    I’m an 1102 with the Corps of Engineers on a 7/9/11 promotion ladder. It is very challenging and there is A LOT to learn. No degree can really prepare you for government contracting.
    The certification courses are currently all done on line so no more traveling to Alabama.
    The Corps gives you a very well rounded contracting experience compared to many other agencies. We do a lot of vertical and horizontal construction plus a variety of supply and service based contracts for DoD.

      I'm just starting a deployment as a COR and really interested in 1102 fed work (or Tour of Duty jobs for oconus COR greensuiters) after my unit goes home.

      You are correct that no degree is catered to 1102. I would add that the ability to become a successful contracting professional really is predicated on the ability to apply critical thinking skills, make decisions (or recommendations to the KO), and being able to stand behind those decisions or recommendations. Good luck on your 1102 journey!

      I'm actually pursuing a degree in Government Contracts and Acquisitions and I'm curious what pay grade I would start at. The degree is actually catered to 1102 (more on Defense from my understanding), but everywhere I've read says that you need a masters degree in some sort of business, economics, etc. to be higher.

    2210 is the best job series. You can easily transfer skills to the private sector. Demand for coders and AI people will only increase. The 5.31% raise was nice for 2024.

    I’m a contract specialist in the Army. I’m happy this field is in demand. Got 4 years left until i ETS. Definitely a smooth transition into a GS12 or 13 position.

    That's nice that the federal gov splits up pre-award and post-award. Breaks up a lot of the leg work.

  • @r3o
    @r3o 8 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

    The 1102 series is definitely not for everyone. You stay within the boundary of federal acquisition regs while using analysis and creativity to meet program objectives, and there arent very clear metrics by which you can be appraised because of how broad the duties can be that metrics just cannot illustrate. The benefits are largely in how many 1102 jobs there are out there (due to retirements and turnover) and the opportunity to apply critical thinking skills regularly if that floats your boat. I rarely go a day without learning something new or having a new issue to resolve.
    I would also add that the gentleman in your example only got a small glimpse of the 1102 world if he only worked in contract administration. DCMA and like contract admin offices are fine to start, but the work could get monotonous down the road, especially if you work primarily small dollar buys.

    0343 is the best series, talk about transferring skills to private sector or making it all the way to GS15

  • @RobertBeedle

    0343 is best if you don’t know anything. Started as a GS4 and now I’m a GS13 with GS14 in one year.

      @@PianoKeyzOfficial most fully remote for new employees I've seen are HR or Cyber folks with impressive resumes. Remote are given mostly to people who have proven themselves with vast experience or years in federal service. This field requires prior experience but vastly differs on requirements per agency.
      What do you mean by jump in salary?

    Weirdly enough, it is either you work a government job and are overloaded with work to meet deadlines and if you can do that, you have job security. Or you are in the private sector, fighting it out each day with the threat of a layoff over your shoulder.
    Working, in general, may be something people may not like to do; however, one needs money to be able to live well.

  • @Sp7ce

    I personally hate this series. Its in high demand, but the workload is insane. I did an internship as a Contract Specialist and it was brutal. 0343 is the way to go. I came in as 12 and a year later im a 13, not a ladder position but by transferring agencies.

    I keep applying for a 0343 with an MBA and an MA (both with 3.8+ GPAs) and 8+ years of experience in local government doing similar work and even being a manger and don't get calls back.. I feel like it is fake! I'm always in the "eligible" or "most qualified" stack but no calls. Would it be easier to get one of these if I was an 1102? I want to be at least a GS13

      That means the hiring manager is reading your resume and putting it into the “no interview/not selected” stack. I’d recommend doing a lot of research on Reddit, TH-cam, etc. on how to write a comprehensive federal resume that aligns with each job announcement’s requirements.

    Can Six Sigma Certifications get you a GS 13 14 and or 15

    • @RobertBeedle
      @RobertBeedle 8 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      You’re lucky that I found this comment. My former boss is one of the top rated six sigma master black belts in the DoD. The short answer is no, she is a GS13 and hardly uses six sigma. It’s not a great thing anymore. I would not bother with it.
      I highly recommend studying for the PMP and trying to get a job at the DOE with special attention to EVMS. You can start at an 11-13 and move up quick with a bit of drive.
      If you can’t get a PMP go for the ACP.
      Study any regulations in the department you want to work in. You can find them all online before an interview. Mostly for common vocabulary.

      @robbeedle2536 I'll look into it as well. I'm a GS 12 Step 2. From what I've been informed that degrees never gotten you salary increases just a bullet point. According to OPM what I read was a bachelors got you a GS 05 and Masters a GS 09. It's more of experience you have in a field of work and certifications now. What I'm seeing is alot of certifications out there lurking that can land you high six figures as contractors and or gs 11 12 13 14 15's I got lean six sigma green and black belt in specialty in Logistics in which I was for 17 years in the US Army. I know several with both green and black belts got salary increases in their line of work from those lean six sigma certifications too
