Middle school show/tell Kevin brought a water bottle full with saltwater from the great salt lake in Utah. He had kept this saltwater in a clear plastic water bottle on his window sill for seven years. In front of the class he opened it, and very slowly the smell spread through the classroom. The teacher refused to let us leave the classroom, until the smell reached the back of the class where he sat. When he smelled it, he immediately ran to the trash can and tossed his lunch. Let us all out where we found our neighbor class waiting. Apparently it was opened by a vent that connected both rooms. The vile water was taken to the bathroom and thrown away, where some boys found it and dumped it everywhere. Classified as bio terrorism, Kevin even had a talk with the cops about responsibility.

Quite funny how Brian said that the rotten egg smells like propane and propane accessories (3.50). A common additive to propane is ethanethiol (as propane itself is odorless, which makes it hard to detect leaks), which smells very similar to H2S which is produced in the rotting process of an egg. So, unknowingly, Brian and Jason were smelling the rotten egg. But just didn't think it was disgusting.

sure if the gases did smell good we'd probably eventually learn to avoid them thus making the smells disgusting to us. I mean, after all that's one of the biggest reasons we can smell, to begin with, so we could avoid harmful chemicals or other harmful things like dead rotting bodies.
also why skunks spray a bad-smelling odor, to make predators think that it's harmful/diseased

I don't know why they said that. Ammonia is pretty much entirely safe. It's irritating in high concentrations and can be slightly corrosive in solution but breathing a dilute ammonia gas is perfectly fine. It was actually used as a demo of how to smell chemicals in a chemistry class I was in. The first guy straight up stuffed his nose into a bottle of ammonia and couldn't smell anything for the rest of the class lol.

    • @MultiBamb00cha
      @MultiBamb00cha 3 ปีที่แล้ว

@@Sibula Ammonia is definitely not "entirely safe". It is toxic, us humans can detect it really well via smell because of its occurrence in rotting meat. You will be able to smell it even at tiny concentrations and leave from the source. However if you didn't, it'd be totally possible to die from inhaling it. It is absorbed really well and makes the pH of your blood higher, making many bioreactions not work properly, but the risk of dying is caused by the ammonia tipping the reaction balance of a synthesis of ATP intermidiate, causing the nervous system to fail, making you unconscious or at high concentrations, putting you in a coma (200 micrograms/litre)

I've used this recipe to horrendous success. In a container that has a snap on lid: mix equal parts of chocolate milk and the oil from a can of tuna. Don't fill your container over halfway. Then add a piece of raw chicken. Let age. Using the snap on lid is like using a timing device, once the pressure builds enough and the contents ferment the lid will release on its own. Enjoy the dastardly aftermath of your efforts.

Worst smell I've experienced was concoction my friends and I made back in high school. Every day at lunch, we would add something from our lunches to this empty Gatorade bottle and close it up, leaving it behind this little concrete wall in the courtyard. We did this for most of the second half of the school year. I remember we added milk a few times, some peaches, fries, meat from burgers and hot dogs, and a mess of other stuff. At the end of the year, we opened it up, and the tables next to us outside gagged. The guy holding the bottle dropped it, and it splashed all over the concrete. When we came back in the fall, we could still see a remnant of the stain it left

The egg probably needed two or three more weeks to get really nasty and the Hair stinkbomb... Well, I dunno how MUCH hair actually was in there, but 5 matchheads definitely is not enough. You'll want much more (like 20 or 30) mixed into a good fistful of hair (I'd say at least pingpongball-size when compressed). You need the matchheads inside, before you wrap the paper around it. Alternatively wrapp the hair around a bunch of sparklers and then secure with paper.
Whatever you did there - the paper was way too tight for the thing to properly burn. The matchheads are meant to ignite one another and burn the hair - basically the thing is meant to burn off inside with possibly the paper even remaining, as with fireworks.

During early experiments, a stopper jumped from a bottle of residues, and, although replaced at once, resulted in an immediate complaint of nausea and sickness from colleagues working in a building two hundred yards away. Two of our chemists who had done no more than investigate the cracking of minute amounts of trithioacetone found themselves the object of hostile stares in a restaurant and suffered the humiliation of having a waitress spray the area around them with a deodorant. The odours defied the expected effects of dilution since workers in the laboratory did not find the odours intolerable … and genuinely denied responsibility since they were working in closed systems. To convince them otherwise, they were dispersed with other observers around the laboratory, at distances up to a quarter of a mile, and one drop of either acetone gem-dithiol or the mother liquors from crude trithioacetone crystallisations were placed on a watch glass in a fume cupboard. I grabbed one, and noticed that the plastic seal on the top was sort of "baggy" but seemed secure (they're usually very tightly fitting), so I just assumed it was warm or something and the pressure was unusual. Didn't think too much of it, cracked it a bit and started cooking it in the microwave. As I was getting ready to make the eggs, I started smelling cheese. First thought was neighbors.. but it started getting very strong. Cut to the chase - The package's seal had broken, and there was rotting/modly brown rice being heated to a nice hot and steamy temperature. This was the first time I was a gnat's eyebrow away from vomiting from an odor.
    2/10, do not recommend.

Richard Keep the fish keeps fermenting in the cans so they get pressured. If you try to open just like a normal can, fermented fish juice is going to spray all over the place. And that stuff smells. Opening under water helps with that. But it will still smell when take the can out of the water.

Then I hid it in the admin building of my high school, inside the ventsystem. It took them a couple of days to find, and a week to get rid of the smell.

Anyone with chickens, knows the danger of a rotten egg of unknown age. When it weighs nothing you treat it as a grenade, because it will explode when hit and it will clear a large space for quite a while. -- Try leaving the eggs out for 6 months, without puncturing the shell/membrane.

I was roughly 30 feet away, the smell hit me in 1 second or less. I cannot find the right words to describe the smell, it was like getting punched in the face. The instinct to flee in terror was instant, my body moved and ran without my control. 2 of my friends fell to the ground vomiting as if hit with a grenade.

Make some temporary blindness bombs by getting a egg using a needle on both ends and blow in one end to get the yolk out and then let it dry and once it’s dry make one end of the hole big enough to put ash or other fine materials and if you want some better stuff that will cause damage than get glass and grind it into a fine powder with some slightly bigger pieces then you can add anything that you think will add to it’s effectiveness and when you’re done then just get some tape and cover the holes once you have done that then you would just throw it into the face of an attacker and hopefully it gets ash in there eyes making them dry out and making there vision blurred

worse smell I have ever smelled was removing a customers hunting freezer that was full of venison when he left Phoenix Az in July. The freezer died on day 3 of his month long summer vacation while temps in the garage exceeded 120 degrees F. We taped the freezer shut. Dollied it into the truck, and there was a whole host of white and red goo seeping out the bottom. I could smell it in the cab of the truck with the Air Conditioning on. It lingered for sooooooo long. Rotting, Putrid, Melting deer carcass. After 5 years in the trash sector, thats still the worse smell, even over those matresses that people died on, and hoarder houses, and dumpsters full of coleslaw...

About 3 or 4 years ago, a call center (employing ~300 people) was shut down for 2 days to clean the center after someone (or maybe multiple people) put that stuff around the site.
