      20 years ago I was at a Fleetwood Mac gig in Oberhausen/ Germany, in the front row. I was able to see, through a small gap, that there was a second drummer hidden under the stage, who played exactly the same drum parts (same movements) like Mick. Wow, that surprised me. Anyway, I love Fleetwood Mac and I love Mick Fleetwood.

      @@l.christinejones8164 Underrated guitarist... because most don't know about his skills on the guitar. He's never in any top lists (of course Lukather isn't either and he's one of the finest guitarists to have picked up an ax).

    • @chrisPAT03
      @chrisPAT03 4 ปีที่แล้ว +104

      @@l.christinejones8164 Uhm, I'm 44 years old, grew up listening to Fleetwood Mac, in addition to Lindsey's work with Stevie before... I'm far from just discovering Lindsey Buckingham.
      Look at the lists and where he ranks. For example, he was at 100 on RS top 100 guitarists of all time... And look who was put ahead of him. Look at where he ranks on other lists as well. He better than the bottom of a list, and he's overshadowed in some eyes by guitarists with lots of bells, whistles and frills rather than looking at his ability, innovation, rig and technique. In addition, people that know Fleetwood Mac don't think of Lindsey (only those true musical connoisseurs who truly know all about the band know Lindsey's contributions). When the average Joe thinks of guitarists, they think of Clapton, Hendrix, Van Halen, Slash, (or God forbid Page) etc because they've been in the limelight and given the label of 'great'. In the case of Jimi and Clapton, that's true, of course.
      Of course, RS is pure bullshit anyway. For example, Kurt Cobain?? Laughable. Cobain was a mediocre guitarist at best. And no mention of Vince Gill, Jerry Reed, or especially Roy Clark, who was a true guitar God.
      Cobain above Buckingham. Stephen Stills above Lindsey. Everyone on the list is above Lindsey, and this is ridiculous. That, my friend, is the meaning of underrated.

    RUMORs came out 1977 same year my brother died. The album was such a big hit and overplayed and every time I heard songs over the years a bad reminder of that time. But one day I found solace in the songs the words and the singers. Christine McVie, thank you for all you did to give us such amazing timeless music!!

      Yeah the way Lyndsay fingerpicks is a completely unique style. Which means that even guitarists who are experienced fingerpickers can't play his songs, without a _HELL_ of a lot of practice because he fingerpicks backwards, in a way. It's like how drummers say that it's incredibly hard to play like Ringo Starr did, and he's so highly respected amongst drummers because of that. It was partly because he played a left handed drum set while being right handed, so everything he played was "backwards". And he just has such an insanely gold sense of rhythm and groove that is very difficult to replicate. Also he used the drums as a songwriter, instead of as a drummer. You can recognise every single Beatles song just by listening to the drums, with everything else muted, because each song had a completely unique drum beat.
      Lyndsay Buckingham is the same way but for guitar. The way he played was completely unique, completely his own. And it's very difficult to learn how to fingerpick backwards, like he does, if you've only ever fingerpicked in the traditional styles. You kinda have to throw out everything you've learned already, and start from scratch. And even then it's very difficult, but then also having to _SING_ at the same time is next to impossible for some tracks without a great deal of practice. His live solo version of Big Love is a particularly good example. It's absolutely insane playing.
      Buckingham is one of the top 10 guitarists ever in any genre. He has never got the respect or recognition that he really deserves.

So from Elvis The Beatles The Stones The Doors CCR CREAM Hendrix And so many more thru Aerosmith Fleetwood Mac Van Halen Skynnyrd just so many I couldn't name them all all the way thru Guns n Roses and The Grunge from Seattle music scene. And like I said he's 33 now likes 60's thru early to mid 90's stuff better than what garbage gets put out now. Don't get me wrong there are very talented artists today but you mostly have to go independent to find them. Dallas Green/ City and Colour is good and many others.

      Not me. I was there. Now I can listen to that plus all the stuff that went before and came after. Plus music from all over the globe. In the 70's I wouild have had a handful of albums and a cheap record player to play them. In the 80's it would more been cassettes. Now I can see what led Zeppelin played at Earls Court, after I had to leave to get the train. and then go watch a band from Algeria. To paraphrase a line from Full Metal Jacket, we are Jolly Green Giants astride an ocean of music. Also, as with any decade there was also a fair amount of rubbish back then as well. Time filters that out. But it was there. What you might be missing is being young again. Nostalgia often filters the memories of that too. I'm happy with now.
      I go back and listen to stuff I grew up on (and I'm going to see 10cc in a few weeks time) but there is a lot of talent and superb music out there now, just a click away.
      This is more a reply to wanting to go back, not a reflection on the video itself, which was great. I think great music is great music no matter the time or place it's from.

Why not understand Stevie Nick's expression as "what a pity we couldn't do well together"? After all I've heard about their quarrels, my poit is: both Stevie and Lindsey are supersized personalities, just like many great musicians are, but they could have matched up to a real BIG LOVE, if they had not played in the same band. Unfortunately for themselves, but fortunately for the audience of "Rumours".
