Idea for the next version: 1: Different wiper arm lengths to accommodate more cars without windshield wipers. 2: Qi charging through the magnet on the inside if the window. You can plug into the magnet instead of having to remove it every time you have to recharge. May also provide the potential for a "hard wired" solution without the need for a battery or drilling. Edit: I didn't think about the heated windshield being an issue for the Qi charging idea. A comment below clarified this.
2. Would mean you need to replace the heated windscreen to regular glass, you can’t have a metallic surface in between without making ‘eddy’ go crazy. So not a practical idea.
@Reprint001 why wouldn't they give it a solar panel??? Where I live rains 100 days a year, but there's still often gaps every few days. Enough to fully charge the battery.
I really appreciate you explaining the big difference between the pre-production model and the production model. I think a lot of people assume the production model will be better, when in fact they could be different due to different materials used or made via a different process since the process used to make the pre-production versions would take too long or be way too expensive to make the production versions.
This seems cool, but when I wish I had a rear wiper, what I really mean is I want to use the window washer to clean the rear window while I'm driving. This isn't going to help in Chicago winters where I need to wash off the road salt. I really haven't noticed a problem seeing out the back due to rain.
There are aftermarket rearview camera or headlamp washers already that you could adapt to use if you want. Obviously it would need to have wiring and holes etc... put in for installation of the reservoir, pump, and the sprayer head, so it is more work than this, but for some applications it is worth it.
@@89five3five I don't see a feasible option to add a water container to this already bulky design. I just finished backing a different Kickstarter this morning, and I’ll have to wait until getting home tonight to back this one. Luckily where I live in New Mexico weather isn’t too extreme, but this is exactly what I need for those occasions when a wiper is required.
Rear wiper is not my main issue. So far, rear window remains clean enough (2024 Ioniq SE AWD). But the rear manual lift gate opens to a height that is higher than a standard American garage. So it crashes into the garage door track. I understand the SEL (and above), with automatic lift gate open/close, can be adjusted. Can you do a video about how to limit the manual lift gate? Are garages bigger in Korea? Why would they make the lift gate too high for an American market? Absolutely love the car, btw. Getting over 4 miles per KWH on road trips, to my big surprise (summer). Smooth, quiet, fast when you need it, practical, and efficient. Best car ever.
Cool and I was surprised more options like this weren't available for other cars that are hatchback/SUV shaped that don't have a wiper. For me, a way to clean the rear camera when it rains would be great since I only need it when backing up a few times during a rain storm.
Maybe have the charging port available through the magnetic mount on the back and allow conduction charging using a power bank so you don't have to remove it ever? Maybe also make the wiper blade adjustable to fit smaller rear windows like the byd seagull.

I'm not buying this wiper as it's only for rain which isn't that annoying to me. The most annoying thing is the dirt in the fall/winter/spring and this doesn't have any washer fluid and will just scratch the window. Rear window is covered pretty much 6 months at a time from dirt in my country.
Neat idea. I think for me here in Minnesota I need a rear window washer also. Without that a wiper is useless. I wonder how long the battery will last during extreme cold. For me, I use the side mirrors and don't worry about the back window getting dirty if I were honest. I have had other vehicles that you can't see out the back of anytime I am carrying stuff that blocks the view and it's not a big deal to me.

Just bought the 2024 Ioniq 5 Limited with the camera based digital rear view display. I have to wonder if having that will suffer with a dirty rear view window. What I have not heard anyone talk about is the camera based rear view display is very tough on my aging eyes. You are changing focus from looking forward at something far away to effectively a flat panel just a foot away, requiring to refocus your eyes. Very challenging for a 60 something person. Hopefully I can get used to it.
Neat Idea. That being said, I keep my Ioniq 5 spotless, and I have a lot of experience with left and right side view mirrors. That, coupled with blind-spot sensing is fine for my purposes. I don't think the $459 cost would be justified. One less wiper blade to buy.
Sad he hasn't put a rain sensor in the Black middle part. Then you would only have to turn it on if needed, and it automatically wipes if wet enough. Furthermore, It would be cool if it has QI charging so you could put a charging pad on the inside, and it will run forever plugged in into the 12V port in the trunk.
Owners of older Ioniq 5s will welcome this accessory, no doubt. I doubt I'll invest in one myself, however, simply because my 2024 Limited has a digital rear view mirror, which (in my opinion) is already great solution to clearly see behind the vehicle.

hmm i would just wait till it shows up on a Chinese website for 10% the cost. the whole backstory reeks of a factory which is about to spin up cheap production but wants to use kickstart to drop ship out of a european address for a huge markup
I can see how this would be good for some people so I'm happy Ioniq 5 owners will have the option. I'd want it to be a design where you would never need to take it off, so I'd want to be able to charge it without taking it off. Maybe even a little meter on it to show where the charge is so you don't have to wait for it to run out to know the battery is dead. He could give it 4 little lights like the Morse code for h.
Neat idea, but what would make this even better is if it had a rain sensor. Needing to use a remote to activate it is a pain... Also, would be cool if the engineer of this could find a way to power it through the magnetic puck.. Almost like MagSafe... That way it can just be powered by the vehicle and no need to charge it.. Maybe in a V2.
@@ev6-joerg Yes but those people know can be unscrewed. Rear wipers people know can not be simply unscrewed, so they're not going to attempt it in the first place.

I'd want it to be a design where you would never need to take it off, so I'd want to be able to charge it without taking it off. Maybe even a little meter on it to show where the charge is so you don't have to wait for it to run out to know the battery is dead. He could give it 4 little lights like the Morse code for h.
Better if it could be charged on the car. Perhaps via an induction coil through the glass?
Love this, as that is the one gripe I have about my Ioniq 5, this is getting my backing for sure
I was looking forward to this! Thanks for showing it to us! Seriously considering backing this.
Wont really know how good it is until the winter salt and muck is out
I hope they can incorporate a wireless charger around the magnet so it can be stationed there permanently
Wouldn’t it be a problem on direct sunlight?
This would be cool to install on a windshield of a side by side. ATV
Yo my chevy volt needs this
Can you put this on a Mercedes
First new "UFO" Honda Civic didn't have rear wiper. Few releases later they admitted they were wrong and reintroduced the wiper 😊
How do you want to make this construction theft-proof? I think it can be removed relatively easily with a spatula.
the real question: how many thieves run around with spatulas?
No one is going to steal this or even understand that it can be stolen in the first place.
@@swecreations In Germany it's different. The roof antenna was unscrewed from my wife's car and stolen.
@@ev6-joerg Yes but those people know can be unscrewed. Rear wipers people know can not be simply unscrewed, so they're not going to attempt it in the first place.
Unfortunately it's a bit too expensive for something that won't add resale value to your car. Rain x seemed to help make the rear window good enough
Rain X won't work driving over roads with salt added in the winter time. And the rearview camera will also get covered. This is the best option for those times of year. I plan to keep mine stored in the car and only attach it when needed.
@@jeffjackson6358 I used rainx & aquapel and that helped a lot. I live on the West coast with lots of salt. If this product was cheaper, then I'd definitely consider it. I understand it's niche, and that makes it more expensive. But the cost is just a bit too high to stomach.
Rain X doesn't help AT ALL.
@@Danne89 it helped a lot for me. I had to do 2 or 3 coats for it to make a difference though
Aftermarket rear wiper, stocks*, dials* or drivers gauges*...
We are moving backwards to cars early years, when You purchuased only the chassis and had to add every feature by yourself... :-(
*Tesla
How is no rear wiper even legal if by design it would need it
The casual 5N in this video lmao
Did carmakers ever give a reasonable reason to get rid of wipers in the back? I heard claim about the shape of the car taking care of things on the back window, which, as an ioniq 5 owner, is obviously bs...
That was what Hyundai originally claimed but it never seemed to be true.
Lol but farplay and a good solution to an issue that should of been spotted by the manufacturer. Ill stick with my range rover and its hidden wiper. My only concern would be some one could just easily nick it if left on the car.
He can also sell them to Chevy Equinox owners.
Try to put it from up to down !.
Not sure the big issue about rear window wiper; drove pickups, delivery trucks for years without rear windows (!), never an issue. You have got mirrors (and in the case of the Limited (US) in dash shots of what is going on, I'd use it if it was standard but $500! Not a chance.
