the run
When you beat the final boss in the area it saves. If you die before you beat the boss you have to redo the world 30 mins-1 hour
This is on my list now I was gunna buy today but I’d rather wait a month for them to fix bugs and issues... I’m traumatized from outriders
@1904 18 Sarcasm
Just finished all endings for Nier Replicant. My body is ready for more bullet hell. Looks like a fun game.
Damn your fast
You're way too fast damn. I'm waiting on bug fixes to release for both these titles. I'd rather not spoil the fun of Nier, and rather not frustrate myself to death with Crashes that wipe clean all progress in Returnal.
What's Nier Replicant? a sequel to Automata?
@@amazoner0cks Prequel. It's a complete remaster of an Older game before NieR Automata.
@@amazoner0cks It is prequel to Automata. It was first released 2010 for PS3 and Xbox360. They remastered it.
Was glued to the review my man, hopefully the game is just as entertaining.
No save game?????? So they expect you to play the game on its entirety every time??? Wtf
It's a Rouge like game. That feature is a part of the genre. Yeah you can save when you quit. Still gonna have to start over when you die tho
Thank you for this honest review! I just bought the game on sale at $50 because of this.
So happy for housemarque. Hopefully I get around to playing this game soon.
Always love your reviews ACG 👍🏽
One of the best games I have played in years !
It hasn’t released yet. You got connections? Haha
@@nothanksbro420 Game stores often have copies a day early :)

Never heard that happen in USA 😳

JakeBaldino gave you a shout out! Gameranx aside, you are the ONLY channel that’s consistently given me what I need to know before buying a game. Anyway, thanks, man. I am so grateful for your coverage.
I am confused. You said there is no save game? For a 35 hour title? That section in the video is very vague and confusing.
There were plenty of reviews out earlier but this was the one I was waiting for.
I just feel like a save file is necessary in a game that has any Lite effects. If you're going for full price and a full price length, then it's unreasonable to expect someone to have the time to play it all the way through. "No saved file" just tells me that no adult will play this during the week.
If you use rest mode it will work as a save. Frustrating but it works
@@Timesplitter777 I full run is like 45 min lol
That's enough time to beat it. It's literally the exact opposite of console gaming norms. Just play a little whenever and the save doesn't matter. It's 100% pick up and go. The game saves some permanent upgrades etc. It's not like it's a reset every time lol
Heya, thanks for the content ! Is there any word on whether this will be coming to PC please ?
a shooter that doesnt focus on stealth. we love to see it
I come here already knowing most of the time whether I'm buying a game or not but I still respect your opinion so much. Thanks again for coming through.
never heard of this title but i love what smaller devs are doing the gameplay certainly looks fun i’ll definitely check it out some time in the future
Thanks for the review! I can't wait to dive in later today!
