I wonder if making the AI unable to complete the stages in the trial demos in the second build was intentional. Because it gives the feeling that they’re keeping the rest of the stages from us in order to hype up the audience. (Would certainly be an interesting way of showcasing planned stages.)
Demos aren't the AI playing the game, they're a recording of gameplay. Not like a video recording, but rather all the variables and inputs and everything are recorded and then the game plays itself running on the prescripted track. That's why Knuckles for example will desync if you don't have the shovel claw, there is a variable in the prerecorded self-playing game code which is different from the game's settings. Same thing with the objects in the way, it's running on old data. This form of recording was common back in the day before video sharing online was possible, most famously used by the speedrunning community to share speedruns. The file size is much smaller, because there's no video files involved at all. The demos are using actual player inputs, so they had to intentionally choose to use recordings where the player died. Consistently. So I'd say you're right.
