      Sarah Jane was the only other character besides the Doctor that knows how devious and savagely brutal Davros is.
      She knew that having the Daleks on Earth in vast numbers was a nightmare situation on their own.
      Adding in Davros on top of the danger, is far worse, because there is no low Davros will not sink to to get his way.

      @@mayotango1317 In my opinion, A lot of the things that Chibnalls run does wrong were started in Moffats run. AKA the Daleks, the Doctor basically becoming a god known everywhere throughout space and time and making the time lords seem kinda plain. RTD's era actually felt like an alien and human companion having adventures in the vastness of time and space. Characters actually felt real and the Doctor had to actually find ways out of situations, instead of just saying "I am the Doctor" and scaring all his enemies off. Moffat really made the Doctor seem too omnipotent. But yeah, Chibnall has really written the show into the ground now.

      I'll admit that after seeing The Thing, it's clear WoM is almost a direct rip off. However, those last 15 minutes are still a masterpiece. I'm far from being an emotional person, and I never cared much about anyone on that base, but the Doctor hearing them die as he walks away is a moment so full of dread, disbelief, sorrow, regret, hopelessness, and so much more.
      On top of that, this episode holds the only moment in Doctor Who history in which I've ever been afraid: at the end, when the "Time Lord Victorious" appears. This moment is far "darker" than the entirety of Capaldi's era. We realize just how far the Doctor could go and see he no longer cares about the consequences of time. Truly terrifying. This episode, better than any other, shows us why the Doctor needs someone by his side. Not just because he's lonely, but also because, as Donna says, he needs someone to stop him.
      This episode is powerful due to what it reveals about the Doctor and _how_ it is revealed. Great writing, great directing, great acting, great editing, and superb ending. Without a doubt, one of my favorites...

      Honestly I just miss when Doctor Who had other significant characters beside the Doctor and his current companion that made ANY kind of crossover or cameo or callback possible.
      People like to shit on Russel T. Davies for having kind of "kiddy" episodes, but one thing I always appreciated about his run was how well-grounded the show was in long-running characters. Each companion had a distinct and developed family who actually mattered and played a part in the story. They had friends, jobs, homes which made it possible for us to witness the "civilian view" whenever someone was attacking Earth, and they had long-term impacts beyond their individual departure from the show.
      And on top of that, a lot of the other non-companion characters were also very fleshed out and well-defined. We just don't get memorable characters like Harriet Jones or Wilfred Mott any more, every side character just shows up for their respective episode and then is never seen again.

    • @hagridmary
      @hagridmary 6 ปีที่แล้ว +47

      Wolf6120, couldn't agree more. RTD made Earth feel like the actual Earth with real people on it who had real lives. He established locations there like the companion's home (like you mentioned) where many scenes took place - which made the companion more relatable to the audience. I like what you said about the ''civilian view'' as well - the human race was used many times by RTD almost as a character with footage of news broadcasts from around the world.
      None of the above could be seen in Moffat's run and I think it's a contributing factor to the show's decline in quality.

The DW fandom is so polarized by "Moffat is shit, RTD is shit" and it's like... both showrunners had awesome strengths and weaknesses too, so pls let's not focus so much negative energy on "X's companions suck, X plot is terrible," etc. Not saying opinions aren't entitled! I personally really dislike the new, chibnall seasons, but not because I'm trying to jump on the bandwagon, because I personally think the new seasons have terrible writing, and I personally hate the timeless child twist. You can like the new era of the show, as you can have your own opinion. I wouldn't say everyone who hates the new seasons is just apart of mob mentality.

    Seeing how excited they got by this episode made me really miss the RTD era. I still adore it to this day. Tennant is MY Doctor, Donna is MY companion, and RTD era is MY Doctor Who. I miss the excitement I had for the show back then. It was my EVERYTHING. Hopefully I'll get some of that excitement back soon 😉
    I'm so happy we'll get the next ep tomorrow (THANK YOU!!) but also kind of dreading it 😢 I've seen 4x13 a million times (and cried. Every. Damn. Time.) but I'm still not emotionally ready!
    I think this is my favourite DW reaction of theirs so far!

    You guys should watch the 4th Doctor episode Genesis of the Daleks. It introduces Davros and is generally considered the first salvo in the Time War. It’s an all time classic episode.

    • @vdesatch6273
      @vdesatch6273 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      isaacc7 Pretty much every Davros episode got added into the Time War, didn't it?
      Time Lords try to end Daleks
      Daleks resurrect Davros
      Daleks try to invade Gallifrey
      Davros grows new Daleks
      Skaro is destroyed.

    • @isaacc7
      @isaacc7 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Greppellio Well, from our perspective it was the first volley. And that is how an actual time war should be fought. Using causality as a weapon, re-writing history in an effort to erase enemies. Big Finish tied into it as well in their Gallifrey series.

    THE HYPE IS REAL!!!! :D Doctor Who, Sarah Jane, Torchwood and everyone combining together is probably the most exciting and hyped event to ever occur in this series! Definitely one of the top tier moments of the series! So amazing! Seeing all these characters join forces, meet each other and fight against the Daleks for survival was awesome! I’m so glad you guys watched both The Sarah Jane Adventures and Torchwood because it enhances this episode even more now that you have that knowledge of the characters from the spin offs! Everything comes in full circle! So many highlights! Sarah Jane’s reaction to the Daleks; The subwave network webcam communication; The Doctor reuniting with Rose; Wilf and The Doctor being shot by the Dalek! Aaaaaarggggh! I’m so glad you guys were satisfied with this episode! Shane, Aaron and Calvin’s reactions were so good! Haha! I can’t wait to see the reaction to the final part tomorrow!
