    Tesla owner here.
    The supercharger experience is very seamless. No app, and your car automatically connects WiFi.
    Every supercharging station has WiFi there.
    But to charge, all you do is back into a spot and plug in and that’s about it. Only thing that makes the experience better is to precondition the battery (by selecting the charging station as a destination in navigation). When battery is preconditioned and below like 40% charger I can get like 130kw output from the charger consistently.

    I pulled 97 kW with my Ioniq 5 a couple of days ago at the Red Hook, NY Supercharger -- Was 42kW only 2-3 weeks prior. It felt like progress and I hope the speeds stay higher!

    I recently tried a new Magic Dock equipped SuperCharger in Colorado. The highest power I saw was 42-44 kw. It is nice to have more options but presently it is at best a back up option. CCS options for the I5 are currently far more available and higher powered than Magic Dock equipped SuperChargers. All that might change.

      Easy and quick initiation comes from putting card readers on kiosks not whitelisting every new car and owner’s card info into Tesla’s system. Just make it work like a gas station

    my understanding is that v3 supercharger is limited to 400V. v4 supercharger will support 800V. with an 800V eGMP car, the car's internal boost converter is limited to ~41kW. so options are hyundai upgrades boost converter for more power or tesla upgrades supercharger to v4. it is for this limitation that i think hyundai has been reluctant to jump on board NACS connector as all the OEMs that have announced move to NACS are 400V architecture.

      Not true. My HI5 gets 50kW from a Tritium 400V 50kW charger and nearly 100kW from a V2 Tesla charger, but only 42kW from a V3 Tesla. The issue is in the communication with the V3 charger. The car can convert 400V to 800V on board at least close to 100kW.

    Hi dear, so even here in America you charge max at 42 kw, like here in Italy. I thought it was better from you, but all things considered, it's not worth charging from Tesla: firstly because it goes slowly, secondly it's more expensive with the latest increases.     It’s a bit more complicated than just programming. They’ll need to implement chargers that handle 400 and 800v cars, which of course EA does, but we know how reliable they are

    As a non-Tesla owner, I do know they don't need an app and just plug it in and it handles everything which is great for EVs that have the ability for plug and charge. The Ioniq 6 apparently has the ability to plug and charge, but not with Electrify America for some reason. Looking forward to the announcement from Hyundai and hopefully it won't take too long to patch the V3 superchargers to get closer to the normal 215 kWh this EV is capable of on those machines.

      The only way we will get 200+ speeds at Tesla is if they up the voltage to 800+
      Perhaps on v4 Superchargers?

    Thanks for updating us on the Tesla magic dock charger. I have a 2023 Ioniq 5. I agree with you that Tesla is testing this out. I can’t be hanging around for over an hour to charge my car. I’ll stick with EA CHARGING STATIONS for now. Sounds like either Tesla is careful of what they’re doing or just to make this difficult for the non Tesla vehicles. That’s my take. So far I’ve enjoyed your videos. I really do appreciate your presentations on the ioniq 5

    Thanks for sharing the experience. Wonder if another dispenser would have done better? We visit the Delaware shore area where there are no operating CCS DCFC but there are numerous Tesla SuC stations. Hoping for some Magic Docks soon. The Tesla to CCS adapter would be a great addition for this area as well.

    70 degrees is very cold for a Tesla battery. My preconditioning usually gets me around 115F

      Interesting. Ioniq 5 preconditions to 70 but heats up pretty quickly once it has 240kW flowing into it. Maybe it’s purposefully kept cooler than ideal because of that quick increase in

      @@TheIoniqGuyit’s because teslas ramp up amps outside normal range. This is “safe” for Teslas bc they’ll fully charge before they overheat. The ioniq (and every non-Tesla car) has an amp limiter as a safety feature so it’ll never get hot at a Tesla charger, it’s amp and volt limited

    It's even better as a Tesla owner because there is no app to do any of that you just plug and go and the charging on V3 starts in less than 7 seconds less than 15 on V2

    This is a known issue that with Hyundai's 800v it will only draw max 50 kwh at Tesla Superchargers. Supposedly there will be software updates to address this. Most likely the V4 Superchargers will have this resolved.

      You can get only 42kW (not 'kWh') from V3, but 98kW from older V2.

    The charging speed issue with our cars is a software update that Tesla will be having to fix. They are supposedly going to fix this.

    Hey Ioniq Guy, Thanks for looking after us! This station will be valuable for me while traveling between Killington and CT. I have an EV6. Do you know if battery preconditioning cools the battery in preparation for charging or is only for winter? I just got the preconditioning update so I am feeling things out.

    When the magic docks first came out the chargers would try to go over 50kw and then it would fail. I’m curious if it’s just limited to under 50kw or it was just a 1 time issue

      Plugshare without a doubt. Has every station as well as upcoming stations. User uploaded photos and statuses of stations. It's a treasure trove of charger information. Highly reccomend.

      I imagine you already have your answer but in case anyone else comes across this you can use an adaptor when using a level two Tesla charger, but at the time I’m writing this there is no adaptor for a level 3 charger for an Ioniq 5. The 2025 Ioniq 5 probably has the Tesla port so it will work with a level 2 tesla charger without an adaptor but I’m guessing that initially it won’t work with the level 3 superchargers, but will get that ability, I’m hoping, within say 6 months. Just making up 6 months as it sounds reasonable. Maybe it will be faster when you have an actual NACS port on the car. The Hyundai will be the first non Tesla with an NACS port I think so it’s new territory.

    Tesla is waiting to sell more of their cars. They can’t have competitor cars charging faster than their own cars at Tesla chargers.

    Really annoying Tesla hasn't done any Magic Dock installations anywhere in Canada. It's also annoying how there is so little DC fast charging options in the entire province of Ontario outside of Toronto. Sure there's a bunch of level 2 chargers but I don't grocery shop for 8hrs to get up to a decent state of charge and given that I live in a condo, there's no option to charge at home on anything other than a standard 110 wall plug (and even then I have to run a long extension cable down to the parking lot which is a safety hazard). It would be nice if companies realized whenever they throw in a level 2 charger in to their properties that maybe 1 or 2 DC fast charging options would also be ideal. Plenty of people need to be able to charge for a 20-30min trip to the grocery store or coffee shop.....I don't want to stay at either place for 8+ hours.

      @@TheIoniqGuy That's a good point and I never really considered the total price. Looking at my bill, if I include all distribution and tax charges, my actual rate is .22328, but with my time of use rate, it is .18723
      I'm not sure why I never really considered the total fee, but I absolutely should be. They do a good job of advertising the "TOU Rate of only .06378!!!" but don't factor in those other fees.
      Makes it more attractive for me to hang out at EA (it's along my work route anyways) and continue getting my free charging.

      Ugh, I did my math all wrong. My actual rate is 15.902 cents. My time of use rate is 12.297 cents. Still double what I thought it actually was, but not as bad as yours.

      Yeah you have to divide you bill total by the number of kWh you bought. I do have solar though so I haven't have an electric bill since April (besides the $10 connection fee) but during the winter when they're not producing much I still pay about 0.22/kWh. I'm locked in at 0.12/kWh for the next 12 months through a 3rd party supplier. We don't have time of use here in CT unfortunately.

      My plan as of right now is that I’ll keep this Ioniq 5 at least until the mid-cycle refresh is released next fall at which point I’ll likely trade it in for another one. I have my heart set on getting another vehicle for the channel, whether that is another Hyundai/Kia/Genesis hasn’t been decided. The Kia EV9 and EV5 have both piqued my interest. I will continue evaluating other automakers cars in the mean time to see how they stack up to the Ioniq 5

    2:11 isn’t this exactly how the EA app works? In my experience it’s pull up to the charger, plug in, pick the station and swipe “start charging” on my phone. Takes about 25-30 seconds. Never done it any other way.

    It should be pointed out that the primary reason for 800 volt architecture is to lessen the amperage, and with that, lower heat production and enable a smaller wire size in the vehicle. It is not to allow “double” the charging speed, although some increase in max charging power is often encountered.

    With the E-GMP platform you currently will get maximum charging speeds on V2: 98 kW, V3: 42 kW and V4: 42 kW.

      @@MrMmccune Not exactly sure about the details, but its got something to do with how the Supercharger Power Unit distributes power to each connector.

    It's just better than EA. My experience at EA has mostly been wait 15-40 minutes for an available charger plus 20-30 minutes charging at about 80kW. EA has been better and worse at times, but this is about average. My worst experience included finding 3 of 6 chargers UNAVAILABLE, and waiting an hour only to find the remaining 3 chargers limited to around 70kW. The best experience was pulling up to an available charger that peaked at 235kW, and I'm out in fewer than 20 minutes.
    From what you've shown, it doesn't seem like Tesla chargers would be any faster than EA for my Ioniq 5.

    I have an Ioniq 5. When the EA station is fully working, I start the EA app, I plug in my car, touch my phone to the wireless symbol, and that is it. What is so bad about that?

      Like I said, I’ve had great experiences with EA when it does work and terrible experiences when it doesn’t. It’s not rock solid most of the time and that’s the problem

      And technically you don't even have to open the EA app if you have it in your apple wallet ;) - Just plug in and tap. It's fantastic when it works.

      If you’re referring to the built in map I highly doubt any of them are listed. The Tesla app now allows non-Tesla drivers to look for Magic Docks

    Hi, thank you so much for making this video. I have a question: How do you set up a Tesla account for your IONIQ 5 in order for Tesla to recognize the car and bill you? Asking for a friend who has this car, since I'm a Tesla owner.

      You can’t charge at Superchargers yet. You can only use superchargers that have the magic dock. They should be able to make an account if that’s what they’re looking to use.

    The Tesla app lists the Ioniq 5, but not the Ioniq 6. For my Ioniq 6, can I just select Ioniq 5? I will be checking out the only magic dock in Texas (Arlington) on a road trip to see the Rangers play the Cubs. I would appreciate any feedback on Ioniq 6 magic dock experiences!

    Maybe I am lucky but I rarely if even have an issue with EA. My last charge got me 60kwh in 28 minutes with peak charging at 243 kw.

    My experience in Europe is: with Tesla V3 I charge 42Kw while with V2 I was able to charge at 100Kw...

    V3 and V4 does not work in Europa on ioniq!! Elon said firmware will be delayed up till december.

    Thanks. Sounds like this station has been opened for a week or two. The app says these are 250 kWh chargers. Actually, the cost at Big Y is $0.41/kWh. The $0.21/kWh at your home is good for CT. I’m paying $0.25-$0.26/kWh with Eversource. $0.13/kWh for supply and close to $0.13/kWh for delivery (excluding the monthly Eversource fixed charge close to $9.50). New England uses natural gas to generate electricity which is a lot more expensive than coal burning states.

      My rates in Oklahoma are .14/kWh, and 33% of the grid power is from wind turbines. Only one coal plant in the state, the rest are natural gas. Unfortunately, only a handful of Tesla superchargers in the entire state, none with Magic Docks.

    If you can find a Supercharger v2 with magic dock, you will probably get about 100kW if the battery temp is in good range.

    My model y charges at 1000 miles per hour. I added 100 miles in little over 10 mins. That’s what people want.

    2:06 With Tesla it's much easier, because you don't need an app and handshake is much faster. In Europe CCS2, we get that 40+ kW's from V3 and about hundred from V2 Superchargers (Ioniq 5).

    Also, with a Tesla ecosystem, you don’t even get the app out. You don’t even touch the car! You just move the cable to the car, press a membrane button on the handle, the charge port opens, you plug in and that’s it.
    Also, native Tesla charging is currently much faster. It’ll get there for the other brands. Also, on most Superchargers, if another car is charging at your paired supercharger (1A & 1B, 2A & 2B, etc.) you lose a substantial amount of available current. This doesn’t occur on the latest chargers

    Not unexpected and be assured Tesla could have had our IONIQ’s charging at its peak kilowatt of 234kW from day one, but there’s no advantage in doing that. They just needed the heard of slow charging vehicle manufacturers on board and got just that. They say necessity is the mother of invention and so for Tesla this charging issue is not even pregnant.🎯 5:15

    Glad to see this working! The interface needs tweaking to get it up to full charging speed, and I bet the Hyundai engineers are working on that right now. Lots of commenters claim that Superchargers won't work with 800V E-GMP, but that's obviously not true. Your car can charge from 350kW, 150kW, and even 50kW chargers, so I don't see why 250kW Superchargers should pose a problem. I would expect that Hyundai will now announce the adoption of NACS, like the other automakers. Apparently Ford has provided NACS-to-CCS1 adapters to 500 F-150 Lightning Beta testers this week, so hopefully those adapters will soon be available. Fingers crossed!

      Because watts (kW) is a product of Volts and Amps. Tesla chargers charge Teslas fast because they use low voltage but ramp up the amps to a degree the rest of the industry considers dangerous, while everyone else has a standard threshold of amps and adjust the voltage.
      Because Tesla knows the battery capacity and therefore the charge times of Tesla cars, they can engineer it to where there’s no risk (think like putting a casserole in the oven at 900 degrees for 10 mins instead of 300 for 30, and it works out).
      Every non-Tesla car will want high voltage decent amps. So voltage is limited by the charger (per its design) and amps are limited by the car (for safety and temp regulation).
      On top of this, the voltage isn’t dropped by an arbitrary amount. Different cars handle this in different ways but most will either undercurrent or undervolt to charge at a more comfy speed
      This isn’t an interface issue it’s hardware. It isn’t something Hyundai will want to “fix” (which means removing the amp limiter aka a safety feature) unless they want their cars to overheat and catch fire. The issue from the Tesla network being made for Tesla cars and no one else, so putting a cake in at 900 degrees for 10 minutes will not work the same way as a casserole, it’ll just burn with no leavening
