Part # of regulator
Nice video ,of converting a three wire alternator to a one wire alternator. Also nice to know you can spin the rear housing of the alternator to set the field wire connectors from the nine o clock to the three o clock position on the alternator.
Thanks. Many, many tears ago, I worked at Checker Auto, and if we didn’t have the right alternator in stock we would just a go to the back and reclock them. I got pretty good at doing it without dropping the brushes - that was a long time ago, in a land far far away.

True! A paper clip, Tooth pick, piece of small gauge wire, etc.
Can I use a 2 wire voltage regulator as a one wire
You can, you have to add a wire from the 2 wire plug to the positive post. Some alternators will require as much as 1200 rpm to start charging, but it is doable.
So what's the part number for the to change my 68 chevy to a one wire? I think its the 12 clock 12si
The part number would be dependent on the brand, but any 10 or 12si can be clocked to the necessary location.
Can you buy the kit to convert before you take it apart or do they need the part # off the regulator? Ronnie.

Great stuff....I’m just stumped about what internal regulator you installed to upgrade from 3 wire to 1 wire? Do we just look up an SI model (90ish amps) alternator and get an internal replacement regulator? We can’t swap to the SI due to belt issues as you know. Thanks in advance for any insight and u just got another sub.....fashionably late 👍🏼
Tony, thanks for the Sub! I’m not sure which “belt issues” you are referring to, so get me a little more info on that and I’ll see if I can help. As for the regulator, you will need one specifically for the one wire conversion. There is a link in the video description for the 10/12si version. The regulator is for the voltage output, so the one listed will work with any amperage alternator.

I would love my alternator to charge the battery through only one wire, straight to the fuse block and then to the battery. Lexus screwed all of us when they put all these wires and if one messes up then alternator won’t charge battery at all.
You probably don’t want your alternator to run through your fuseblock, unless it has a very large circuit designed for it. The alternator needs to feed directly to the battery or possibly a 100+ amp fuse and then the battery, this way charging can be regulated.
You need to zoom in we can't see what you are doing down inside the alternator
