I have this watch, and love it. I put a reddish brown strap on it, and the look is sensational. I have had cataract surgery, and these hands are readable, day and night, even without closeup glasses. It looks and feels like the perfect mountain watch.
I bought the green/gold version on sale for €550 three years ago. Then about month ago it stopped working. I ended up paying €320 for repairs, repairs meaning they swapped out the movement. They also regulated it so it runs +5secs a day. I still love it though and bought a Miltat jubilee which fits it perfectly.
Seiko is out their minds charging $700+ for relatively basic watches with 4R35 or 4R36 movements. I could get a hardened titanium antimagnetic Zelos Aurora with a beautiful sand textured dial, applied markers, and a superior Miyota 9039 for several hundred dollars less. And that’s not even mentioning other micros or even Ali brands
I got mine in the $400 range on Amazon a little while back and was thrilled at that price. I agree that I wouldn’t have paid $700 especially with it not having a bracelet. I got the Uncle Seiko jubilee that is fitted for it and it’s amazing.
this watch reminds me of Seiko Alpinist SPB355J1 Rock Face, where rock face has brushed bezel and makes it much more appealing. Yeah, this watch on NATO dark grey with blue stripes looks perfect.
The Clemence Munro would give the Alpinist Field a run for it's money having one of the best on the fly adjustable bracelets at this price point. I had a good look at this Alpinist in a Seiko boutique, it's a hidden gem in my opinion. For me a great way of trying different strap colours is to experiment with Nato's they are cheaper. The right strap can transform a watch, the grey strap real works well and really changes the lot of the watch. Great review thank you.
Thanks for watching! When I saw the Clemence Munro originally, I really wanted to like it and on paper I should but for some reason I don't. It could be the hands or the spacing on the dial that turn me off but for someone who likes the design it should definitely be a contender.
@addicted_to_watches I'm really enjoying Amber dial Munro which I was lucky enough to get a couple of weeks ago. I understand what you mean about the hands, I like them.
I have and love my green dial ' Baby Alpinist ' , I grabbed a gold centered ' Jubilee ' from Strapcode that is made for an Orient and it fits perfectly . The gold centre Jubilee bracelet really suits the gold indice's and hands . A great watch .
Thanks for watching. That's a good question actually. I got this one second hand in Australia and at least the shops here no longer sell that model (only the green one) so your best bet is probably just looking at some of the online store or second hand locally as well
Have happily spent eight months with this one... Seiko's MSRP's being a joke, it's relatively easy to find around 500. Watch for buck I'm quite happy, and it's the piece in my collection that garners the most compliments. Love to wear it on a "midnight and barley" nato strap from CNS or a thick blue Roma strap from Colareb. Stock strap is crap: dull, stiff and plastic-y, that's a shame. Other than that I've also felt all the missed opportunities you listed and I fully agree with you. On top of those I would also have prefered the side of the case to display a combination of brush and polish rather than all polish, but it's all right really. Lastly I've been quite impressed with the movement. It's my first 6R-something and I know it's a little bit the lottery with Seiko but mine has been keeping time extremely well. Right now after three days of continuous use it's ticking at +18 seconds. Thanks for the video ! Digging the grey strap
Found this watch at a AD on sale for 400 euros, I ended up getting a different watch and the watch I picked has been my daily now for soon 2 years, I didn't feel much putting on the SPB157, I didn't really like the lume color, I would want it more white.. but other than that, I do kinda regret not buying it. All though what I got instead, I would still have picked over it, but the baby alpinist I found was a pretty decent deal at least..
I had this exact same watch. Almost perfect, almost… I couldn’t stand the warm tone of the numerals compared to the coldness of everything else. It looks like an afterthought, they should have been true white, or even lumed with the same tone as the hands. I ended up selling it for that reason alone.

Seiko are probably relying on people placing more importance on brand and design when making a purchasing decision rather than specs alone

Fully in house is expensive.
Suck eg
You can get this for like 4-$500 and it doesn’t come with a 4R movement, it comes with their 6R movement. Not sure what you are talking about.
Such a beautifully perfect simple watch
Very nice thankyou. The gray strap with blue dial is a perfect complement.
Thanks for watching! I really liked that combo too
Where did you get that grey strap mate?

A great watch .
That sounds beyond tasteless ngl
@@MrCliteatswood No , it works , mate .
Thank you for the review. If I want to buy that model where do you suggest to look for it?

Thanks for watching! Glad to hear you're enjoying your watch and it's performing well for you
+18s a day is awful for a brand new watch costing more than a couple hundred bucks
@@MrCliteatswood It's 18 seconds after three days at my wrist, not 18 a day. Sorry if I wasn't clear

Kindly do the review of Seiko spb 543❤😊
Do you mean spb453? I'd probably go for the 455 myself with the gold accents
did you buy this in Australia? ta.
I did indeed
Really like the sandy dial look. I was only able to find it in America on Amazon for $930 US dollars, too much for me.
That's a pretty high price. It seems like Seiko could be quietly phasing it out as it seems to be getting harder and harder to find
This would be perfect of the case had a brushed finish.
Personally I like the polished bezel but brushed sides would have worked well

A small difference like that can have a big impact on the feel of the watch
That's not the nickname 🤦🏻♂️ it's called the NC
As a Seiko fan, lovely watch, but way overpriced!
I wouldn't recommend paying full price for these....or any other Seiko for that matter 😅
TUDOR not SEIKO in black market virgp or etnic unsually not material same think ever.
Nice watch, crap movement though
It gets the job done pretty well
I have the brown baby alpinist and it is +15 seconds/day. I agree, it is a nice watch, but the movement...
I have a white alpinist and runs -15 sec/day and a spb297 runs a little better, but IMO is not something I would pay for again bye bye Seiko
nah Alpanist all the way for me.
