If alt + left click is not working for moving then go to edit -> preferences -> and check the emulate three mouse button
it will then work

thanks for the tip, but for whatever reason two-finger scroll doesnt seem to work as zoom on 2.9. its strange because the other things worked when i enabled emulation, and the scroll works in other versions, but nothing happens when i do scroll motions with my fingers in 2.9. any idea what the problem is?

My mac's trackpad has spoiled me. Rotation is ten times easier on it, you can freestyle rotate with the trackpad only. No extra buttons for rotation needed, only for panning and zooming. Sigh, thanks so much for this tutorial though.
