On my ‘64 Galaxie , I went with the same 100a. alternator in black . Because the car still has an old 352 engine, I had to use the C.R.A.P. Company bracket kit . In like butter ! Run a #8 or #6 awg. charging wire minimum. I removed all the old generator wires and voltage regulator and installed a stud block on driver’s side inner fender for horn hookup . You also could leave the regulator in and remove the generator field wire . This way you could leave your horn connections alone . I do get some belt squeal on cold startup , that 100 amper can act like a magnetic brake . Noise goes away after a moment . Need to configure a dual belt setup but, for now it works nice . I’m glad Omar touched on this subject . His videos are very well done and I like his instructing manner .
Did the same on mine. Got the alternator (140 Amp, am thinking about fitting extras in the future) from Summit, did not have a Garrett to send me brackets so these had to be fabricated🙂. Install and forget, there is no need for the 30 Amp generator lol.
lol what engine did you need the brackets for? The 140 amp is very cool, I have the same one on my 68 Torino with a complete sound system, subwoofer and all. It definitely handles it
@@OmarRamirezGalaxie the bracket you got from your friend I suppose is for Windsor originally fitted with an alternator, but try to find such a thing cheap here in Europe... Was no big deal, went to the local iron mongers and found what I needed, then cut drill & weld. 140 Amp in my case on account of electrically assisted steering (future project) and maybe aircon...
@tturtle1659 wow always cool to know these cars are out in Europe. Yes this one is a Windsor bracket. I bet yours is a lot stronger though! I love making stuff myself
@@OmarRamirezGalaxie they were sold here (Austria) officially back in the day but mine is a later import (from Oregon via Germany) - there are very few original survivors on account of rust damage (they spread salt/grit on the roads during winter and we have strict yearly inspections) and the various fuel crisis, am trying to trace more but so far no luck...
The other consideration is that a igntion power source would need be routed to the electric choke. I am currently powering mine from the stator terminal on the back of my altenator.
Omar, Great video! Can you just call that alternator company and tell them what generator car you have and then they select to correct alternator? Otherwise, how do you know what to purchase and what brackets you need? Thanks for showing us how to "clock" the alternator as I didn't know you could do that! The camera past it quickly so maybe I had a bad view. If not, it appears the rubber part of your fuel line is very close to the body/frame where is could chaff and you would have a "high" pressure leak under the hood. Maybe adjust the metal part to the rubber part is well clear of rubbing on anything.
Yes I’m sure they will help you out with the correct alternator and brackets if you call them. The fuel line needs to be redone, I just rigged it up with what I had around to get it going. But yes a proper fuel line is in order haha
The two wires left at regulator run battery power to the interior, and you deleted the horn power, and i think you deleted the fusible link in that wires pack., and on my 64 galaxie you eliminated the radio suppression. You did not talk about any of that?
Forgot to mention that it can be hooked up to a switchable power if needed. This car will be getting the race track so no other accessories will be used
Would you consider selling the car? My twin brother is battling cancer and this was our first car. It would make his day if we could find another one to spend some. quality time on. Thanks
@@OmarRamirezGalaxie that's cool ..save the generator it might've been a bad voltage regulator..you might sell it to someone who needs one..cheers 🇺🇸🇺🇸
I don't know why but I sure love this sweet car.❤❤
She will be better and better the more work that gets done! Don’t see these cars around anymore
Well done! Didn't know you can clock these alternators. Thank you.
Yes make it’s much more universal
Nice clean upgrade!
Thanks! It was much needed!
I'm glad you carefully placed the new part on the piece of plastic, and didn't scratch the paint on the fender! 😊
Got to protect the patina 😂
Keep it up! Can’t wait to see it in action!
Awesome job on the conversion!
Nice. 100amp, the generator is like 30 amps. I still use the generator in my 64 Galaxie. So far it works well.

If it ain’t broke don’t fix it is my go to now haha but if you ever plan on adding more stuff like electric fans the upgrade is very simple
Thanks for the vid. It's one thing to read a writeup on a similar car, but much easier to see it on the same one.
Glad it helped!
Good upgrade Omar & you may have just keep your ride from burning down
I think it was definitely due for a wiring check up hahaha
I did the same on my 70 Ford Highboy 2 years ago. Works great.
I’ve had one on my 68 Torino for 6 years and the thing is still charging great!
Your engine sounds great
I did the exact same thing on my 62 Comet last year
good job Omar!
Much appreciated Roger!
Nice Upgrade!
Much needed!
How dare you not screw around messing with the old generator! Haha... New setup looks great! Good call.
Haha much appreciated. I will be adding electric fans in the future with some other stuff, so I think this alternator will be able to handle it
Cool. Always enjoy the videos!@@OmarRamirezGalaxie

That’s a great idea, could always use another power source
Is the shelve that you cut supposed to be tight to the engine block
Even the motor sounds happier after that swap , nice will this same alternator work for a 352 FE?
I believe it’s the same alternator for the FE!

Even idles better... what did the regulator weigh?
Good catch on the bad wiring. Nothing worse than wiring fire. Did you check under the dash yet?
Under dash wiring looks ok, probably insulation wire out and started to short out
Nice Video. What did you do to keep the dash 'Gen' light working?
some of these alternators have a provision to make the gen light work. Some of the Powermaster ones that I’ve had don’t have the hook up for it
Did you move your ground on top of the alternator? Where did you ground it? Thanks!
I moved the ground tab to the bottom of the alternator and grounded it to the engine block where the battery ground is at

That starter solenoid is looking very crusty. I would put on a new one even thought the old crusty one is still working on barrowed time.
It just let go a couple days ago hahaha

Hi there, I just picked this car up but if you email me omar_ramirez562@hotmail.com we can work something up, where are you located
uh..i think i would get the generator fixed or replaced..they last longer..low maintenance..most of the time the brushes may be worn out..
I would also never throw that out that thing's a classic
For my situation it just makes more sense to do the 1 wire. $90 and Ive got good charging at low idle even with the choppy cam

I have built many one wire alternators for tractors way easier.
