@@timothy6049 A CTR S Grade did this a second slower. BMW's main competition is Mercedes and Audi, and the RS3 was faster. Despite having AWD, the RS3 weighs less, and is down on power over the M2. This is a second slower than a 500hp Z28 Camaro from 2013 (10 years ago). The M2 weighs 3,800 lbs now, and is basically a SWB M4 with the same weight. Nothing special here.

Actually do u really know what compact is? It’s about fitting a a lot in a small space, so if it’s weighs even more that means it’s even more compact, definitely makes it a worse car but compact doesn’t mean light weight

That's why this is no longer an M2. An M2 is supposed to be a handful to handle - that is its character. This new version is quick but doesn't make it the best. Weighs more than a previous gen M5. BMW have the ingredients all wrong for this latest car (notice I didn't say M2 because its not one).

You can tell a great driver for making time look… easy and fluid between turns. Also great job BMW, for making a car that can be a daily driver AND beat yesterdays super cars.
I have watched countless videos on boards, tutorials, 100s of laps i iracing, and i have to say this is some of the best and sharpest driving ive seen yet, taught me a few things!
But the suspension feels like shit on the road exactly because manufacturers like BMW tune the car for Nordschleife lap times and not for every day comfort. I bought a 2020 M2C but the ride was terrible, I sold it after only 5,000 miles. The older M cars were far more comfortable. The Nordschleife lap time tuning is ruining modern sports cars.

I along with many other people do not agree with the way M is going with their designs and just their cars overall, but the M2 is an exception. It looks really weird, but it’s pretty cool. And this lap is very impressive too.

Don't like the way it looks. Don't like the way it sounds. Don't like the fact it's turbocharged. Don't like the engine reving up to just 6.5k. And most of all, don't like the fact that it weighs more than 1.7 tons! BUT: I have to say, that performance is really impressive.
All credits to BMW but you still gotta give it to the Civic Type R, A whole ass 135 HP Down (44%) but only 6 second slower than this as the M2 Pulled a whole 3 seconds Over the Civic on the last straight
The Civic Type R was actually a factory modified Type R S Grade that is stripped in the interior and is lighter than the regular Type R. It doesn't even have an infotainment system. And then you have a Civic that you spent over 50k on.
As these guys said, the civic wasn't stock. The CTR posted within 1 mph of a 400hp PDK Carrera 4S on the long straight. Sounds like a lot of extra boost to me!
This car is amazing, but the people that drive this track are something else. Like these dudes do your best lap on the sim but in real life. Like what?!

Mostly tires made the difference between the Lambo, and @@B__L I think you mean 1 second slower. The Honda CTR S Grade did it in a second slower using the same tire (MPSC2) and some light weighting (probably less than 50lbs), but it really goes to show what 800lbs less weight can do for handling. Audi RS3 was faster too, which says a lot considering it is AWD and the M2 is not, yet the M2 is heavier. Back to the drawing room boys.
Always been curious with these new BMWs, especially M models, what is the thumping sound on upshifts particularly the higher rpm upshifts? May be a dumb question but certainly sounds different then other cars.
You can clearly see the tires and suspension are doing all the work, and still its even clearer this car is too heavy, if it werent for those cup2’s the car would be understeering all over the place, it doesnt point its nose like any other F generation M model

Very impressive. Sacrifice car's weight by adding half of M4's parts and with that ruining the whole idea of the 2 series just to beat a 15-yo 997 is a true testament.
Beautiful little car doing amazing things in skillful hands. I've had Beemers for over 30 years now and have always been happy with them. In 2010 I sold my almost mint 964 (had a family) and traded an earlier 3-series in for a family-oriented X1 (manual turbo-diesel with suspension kit etc.). It's no Porsche but the driving standard is very high and I instantly loved piloting the X1. Very much made for drivers by drivers. Cheers and thank you - Dave

@@KH-mn3si Yes, it does have some mass, that's for sure. However, its dimensions are not vast compared to its older siblings. I can imagine you'd go through consumables quickly with some spirited driving.
@@deldridg The dimensions are ok, but it's too heavy. The tires will not last several rounds on a test track and at the end these cars are made to drive on a racetrack as well.

If you slow the playback to 1/2 or 1/4 and watch the brake and throttle bars, you can really see how he uses trail braking to max effect!

Relies too much on tires not that fast acceleration wise but has obviously great handling and balance like all BMW have.
thats why they put cup 2's on it. I don't think standard tires will survive 1 or 2 laps like this on this car.
Every performance car relies heavily on tyres. The wrong tyres will impact even the quickest car. Grip is everything.
@@wdbsurfer yes, what i wanted to say is that modern heavy sports cars rely too much on power and that eats tires fast, older lighter cars don't eat tires that fast.
@@wdbsurfer if you switch from road tires to semi slicks on a heavy car it makes much more of a difference than doing the same on a lighter car.
Very impressive. Sacrifice car's weight by adding half of M4's parts and with that ruining the whole idea of the 2 series just to beat a 15-yo 997 is a true testament.

Beautiful little car doing amazing things in skillful hands. I've had Beemers for over 30 years now and have always been happy with them. In 2010 I sold my almost mint 964 (had a family) and traded an earlier 3-series in for a family-oriented X1 (manual turbo-diesel with suspension kit etc.). It's no Porsche but the driving standard is very high and I instantly loved piloting the X1. Very much made for drivers by drivers. Cheers and thank you - Dave

@@KH-mn3si Yes, it does have some mass, that's for sure. However, its dimensions are not vast compared to its older siblings. I can imagine you'd go through consumables quickly with some spirited driving.
@@deldridg The dimensions are ok, but it's too heavy. The tires will not last several rounds on a test track and at the end these cars are made to drive on a racetrack as well.
