Honestly. They only hit the armor once, with a really shitty / weak shot at an angle, which obviously bounced right off, and called it a day. Of course the arrow didn't penetrate; it was shot extremely poorly and was destined to fail. Even if the target had no armor that arrow wouldn't have done much damage.

If you look at a "primitive" bow such as the English Longbow, it's typical draw weight is between 80 and 150 pounds and has an effective range of 350 yards. If they tested with a bow of similar draw weight and at full draw I'd bet that it would go through the armor. I am not sure what weight their bow is however it does not look like they were drawing it fully either.
P.S. Brian and Jason, please do an episode on building a trebuchet, the superior siege weapon.

and also like,,,,,,,even back in medieval times, bows weren't used to penetrate heavy armour. You'd still give it a shot just in case, but the only chance of dealing damage is if it glanced into an unprotected area, which is why loads of old armour has the v-shaped bar on the gorget, preventing arrows from being redirected into your jaw

Dragon skin wasn’t dropped because it wasn’t stab-proof. Dragon skin was dropped because it couldn’t withstand combat conditions. Under rough treatment the adhesive would fail and the scales would fall out of place and leave vitals unprotected. It was also almost 50% heavier than the IOTV that it was competing with. The chances of being stabbed in modern combat is basically zero.

I am an American who did a 2 week study abroad in the UK with a class. We had a lecture from a British cop. When he started talking about their body armor, he said it was stab proof.
We then asked if it was bullet proof?
He responded with I think so, but excitedly said, but it's stab proof! Apparently at the time London had a bit of a stabbing problem.

Loved the episode, but the power behind that shot is lacking. Most recurve bows are rated for their given weight - usually at least 40lbs for a typical archer - at a specific draw length. As the name suggests, that's how far your draw the arrow back and is usually around 28 inches. My teacher's rule of thumb was that for every inch less it loses about 3lb and for every inch further back it gains about 3lb of force. That was for my 45lb bow anyway. If your bow is rated to a similar strength, then I'd estimate it probably hit with 20lbs of force tops. Which might not be fun with skin, but any additional layers would stop it cold like we saw here. Cool episode, but that part could use some work.

I'd subscribe for a chance to get that blade alone! Great content guys!
