[119] Getting Started with Alcohol Inks - part 2

  • This is a tutorial that is good for beginners or those struggling with getting the hang of this softer, wispy, abstract style of alcohol ink painting. I try explain what I am doing and why as much as I can. I apologize that it can be a little hard to hear me over the sound of the hairdryer, but I didn't realize this until editing. I hope this video is helpful to those of you who watch it. I will at some point be doing a part 3 showing how to do one with more of a center line running through the painting since I get asked about that quite a bit.

    Why do you put your brass ink into the quilling glue bottle instead of using the bottle it comes in?

      I wish I could, but I just don’t have time to use Google translate to do subtitles in other languages. I only know a very small amount of Spanish and not enough to translate a video into that lol. Sadly, I don’t know French at all. I’m very sorry!

    Hi! Do you just add your metallics or pearls to needle tip bottles because its easier to use or do you mix them with something else in those bottle? Thx so much for these tutorials

      It’s just easier to use a needle tip bottle. I get my brass in 4 ounce bottles that don’t have an applicator tip of any kind on them.

    That really is quite lovely. Your tutorials are excellent and informative. I have an airbrush, I wonder if that would work as well as your dryer? Hi Lorrie - I've been following your art work. I love how the pinata brass is artfully incorporated. My brass doesn't do that. Either it blends and mixes with the color or it is an appealing blob. I use Grafix plastic. If i use Nara paper or another substrate will that produce a more artistic brass look like yours? I 've been struggling and trying differnet techniques. Ready to give up on brass even tho I love it!!! Appreciate any help! Thank you!!

    Hi Lorrie, I have been watching your videos for a few months now and I really enjoy them. I watched your video on using a stencil to embellish one of your pieces and I tried it today, however I didn't realize until I was finished that I had not sealed my picture. Can I seal it now once the stencil has dried? I appreciate any information you can share with me. Thanks 😀

    • @LorrieBrewer
      @LorrieBrewer  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      You can definitely seal it after you stencil. I just like to seal mine first so I don’t worry so much about accidentally scratching or smudging the inks while doing the stenciling.

      Hi Lorrie...I have another question if you don't mind. I went ahead and embellished my picture using the glass medium and stencil, but now I notice some smudging marks around it. What I want to know is, should I give it another coat of sealant, then once it's mounted on a board if I pour resin over it, will the smudging marks show through? Do you have an email address where maybe I could send you a picture? My explanation isn't to clear I know. Sorry..thank you 🙂

    Hi. I really like your works. I have only approached this technique for a few weeks and the results are often disappointing. I follow your wonderful tutorials ti learn. Unfortunately, I’m Italian and I don’t know English and I try ti learn from the pictures. I can’t give that bristle effect. Can you give me some advice? I thank you and I stil give you many compliments. LELLA

      @LorrieBrewer  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I am sorry you are feeling frustrated with your art. I still feel that way sometimes. It takes a lot of practice to really get the hang of it and some days the ink just doesn’t want to cooperate lol. My biggest advice is to make sure you do not put your air source directly over your ink and alcohol. You need to direct the inks from the side, not from the top, or it will be too hard to control. I hope this helps you a little bit.

      I used the 99%. I always use it as long as I can find it. Anymore, I only use the 91% if I run out of 99%. It helps with the moisture beading a little bit.
