  • Can you get noiseless photos at night from a Ricoh GR 16.2mp APS-C sensor camera from 2013? Well, in a word NO! But with a little assistance from Lightroom ... YES!

    So, more 'fake, AI processing?' No more than the jpeg you get straight out of the camera. That's right, the jpeg straight out camera likely has been processed to death before you see it. Even if you're shooting in manual mode, and even if you dial in the parameters of the editing straight to camera, the brain of the camera is doing exactly the same thing you're brain is doing when you use photoshop or lightroom. It's taking the digital information it's allowed to absorb, and doing it's best to make it look like a finished photo should look like.
    Keep in mind also, when you shoot in RAW, and load those files in an editing program, the program is generating a jpeg preview, based on the info it has as well. So just because you see it in a jpeg form, that doesn't mean that's how the image has to look in the end.
    And while it would be a very valid statement to say that most photographers, especially in their early stages, tend to over-process their images. Everything from shooting crooked horizons on-purpose (explaining it as their 'creative style' - it's not, it's a crooked photo!) to over-saturation, eventually they come around and realize it looks like a 10-year-old girl that got into mom's makeup, instead of the proper, moderate amount necessary to enhance, not cover, the subject.
    The bottom line is to come up with the desired image any way you choose, because your photography is an extention of you, not someone else. If you play in a symphony, you're expected to play the part written for you in exact form, because you are playing with other musicians that are relying on you to do your part, so they can do theirs, and together, music is created.
    But with photography, it's just you! Every image you take is a reflection of your style, good or bad. To get better, you have to shoot, edit, inspect, repeat. No one can do it for you, and while others can offer suggestions, you still have to incorporate those suggestions, or choose not to. But the image you shoot is your image, and if you try to shoot based on what other photographers tell you, you won't stand out, and are only shooting for people who are not your target audience.
    So when it comes to using Lightroom, Photoshop, or any other editing software, especially the newer DeNoise/Sharpening features, I say do what you need to do to make your photo look the way you want, and don't worry about what I think!

      They're going up and up and up! The more popular the III and IIIx get, the more attention the older models are getting. The one good thing is these are one of the few cameras that hold their resale value. whatever you pay today, you'll get back a few years from now if you decide to resell and upgrade, etc.

    Coffeehouse five is my favourite. The first black and white one.
    I use a GRIII and find it fine up to 6400 in black and white. I will try the new lightroom NR feature, though if it's anything like Topaz you run the risk of images looking a little plastic-like in large plain areas.
    My real interest is in that TLR on the shelf above your head. I load HP5 into mine and go shoot street - the waist level finder makes taking pictures a breeze and there is just nothing like street on 12 squares of black and white goodness.

    • @DozierGraphic
      @DozierGraphic  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I've never used the TLR - I guess I need to make the leap! Typically I use the 35mm cameras. Regarding Topaz, I had hopes for it, but as you said, it typically looks fake and more importantly, looks like it's been processed so I don't use it much at all. But I can absolutely say the Denoise doesn't do that and it looks VERY authentic to me! No strange pixelization or 'glops' of blurred pixels like you can get from topaz. That's why I posted them in the gallery for viewing - I can't see any detection of the software at all.

    i do not fear using 25600 ISO on this camera at day or night, shooting color or black and white, with the jpegs sooc. the camera is a largely no-edit body for me since i love using the timecodes and it's not even an option with the in-camera raw processing. i do shoot raw+jpeg in case i need the in-camera raw processing or lightroom, but that's probably 1/200 shots. i'll keep that vertical V grip in mind, might be handy for street. i dig the pov footage, seems like a neat way to shoot street and cover ground.

    • @DozierGraphic
      @DozierGraphic  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks! I couldn't imagine using 25600 without some sort of denoise processing, but hey, photography is suppose to be as individualistic as each photographer! I enjoy the hell out of this little gem! Thanks for your comments and support my friend!

    Back in the day, processing was necessary to develop the image. There were a lot of techniques involved in processing like dodging and burning but it stopped at processing. Now we have post-processing. If we keep on extending the processing in incremental stages, eventually it will no longer be photography. It will be image processing. You just lost a subscriber

      I really do not understand your point. I used to process film and prints back in the film days and it was vastly more time consuming than the digital post-processing I do today. Photography in the digital age enables me to devote a larger percentage of my time to actually taking pictures.

    • @gordonmiles9995
      @gordonmiles9995 ปีที่แล้ว

      @sl-rt5kv I can tell you don't understand my point because it was not about Time Savings or time expenditures. I had a darkroom in my parents attic so I've been down the same road as you. My point is once the processing was finished, that was the end. There was no post processing during film development. There was push processing but that was it. Now we have post-processing we're one of a dozen different apps can be used. That is creating an image, over and above what your camera produces. To me, that's not photography. People will offer anyting because somewhere out there, there are people that will buy it. And that doesn't make it photography

    Hello Jason, J'ai été obligé de renvoyer mon GR chez Amazon, capteur plein de poussière et remboursé intégralement après un an et demi d'utilisation. Bravo Amazon. J'ai toujours regretté la netteté des images du GR. J'ai le GR3 maintenant et grace à tes conseils avisés (GA1+ filtre) j'ai réussi à préserver le capteur des poussières. Je recommande donc de suivre tes conseils et de rester vigilant aux conditions de stockage et d'utilisation de ce boitier. Le GR3 est également très bon en photo de nuit. je n'ai pas encore testé le module "Denoise" de LR mais je vais le faire. Tes vidéos sont toujours intéressantes et tes photos très bien traitées. Cela motive ! Merci à toi !

      The Lightroom Denoise doesn’t do anything for luminance noise on the GRIII or GRIIIX. Apparently Ricoh needs to work on the DNG file format.

    Looks like a great feature. I don’t use Lightroom as they charge $50 a month subscription. Too rich for me. I remember when you could purchase the program and that was that.
    I do not have a problem with denoising an. I page. As you point out, if you photoshop or Lightroom an image the file is being changed. I have never read a complaint about Angel Adams who would spends hours in his darkroom manipulating his images. The difference being we can obtain the same results as AA faster and cheaper.
    Glad to see you are having fun with your GR.

      I'm only paying $9.95 per month for the photographer package and I get both Lightroom and Photoshop. I feel like it's a pretty good deal. I've always kept my catalog in Lightroom (had the stand alone version with the one time charge back in the day, but they don't offer that anymore, and there were no updates). So I feel the $9.95 is a decent charge (given I pay almost twice that for Netflix lol) based on the production I get out of it. You might go back and check those rates again, the ENTIRE Adobe package might be $50 per month, but you can break the Lightroom/Photoshop out of that with a smaller package (and likely a one month trial).

      @@cameraman655 I think that's the large bundle. It can be broken down to the $10 Lightroom/Photoshop Photographer's package, which I think is fair, given the full retail price. I use photoshop for other things (not photography) so it works well for me!
